Rip off! I ordered a large goat meat platter and ended up receiving cabbage as the main item with goat meat on the side. My order was supposed to come with mac and cheese, potato salad, and rice, but they substituted the rice with cabbage without telling me. When I asked for potato salad, I was told they were out, but no one explained the substitution or asked what I wanted instead. There was also no rice under the meat or cabbage, which is normally part of the dish. The whole plate was a disappointment, and at this point I probably won't recommend anyone else eat here. We drove 30-45 minutes from home to pick up the order because it was supposed to be cheaper in person, but instead of the usual ~$24.99 I was charged $30 with no explanation. The goat meat platter has always been my go-to comfort meal from this place, especially after long days at work. With inflation and the government shutdown, I haven't been able to treat myself in a while--and today, when I finally had the chance, the experience was completely ruined. My sunshine at the end of the tunnel was covered in rain clouds. Have a blessed day. read more

This was my 4th and last visit to this place. I wanted to like this place so badly because of the limited vegan options in Hampton/Newport News area. But, this place is horrible. How do they stay in business. I waited about 45 mins for 2 eggrolls and they were terrible. I got the soul food and a jackfruit eggroll. The "soul food" had mac and cheese, collard greens and yams. The noodles were mushy and tasteless in the mac and cheese. The yams were dark brown because of too much nutmeg or allspice. They were awful. The collards were mid. The jackfruits tasted old and look re-warmed. Please do better. This is not a good representation of vegan food. It was so disappointing. The two young guys at the register didn't seem to have a clue about anything. Every question I had, they had to run in the back and ask someone. They were more interested in singing to the music that was playing then customer service. I was sick about 30 mins after trying these. beware! read more

I had the beef patty with Cocoa bread with cheese ! So tasty!! I like that it's right on campus too!

My son picked up three meals for us. The chicken and rice are EXTREMELY dry. He asked for extra sauce for the meals and not only did we not get it, but it appears as though they put VERY little on the chicken. I just finished serving for my church's Saturday service to open the container to find this. My dinner is basically ruined which is odd because I have not had u Issues with them before. Hopefully this is just an off day... Unfortunately they close at 8. I have had food from here before and it is generally good, but you may want to exercise caution if you are ordering toward the end of the day. I am going to take this back up to the restaurant Monday as they are closed on Sunday. I hope they will replace this meal. Again, maybe an off day so don't let my bad experience determine whether you try them out. This was just irritating because I feel as though no effort was made to satisfy our request for extra sauce or to use adequate sauce for the meals because they were close to closing. I'd rather you inform us that you are unable to prepare the meal to specification. read more

As soon as I walked in I was asked if already knew what I wanted looked at the menu had a questions about how the menu worked. The food was saucy, flavorful, and well portioned. I got Oxtail, cabbage, peace and rice. My partner got jerk chicken (regular flavor) and plantains. I hate that they are the way in Hampton because I'm a Virginia Beach girl but is definitely a spot that I would go multiple times a month if I lived around here. The place is small but they have enough seating not for parties and the had a banger playlist. Nothing like eating good food with a good playlist. read more

THIS IS FOR THE VEGAN SIDE I've been to this place three times and each time it's a horrible experience. They have absolutely no customer service and awareness that people that come into the establishment helps in its existence. Ordered online today and went to pickup and they were closed, lol! On top of giving them a third chance....they also don't have the brainpower enough to turn off their online payment acceptance when their hours online and on their actual door don't match up. It's laughable at this point and it's places like this that make it increasingly difficult to support black establishments. Lastly, I just read a response to a review where the owner was being sassy and admitted in the rebuttal that they were in the back watching the customer instead of helping. Do not give these idiots any more money. They don't deserve to be in business. Just shut down!!!! You're not equipped or intelligent enough to be in business. read more

