Love Creative Mix Salon! I can always count on Yvette. I trust her blindly. My haircuts are always great, she is the best with cut, color and highlights. Prices are very reasonable! The atmosphere is always so positive with great stylist, positive attitudes, awesome background music, very clean. Everyone is so professional and super friendly. My appointments are always on time. I appreciate that on many occasions Yvette has gone out of her way to accomodate me even if it means her staying a little late. Usual haircut: high fade Zero out fade pushed two on top I've been going to visit Mimi for 3 years now, and she is by far one of my favorite barbers in the North Side. She is very personable and easy to talk to. Her haircuts are excellent, and her personality makes you want to be one of her regulars. The salon itself is very clean, inviting, and the owner Yvette is very kind, just as much as the rest of the hairdressers and barbers. Attached some photos of the fade here. Will be coming here every 3-4 weeks! read more

Made an appointment and my stylist NEVER SHOWED UP. I sat in the salon for 40 minutes waiting for Anthony, the owner tried contacting him and didn't get a response at all. Left 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time because what???? The woman who was there was absolutely lovely and incredibly apologetic. I didn't get her name but she seemed very good at the fade she did while I waited. However, would absolutely not recommend making an appointment with Anthony, as he cannot be bothered to even show up. read more

Let me preface this review by saying I am VERY particular about my hair. Before finding Yvette and Creative Mix Salon, I was bopping from salon to salon all around Chicago, never returning to the same place twice. I've been going to Yvette for almost three years now, and now I will never trust anyone else with my hair! Once you find a good hairstylist, you stick with them, so I guess this means I'm basically married to Yvette. And I couldn't be happier! Yvette, Nick, Jocelyn, and everyone at Creative Mix is SO nice, makes you feel welcomed, and treats you like family. I know how nerve wracking it can be trying a new salon, but from the moment you walk in you feel right at ease. The environment it bright, open, and welcoming! From cut to color, and everything in between, someone on the Creative Mix team has you covered. Yvette herself is a master teacher with TIGI/Bedhead and travels the world teaching and educating stylist of all levels aka she knows what's doing. Since she's the expert, she'll tell you honestly if a cut or color isn't right for your face/hair type. That is what you need in a stylist! For my hair, her and I will come together and discuss options, but ultimately I leave it up to her because she's the expert and I trust her. I could go on and on why this salon has literally changed my life for the better! If there was ever a sixth star option, Creative Mix deserves it! Seriously, so blessed to have found them. If you're looking for a new salon, look no further. And thank me later! So much love for Yvette and all of the Creative Mix team. read more

I have needed this treasure of a salon for a couple special occasions this summer and Nick, Mimi, and Anthony were all patient with me -- listened, and helped me look like a million dollars for a special occasion this summer. I had an urgent issue this weekend and they juggled schedules and fit me in --- and I felt so much better by the time I walked out of there. Thank you Creative Mix team -- I am so glad that I got to know all of you! read more

SO glad I have found this place on yelp near my new apartment! As an Asian guy with nappy, thick, fast-growing hair, it is very hard to come by a place (barber or salon) that KNOWS not only how to style your hair, but also FIXES the damage that has been done from previous cuts. Yvette was able to understand my struggles with thick hair and knew what I wanted with a few pictures and what she recommends for my hair/face type. Later on, I found out she's a teacher and that's when you know they're legit and know what they are talking about. She was able to fix my cowlick after two cuts (the growing part was hard but it was all worthwhile). I can't wait to get the different kinds of salon grade treatments from Nick that can nourish thick and damaged hair to become smoother and healthier looking after a dye session. I will definitely be getting my hair bleached here as well when the time comes. I could not stop raving about Salon Salome to my friends and they all loved the place. Pricing is reasonable, if not a bargain because of their salon quality (less than the price I'd get at a barber for men's cuts AND they shampoo you). The hairstylists here are knowledgeable, down to earth, and chill af. This salon will definitely be my forever Chicago go-to place for my hair needs. read more

First off let me say I have gotten my hair cut there a few times... Really loved the atmosphere and the people... My Wife also goes there more regularly than I (fancy haircuts are mostly lost upon me.. generally I cut my own, My Wife however is prettier and fancier.. :)) That said, I am writing this review on behalf of my 1 year old... On Halloween the wife and I took her in their for her first haircut (she has a very good relationship with her stylist) Not only did my daughter get an adorable first haircut.. but she had a blast while doing it.. Everyone wanted to say hi.. The place was decorated and had food.. There was even a lady doing body painting who painted my little girls face for free! We had a great time and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone! Thanks Everyone! Thank YOU Letty! Greg read more

