Visited with a senior group on our way to visit Fort Monroe. Staff were warm welcoming, and service was great for our group of 23 (we had reservations, and they added an 18% tip automatically). To be utterly disrespected by people that you are trying to support. We arrived at the restaurant around 2:05. The restaurant was full and they said it would be approximately 30 mins at the bar and 45 mins for a table. We sit down beside the hostess station to wait. Approximately 10-15 mins later after two sets people get up at the bar another couple (a white male and a black female) walk in. The hostess says there will be a wait for a table but I can seat you at the bar. She proceeds to sit them at the bar along the wall. Then another group of two comes in and then she sits them at the bar. I ask is there a reason you keep seating other parties. She states that they were on the waiting list for over 1.5 hours. I say ok. I verify with the 2nd group. They confirmed. Several tables empty and we still remain unseated. Finally over an hour later we are sat. The mixed couple is now finished eating and I ask how long were you on the waiting list. They say oh less than 10 mins, they said we didn't have to wait because we were willing to sit at the bar. My assumption confirmed, I was too mad to eat and I promptly left. I live in RVA and my husband pastors in Virginia Beach. I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this restaurant. read more

Our family went here a few nights ago and had an absolutely amazing dinner. I used Open Table to make reservations, which I highly recommend, since this is a popular restaurant, plus they are observant of social distancing (which I greatly appreciate). It was Wine Down Wednesday, and my husband and I both tried the Cabernet Sauvignon. I don't remember the name of it, but it was very good. They also have an extensive cocktail menu. We started with two appetizers: the fried green tomatoes and the savory seafood crepe. Both were delicious. For main dishes, I had the lobster Mac and cheese as my entree, my husband had the shrimp and grits, and my kids each tried the Panache platter, consisting of fried shrimp, fried crawfish, and fried flounder, plus fries. All of our meals were absolutely scrumptious. The shrimp and grits was one of the best we've ever had, and the lobster Mac and cheese had large chunks of lobster meat. Yum!! The serving sizes were all quite generous. For dessert, we shared two orders of beignets that had a mango creme filling. They were simply delectable! I highly recommend going here! read more

Tried Mango Mangeaux for the first time yesterday. I don't know what they're doing, but they're doing it right! My steak dinner was so good, I forgot to get a picture of it. Yes, I'm the picture taking type. Judge ya Mama! My magarita was gorgeous! The salmon was excellent. So tender, and the sauce was nothing like I've ever tasted. Everything was seasoned well and cooked tender. The wait wasn't long as we were warned that everything was cooked at ordering. The server was knowledgeable and not overbearing. He made sure our drinks were full and had no issues asking the cook for special requests when we asked. This place is fabulous!I am looking forward to coming back for brunch. First in Sunday morning in a party of four. First time back since the pandemic. Interior is colorful and bright. Server was pleasant and helpful. I'll only address my order of flounder and grits and my porky bloody Mary. Everyone else appeared OK with their brunches and drinks (Hense, the four star rating, but personally for me it ranks one lower). The fried fish was good although a smallish portion, topped with two fresh tomato slices. The cup of grits was excellent, steaming hot. It would have been better with a pad of butter. Toast is toast even if eaten with mango preserves. The eggs...the eggs...my scrambled eggs were cold. The bloody Mary was good although the mug contained enough ice to build a mouse-sized igloo. And yes I'll go back again, but I'll stick with the shrimp and grits and skip the drink. read more

If I could give ZERO stars and a review I would. Normally, a well balanced establishment offers better solutions to dissatisfied customers. After being served a dish that was extremely subpar - management told us that since it was a matter of "taste" that they could not essentially provide decent customer service as most if not all food establishments do. No solutions were provided and we were notified that the UNEATEN meal would not be removed from the tab. After this, another meal was ordered to replace the first that was deemed inedible. When we were finishing up to leave - the same individuals had the audacity to ask if we didn't want to pack up the food (we couldn't stomach in the restaurant) to take home. The service here is a hit or miss depending on the crowd size, and management. The meal quality is inconsistent. This restaurant has potential - we were looking forward to making it our main brunch spot for some business group outings in the future. We very much wanted to support not only a women owned but black owned business. That will no longer be the case. So dine there at your own risk before you're told the same shenanigans when something is quite literally inedible or not up to the advertised standard. read more

