Saturday was my first experience at Mane Salon. This review is worth five stars due to my wonderful stylist, Chantelle. She is not only a delight to talk to, she knows hair really well, listened to my requests and exceeded well above my expectations! I am a natural strawberry blonde and came in for a partial highlight and cut. The appointment took three hours and I highly recommend getting the protective treatments when getting hair colored. Chantelle advised me on how the treatment helps the natural bonding of hair and I cannot be more happy on how fresh, replenished and light weight my hair feels (and looks) today! I already am excited for my next appointment with Chantelle due to her professionalism and bubbly personality. When my hair was done with styling I received multiple compliments at the front desk when I was paying for my services. I even purchased an every day purple shampoo and conditioner for blondes by R+Co and recommended these products as well! This salon is great! I'm actually super picky when it comes to the salon experience as well as stylists. I'm sure I'm not alone. I used to have stylists on the east coast that I loved but I moved to Chicago 3 years ago so it was time to stop pretending that a 2 hour flight was reasonable to get my hair done. Dani has been doing my hair the past few times and does two things that I love; first, she listens to what I want, and second if she has an opinion she will bring it up, and then we'll decide together and then she'll execute on what we decide. Seems like a simple thing but it really isn't! Her technique is beautiful and cuts and color have all turned out well. She does a nice balayage and babylight to keep my blonde looking fresh and natural. Finally, I have to give a shout out to the front desk. They really have been amazing in working me in to fit my schedule, sometimes even on the same day! They are absolutely lovely and accommodating, and I've never had to wait much when I go in so clearly they are scheduling correctly which is a problem many salons have. read more

I had the most beautiful balayage few months ago in California, where I used to live. it was so natural blended beautifully the color has no orange / brassy tint to it at all. Long story short. Only worth to see Galina if you're going blonde. When I first decided to dye my hair  (it was very long and virgin) I researched a lot of salons and hair stylists in Chicago area and was ready to pay as much as was needed just to get what I wanted and be sure that my hair won't be damaged. So when I found Galina I was unbelievable happy and she did a great job dying my hair blonde. Onee year later I finally was ready to dye my hair in color that I was dreaming of for a long long time - bright copper red. I asked Galina so many questions as I never did it before and still was unsure if I should and how to take care of my new hair and also I trusted her and could never even think she would not warn me about something that was important and I had to know. By the way my biggest concern was how long would the color stay for. Galina answered my question saying I don't have to worry, it's not gonna wash out soon, but she did tell me I will have to come in for touch ups every 7 weeks and I agreed and was so excited. Well the color came out not even close to red but because Galina told me that I could come back later to get it brighter I just paid what I supposed to($250), gave her 50% tip and left. In one week I came back and the color came out as I wanted to. I was so happy. For 3 days. It's washed out. Totally. I was  blonde, but not like nice blonde, it was yellow blonde. I tried to reach out to her but she won't even answer  (of course she already got the money ) until I reached out to the salon and they offered me third time for free in very mean manner and only times that I couldn't make. So the manager spoke to me saying how my hair looked beautiful and told me to enjoy the color and come back when I am comfortable to spend that amount of money again. She also said that Galina definitely told me that the color will wash out very soon because of how blonde I was. OMG, this is just ridiculous, I asked her maybe 10 times how fast would it last for and she knows I did. In the end I did not even wanted to say anything. Of course will never be back. read more

Normally I am all about convenience and going to the closest salon to my home, but for Mallory I am willing to travel to get the best. She is young, smart, and intensely dedicated to the art and science of hair styling and color. Mallory is an educator in her field and it shows, especially in the cuts and coloring. In fact, she devised a unique "no bleach" formula to subtlety blend my grey hair with blond so the outgrow is not at all noticeable. I have gotten so many compliments on this color. So I think the other person that reviewed galina is correct. If your hair is not blonde then save your money. The first time I met with her I waited for an hour past my time cause she claimed another customer was giving her a hard time not liking the work she had done. I missed a concert I had paid for because of this. I went back to her even though I had missed my concert thinking we were going to get to lighter hair because of the pics on yelp but here we are and My hair is dry and crispy and brown. Let me tell you if she would have made me blonde with crispy hair maybe worth it but no. My hair is still brown. When I told her I wanted blonder pieces this time she told me she didn't think we should do blonder. Then she dyed my hair all brown again even the pieces that were a little lighter(not blonde). It didn't make sense to me to make it brown all over again to then bleach my hair again. My hair looks and feels worse than when I started going to her. She at the end of the appt asked me how I liked the brown. This is a woman that doesn't like to be told that you don't like it. How can I like something when I never said hey put more brown in my hair. I'm done. The worst is when I hate my hair and I still give them a big tip. Out of embarrassment for not tipping but I should have saved my tip money for the next hair dresser that has to fix my hair. If you have brown hair and you think she is going to make you blonde she is not. Save your money. read more

