the front of a restaurant
Mike R.

A unheralded gem in Burke. Family owned and operated, I absolutely love this place. They are super nice folks, and this is one spot I do enjoy. I hope they get beer here, as the interior of the restaurant, is tables and a television. So want them to have several TV's with NFL, baseball and other sports entertainment. Almost every time I get to go. Their carry out deal is wonderful, because I'm a single dad of a rather large teenager. Thank you for this, as what blows my mind, this value and quality is hard to find. Their cheese and how it melts, and the crust are much better than you'd expect. It is located on the more industrial side of Burke Road, but this is worthy of your business. My girlfriend is "uptight" when it comes to wings. The ones here are perfectly crunchy, high quality, and fried to delicious. There are many types of sauces to choose from. You can get delivery too, and if you're in Burke or visiting, this is where you'll want to go.

I had an awesome experience here, I called ahead to ask if they offered halal, non-pork pepperoni which is really rare to find and they accommodated to me! Super impressed with their customer service right from the call. The staff were friendly, and the pizza was delicious!!! Exactly how I requested. Definitely my go-to spot now. Highly recommend!

Most of the time this place is good. They have had some questionable customer service in the past at the hands of those answering phones. I also have to say that the food is normally pretty decent. So this review is just about last night. I know this was seen. A rotten heel of a tomato just slung in my wrap sandwich. Gross guys.

Hercules Pizza
D C.

Mangino's Pizza is the only place I know of that carries the Hercules pizza. Gyro meat, black olive, onions and green pepper on top of a white pizza with tzatziki sauce on the side which I like to slather on top. Every time I am in the neighborhood I order a medium or large Hercules to go. I tried their version of a Hawaiian pizza too and it was great. There is definitely oil dripping from the pizzas between the meats and cheese. I also tried their gyro in a pita and that was delicious too. There is seating available but the place is usually empty of dine in customers as most people do carry out.

Garlic knots ok
Thuy V.

Solid local pizza joint in Burke. We had a very small pizza, chicken tenders, garlic knots and zucchini fries. Favorite were the fries and everything was solid. Healthy business with carryout. Some people ate in and it is a bit of a suburban dive. Definitely recommend ordering online for pickup. Will be in our weekly rotation.

Large pizza with pepperoni and Italian sausage
Jonathan X.

I ordered a large with pepperoni and Italian sausage. What came is almost inedible, as it is really salty. Very disappointing, but can be made marginally better with Parmesan. I give this three starts because it's possible the Italian sausage was extra salty and so that cooking soaked down salting the whole pizza. Outer edge of crust is good, but ..wow. Maybe the sauce? It's just a salty tang that ruins the whole thing. I'll have to go there in person some time for a slice or two with different toppings but this was not a good sign.

His signal was to take any table. We took the first booth up the two stairs, as multiple servers walked by multiple times. I guess the three of us were invisible. 15 minute later a server acknowledged us and I mentioned we were waiting and how we were told to take any table. We were given menus and waters, and were forgotten again to take our orders. Not sure if a shift handoff was taking place and communications about our status was lost. Nevertheless, the three of us don't like to reward poor customer service and got up and walked out of Spartan's. The two tables across the aisle saw the whole thing play out and not one member of the Spartan Team even walked over or tried to engage with us as we walked out the front door. Then again the host station was not staffed, and it was clear to me that the staff had assigned tables and clearly didn't care. Terrible and embarrassing experience for us and I hope a teaching lesson for Spartan's staff. Will not return, plenty of other places to go to in the area for a far better experience.

Having lived in Italy, our standards for neighborhood Italian restaurants is somewhat high, and…read moreVilla Bella exceeded all of them. Aside from being one of the few area restaurants with Primitivo wines and cafe corretto on the menu, the food was excellent (we had the porcini risotto and porcini ravioli), the service attentive, and the atmosphere was wonderful -- we felt as if we'd been transported back to our small Italian village and the neighborhood ristorante we frequented. Compliments to Kiki and Jack!

