I was looking for a threading place in River North because my usual threading place is across the street from my house in New York. I usually fill in my brows so walking long distance without them filled is not ideal. Thread Away showed up being the closest threading salon by me so I went to clean up my bushy brows. I've been here twice before and walked out pretty happy. There was no wait on the Tuesday I went but they were pretty busy. A girl kept coming in as someone was leaving. I ended up spending about 5 minutes in the chair and was done. I usually experience some sort of pain when I go threading but this experience was so painless. I did however notice when I came home there were some baby hairs that the lady missed. She did however get the thicker brows that were out of place. The cost is $15 for a threading but for the area I think it's fine. I live in New York and there's threading places literally everywhere so you can get your eyebrows done for less than $10 and your whole face done for less than $40. So, the price is a little high for what I am use to. They do have a loyalty system where your 10th brow is free. read more

I went there a few days ago. They did a horrible job. It looked like I didn't even do my eyebrows! There were many hairs left. I know I said to keep it thick, but I mean it needs to be cleaned up quite a bit. It was also very painful. She threaded so slow and I could feel every hair being pulled out. I've been going here for a few years now and I wasn't hesitant to come back once they reopened, but was I extremely pleasantly surprised by how accommodating and thoughtful the experience was. The location has been completely redesigned and it is BEAUTIFUL! I thought I wouldn't be able to have lotion or a massage afterwards, but my threader carefully gave me lotion via a cotton ball and their new massage tool is REALLY great. It was such an enjoyable experience and nothing at all was lacking due to any restrictions due to COVID. It was also super easy to book an appointment and I had to reschedule many times because of conflicts and it was a seamless modification process. So happy you are all back! read more

I have been meaning to review this threading salon for ages. The salons were recently renovated and they are gorgeous, comfortable, and clean. There is a location on Wells and another on Chicago. Both have wonderful threaders! I am blonde and like my brows to remain as full and natural looking as possible. Shazia is great at cleaning me up while maintaining my natural shape without taking too much off. I explain what I want and she always gets it right. I go for eyebrow threading in addition to eyelash and brow tinting. I am always happy with the results. The cherry on top is the temple/forehead massage they give at the end. My brows are sparse because I'm aging but she threads and shapes them so expertly that once she's finished I look like I have the brows of a 21 year old! Genetics is a funny thing. It giveth (me my mom's killer legs) and it taketh away (by cursing me with my dad's unibrow.) Being that I'm a fair skinned, dark haired German gal, I am constantly maintaining my hairs and usually get my brows done on Devon. My brows were getting so out of hand that I was starting to look like Abe Vigoda, so I made an emergency stop at Thread Away last night. In comparison, Thread Away is a more relaxing and calm atmosphere than my usual place on Devon. Also, the woman who did my brows was nicer and had a better "brow-side" manner. I had perfectly sculpted brows in less than 5 minutes and received a nice little forehead/eye massage, which was a godsend after a long day of staring at teeny tiny spreadsheets. All that for a low, low price of $15? I'll be back for sure! Thread Away also carries jewelry and a small selection of clothing items. I'm a girl that can't resist fun costume jewelry so I also picked up an Indian style bangle for $10. STEAL!! read more

Why don't our freaking hair get the hint?!?!? If we get rid of them on a regular basis, it's because they are not WELCOME on our face (armpits, legs, bikini line, back, chest, soup&sandwiches, wherever). So they should just have the courtesy to stop growing, geez... I really wish it were that simple. That would save me time, money, tears, sweat and blood. Figure of speech of course. At least, the blood part. As for the tears, I shed quite a few yesterday on my chair, laying backwards for the first threading of my life. Not because it's really painful - it is a bit, true, more so than waxing - but it's just a natural response of my super sensitive eyes. It's just what they do, cry and water. Stupid them. And it's actually because of their hyper sensitivity that I wanted to embrace threading, that only gets rid of the unwanted hair - not the thin layer of skin beneath them. Plus - you have to love the natural dimension of it. It was a very minimalist experience - 5 minutes tops, two words muttered by my 'threadress' (!!), two threads of cotton, a chair. Stat. The $15 price tag was steeper than I was expecting. Good job, but I will look for a cheaper option (which I have already found actually....hehehe...) I got pink eye twice after getting my eyebrows threaded here. The first time I had pink eye, it was the first time I had ever had pink eye in my life. I wasn't sure where I had gotten it from, but I did go to Thread Away earlier that week for eyebrow threading. After coming back for eyebrow threading again and getting pink eye again two days later, I was 100% sure I contracted it from Thread Away because both times I had pink eye, it was days after going to Thread Away for eyebrow threading. I haven't had pink eye again since then and it is because I have stayed away from Thread Away. Apparently there is a risk of contracting pink eye and other eye infections from eyebrow threading if the threader doesn't use clean practices. The threader didn't even do a good job the last time I went, considering how expensive it is! I haven't been back to Thread Away and I never will. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. It wasn't worth money I spent on visits to the doctor's office, the hassle of getting prescriptions for the infections, and not being able to go to work/socialize because it is very contagious. If you do decide to take the risk and go here, please insist that the threader sanitize her hands before working on you, and make sure she doesn't touch your eyes. I recommend skipping the eyebrow massage because I recall the threader touching my eye during the massage, which is likely how I ended up with pink eye. read more