Mane has beautiful vibes and offered me a wonderful experience with one exception. My cut was great and I had the best experience with Tiffany! She gave me the best massage and shampoo and made sure I was happy every step of the way. The environment was mostly very welcoming and I loved the decor. The one experience I had an annoyance with was the reception. When I called we had trouble understanding each other. She thought I was calling for someone when my first question was if they had any openings for a hair cut. But that wasn't big deal of course. I made an appointment to come in in 20 minutes. They have a policy to keep my credit card on file in case I was a no show. Which I understood but because I had my hands tied at the moment she let me bypass giving her the card since I was coming in so soon. I had a lot of trouble finding parking in the area which made me run late- I called when I was 2 minutes late (appointment was at 12:15 I called at 12:17 to let her know I was having trouble finding any parking). When I arrived she was pleasant until when I apologized for being a bit late she pointedly told me "yeah I told you there was going to be trouble parking" she never did tell me anything of the sort. It left me feeling guilty for being late even though my hair dresser was still On her previous client. I wanted to leave with the annoyances but stayed and ended up being happy with the haircut. On checkout I paid and declined to make another appointment at that time. But she still asked to have my card back to keep it on file. I said I wasn't comfortable having my card on file especially since I didn't want to make another appointment at the time. She told me it was for cancellation reasons in case I cancel in the future. Why would they need my card if I wasn't making another appointment? I told her once again I was not comfortable with it and next time I do decide to come in I will give her my card info in case I do cancel in the hypothetical future. This apparently was not acceptable and we clearly had an issue with one another. If this is a policy at Mane that they NEED to have my card on file for a one time hair cut then it makes me feel very uneasy. I have been a victim of theft and it is my right no refuse to have my card on file for no reason. I really loved Tiffany and would want to come back for her but after all the hassle I don't know if I will be back. Beautiful salon, great hair stylists, pricey 85 for a hair cut but the policy they have regarding cards and the way it was explained to me was very annoying. I did have to give them my card info to leave the salon. So instead of being happy with my cut I am just annoyed. read more

Sarah Davis is the best! I have curly thick wavy hair and Sarah's attention to detail help the shaping, which to me is the most important thing. I don't brush my hair, so the only time it sees a comb is when it gets a cut. Many stylists can't seem to make it look the way I want, but Sarah actually listens and asks for the feedback during and after the cut. I met her while she was at her former salon, and have followed her to Mane. I don't have time to write a thousand word review about a blowout, but suffice it to say that a personality clash along with an inability to do my hair the way I specifically asked for caused this review. I'm sure I'm going to get some combative response like the one below on the one star review (the salon's comment was three times as long as the actual review) and I don't care. This salon is crowded, it's busy and noisy. Don't come here for a laid back time. My stylist became combative when I became increasingly unhappy with how my blowout was going. If you read my reviews you will see I have had a thousand blowouts, I know what I want, I know how to explain it (with pictures!) and I expect to get it. That didn't happen here. I went to talk to the manager about the situation and how I felt Danni treated me and while the manager was very kind you can tell they have zero desire to hear anything but 'this place is so great!' I'm sure it is, but it wasn't for me and that's my opinion. I would never go back, the products they use to wash hair (R+Co) are not great (and really not for my hair), the stylist was combative from the time I voiced displeasure and it was a crappy experience. You can tell with all their five stars they do NOT appreciate anything less. That's not an attitude that's going to fix anything here so I'll just leave my review and never go back. read more

Loved the way she was able to get those waves to stay the whole night in my hair! She advised me on some shampoo and conditioner that will help with my dry scalp as well. They both have been doing my hair for the last 4 years and if they ever have to stop for some life reason I may cry. Mane is a fabulous salon and I can't get over how great of a job Sheri does on my brows. I'm sure there are a lot of bad eyebrow sob stories out there about how they'll never grow back after going tweeze crazy in high school. That would be me... Until Sheri took a look. A few waxes later and the missing spots were starting to grow back in, and I really attribute that to her meticulous sculpting and the extensive amount of time she takes to make them PERFECT. I'll never go to anyone else. She's the best in Chicago! Mane Salon has been a lifesaver from head to toe. The salon as a whole is so chic, so welcoming and has the most talented staff. Colleen is a breath of fresh air every time you arrive. She greets you with a huge personality and is always super attentive to your every need. And I mean EVERY need. I was getting my eyebrows sculpted with Sheri before a charity event, bent forward to grab something and tore the entire side of my gown (whoops).
