They did a good job but charging $30 for eyebrow threading is absolute highway robbery when most places charge $10-15. You can get a decent pedicure that takes 30 minutes for $40... and threading takes maybe 5-10 minutes... Never going back here. read more

This place is a complete rip off, I pay $4 or $5 for eyebrow threading at my favorite spots in suburbs. For convenience I quickly googled a spot close by and drove up. I paid $5 in parking and walked in. I was served by a rep in training who was super slow and pulling one hair at a time..... needless to say I was in pain!!! At some point I gave up and got up!! She completed my transaction and asked for $25 for just eyebrow threading ... my jaws were on the floor! For a service I never paid more than $5 I would imagine city price to be $10, or $15 ..... I could not imagine the mark up here and the deceptive management! They have purposely left off pricing from the premises as most customers will complain.... I highly recommend driving to nearby places in loop, or south loop. This place is not worth the price or the terribly job that will hurt you for hours. read more

I love this place but the owners need to put up signs stating NO CELL PHONE use. This is a spa setting, one which I pay top dollar to come to relax and get eyebrows threaded and tinted. Hate to not support women-owned small businesses but have to significantly downgrade my previous 5-star review for what I feel is unsafe behavior during a pandemic. I showed up early (5-10 mins) to my 1 PM appointment and looked in to find Kamini, who is still the sweetest, doing a massage and jade rollerball on a River North bro who was maskless. (As an aside, your facial hair and brows scaping is not more important than anyone else's well being). I have two sisters and two BILs who are frontline healthcare professionals, two of whom got COVID so I take my COVID regulations very seriously. So I'm very disappointed in seeing them allow customers in the salon without a mask for any number of time. Had I not come early, would it have been disclosed to me that the previous client was unmasked during service? How thoroughly would the station have been wiped down? I recognize that these services are not necessary during a pandemic and I was very impressed with precautions they took during my previous appointments. I spoke to Sabina, the owner, who followed up with Kamini. They are allowing services where customers are unmasked for up to 5 minutes. I don't personally feel comfortable with that, especially people outside my pod, and especially not River North bro (bc who knows what else you feel entitled to do without wearing a mask) and feel that this should be disclosed on the Yelp site AND their website that they're allowing this so folks can make their own decisions based on their own risk appetite. I truly enjoyed the service I got from here over the years but will not be returning. Stay safe! read more

So impressed with the measures taken by Thread Away. I had been going to them long before COVID, but I haven't been since March. In an effort to minimize going out, I've stopped most of the cosmetic appointments I used to have so many of, but a person can only look at their shaggy eyebrows in the webex camera for so long so after a lot of going back and forth I finally decided to go. The studio doesn't look at all like it did before - everything unnecessary has been taken out and they have a very easy to use appointment scheduler. I have been getting my eyebrows done for 14 years and have been coming to Thread Away for the past 3 years now. I can safely say that Thread Away provides the best service I've ever had! While always listening / accepting my preferred technique of wax first, thread to detail, then trim, they also share their own expert knowledge as needed to ensure my brows look great and that I'm making no regrettable choices. They even go above & beyond to give a massage which is not common for other spots and truly makes them stand out from the rest. They've taken careful safety measures to protect from COVID spread but also manage to not reduce the quality of their services. Last but not least, the staff is SO kind every time. I usually go to Kamini out of long time loyalty, but the other ladies do a wonderful job as well! In 3 years, I have never had a bad experience with Thread Away. I went here because it was closest to me and had decent reviews. The lady who threaded my eyebrows was nice, but I was upset with the results. She threaded off a chunk of my right eyebrow. I didn't make a big deal out of it at the time because there is nothing she could've done to fix it, the damage was done. Ive gone to several different eyebrow threading places and this has never happened to me. The price of $25 for eyebrow threading is also the highest I have ever seen and Ive lived in more expensive cities. I figured for the price the service would be great, but sadly my right eyebrow is completely ruined until it grows back. She even tried to tell me there was a gap in my brow instead of acknowledging she threaded it off, which upset me even more. Nice place, personally wont be returning. read more