I have gone to countless threading salons throughout my life and Thread Away is easily the worst threading experience I have ever had. I came here once in August 2014 and left with eyebrows that looked like thin parentheses. I had to grow them out for months after that to get them back to normal. Because the Yelp reviews are so good, I came again one year later hoping that it was just a one-time bad experience. It wasn't. This time, my left eyebrow looked significantly different than the other. The woman trimmed my eyebrows with scissors (which is totally normal) but she completely botched the left one. I honestly wanted to cry afterwards. I asked her about it when we were finished and told her that I was extremely unsatisfied - she said, "that's just how your eyebrows are," insinuating that my eyebrows are naturally messed up, which is just not true. She refused to admit that she did a horrible job and then proceeded to charge me a ridiculous amount - $25 for eyebrows and upper lip. Bottom line: I would seriously avoid this place at all cost. I have no idea how they have such good reviews. Their service isn't good and they are extremely overpriced. read more

Went there to get my eyebrows done. Been here a few times but never wrote a review for them before. Pros: - Quick and convenient - At the end of my last visit, Kamini asked if I wanted lotion to soothe the skin. Sure! Just a splat here, splat there right? She proceeded to give me a massage around my forehead and temples that was so relaxing that I just about fell asleep in the chair. Yeah, it was that good. I have been here probably 3 or 4 times both pre-covid and recently. They used to do a decent job and were always overpriced but I went here out of convenience. However, I will never go again. They raised their prices even more which would be understandable if they did a good job. I wish I took before and after pictures for an example but it didn't even look like they did anything. I tried to ask for more shaping for my eyebrows but after asking once and still not seeing a difference I gave up. For sure not worth the money. This location is super convenient, so I always go here. Disclaimer: I've never had my eyebrows threaded elsewhere, so I can't really compare to other places. That said, I think they do an amazing job. Way better than what I can do with a tweezers (not pretty!). I came here during my lunch hour for the first time today, I think it was like a 2 minute wait and yes I am completely satisfied. It's hard to dish out $15 when I very well know I can go elsewhere cheaper but let me tell you it is not easy to thread/wax-- shape my eyebrows. I am cursed with having a wide growth area for eyebrow hair but very little of it so if you remove too much (like one or two hairs) it makes a huge difference and I'll walk out with pencil thin eyebrows. With that being said the woman who threaded them did a perfect job and tried to make them look as much like each other as possible. Another eyebrow curse I've inherited. This is actually the first place I have been to since moving to Chicago, and I must say that they are EXCELLENT! Kamini is awesome, she is fast and skilled and always so nice. She even offers you a short facial massage to soothe the treated areas and it really helps. I can be a total ice queen. I don't crack a smile at newborns, and romantic movies make me gag. Yet, threading continually causes buckets of tears to flow as if I were a sentimental lush. Until now. Kamini is an amazing artist that moves quickly and painlessly. I was so impressed with my first visit that this establishment become my go to threading salon. As many have mentioned $15 can seem high for threading especially when you compare the price to places on Devon. However, I've never had such efficient and friendly service. The salon is also aesthetically pleasing, clean and comfortable. There may be a wait if you choose to go during lunch time on a work day, but the queue moves quickly. If you are really pressed for time or if you have severely sensitive skin you may opt (as I do) to skip the lotion and massage. Also, be sure to sign up for the frequenter card. Ten visits equals $10 dollars off your next visit, which is nothing to cry about. read more