Best salon in Chicago - hands down. This place is so clean and comfy. They always have snacks, beverages, and good music, which makes a huge difference. The employees are always so welcoming and helpful. The hairstylist I see, Nick, is the only person who has cut my hair since I was 12 years old. I'm now 24 years old and still won't allow anyone else to touch my hair. My hair is really curly and he's a pro with curly hair (he also has curly hair). So if you have curly hair please do yourself a favor and see Nick. He will have you coming back for more. Love you Nick! read more

Prior to coming here I had never cut my hair nor done anything drastic to my appearance of any kind; so of course I was apprehensive and skeptical to even walk through the doors initially. It was something I had always wanted to do, but lacked the initiative to do so. Nick was my hairstylist and he was amazing. Didn't push me or rush me in anyway, but was empathetic. Of course it being such a huge ordeal for me, I arrived with my "crew" and he joked and bantered with them as well. End result: I couldn't be more pleased. I'll keep driving on back to see Nick, because he called it: I love getting haircuts now lol The place was also very clean, atmosphere very pleasant and I've always been able to find street parking around or in front. Great place, highly recommend it! read more

I am so in love with this salon! I went in with a recommendation from a friend and was a bit hesitant at first. Genetically, I have less hair than everyone and they're very thin. I was worried that coloring it will make me look even balder even though it was time for a new change. However, when I went in, Yvette took her time to sit down and help me come up with a solution solely based on my situation. Her dedication to her customers are shown through her honesty, diligence and patience to make sure it is something that, not only do I want but also something that I need. she was working on my hair, she provided a lot of different helpful tips on how to maintain and strengthen it. I loved this so much about her. She was passing on the knowledge she had to someone who desperately needs it. My visits to other salons have never been so fruitful. After we finished, I was in awe by my new transformation. It wasn't just a new look; it was a confidence booster! To this day, I still get a bunch of comments about my hair (thanks Yvette!) and it just makes me feel so good on a day to day basis. The salon was really clean and didn't feel clustered at all, which added to a great salon experience. So would I go again? ABSOLUTELY! Would I recommend this to friends or family? ALSO ABSOLUTELY!! read more

I called and got a same day appt with Summer. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she gave me the exact color and style from the photo. I went from outdated foil highlights to a painted silvery light blonde with a bomb shadow root. She used olaplex to keep my hair from breaking. The price was super reasonable which was surprising due to how much time she spent with me. I will definitely be back and recommend her to anyone looking for a stylist who keeps up with new hair trends and techniques. Btw she's also an educator so she really knows her stuff! I wish she had more pics on her Instagram bc that girl really works magic. read more

Yvette! She is amazing! After hearing so many great things about her from friends and relatives, I finally decided to schedule an appointment. I love my layers! Lincoln park is home to me and Yvette is part of the community. The salon looked great and i was excited to get my hair done by the artist. "I'm not going there...it's for girls. Their sign is pink! And anyway, you can just cut my sideburns. That's all I want cut." Once we got over the pink sign, we got down to business. Nick (who has LONG hair, thank God) is my new pied piper. He patiently explained and convinced my 10 year-old how it is that a "hair cut" doesn't mean you can't grow your hair long, or that afterward, your almost long hair will NOT be "short." And Nick cogently explained how in fact with split ends like the mop before us had in abundance, this hair wasn't going to grow much more or very well. I got the "Dad, why didn't you just tell me that?" eye roll, smirk and shoulder shrug, and the haircut began. Smilin' kid. Happy Dad. $15 bucks. My kind of haircut (and kid). read more

I came here because I was searching for a hair salon in LP that was cheap and had good reviews.. simple as that. I hadn't cut my hair in over a year and was nervous to since I love my long hair. Alonzo did a great job and calmed me down. He did a great job cutting my ombre so that it still looked good after 5-6 inches were taken off. I didn't want to look like I had blond tips at my ends haha. Anyway, nice $32 intro price for a cut, great service, nice smelling hair products, awesome blow dry at the end. I will be returning. read more

I know I've had a good haircut when I can't stop playing with my hair. I become "that girl" who flips their hair around, even when there is no reason for it. "Look at me, look at this hair!" Even though it might be a little greasy, or have a huge dent in it from having it up all day, in my head, it looks awesome. Yvette has a new customer. Actually, she has two since my mother is the one who put her trust in her first, and her hair still looks good. The salon is very unassuming. It's larger than it appears from the outside, yet not too crowded on the side. Bonus, everyone there was really friendly, even the other clients. I went in in a sour mood after a bad night and left feeling the exact opposite. I'm not one to enjoy getting a haircut, but I can see that all changing now. read more