Small individual fast food joint. Inexpensive prices and casual atmosphere with four tables and high chairs. Food was warm and decent, better than fast food. Service was okay. 2*Curry Goat: goat was okay. I picked two sides of collard greens and string beans. The greens were salty, felt very thirsty after the meal. 2*Veggie Patty: warm and freshly baked, tasted okay, but I wouldn't recommend it. 3*Oxtail: soft and tender, not salty, side dishes of yam and cabbage. Yam was pretty sweet. read more

Husband wanted to get Jamaican on his bday so he chose this place. I ordered curry chicken and he got the oxtails. The curry chicken to me was ok the curry was a little thicker than usual making it a little bitter but still it was okay and I love that they add potatoes, a lot of places don't. You also definitely get your moneys worth on the portion. I got a medium and it was more than enough. My husband's oxtails on the other hand were tough. You couldn't break the meat off with a fork, he had to pick them up with his fingers to eat them. You couldn't even stick the fork in them. He did mention it and the lady bought out a very small sample for him to try to see if that was tough but she said it came from the same batch but he didn't try it so since he didn't I don't know what her point was going to be. Anyway I had also bought to pieces of cake, chocolate and the pineapple upside down cake. We tried the chocolate and it was dry, couldn't tell if our eyes were closed if that was chocolate and the middle was runny (like a thin watered down chocolate). So we both tried the other cake I spit it right out into my napkin. It crumbled in my mouth dry and lumpy or spongy idk but it was horrible. I am really upset with myself that I didn't go ahead and bring that to their attention and ask for my money back at least. I just hate confrontations, people were there. I feel like I'm going to look like I'm the problem. I feel like the health department needs to be involved over the cakes. Either they weren't made well from the start or they were left on there too long. read more

In town working for the week, so needed a lunch spot close to the project site.. saw this place when visiting tropical smoothie in the same plaza. It caught my eye and it being Ash Wednesday, I knew today would be the best day to visit to avoid eating meat. I also enjoy trying different Vegan spots, as I don't consistently eat that way, but I love all food! I originally was going to order a black bean burger, yet the red bean burger was suggested and I always go with suggestions when somewhere new. It did not disappoint at all! I ate every single bite and felt full and satisfied after. I topped it with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and the creamy bbq sauce that was also suggested. Very impressive menu, so I will be back as I saw several items I wanted to try! read more

I was in town and thought I would give this restaurant a try. It's a couple of blocks from Hampton's University campus and was close to my contracts office. I've never paid $20.00 for Curry Chicken. NEVER! I've eaten Jamaican food in at least fifteen different states and grew up in Miami Florida. Overpriced is an understatement! The food was just okay. It's not the worst I've had. It's not close to my best Jamacian spot. How a student can afford this is beyond me. I'm here for restaurants and small businesses being fairly compensated. EXPLOITIVE IS EXPLOITIVE! I would not recommend! read more

Ordered from their vegan side - crab cake platter with Mac, rice & beans and plantains - side of greens and a piece of coconut cake. The "crab cake" was good, nice flavor, rice was a little dry (but ok). Mac was unusual - kind of had a hint of sweetness. The cake I received was very dry - I couldn't eat it. The greens were too salty. I would eat there again -but skip the cake. read more

Went here and got a beef patty & cocoa bread and was very disappointed. I got a hotdog bun and I don't know what else. Listen! I've been coming here for years and I've never been disappointed. Now the prices jumped up a couple of dollars at the beginning of 2023. The lunch special that ran about $8 is now $10 when paying with a debit or credit card. They do pass off the credit card fees to the customer so be prepared to pay and additional 3.99% to use your card. That being said, it is still the best lunch special for the quality, quantity and over all taste of the food. I religiously get stewed chicken, collard greens and cabbage with the plantain and a half lemonade and half sweet tea. Bomb!!! They don't have everything on the lunch special, but they have exactly what I like. For the lunch special, make sure you get there before 2pm. You are welcome. read more

We originally frequented this place and gave a great review but noticed the quality dropping. Today, we ordered the oxtail and the one where we requested a little gravy was drowning. More importantly, though, it was salty and tough! Although there is a sign which states you must bring back the product if dissatisfied, when it was brought back, the owner was NASTY and refused to refund the $36.00 less the fee!!! We then drove to Norfolk to Higher Heights where the food is always good!!! Keep in mind, the photo of the food is after quite a bit of gravy had spilled into the bag on the way home. We want to support businesses during this time! This was not a donation!!! They only received one star because the review won't post otherwise. read more

My go to restaurant for authentic Caribbean food. Great curry goat, best stewed beef, delicious jerk chicken with a choice of sauces.