Eyebrow threading hurts a like a filthy dirty rotten bitch. This is a fact. Do you remember that Weird Al song where he said he'd rather jump naked in a huge pile of thumbtacks? Or have a hundred thousand paper cuts on his face? (you get the idea) Well that's how I feel about threading. Waxing I have no problems with, but I have sensitive skin and so therefore will break out if I get my brows waxed. Looks like I'm either walking around looking like Teen Wolf or threading. And hairy ladies ain't the style right now so I find myself every couple weeks at Thread Away. It's a tad expensivo,yes, but the location cannot be beat. All of the ladies are really nice and very good at what they do. Occasionally a little TOO good. Since it's basically torture in that chair, you needn't fuss or fret or tweeze the tiniest little hair - it's just going to grow back anyway. But I suppose I cannot begrudge them for doing a very thorough job. I just swear a lot under my breath and jump and twitch til I'm out of there. Got a full face thread here and was actually very happy with the results. Threading lady was patient and kind. She really took her time and went back to make sure she didn't miss anything. Have had my face threaded in the past and I know I usually get a terrible reaction, but not this time. My face was slightly irritated for a couple hours but then totally smooth after that. Why the 4 stars and not 5? The price. This place is extremely expensive!!! My face+lotioning set me back a solid 60 DOLLARS! I was truly shocked. Thread Away gets a great rating because of the attention to detail and the fact that my eyebrows matched shape AND size afterward! My threader Asha was warm, not too chatty, and made an effort to provide comfortable service. Although I am used to paying about 50-60% less for my hair removal service, I must travel waaaaaaaaaay far north or somewhere in the suburbs for the service... Major trade-off. Essentially the location, convenience and ambiance of Thread Away are big selling points for this place. They even sell little trinkets here including earrings, bangles, bindi, anklets, and purses for a little more than you'd find in shops on Devon and for less than H&M or XXI. read more

I walked in a week before & asked about prices for henna tattoos & they kindly gave me a range & then told me to come back on Wednesday because that is the day the young lady comes in to do the henna. I just went today & showed her a picture of the kind I'd like. She then began to freehand a super beautiful design! They are really friendly & aren't expensive at all! My henna was only $15! When I don't thread my eyebrows for awhile, I start to resemble Bert from Sesame Street. True story. So, when my regular spot (Carmen's) closed down, I felt lost and afraid. Sidenote: I am not positive they have closed - I was just told that they were moving locations January 1 and they would be back up in operation SOMEWHERE in February. I haven't verified if they actually closed down, or if they did a LOLJK at the last minute and decided to stay in their current space. I'm too lazy to actually check on what is actually happening up there. Anyway. I was beginning to look like Bert and I needed some ladies that were well versed in the art of sculpting brows. Thread Away had some pretty decent reviews and it's close to my work, so off I went. Walked in, no appointment necessary. There were 3 women up front - a receptionist and 2 threaders. Cute, small space - right in the middle of River North. I sat and waited my turn with a threader. Once it was my turn (which was only after 5 minutes of waiting), I sat down and she went to town. I sheepishly apologized for the state of my unkept brows - they were out of hand. I really have to hand it to the woman that worked on me - it was by FAR the least painful threading experience I've had. Barely batted an eye(lash)brow. My brows look great and natural - they don't look thin like they sometimes do after a thorough threading. $15 before tip. Yeah, it is TWICE as expensive as Carmen's was (eek!) but it was far less painful and very accessible to me (in terms of location). I'll be back. read more

There are numerous places to get my eyebrows done that are more convenient to me (including a waxing place IN MY BUILDING!) however, I still take a 1.5 mile walk once every 2 -3 weeks for Thread Away. I am serious about my brows - someone can screw up my haircut and it won't phase me, but screw up my brows and I'll want to cry. Ive been going here for a few years now and I'm always happy with their work. And then, let's talk about the head massage they gove you afterwards (hint: if they ask if you want lotion, always say yes!) It is the best - the scent of the lotion they use is so calming, and even just a few minutes of the massage can SERIOUSLY de-stress you! As others have mentioned, they are more expensive than other places by around $5 or so, but come on - that's the price of a latte, and a small price to pay when the experience is actually incredibly relaxing and spa-like. read more