I really liked the shaping of my brows and the materials used for threading. however, personally nothing justifies 25$ for eyebrows and 15$ for upper lip. I just cannot be convinced that is a normal price when across different states and cities (yes including chicago) it has never been more than 15-20. mixed feelings because the result was good but the shocking price sours the experience. plus, there were hairs still under my eyebrows and no "complimentary face message" that other reviewers mentioned. not asking the price beforehand is my fault, but almost 50$ with tip is absurd. So after gawking Thread Away for over a year already, I finally decided to try this place out during my lunch break. I was hesitating on making the trip since a lot of people here mentioned being red afterwards and I didn't want to walk back into the office looking ridiculous. but I decided that if I didn't go today, then I probably won't ever go. So I dared myself. At first impression, the place was narrow, but very clean. There were two women: one at the front desk and one that came from the back to do my threading. I normally get my threading on Devon. Those places are super-cheap. Thread Away charges a lot more than they do, but if all of downtown can over charge, then why can't they? That's just how business goes, so I'm not even going to complain about that. I had her do my eyebrows as I was way overdue to get them done. I would say that this lady does it better than they do on Devon. I gave her a good tip and hopefully she'll remember to continue to do another good job on me the next time I show up. Overall, my experience here was great. I'll definitely come back when I'm due to have my brows done again. I absolutely love this place. I have been coming here for years. I go to Kamani who is very sweet and does a fantastic job every time. I wanted to review this place post covid. I was hesitant to come back as I get my eye brows and lip threaded. The threading usually entails putting the thread in her mouth. I was not sure how this would be safe but decided I would give it a try trusting they would not put anyone in danger. I was correct. The thread never touched anyone's mouth. Instead, the thread is wrapped around her neck. They completely remodeled the store and it is super safe and clean. Please, please, please go back and give them your business again. Hamini was awesome! I hadnt gotten my eyebrows threaded or waxed for almost two years because i was letting them thicken back up after over tweezing and then was just too nervous to trust them to anyone else. Plus they already grow very uneven. But i am planning a trip in a couple of weeks so i figured id try out this place and if it worked out i'd have somewhere to go before my trip. And boy did it work out! I got there and only waited about 5 minutes with no appointment. It was clean and nicely decorated. I sat down in the chair and told Hamini i really wanted to keep as much thickness as possible and i just wanted to have my eyebrows cleaned up she didn't need to give me a new arch or anything substantial. 5 painless minutes later i was all done and SO happy with the results. easy checkout process and she gave me her card. There was also a lady next to me getting her brows done. When the threader finished the client pointed out a couple of places she wanted changed. The threader politely explained to her why she hadn't touched those areas (she wanted to give the ladies eyebrows a chance to fill in in those spots) the lady said she hated the "porcupine look" which we all know and hate lol and the threader immediately and politely said ok if thats what you like that's what we'll do and let the lady watch as she went back through and hit those areas. I went in for a Brazilian with Farha. I have gone to a couple different places for a Brazilian in Chicago and she was the best. She was quick enough but also was good about managing my pain through the ways she pulled. She gave me a little hot moist towel for after. She also gives you access to the oil and tissues to clean off the residual oil after. This is great for someone like me who usually does this on a lunch break. No one wants to walk around all day with sticky wax on their bum bum. The room and salon were super clean too. You can't use the bathroom right now due to covid. read more

Like a manicure, unless you go to some ridiculous high end salon, there's not a lot of fluctuation. My threading went fine, and honestly they are not shaped how I want them (not as much arch as I normally like), and it looks almost fake. There was no "omg yes feel like a girl again" feeling like I normally get when they ask me to check in the mirror. After two months w/out threading, would have expected this. A few weeks ago my eyebrows were dangerously approaching unibrow status and something needed to be done. My coworker gets her eyebrows threaded and we were talking about it. I never had, but Thread Away is nearby my office, so I decided to give it a try. I went to Thread Away at 11 or so to avoid a lunch rush and there was no one there. There were two Indian woman working on the salon and the older one was going to perform my service. She was really nice and patient with me when I told her it was my first time. She did a really good job, but I'm not going to lie, it did hurt a lot. The look, though, is very clean and polished. It's been weeks and my eyebrows have kept their shape. My coworker tells me it's less painful the more you get threading done. Also, my skin has always been sensitive to wax and although threading is supposed to be better for your skin, my face was still quite pink/red after the procedure. So, note for next time, maybe go after work, not at lunch! read more
