UPDATE:
The Stylist called me following my review, apologized and offered me a free blowout. I think that was incredibly professional and I do appreciate the gesture, but I'm going to return to Salon Buzz. In the 4 years that I have been getting my hair done at Salon Buzz I have never had a poor customer service experience. I never should have tried something new. Best of luck. Mane Salon!
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I hate to write a negative review, as I work in hospitality and completely understand that people have bad days or there are usually extenuating circumstances, whatever... But I had a really poor experience here. I signed up for Yelp just now, so I could write this.
When I made the appointment I told the receptionist that I had to find a new salon, because my previous stylist (at a different salon) had unexpectedly moved. I also informed her that I had hot heads extensions that needed to be removed ASAP, as they were almost 8 weeks old already (hot heads extensions should only be left in your head 6-8 weeks--ideally 6).
The receptionist said, "No problem! We will book you for a blow out and you can conduct your consultation at that time."
I responded, "Are you sure? It typically takes at least 30 minutes to remove the extensions. These are probably less manageable, as they have been in my hair longer than recommended. Not to mention I am a new client."
She assured me that my hour long appointment would be just fine. I made my appointment for 4 days later.
I will start by admitting that I arrived to my 6:00 PM appointment at 6:08 PM. I was late and completely understand that a stylist's entire evening can be affected by one late client--even if it's only 8 minutes. I would have been more than happy to reschedule (and pay a fee for rescheduling if there was one) due to my tardiness, if they thought that was necessary.
Upon arrival though, my stylist told me no worries and proceeded with the appointment. I took my hair down and she seemed surprised at the condition of my extensions. I told her that they were almost 10 weeks old and apologized for the condition. I didn't bother to tell her that I forewarned the receptionist when I made the appointment. She said, "I typically don't charge much to remove extensions, because they come out quickly, but yours look like they'll be more work, so I'm probably going to charge you more."
I responded, "I understand. Not a problem. I can absolutely pay more."
My stylist gets to work and I see her looking at the clock. She then pulls over the receptionist to assist her. I asked the receptionist if she was a stylist too. She replied, "No."
I'm no expert, but I really don't think anyone would feel comfortable having a receptionist, with no cosmetology experience, working on their hair.
The two girls are perfectly friendly. I want that to be clear, but they're talking now and my stylist says to the receptionist, " I normally wouldn't be in a hurry, but I need to leave here at 7 PM--not a minute later."
Knowing that I was 8 minutes late, and the removal process is taking longer than she thought, I apologize again. Very sweetly, she says, "OMG no problem! normally I would be happy to stay late I just NEED to leave in 30 minutes. Don't worry we'll get you all taken care of."
I persist and say, "Really--I don't need a blow out. If you could just get the rest of the extensions out I will be more than happy to wash my hair when I get home."
She persists that she will figure something out, so I'm leaving with a blow dry.
At this point (it is 6:30 PM) a couple of other stylists are done for the day, sitting in their station chairs, the one next to me is talking on her phone about her plans for the evening...
At 6:45 PM my stylist moves me to wash my hair and sits me down to blow dry my hair at 6:55 PM. I'm feeling so uncomfortable knowing she has to leave in 5 minutes. She blow drys my hair, just so it is dry, no style whatsoever. I beg her to stop--and she does--because she made it very clear that she needs to be somewhere following my appointment.
I get up to pay and tip 40%, because when all was said and done, I was feeling like this disaster of an appointment was my fault. I'm even considering to come back in and give this girl another chance to make a ton of money off me--between hair cuts, color AND extensions.
And the cherry on top of this bummer of an appointment ... My stylist is about to leave and says, "Thanks Jessica! I hope I'll see you back soon!"
