The food is great! I had some problems ordering take out which was kind of annoying because the hostesses repeated my order it seemed like a million times before I walked out to wait but the mistakes were eventually fixed swiftly and professionally so I'm not complaining :) The food was worth it. Its truly a soul food joint with a real soulfood taste! The inside gave me a vibe as well and cant wait til we're done quaratining to sit and have dinner at the actual restaurant. I ordered the fried catfish plate with mac and cheese and candied yams. My favorite dish was the candied yams because the candied yams had pecans in it. That was interesting to try because I've never seen a dish quite like that.

Collard greens and cornbread

You have to try the turkey wings!! They were falling off the bone, super tender. The wings were delicious, actually everything I had was yummy. The sweet potato casserole is no joke. It tastes like candied yams whipped, baked, and with pecans on top. The macaroni and cheese is the baked kind (the only kind worth eating if you ask me), and it had a good balance of cheese and noodles. Even the cornbread is sweet. I like the atmosphere, very chill. I had a to-go order, but the service from the time I placed my order until I paid was spot on!

Heated deliciousness, Crab dip

Walked in to Bowman's, the place was pitch dark. With what little light that seemed to squeeze through the half-closed blinds, we were able to find a booth and begin our Grubbing journey. When we first entered Bowman's Soul in the Wall restaurant in Hampton, VA, my Grubbing Buddy and I noticed the place had sort of a Louisiana vibe to it, not really prominent, but subtle displays gave it away. The crab dip appetizer arrived shortly after we ordered it, and what looked to be a simple dish turned out to be bursting with awesome flavor. The dip was heated, had plenty of lump crab meat and was very tasty. Shortly afterward, our entrees came out. I ordered the crispy, juicy fried chicken with two sides: fresh collards and perfectly seasoned cabbage. My Grubbing Buddy ordered the liver and onions along with the collards and some mac and cheese. Our waitress was attentive and curious as to whether we were enjoying our visit. The chef came out a couple of times asking if we were OK, checking to find out if we liked the food. If he hadn't stepped out the kitchen, I would have sworn there was somebody's country-cooking grandma back there stirring up a pot of delicious soul-food fixin's. We will most definitely be returning to this establishment if only to tryout all of our other Soul Food favorites...

Crack Wings and mashed potatoes

This is my 3rd time here in the past month and they have yet to Disappoint. I've tried and loved their crack wings, mashed potatoes and gravy, Mac and cheese, liver and onion, hommade fries, fried fish sandwiches, turkey wings and yams . It is so Worth the long trip from Williamsburg!! Very consistent!

Delicious wings with Crack Sauce

Ok it's Sunday me and my favorite Lady are out in Hampton just going with it and I decided let's try a new digs on the other side of the bridge so we stopped in after reading the reviews. Greeted with a smile and a great vibe we sat down and prepared to place our order. I must say the wings with the crack sauce are to Live for what a blend of sweet and hot sauce over perfectly fried crisp chicken wings with a cup of perfectly blended Arnold Palmer tea what could possibly go wrong...... Well the wife order smothered turkey wings that were good it's the sides where the train wreck happened, sweet potatoes casserole smh "you have to strain the sweet potatoes Momma always said!" And the cabbage, smh " it's ok to season the pot"flavor is essential in soul food throughout the entire meal! I ordered the Seafood platter safe choice so I thought the shrimp were hot but over cooked the scallops were ok the catfish could have been seasoned a lil more and the crab cake the green peppers could have been left out the overpowered the entire taste of the crab and with the cake falling apart that didn't help! Too soft to call it a cake but a mash would be more appropriate. The greens tasted like greens thanks to Texas Pete and the Mac and cheese was tolerable. Over All the star was the wings with the crack sauce

Fried chicken (dark), macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and sweet potatoes, with cornbread I'm the bottom left corner.

Good evening Fellow Yelpers! Its ya favorite critic again with another #runtellthat noteworthy…read moreestablishment -- located in Norfolk, VA. This was NOT my 1st time experiencing this phenomenal business, and I will shout from the mountain tops for all who will listen. Tonight was #Datenight. My wife, another power couple (family, not blood related), and myself. Since the 1st time we introduced them to this place, they've been #hooked. Upon entering, we were greeted by the hostess. We noticed Brie (one of the owners) and we had a conversation (expressing our fondness of the business. We waited about 5 minutes and was escorted to our seats by Brie. We were seated in VIP (Reserved) section Thursday nights are reserved for Karaoke and its was phenomenal, to say the least!! There were some real "singers" in there--not professional, but singers nonetheless. Make sure to come between 6-9 to enjoy their "Happy hour" specials. Drinks came fast. Appetizers came faster. And the food was not far behind. My wife ordered "Keishia Wings (Parmesean Garlic) and fries basket. My sister ordered some kind of dip, and my brother ordered wings. The main course. I ordered "Bad Gyrl Lamb Chops" with Rice & Gravy and Cabbage. My wife ordered the "Veggie Platter" with Collards, Sweet potatoes, Broccoli and Cabbage. My sister ordered The "Sausage, Rice and Onions" platter and my brother ordered the Turkey Wings (Fried then gravy added (no onions), Mac and Cheese and Cabbage. When I say we cleaned our plates, that's an understatement. If you're in the area, visiting the area, or just looking for something outside of the normal, this is it!!! You don't even have to take my word for it. Try it yourself and see --- You will NOT be disappointed! We will be back time after time and hope to meet/see you there! Enjoy the rest of your day

