We had the Bananas Fosters french toast ($15) which was two thin slices of bread, An 8th of a banana and half of a small strawberry. The sauce was so sparce it still needed syrup. We also had the shrimp and grits ($20) which were in no way indicative of cajun or creole cuisine. Very bland. We couldn't taste any smoked gouda. Six shrimp were all overcooked. The best thing was the mimosa. The biggest insult was that I asked for a taste of the mango preserve and they charged me for a side. Our bill was $50 before tip. The mac and cheese lacked the homemade taste and the greens were fresh. The mango tea was enjoyable, but overpriced at $5. With the addition of the mandatory 18% takeout charge, the overall dining experience was not satisfactory. In conclusion, this establishment does not offer a good value for the money and is not worth frequent visits. A total of $60.50 for four shrimp, fried chicken, greens, mac and cheese, and tea. This place is super cute and stylist! I was really looking forward to coming here especially since it's black owned and also it seems female owned. I'm very proud of the hard-work they put into this establishment. We had a very sweet waitress Aya I believe was her name and she did her best to make us feel welcomed and listened to concerns. The food was ok, not really impressive but if you are looking for a cute place to eat, it will suit you. In no way is my review towards the wait staff. our waitress was friendly, timely, accommodating, and most importantly kind. however, management was argumentative about our reservation, rude, and refused to be accommodating and just downright disgusting. So -- based on my prior experiences here, I haven't been a regular. But I did have the chance to visit the restaurant on two different occasions last month since we had business dinners there. And again, I think everything from my original review sort of stands -- not much has changed. On my two visits, I ordered the seafood crepes and the lobster mac and cheese. The crepes were okay -- but the spinach inside had a very odd texture which was a bit off-putting. The lobster mac and cheese was truly a disappointment for being $28 -- you'd think there'd be lobster meat in the actual sauce, but it's more like a bit pot of mac & cheese in a lackluster cheese sauce with lobster sort of thrown on as an afterthought. Three people at our table ordered this dish and we all thought it was terrible. On one of the visits, I got the beignets -- and again, that's where they really shine. They are delicious. Again, service was really spotty and very hit or miss. On both occasions the servers messed up our tickets among table guests, charging people for incorrect items. Ive been eyeing this place since moving to Hampton. I went around 10a on a Saturday morning on Memorial Day weekend. I expected to wait but almost 2 hours is excessive. Mango Mangeaux has quickly turned to one of my favorite restaurants in the Hampton Roads area after just a few visits! I have always been a fan of Cajun and Creole cuisine, so having a local restaurant serving up these flavors has been amazing! The venue itself is located on a cute strip along with some other great restaurants and bars and has easy access parking in the back. While it is not the most spacious restaurants, the owners have down a great job with the layout so you don't feel on top of other guest. Some of my favorite meals thus far include the andouille popper (it has been my #1 pregnancy craving), gumbo, and the shrimp & grits. My husband has enjoyed several of their mango-inspired cocktails as well. Next on my list of things to try is their brunch! A few times a week I am forced to travel to Hampton / Newport News area and I am often at the mercy of the Hampton Roads tunnel traffic. On this day there was no exception. There was a horrible accident in the tunnel which created a mass delay of over an hour in traffic. I was dressed like a pauper and just left the gym but decided to wing it and finally try out the Highly Recommended Quiche Lorraine from the bright, beautiful and contemporary restaurant Mango Mangeaux, conveniently located in Hampton, VA. This sophisticated Neo Soul, French creole restaurant is perfectly placed in Downtown Hampton. It's a charming location with red brick sidewalks and charming little shops. There is street parking available depending on the time and day you May have to go around the block a few times but I have not had bad luck in this area. I have been to this restaurant a few times to catch up with a girlfriend or meet with a client. I have not come during its peak hours or in the evening for dinner just yet. My week day encounters seem to be quite pleasant. I owed this restaurant a proper Yelp Review and had to post pictures but I assure you that my pictures do not do it justice. So where shall I start? Ok! Table for 1 please I was prompted greeted by a lovely greeter and walked to my table. I love that even though the facility is small they had added the touch of having a greeter at the door to escort you to your table. Nice touch! The waiters are dressed in all black which added to the level of sexy sleekness to the contemporary design on the restaurants decor. With subtle grey, crisp white and pops of bright orange. This restaurant is very appealing to the eye and leaves you feeling as if you are in a chic establishment. My server was Tony. He gave me EXCELLENT service!! He offered brought over a visual of the flight mimosa basket and explained that there were 4 signature mimosas available to tantalize my tastebuds. Although they were so visually appealing and gave me more bang for my buck at the price of $24 I kindly declined because my work day had just started. I will be taking a rein check on that one. I did have him select a mimosa for me that was not overly sweet and he brought me a mimosa with pomegranate and the touch of pomegranate seeds on the bottom was a nice touch. I ordered the infamous Quiche Lorraine which came with a fruit platter and this sinfully deliciously I fruit dip. A assure you the only word I can use to describe this dip Is Lucious kind of like body butter! Oh yeah ‍ if I'm not mistake it may be a combination of whipped cream cheese and the Mango preserves used in just about everything in Mango Mangeaux Upon receiving my