I Have not been here in a long time and decided to check it out. Omg I'm glad I did. First off this place is beautiful! I love the ambiance. It's very inviting and pleasant. The mixture of white and orange works perfectly. The staff was very friendly and inviting. You're greeted at the door by the hostess and then escorted to your table. There are white couches for larger groups a bar and romantic tables for a party of too. There is a wall lined with bottles of their famous mango purée.I went during breakfast. I tried the fish and grits and it was amazing. They had trout on the menu that day and it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The fish melted in your mouth. The grits were not watery but done just right. I am the most picky person about grits but I loved these. I will definitely be coming back! The service was good and I received everything I asked for and was greeted with a warm welcome. The food was delicious and fresh!!! There is plenty of parking but I do recommend def making a reservation or if you're doing a walk in please be sure to get there extra early on the weekend. Always a beautiful experience at this place. This was probably my 5th time dining in. They are seating at every other table and require you to wear a face mask when not sitting at your table. The staff is very friendly and professional. The establishment is very clean including the restrooms. My order came out perfectly as it always has with my previous visits and I have had no issues at all. The waitress came to check on us frequently. The atmosphere is so inviting and comfortable that my best friend and I stayed there until they closed down at the end of their lunch shift to prepare for the dinner shift. Loved that the sauce was very flavorful. Also has the crab Benedict 4/10. I didn't like that they wouldn't allow me to opt out of the fried green tomato that comes on the Crab Benedict. I don't like to waste and I also don't like tomatoes, so asked for it off and they told me they couldn't. When my Benny's came out the egg was cooked all the way through. Informed my waiter and no biggie, she was going to replace it. But I waited 40 minutes for them to recook two eggs. My waiter came and asked if we were ready for the check & I stated I never received my remake. Not once did she even check the kitchen and give me an update on my food. By the time my food came back out w/ another set of fried green tomatoes my party had finished all of their food. The waiter didn't even apologize for the wait on the remake. Lucky for us, we arrived during a slow patch and were seated right away! Our waitress Katia was an absolute sweetheart! It was my friend and I'd first time there so she explained what were the signature dishes and checked on us often. I ordered the simply panache mimosa & bananas foster French toast because I didn't want a hefty meal. After we ordered, we got a fruit plate with their signature fruit dip. Not sure if this came with my friends meal (it came out before our food) or it's like comp bread/chips and salsa. But OMG the fruit dip was delicious!!! The French toast was great. The bananas and rum sauce were sooo good -- no syrup was needed! I got my sauce on the side because it's usually too much, but ended up pouring it all on the toast anyway. The atmosphere is so cute. Hands down one of the best restaurants I have visited since moving to VA! The atmosphere was so calm, we choose to enjoy our brunch on the outdoor patio. This restaurant also offers indoor dining and also rooftop dining. The staff is very nice and take pride in assisting the customers. Not taking reservations for a busy Sunday Brunch - 17 Apr 22 Easter Sunday I want to start this review with a question. How is it that you state on your website that you will not be taking reservations for breakfast/brunch on Easter Sunday? Then when I arrive at 10 a.m., an hour after you open, you tell me there is an hour wait for a table yet no one in a waiting area or standing around and people are finishing and leaving tables. This establishment is Mango Mangeaux!! On one of the busiest Sundays throughout the country, second to Mother's Day, and you are not taking reservations for breakfast/brunch.?!?! REALLY?? Obviously you have an "off the books" reservation process for customers you know since there was an hour wait with no one waiting around in the area. You don't grow your business by catering to your existing customers. Makes me think if I need to be back after having been there times before and wasn't treated this way. Probably nothing to worry about because the two establishments in downtown Hampton, Baked Bistro and Poor Girls, appreciate you sending my business to them. read more

This was a phenomenal dinner experience! And I wasn't even the one who found it! A buddy of ours recommended Mango Mangeaux for a dinner meet up. Upon entering, the cute aesthetic of this place sticks out! They definitely put thought into the decor of the restaurant. I love it. It's perfect for date or for a friendly gathering. I can imagine brunch is popular and tasty! Our party had the mango bread, the linguine, chicken fried chicken and the lobster Mac and cheese. I loved the bread and my lobster Mac and cheese! There was a piece of warm lobster, that you thankfully didn't have to fight to eat, and lots of chucks of lobster in the Mac itself. I definitely got my lobster value! The dish was perfectly cheesy too! The liquidy cheese style, where the cheese doesn't get stiff after you have your meal for 5 minutes and everything starts to harden. The tomatoes were sweet and fried perfectly, light on the oil. The vegan gumbo was had amazing flavors, with rice, okra, corn and other yummy vegetables. The salmon sandwich was tender and crispy on the outside. It was thick and juicy, paired well with tomatoes, pickled red onions, pickles and lettuce. The fries were thinly sliced and seasoned. This place came highly recommended due to its marketed unique "sophisticated" / upscale dining experience. Unfortunately, for me and my adult friends/family the day we visited a family with two rowdy young toddlers were seated next to us. The restaurant is designed to be small and quaint..so it felt as if they were at our table. I ended up interacting with the guest- just to try to ease the tension. Maybe having a bigger layout would mitigate situations like this... not sure.