I was very excited about this place, as there just aren't very many vegan options in town. I ordered the vegan chick'n wrap on the juice bar side, nothing else, no fries or anything. I waited 30 minutes for it, and there was only one person ahead of me. It doesn't appear that anything in it had to be cooked for an excessive amount of time (the chick'n looked shredded and like it had been ready/prepped) and the rest is cold veggies and Buffalo sauce (a lot of it). I am pretty bummed, probably will not be back, that is far too long to wait for just a wrap. And it didn't blow my socks off. read more

I came across this restaurant on my drive down and it was a happy surprise! I was looking for a place to eat in that shopping center and my husband found this cafe! We went inside and ordered goat curry and meat pie. It was so warm that I had to wait so I didn't burn my tongue! Their Mac and cheese was something my husband kept thinking about for months until we had the opportunity to go for the second time. At that point, we got curry again and a meat pie and found that the quality was consistent! Highly recommend. It doesn't have a place to eat inside due to covid. read more

I love Caribbean food and have been coming here for years but have noticed the quality of food and service is diminishing although the prices are going up. Now I understand inflation and needing to stay in business but you must maintain integrity. I visited the vegan juice bar today for the first time. I ordered a side of curry chickpeas. First the woman puts them in a side dish then she pours them into a larger container. I also order a small juice. Mind you prices are not posted anywhere so she says $12 at checkout. I am accustomed to health food prices and figured that was accurate for a side and drink but no it was only the chickpeas. The drink was another $9. I asked why chickpeas were $12 for a side? She replies we don't have sides only entrees. I say well you had a side container which you filled up at first however if you couldn't meet my order then you should tell me before you change it on your own. I paid but will not return here. $12 for a $1 can of chickpeas is way overpriced whether it is labeled a side or entree. Oh but you don't know because the staff makes up portions and pricing. Bad business, you lost a loyal referring customer! read more

They're usually good. The place is close to where I live. They have an assortment of food choices.

Called to place a pick up order and was immediately told they're no longer taking orders and just hung up. Rude. Unprofessional.

Ordered stewed chicken, oxtails and side of whiting fish. DO NOT order the whiting fish! it was old, stale fish not fresh...waste of money. chicken stew and oxtails was very very sweet. the rice and beans and mac and cheese was decent, cabbage was the only item thats delicious. read more

I went here wanting Curry Shrimp, after waiting almost 20 minutes, she tells me they are out of shrimp and that the previous shift should have let the night shift know of ahead of time. With this slight hiccup was the ONLY reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars. It's a small restaurant, better for ordering takeout than eating in, since its only 5 tables in the restaurant and get busy for dinner. Luckily, they were accommodating after paying $18 ahead of time for something I later found out wasn't available. I end up getting Stew Chicken (very flavorful), cabbage, yellow rice and plantains. They gave me an extra side, and doubled my portions to equal out the price. Defintley come here hungry, but you will leave full. Will be back to eat here again! read more