Quiche i could see that it was a bit loose or what looked like to me as being too under cooked for my liking. Don't get me wrong I love a soft scramble on my eggs but I personally felt that the Quiche was too soft. Particularly in the middle. The flavor tho! wow perfectly seasoned. Not sure what type of cheese they used but I know they did not use it sparingly but and quality high fat quality heavy cream. I mean corners were not cut when making this Quiche. It was chocked full of fresh spinach and Mua brooms. It was in fact more filling than egg not like most places. The crust was butter and and all I can say was oh yes!!! The execution on the flavor totally exceeding my expectations but the consistency threw me off. My waiter asked if all was to my liking. I expressed that I thought the Quiche was a bit loose for my liking but that I was quite fine and was still enjoying my experience and cocktail as I worked. Tony insisted on talking to the manager even though I was quite ok and had no complaints The beautiful manager Sharon came to my table and I expressed my concerns. She promptly indicated that she would check with the staff and make sure that the Quiche was being prepared to the exact specifications. She returned. Thanked me for expressing my concerns and replaced my Quiche with one that was a tad firmer from a new Quiche pan. I have posted pictures of both. I apologize for not having the best quality of pictures today. My phone has been a bit rebellious ‍ I was checked on once again by both Tony & Sharon.Can anyone say Quality? They take much pride in their food and quality of service in this sophisticated establishment I ordered a jar or preserves to share with the family and ordered a croissant basket to go for my little chick a dee! He loves freshly made, warm buttery . They came with mango butter, mango dip and mango preserves. A total of 3 flaky buttery and warm .Tony advised that they make them in house. I went here because of Shark Tank. I'm a die-hard fan of the show, so once I realized the restaurant wasn't too far from me, I knew I had to visit. I also caught wind of the rave reviews, so I set out on a solo breakfast date on a Saturday morning. I got there within an hour or so of their 9am opening, and waited about an hour for my table. I was glad they send you a text when your table is ready, so I could make better use of the waiting time. I ended up being seated directly beside the host's stand; hence, I overheard the host telling each party they were looking at a 2-2.5 hour wait. I guess my hour wait was catching a break. I got a mango tea, mango French toast, and a side of potatoes. The tea was sweet and refreshing. To me, the French toast was nothing to write home about. It was very tasty--don't get me wrong. But would I have waited an hour for it? Definitely not. The potatoes weren't as crispy as I would have liked for having asked for them extra crispy. To be fair, I still cleared my dishes. The service was excellent, especially for being packed and perceivably under-staffed. I was impressed by their organization. A good friend bought me to this place and it's so cute! I love the decor and their signature orange color splashed around. I found out they own a bed and breakfast right across the street, and several other businesses in the area. We had a 2-3min wait for a seat at the counter with Tony. There was one bridal party leaving and replaced with another one. They have a small retail area behind the hostess stand and they do have an upstairs for private/afterhours events. My friend suggested the mimosa flight. 4 mini milk shaped bottles had a mango, pomegranate, and I can't remember the other 2. Three years ago, my girlfriend and I first encountered Mango Mangeaux with a few friends of ours for breakfast. After hearing about the owners' appearance on Shark Tank, it was a visit that was worth taking. Everyone in our party loved their meals. But we never came back....until now. Since the pandemic is in the decline, more people are headed back to restaurants. Question is was this repeat a plus or a decline? With Mango Mangeaux having a limited number of seats based on their size, we decided to place a reservation online weeks ago. When we arrived, there is a sign saying to wear your mask upon entering as long as you don't display any symptoms. And every staff member is masked up. You are allowed to take your mask off at your table, except when you leave to go to the restroom. Safety first. And the other thing that I admired was they don't have menus to hand out, mainly for COVID concerns. If you have a mobile phone, you can scan their code at the table allowing you to see their menu. Here were our choices: -Appetizers: Fried Green Tomatoes. Very, very good. They came fried perfectly with their house made remoulade sauce. Well seasoned and with the sauce spread around on top....even better. Each time we cut them into pieces, you can literally see steam come out. 1) Freshly cooked and 2) Right out the kitchen. Now if you can't beat that, I don't know what planet you're living on. A great start to our meal. -Main Entree: Panache Platter (both of us ordered the meal). It consisted of their fried catch of the day (we both picked flounder), fried crawfish tails, fried oysters and fried shrimp laying on top of french fries along with Mango Mango tartar sauce and ketchup for dipping. Since both of us are from Louisiana (which we mentioned to our lovely waitress), this one had to deliver. And boy did it. I'm not a huge fan of using cornmeal as coating for seafood, but they did the job right. Everything was well seasoned and well cooked (the flounder exploded with steam from every bite) and the tartar sauce.....game changer with the mango preservatives included. This we could definitely order again. -Dessert: Beignets (her choice) and carrot cake (my choice). Talk about icing on the cake. Both were fresh and done just right. Every time she took a bite out of hers, steam came right out (again, right out the kitchen) with mango filling and the cake was moist. I haven't tasted so much carrot flavor in a long time. We were both full and had to take them home, but finished up the rest. This visit here was worth coming out for. From great service from the staff to the quality of the food, we left truly satisfied.
