Seafood Pasta

Everything we ordered was so delicious and the service was quick and very friendly. Will be back soon to try more!

Turkey wing
Cindi W.

Came for dinner. There was a DJ but it wasn't too crowded yet since it was still early for a Friday night. I got the fried turkey wing dinner. The wing was flavored perfectly as usually and super tender. The cabbage with beef sausage, which is my favorite side item was great!! Seasoned well and not over cooked. The macaroni and cheese was good too. Cheesy without being dry. My husband got chicken wings and fries, which he really enjoyed too. Sometimes it can be a bit or miss. Luckily it was a great hit tonight!!!

Takia, the manager was amazing. After a small mishap she was quick to take care of it and she had a great attitude. Server was also very kind and the food was amazing!

Went here Sunday after church around 12:30 pm. No wait time and the restaurant was not busy at all. I came here hoping my experience would be better than the last, but that was not the case at all. I ordered from their apparent "new" brunch menu and was excited because the options all sounded delicious. My excitement quickly went away from the wait time for our food, which was ridiculous (0/10) especially when the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There was also inconsistency among the presentation of food on each plate brought to the table. I first asked for a mock tail, the Burner (8/10) it was refreshing and I wanted to enjoy it, but the drinks were brought out so quick and our food took 35-40 minutes... For food, I asked for their Loaded brioche French toast (3/10), the menu stated "sweet cream filling" as if the French toast would be stuffed with the cream inside; however, what I was given was thick slices of dry bread, overly smothered in strawberries, with the tiniest amount of cream thrown on top! No "filling" in the bread, at all. Bacon (8/10), Grits (9/10), Scrambled Eggs with cheese (4/10) very bland, and Potatoes (2/10) basic, bland, and unseasoned. Additionally, I found out after an order needed to be redone at my table, that my potatoes were actually supposed to come with seasoning and peppers. My soror who came to brunch with me, had to give her food back after the long wait since her order was not correct at all. What followed, was the manager coming to our table, with what seemed like a bit of an attitude, trying to find out how exactly the order was wrong. While explaining that the French toast didn't match the description of the menu, a simple conversation about the menu wording and food outcome/presentation turned into a partial over explaining and back and forth, with the staff almost refusing to accept that what was given to us simply didn't match the menu description. After having the waitress and manager come to the table multiple times and after another long wait for food, my Sorors food arrived with an amazing presentation (I should've taken a picture of it). Definitely not how my food, my sisters food, or my sorors original plate of food looked at all. Inconsistency is a major issue here as well as communication. There's no reason going back and forth, doing any over explanation, or having to send your food back to be remade should THEN lead to you receiving well prepared/presented food here in this restaurant. The manager explained that the slow service and food presentation was because everyone in the kitchen was being "trained" and the brunch menu was still "new." To me, this didn't make sense when this restaurant is not new; the explanation/excuse used just didn't add up. Think I've given enough chances to this restaurant at this point. I've been here some other times and didn't do reviews for those experiences, because they weren't great, but they also weren't terrible, but this recent experience has sealed the deal for me on not coming back; very unfortunate. The waitress mentioned she would fix our bills to accommodate for the experience we had and while paying, I noticed that the only thing really removed from each bill was basically the tax total. About $31 spent on my order. My overall rate of experience : 4/10

Have Em All Eggroll Sampler
Cinnamon V.

We placed an online order at Boss Queen Soul Food Cafe and tried a variety of dishes. The "Have 'Em All" egg roll sampler, beef liver with onions and gravy, mashed potatoes with gravy, collard greens, turkey chops, and cabbage. The eggroll sampler was a different mix of flavors. The salmon was cooked nicely, not overdone, and the Philly was decent. The beef liver was overcooked and a bit tough. Not sure about the gravy. The mashed potatoes were okay, and the collard greens were just alright. I actually preferred the cabbage, which had more flavor and a better texture. The highlight of the meal was definitely the turkey chops tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. Overall, the food had its ups and downs. The portions were generous and the service was friendly when we picked it up.

