This has always been my Jamaican restaurant of choice in Hampton. The oxtail was fantastic, as usual, and the beans and rice were absolutely marvelous. However, the portion size seems to have decreased lately, especially considering the $24 price. I was asked to inspect my meal before leaving, but next time I'll be sure to lift up the meat with a fork. Unfortunately, several of the pieces on the bottom were mostly bone with very little meat. The side dishes were disappointing. The yams and cabbage tasted as though they came straight from a can. In fact, I ended up bringing the cabbage home and seasoning it myself with onions and additional spices to improve the flavor. I also ordered two beers during happy hour, and the total was $10. I later changed my mind about the beer, but the pricing still seemed a bit high for happy hour. On a positive note, the service was quick and efficient. The restaurant could benefit from some upgrades to the dining area. At this point, I don't see myself eating inside the restaurant and will likely continue ordering takeout. Overall, while the oxtail and rice remain strong points, it may be time for me to explore some of the competition in the area read more

Food was spot on! Oxtail fell off the bone, the goat was as tender as could possibly be and the chicken was absolutely delicious! All the sides were cooked with love and delivered with perfect flavor and consistency. We also had their homemade juices that topped off these perfect dishes. After sitting down to eat our lunch at the Hampton Tattoo Party at least 20 people asked where we had gotten this food, so if there was a sudden rush that particular Sunday then you can thank us later! read more

I wanted to like this place. The owner was nice. The interior needs a serious cleanup. The food portions were very good, but the food had a strange aftertaste. Not sure if it was held out or reheat it or clean pots or oil, but this went for stew, beef, oxtail, and jerk chicken. Stopped by for some ox tail and some goat. The food is good, portions aren't bad, but the interior needs a lot of help/revamp. Would be nice to see some lovely indoor plants, comfortable seating, and maybe some beautiful prints of Jamaica, OR tropical prints of some kind. The lack of ambiance is off putting, but if you take your food to-go .... No biggie. I'm hoping that post covid this place really kicks off. Upon entry I was greeted by a vibrant ambiance. The aroma that swept through the restaurant was that of authentic Jamaican cuisine. The Servers are well mannered and ready to take orders. I ordered online, ahead of my arrival. When I arrived my food was already ready. I then sat in the dining area and enjoyed every bit of my food. It was first time in there today. I didn't even know they had a lunch special and they made sure to let me know that there was one- so that's what I'm grubbing on right now. I got the jerk chicken with Mac and cheese and I also got oxtail gravy drizzle on my order. Normally places make you pay for even the oxtail gravy- I don't ever mind it, but today it was on the house. I think I just found my Thursday/Friday lunch spot. Best part: it's spacious on the inside and they get things done quickly and efficiently. Ps: the jerk chicken falls off of the bone when you get to digging right into it. I love that! How can two restaurants owned by the same person be so different (Island Jamaica.) This one is nowhere near the quality of the food as the other. I could not finish this meal, the Jerk Chicken was so loaded/covered with barbecue sauce that I could not taste the chicken and the rice was "burned" tasting. My FAVORITE Jamaican place in Hampton! The food is always so fresh & delicious. The portion sizes for the prices are amazing, I'm always have left overs. I wish I could photos but I only remember to take photos after I've destroyed the plate but anything in the menu is great idea. I've had their curry shrimp alfredo, jerk chicken, oxtail, jerk shrimp alfredo. Their fresh made juices are also absolutely amazing! Stopped in after picking up my son from football practice and the place was empty. I thought twice and almost left but the smell reminded me why I came. Ordered large jerk chicken with yellow rice and double mac and cheese for my son. I ordered small curry chicken, rice and peas, and mac and cheese to go. The price was reasonable compared to other Caribbean spots around. Got home and tore into this food. My son's jerk chicken was off the chain. Had a nice spice to it perfect almost. The food is really good even the mac n cheese. Not to be mean but a lot of Caribbean spots do not have good mac n cheese. The ox tails w/ ricenpeas, mac n cheese and cabbage is what I ordered. Nice location and friendly staff. However food is average tasting for a Caribbean restaurant. In fact there was too much gravy on my peas and rice, only 3 pieces of oxtai, no spicyness nor simplistic spices that are stables in Caribbean cooking such as: scotch bonnet or Jamaican peppers, thyme, coconut milk for rice etc. They cook to their liking and not to the customer's OR they need a née cook. I went in here in search of oxtail, and mind you I was very hungry too. I bought an order of oxtail to go and paid for the regular. I took the food home to enjoy a nice Jamaican food. The food was tasteless, it tasted like dirt. I am sure that place was open to serve something else either than food. I was contemplating on returning the food, not to get my money back but just to give it to them because I didn't want to waste food. When I initially walked in it was nice sized restaurant, but there was a kid watching tv and he walked in the back to go get someone. After probably a 5 minute wait someone came from the back and asked what I wanted. I ordered my oxtail dinner and rolled out. The food was not all that. The oxtail was moist but it had no flavor at all. The cabbage lacked seasoning and the rice was not fully cooked. The customer service was not that good as well. Wanna say A for effort but this just didn't live up to my expectations. 3 stars because the MAC was the best thing on my plate. I got the oxtail and white rice. It wasn't flavorful. I left the Hampton Veterans Hospital and went in search for lunch on that side of the tunnel before heading back to Virginia Beach. Huge mistake...there was only one customer in there at 1:00 p.m. on a weekday. I asked about the lunch specials and the employee said there was either jerk chicken, chicken curry or brown stew chicken. I ordered the curry chicken which was pink all the way through to the bone where there was a little blood. The part that looked done was sooo bland that I couldn't imagine wanting anymore so I tasted the cabbage which was even more bland. Finally the Mac & Cheese has no sign of any cheese and also no sign of any flavor. All 3 items were inedible. The food here is pretty good. We had almost started coming on a regular bases. They need more staff though. Idk if the food is made to order because they give it to you so quick but I understand some foods take all day to cook so it's probably has to be pre made. The last time we went my husband was at the bar area & saw a roach crawl across the top of the bar so we left without ordering.