I tried this restaurant on GrubHub for the first time during COVID-19. I got the curry chicken dinner with cornbread, plantains, and greens, as well as the fresh beet juice with lemon ginger and honey. The takeoit was a bit messy--the curry chicken was in a styrofoam container and the sauce got all over the bag and the cornbread (probably would've been better transported in a plastic sealable container). That being said, the curry chicken was very tasty with a good level of heat, but beware of fragments of bone. The collard greens were well seasoned and flavorful, although a bit on the salty side. Normally I am a fan of fried sweet plantains, but these were a little disappointing--a little firm, and maybe not quite ripe enough. On the other hand, while the beet juice came partially frozen, it was absolutely delicious with the hint of lemon and ginger. I would definitely get this again and look forward to trying other juices. They were unfortunately out of sweet potato pudding, which I wanted to try. The servings were generous and enough for two meals. This will definitely be worth another try! read more

First time here. Mask must be worn, no drinking inside, no eating inside, and take-out only. I wish I would have checked reviews ahead of time, but I was in the area and this placed was just recommended to me. We ordered the goat and it was already sitting and ready to he dipped out. I had to get my kid food from next door at Wendys, because they said it would be 20 minutes for them to make the chicken or burgers. We sat in the Wendy's parking lot and ate together. The food was leaking out in the bags and it seemed like I was just getting a lot of bones and not much meat. I like salt, but the food was VERY salty and the sides were bland. Maybe if I got a big bowl and mixed it all together it would even each other out lol. The cornbread was good though. I wanted to like this place, but I wouldn't come back. read more

I'd ordered from this place because this is the cuisine I grew up eating. With that said, this the third time I've ordered from this restaurant, the first time I was a little disappointed because the white rice was undercooked and well as the pease in the rice and peas being very hard. My kids enjoyed the stew chicken and my wife enjoyed her snapper. I ordered curry shrimp, even though it was very spicy it was still good. The second time we ordered everything was delicious, it was a big improvement from the first time. Now this third time, I got spoiled white rice with my curry shrimp meal. The smell was covered by the curry, but it was impossible to not notice after taking a bite and almost throwing up. I tried calling and I kept getting a busy signal. I wouldn't recommend anyone order from here, there's no excuse for that to have happened read more

Ordered food via Grubhub and my food was late. The Driver appeared to look unkept, and in a rush. I opened the bag and looked at the food and it immediately had a burning odor coming from the chicken. The Mac n Cheese was cold, hard and had burnt, crispy looking edges. The Rice n Peas smelled horrible and looked VERY DRY. The chicken was burnt, smelled burnt and was salty (after taking one bite) and was oh so OILY. The food looked just like it was the last remaining in the pan and they served it and gave it to me since I ordered from Grubhub after 6pm and they were closing at 8pm. I couldn't believe it!!! I was upset because I was hungry and just knew that the food was going to be good hence the name, thinking it was going to be real tasty food from REAL Caribbean People who knew HOW TO COOK (So I thought). I tried the Vegan spot a few months ago and the mushroom were good, collard greens were a little salty and the Mac and cheese had a sweet taste to it. Overall it was decent since the mushrooms saved the day. Today I decided to try the Jamaican side and I was disappointed. The Mac and cheese once again had a sweet taste to it along with the cabbage. The rice and peas were super dry. The oxtail were flavorless to me at first because I was eating the smaller pieces. A girl came and saw me eating the oxtail and asked did the oxtail taste sweet because she ordered off door dash. I told her it was flavorless but since I paid for it, I'm going to eat. A little after eating the oxtail some more I tasted that same sweet taste that I was tasting with the cabbage and Mac and cheese. I'm not sure what kind of seasoning they are using but those oxtail needed some onions, peppers, spices...something, but whatever sugar like thing they are using within all the food is nasty. Sugar DO NOT go in Mac and cheese for sure and if you put it in cabbage it needs to balance out. The place itself was nice. The cook came out with the same energy the girl was giving about the oxtail being sweet and little bitty oxtails which I agree with the girl because I had four super tiny ones and two decent sizes ones. The girl left saying f*ck you to the cook, and the cook went back in the kitchen saying she don't care and she can't please everyone. I would go back to the Vegan spit for the mushrooms and never again to the Jamaican side. Shout out to Cool Runnings in Houston TX. I miss you guys read more