Yep! I am from Louisiana and this was worth my trip to Norfolk. The food, the service and the ambience was definitely a vibe to celebrate my birthday. I had the spicy crab balls, they were balling for real. It was real Crab not imitation. Ok. Yo girl was happy with that, so happy I didn't even share. Jeanise was our server and she was on point and deserved all of Trina tip that she was leaving. I has a lemon drop but this not the place for lemon drops, the drop was not dropping properly but with some additional simple syrup it will do. Now to get to that foods. These others said it was good and okay but for me the chicken and waffles are ranked in my top 3. The waffle was amazing and favorable. Trina has liver, rice and gravy and cabbage. It was not southern cabbage. I wouldn't order for me. My other girl had chicken, greens and yams. Them greens weren't bad. The music kept the vibe and I'm going to say if you need a place to vibe hit them up! Happy birthday to me today!

Margarita and Boss King

Boss Queens Soul Café has potential, but the experience missed the mark. The atmosphere felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant--dim lighting, a live DJ (possibly for a private party), and music so loud it was hard to hear our waitress, let alone have a conversation. Service was slow from the start. We waited 25 minutes in line (with just one person ahead of us) before being acknowledged, then were told to wait even longer. Once seated, we placed our drink and food orders right away. Drinks came after 10 minutes, but 10 minutes after that we were told the baked chicken was sold out--20 minutes after ordering. We switched to steak. The shrimp & grits came first--shrimp was great, but the grits were watery and flavorless. We sent them back, and while the waitress mentioned a "re-plating fee" for changing the order, she agreed to make fresh grits instead. The steak arrived an hour and a half into our visit--absolutely delicious, tender, and full of flavor. The replacement grits were much better too, though the shrimp portion was smaller. Drinks were tasty and strong, but note that a 20% gratuity is automatically added to all dine-in checks. Overall, the food was solid, but the loud club vibe, long delays, and lack of acknowledgment at the start turned this into a disappointing dining experience. I'd consider coming back for takeout, but not to dine in.

King D's Seafood Lover's Pasta

I dined in yesterday for lunch and was delighted to come here. The booths need to be upgraded because it was a tight fit for my friend and I. Server was super nice and attentive. I started off with the seafood empanadas and they were absolutely amazing but does need more filling because it is mostly pasty. Great flavor and not over fried. My main was the seafood Alfredo with scallops shrimp and crab meat. This dish has the potential to be way better than what I received. The pasta was on the verge of being over boiled and it's best to cook pasta al dente. The sauce was bland and watery and I had to ask for extra seasoning to save it. The selection of fresh seafood is what makes the dish worth getting. The recipe just needs some work to execute a customer's satisfaction. Chef needs to taste their dishes as they go to avoid loss of revenue and cook like they would like their own food at home. I think the menu should be shorter so that the kitchen doesn't get so overwhelmed and they can pay more attention to these details. The table behind me sent their meatloaf back and I just didn't have the heart to follow suit. I would love to return in the future and try something else

Boss Queens is a VIBE! Do you hear me? Every dish hits. What you see is what you get. You will see menu items that are so tempting and dishes that are hot and well seasoned is what you get. The DJ playing good music is a bonus! Don't be mistaken, Boss Queens is NOT a club. It's a vibe, Umph, I meant restaurant. Sn: I was with a pretty large group on a Sunday. The waitress was very gracious. She hustled.

Fried Queen Rosa P's Fish yellow rice smoked turkey greens and a dinner roll

The service was excellent. I over heard someone say that it takes a long time for the food to come out. But I believe you either want fast food that's microwaved and nasty for food done right that's dropped in the fryers fresh and served hot. So we f you don't mind waiting a bit for food done fresh and right then this is the place for you. The only draw back was it was cold as an ice box in there. I wanted to put my puff coat back I as soon as I took it off. So you may want to layer up when you during winter season.

Staff were accommodating and friendly. The restaurant has a nice ambiance fit for an enjoyable fun night of drinks and food. To drink, I tried their $5 Cranberry Crush (7/10) it was refreshing and slushy, but not strong at all really just a slushy juice and the Georgia Peach (10/10) loved the flavor and was a decently strong drink. To eat, we started with the Pork Rinds appetizer (10/10) they were definitely fresh and flavorful; I loved the sauce that came with them. I also ordered the Catfish basket (5/10) I was excited when this came to the table because it looked as though it would taste good and was a great portion size; however, it didn't meet my expectations at all. There was no flavor to the fish or batter and the Mac and cheese was very much the same way, bland. Though I am giving a lower rating, I would come back for drinks and to possibly try a different food. Feel like I must've ordered the wrong thing or the cook was having a bad night? I have no clue, but I'm open to returning in the future. My overall rate of experience : 6/10