Now the food... we ended up sitting for almost two hours because we kept trying different dishes, and every single one was delicious. The fried lamb chops were bussin', the seafood fries were flavorful and filling, and the salmon bites literally melted in my mouth. The seafood mac topped with fried catfish (with fried salmon on the side) had my picky child dancing and humming--so that tells you everything! The cornbread was great too, and I washed it all down with a strawberry Arnold Palmer. Everything was amazing even the music and we can't wait to return!

The party was for about 50 people most over 30 years old. I love the spacious dance floor and the sound system. They played a great mixture of music that coveted all the age groups, including the must have lube dancing music. The DJ made sure we enjoyed ourselves and led a toast fir out birthday girl. The owner welcomed us, and the entire staff was very friendly. The food was good, most people in our party had wings. The adult beverages were yummy and substantial, so everyone was happy. The seating is comfortable, and the venue decor was thoughtfully done. The food service was good and the owner checked on our party several times during our event.. Hubby and I are going back next weekend to dance and dine. Enjoyable location for 30 plus crowd.

BRING YOUR WALLETS AND STRETCHY PANTS!…read more We went as a corporate outing group of 5. The front door is a little tight cause as a popular spot there's a bunch of foot traffic. The lady at the front door was a bit staticky but she got us sat fairly quickly so we could deal with that. Vibes are all wooden, but not creaky. Could be a cool date spot, it was very casual so we were able to be a bit boisterous. Good place to chat and blend in. Service was great and friendly and attentive. The waitress we had always made sure our cups were full and we had napkins and what we needed. We didn't get any alcohol, I got an Arnold Palmer, the wife got a midtown. They were both pretty good, I don't know what the difference was but they slapped. Free refills on sweet tea was dope too! The food came out pretty fast for the portions and quality. The wings are a must get, get the large and if you don't finish air fry them back home (reheat is good) (I would get sauce on the side, we did buffalo). We got like a desert style cornbread with syrup and powdered sugar, not normally my jams but totally delicious (my coworker ordered, I am not into sweets; still 10/10). I had 2 buffalo shrimp and they were also good, I didn't get a flick but that's a safe pick. The mains are pricey (typical soul food prices) but fire!!! Portions were good but the quality of goods and meat are awesome. I eat at a lot of places, the quality was really high here so I think the price tag was fair. My wife got the catfish, I got the stuffed salmon. For our sides we got the greens, cabbage, and the Mac & cheese. I had a couple of things I personally like that I feel would have enhanced the meal but the overall outlook is that this is the place to go. The greens were salty as heck and didn't have like a turkey neck or smoked anything in it, could be a regional preference but that was missing for me. The cabbage was also cooked really well and didn't require much but had no sparkle. Great texture but the flavor wasn't there, I'm also Caribbean so maybe what I like is different, the crunch with a kick would have gone far and maybe some salt from the greens in there. The Mac and cheese was good, I like a creamier one but this will suffice tbh. Overall I'm going to give them a 8.9/10. I could have gotten the wrong things or went on an off day but they certainly delivered and the service was GREAT. I would deff revisit, it's got a lot of charm and personality. The staff were amicable and the bathrooms were clean. I would recommend this spot if you're visiting Richmond!

Getting in is the trick. There is no waiting area. The bar is small and fully stocked. It took my family about 45 minutes to be seated. The dining room, wood and walls covered in beautiful paintings of black artwork filled with families celebrating and enjoying huge plates of southern cuisine. Our server, LENA was very helpful and friendly. She made sure we knew what was what. She was Awesome. Okay now this FOOD! So much food and everything hot and fresh. You'll be tempted to order an appetizer. I observed the portions and decided I couldn't eat all that... in a week. Definitely getting the fried oysters next time though. The "Fish Boat" comes with 2, 3 or 4 pieces of whiting. It's fried and the onion and pepper "sauce" is a mustardy, vinegar concoction that compliments the fish perfectly. You have your choice of two sides. Typical southern specialties. Collard greens (no pork added) were delicious, with a little kick; Candied Yams and a BRICK OF CORNBREAD. Light, soft sweet cornbread... my goodness. I don't think I can do this food the proper justice it deserves in this review. The chicken strips; the Alfredo were just as good. Even their version of an Arnold Palmer, (The Uptown) was done right. It's worth the drive and definitely worth the calories. If you love southern food, seafood with an ample serving of back in the day hospitality, (it's on the PLATE) stop by and come hungry. My family said it tasted like Thanksgiving. Family cooking seasoned with love. That's exactly right. Oh! GET THE CAKE... for later