Energy | Grilled Chicken | Atmosphere…read more Energy: This place has genuinely great energy from the moment you walk in. The restaurant is divided into two rooms, each with a slightly different feel. The main dining room is large but arranged fairly tightly, with tables close together. While it's snug, it gives off a warm, lively "big family restaurant" vibe -- full of conversation, movement, and shared enjoyment rather than feeling cramped. The second room is more private and quieter, with about 8-10 tables that seat roughly 4-6 people each. If you're looking for a more intimate or low-noise experience, that room is definitely the better choice. Grilled Chicken: I ordered the grilled chicken, and it was a standout. The portion was generous and satisfying without being overwhelming. The chicken itself was well-seasoned and cooked through while still remaining juicy. The vegetables served alongside it weren't just an afterthought -- they were well prepared and complemented the flavors of the dish nicely, adding balance and color to the plate. Altogether it felt like a thoughtfully composed, hearty meal. Atmosphere: We visited on a Saturday night, and the place was packed -- always a good sign for popularity and food quality. Even without a reservation, the wait was only about 10 minutes, which was impressive given how busy it was. The one drawback to the evening was seating. We ended up next to a family with three very young kids, which shifted the mood away from the romantic dinner we had planned. The lively environment is great for groups and families, but table placement can definitely affect the experience depending on what kind of evening you're hoping for. Pro tips: - There's a surprisingly good amount of parking available, which makes arrival easy even during peak hours. - Make a reservation if you can, and specifically request the more private room or a back-corner table in the main dining room for a quieter, more intimate experience.

The bread that was served was spicy and orange ( not traditional) - we had just returned 2 days earlier from a European trip and at no time received bread like this at our table. I wish I had been warned about the bread by the server because I can't tolerate spicy foods. It's ok that the menu had changed- my favorite lobster dish was gone. And the wine that we ordered was not available ( it was as explained that a new wine list was being printed- so to taste the wine from DOURA valley again was not going to be possible ). Our meals were good mine was the fried shrimp and my husband's was pasta and sausage - he commented that he would have like a little less sauce and more pasta ( being Italian he likes pasta and I noticed that there was only a bit on the plate) I had told the server that we were celebrating our anniversary- after dinner she came out with a tray of desserts and said we would like you to have a dessert to celebrate your anniversary. So we picked on to share and asked for a cup of coffee. We mentioned that was a nice gesture for the restaurant. We discovered later that it was not a gesture at all. The dessert was added to our bill. All and all it was a nice evening out. We will go again in about a year or two to look at their new menu and wine list. I am hoping for an improvement. If not. I will need to find another favorite restaurant.

Intimate | portions | community…read more Intimate Rafagino offers a warm, intimate dining atmosphere that feels more like a neighborhood gathering place than a chain-style restaurant. The smaller setting and attentive service create a relaxed, personal experience that works especially well for date nights or quiet meals with friends. Portions Portions are generous and satisfying. Pasta dishes and entrees arrive hearty and filling, often with enough for leftovers. It's comfort-style Italian that doesn't hold back on quantity. Community There's a strong community feel here -- from the welcoming tone of the staff to the loyal local customer base. The restaurant reflects a family-first ethos that shows up in both service style and operating approach. Pro tip: Check the hours before you go. They keep limited days and times -- mostly late lunch and dinner service -- which reflects their family values and operating philosophy.

There is plenty of indoor and outdoor season, with a full bars with TVs as well. There are two distinct lines, one for whole pies and one for by the slice. I should have just stayed with the pepperoni. To be honest, I was expecting better. This day old dried out thin crust was a sad excuse for a pizza slice. it should have been steamed then thrown through their reheat oven cycle. Because it was day old dry. The potential was there... but the execution after sitting out all day... I mourn that pizza. Thrown on a paper plate by a teenager, the service wasn't much more than a grunt for a credit card. And the garage like atmosphere wasn't off putting, but I could smell the used oil in the concrete floors. I'm told the location in Alexandria is a better store. But yeah, not a great first impression.