It is Friday during Lent. With that being said, today is a great day to check out Sweet Jam Cafe…read moreand sample their shrimp/fish and grits. I've been to Sweet Jam a time or three and each time was just as perfect as the first time. After several visits, I would have to say that my two favorite dishes are their Chicken and Waffles and their ridiculously creamy and delicious Shrimp and Grits. Today is the 2'nd Friday during Lent, so for me that means no red meat. With that being said, if you are looking for a dangerously delicious red meat free dish I would recommend Sweet Jam Cafe's Shrimp and Grits. Let's start with the Chicken and Waffles- the chicken and waffles is a plate of one waffle that is cut into quarters and plated with three full size wings. The waffle is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I think their might be a hint of vanilla in the batter and I love it. The chicken, oh my gosh, sooooooo good. The chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. If they sold just that flavorful chicken skin, I would buy a whole bucket of it. So good. The Shrimp and Grits are...... All I can say about the Shrimp and Grits is to go to Sweet Jam and order a bowl. It is so creamy, the grits are cooked perfectly and the shrimp.... Oh the shrimp. Do your mouth a favor and try this dish. You will not be disappointed.

The music level was close to perfect and the music selection felt very inclusive and yet still felt the representation. Really everyone was friendly. I even loved when we left the chefs were telling us "thank you" and "have a nice night." The food, OMG!!! Hands down THE best food spot I've had for dinner in Norfolk. This place even beats out the BC. We started with the pork bites and baaby before I knew it, it was devoured (10/10). You would think this would earn the restaurant points, but it just further added to the dissatisfaction. How can a restaurant with such good food be so unpleasant to be in? From the moment I stepped in and interacted with the curt hostess everything was so tense and stressful. Unfortunately the last two reviews of this restaurant completely match my experience tonight. We were rushed and pressured to place orders quickly or lose our right to eat there. I will admit that not all of my party was present on time. But I (the one who made the reservation) and another guest arrived right on time to claim our table. This establishment's policies around ordering are so strict and rigid that it's impossible to relax and enjoy yourself. Life happens, people show up late and things don't always go to plan. The inability for the staff to adapt and accommodate leaves the guests feeling as if their presence is a burden. No one goes to a sit down restaurant to simply get their food and leave. Fine dining is also about the experience. I specifically sought out a Black-owned restaurant to patronize in recognition of Black History Month. To be made to feel so unwelcome after being so intentional about being in that restaurant was the worst part of the whole thing. 350 Grace, do better. You've got the food down. Get the experience down, as well. If managing a busy dining room of patrons is too difficult, might I suggest converting to a drive-through?

It happened to be Restaurant Week, which made us a little nervous, but it ended up being totally fine. The dining room never felt overly crowded, the noise level was comfortable, and having the Restaurant Week prix fixe, drink specials, and regular menu all available gave us plenty of options without feeling overwhelming. One small note: the plastic logo cups served with the water decanter felt a little out of place. They were a bit sharp on the lips and didn't quite match the rest of the dining experience. Minor detail, but noticeable. The drinks, however, were excellent. On our server's recommendation, my husband ordered the Gingerbread Old Fashioned and I had the Salted Caramel Martini. Both were seasonal specials and both were fantastic. When we asked about the scotch eggs, our server explained they're normally a brunch-only item. We were a little disappointed (and may have made a few pouty faces while explaining we'd come specifically for them for his birthday), but we quickly let it go, it obviously wasn't her fault. What we didn't realize was that she went back and told the kitchen manager that it was his birthday and that we'd made the trip just for those scotch eggs. Since the kitchen wasn't slammed, they decided to make them anyway and surprised us with an order. We were honestly floored. My husband was thrilled. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. And the scotch eggs were exactly what he'd been hoping for! They were crispy on the outside with a rich, savory center. For entrées, his Nashville Hot Chicken was juicy with the perfect amount of heat without being overwhelming. My Haystack Burger was stacked and delicious, though the BBQ sauce was strong enough to overshadow the pickled green tomato a bit. The fries were fantastic - crispy, battered, and perfect from first bite to last. Our server checked in at all the right times and kept drinks refilled without us needing to ask. The fact that she went out of her way to do something special during one of the busiest weeks on a restaurant's calendar says a lot about both her and the restaurant.