I hate to be a wet blanket here, and I was on the fence between 2 and 3 stars, but gave it 3 for the price I paid. The sole reason I wanted to try a new salon was based on price. I love my stylist, but as I'm growing out my hair, I don't think I needed a $60 haircut for a trim. I frequently walked by Salon Salome and saw a sign for a $32 haircut sign. I called and made an appointment and was told it was $60. huh...okay, maybe I had read the sign wrong? So I walked by the salon a different day and it was there. I called back before my appointment and was told the stylist I had set up my appointment with would honor the $32. GREAT! The customer service was a little iffy, and I guess I didn't tip enough for my stylist's needs because he didn't even look at me after I handed it to him. Conversation changed from dead silence, to talking about him him him, to smack talking his co-worker. uhm? He did give me some tips on managing an oily scalp, so that was nice. But he would not let up about me not liking dry shampoo. Sorry I'm not sorry. He also looked annoyed when I asked if he had a brush or something to take out the hair that had fallen all over my boots during the cut. To give my stylist credit, my hair looks cute. I did not have a traumatic experience with leaving my usual stylist to get my hair chopped off (guilty of this happening), and the cut I got is super easy to manage. Would I go back? Probably not, but I wouldn't tell people NOT to go here. read more

I was recommended by a mutual friend of Laura P.'s and fell in love. the girls there love to laugh and joke around. I love the camaraderie of the salon. Its truly one of those little old lady gab shops with out the little old ladies. Granted some of the girls are getting there! Just kidding. I had Leticia and loved her. She did my brows, color, cut and everything else. In fact my head shot here is of the cut she did! I'd still be seeing her if not for my recent move to Indy! MISS YOU!!! Honestly the only thing I didn't like was you can pay for the services on credit card, but the tip has to be cash. Just a bit inconvenient is all, but there's a Chase around the corner. read more

If you're looking for great cut and color come here! Nick is amazing. He will make you fall in love with your hair after he's done. He dyed my hair from black to purple to dark purple/blue to blue! Creative Mix Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I stopped in here around December/January as a walk-in, desperately needing a haircut on a Friday night. I was matched up with Lori -- she did an absolutely amazing job. I have short hair that also has a lot of wave in it, but she had had the haircut that I wanted, so she understood exactly how to do it. Everyone there was super friendly and fun and made no fuss about me walking in at 7:00 on a Friday night. I stopped going for awhile because I had to put myself on a super budget (I got a scary $13 haircut at Aveda and am not going back...I think I got the one crazy girl there -- out of fairness, I'm sure it's fine 90% of the time), but I just went back a few weekends ago to have my hair cut and highlighted, again by Lori. It looks absolutely amazing and I have gotten so many compliments on it. She's great for short/mid-length hair (that has been my experience), but I'm sure that she can cut anything well. I have nothing but good things to say about this place and all the cute haircuts I have seen walk out of their doors! If anyone ends up going there, let me know what you think! read more

I'm with you ladies... best salon in the city. I was introduced to Yvette, the owner, about 2 years ago. She was nice enough donate a cut and color to the theatre company I was working with at the time. (My hair is dark brown and the director wanted it blond... yikes) It took her 3 visits, but my hair looked amazing and healthy. She didn't even blink an eye when she realized it was going to take several visits to get my hair so light. Ever since then, I've been a huge, huge fan. I always feel like I a movie star when I walk out of there because she cuts my hair perfectly. I've lived in the city for about 7 years and I've tried several different salons. Not only is Yvette the best stylist ever, the salon prices can't be beat. read more

Most dudes get their hair cut at places like Sport Clips or the Hair Cuttery, and their cut looks, well... cheap and generic. I think going to a salon is worth the money IF you can find the right stylist. Some do better with men's cuts than others. I've been getting my cuts done by Jocelyn for about two years now. She always has made my hair look great and doesn't get discouraged when I occasionally tell her "just make it shorter and make it look good." Granted, over the past couple years she knows what I like and what I typically go for. Only "fault" I can give is that I wish Jocelyn would hound me to come in more, as I typically put off haircuts until it's far too long. All joking aside, she's a great hairstylist and a lot of fun too. If you're a dude and looking to step up from the cookie-cutter places, give Salon Salome a try. read more