Maybe I'm too gracious with my stars, but the service and cost was fantastic. I was in and out within 15 minutes and the woman who threaded my eyebrows was friendly and efficient. She did a fantastic job and managed to tame my eyebrows. The staff was extremely friendly and made small talk and wanted to know how I found out about the place-so I was even more incented to review the place to bring in more business for them! One of the bonuses of this place is they give you a card and sticker for every service performed there. Once you hit 10-your next service is free-can't beat that! read more

Yesterday I visited Thread Away after reading all of the reviews on Yelp. I was NOT disappointed! The establishment is very clean! Even though I was a walk in, Kamini was able to take me right away. She is a true professional! I've been trying to grow out my eyebrows due to an extremely, extremely poor waxing job & they were a mess! She shaped & tamed my eyebrows in less than 5 minutes. Her swiftness & precision made this, by far, the least painful threading ever! I did opt for the lotion because I have very sensitve skin & she gave me a WONDERFUL massage, as you'll read on many reviews (so worth it!). I experieced very little redness (and I probably wouldn't have had any if I had remembered to take ibuprofen before coming). There was no lasting pain or stinging. I noted that some people thought the price was a little steep. I disagree. For the cleanliness, quality & efficiency of the service, I consider it a great value. And, again, as mentioned by others, they do have a loyalty program. They earned a new loyal customer in me! read more

WOW! I will never go back to waxing my brows. I used to be loyal to the Benefit Brow Bar, but after one threading session with Kimini, I have a new loyalty to Thread Away! From the moment you are in Kimini's presence, you are instantly calm. She transfers serenity to everyone around her. She also is very meticulous about her work and makes sure the customer is happy. Then before you pay and head out the door, she gives you a brow and temple massage! What could be better?! I leave there feeling very serene every time. Steer clear from Farhana!!! She is very rough. While doing my eyebrows in the middle she put some type of gel on my eye. Once she was done she rushed me out of the chair and would barely let me see my eye brows. I went home to take a further look and comes to find out she nicked my skin 6 (SIX!!!!) times (5 on one eye and 1 on the other), and that gel was to stop the bleeding. How does that even happen, what the heck!!! And my eyebrows are mediocore at best. She didn't even acknowledge what she did, and say sorry. But, that isn't surprising because from what others have said that seems to be a thing with her. Now I have to wait for these nicks to scab over and hopefully not leave a bruise. If you are in the area go to Lakeview Thread, way better service, cheaper, and most importantly you wont leave with battle scars. read more

I really, really want to like this place, and honestly, it has a lot of the elements of a five star outfit, but somehow, I was just underwhelmed when I got there. And that's just too bad, because there's very few places that thread eyebrows in the River North area. They're located right next to Sushi Samba and I love their ambiance- it was beautiful, the turmeric/mustard colored walls are really soothing, as is the classical/meditative Indian instrumental tunes playing over the speakers. The lady who threaded my eyebrows was super nice and her massage was fantastic. What I found a little strange: for the prices I'm paying - ($15 for eyebrow threading and $15 for a fifteen minute hot oil neck & shoulder massage) there should have been a little more privacy- not for the threading, obviously, but for the massage. They ask you to change into a loose-tube-style top in a little area curtained off at the back- which is the same place where the massage takes place- and which all the other stylists can walk through as needed. I'm not a prude, and asking me to sit there for my massage is fine, but they have no separate changing room, and that was the awkward part- the lady who did my massage told me that no one would walk through, and no one did, but still, it's a little worrisome :). Also noted- they have only one little shampoo/sink stand in that back area, so things may be a little awkward if you walk in for a massage and try and change there, and there's someone getting a shampoo done as well! The massage itself was wicked though, and for $1 a minute, not bad at all. The threading was a little slower than I'm used to, but since I'd let my eyebrows grow in a lot, that obviously couldn't be helped. I'm very satisfied with my eyebrows though- $15 for the area is ok, (but if you really want, you can get your eyebrows, chin and upper lip done for $10 in Devon!) and I shall definitely be returning for that! read more

One Star = Convenience One Star= Prompt Service Okay located around the corner I decided to leave from Harry's and head on over there while on my lunch break HOWEVER I was confused as to which door to enter because they have a station right in front of the wells street door....There was no wait and thats about all I can say good It cost me 15.00 for this chick to tell me all her marital problems and how her husband drinks what she says is too much and for her to JACK my mf'ing eyebrows up....okay they are pretty thick when I let them grow out but this was two weeks after my last touch up on the brows so it shouldn't have been that much of a job....so WTF did I leave out of there with one arch totally artificially made and my natural arch proud and confident?!
