Oh my gosh this place is AMAZING!!!! The people working were a delight, very easy going, knowledgeable for the menu and welcoming. The food was even better. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this was THE best sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. Don't sleep on this place if you love sandwiches - it takes a hot minute to get the food but that is because they take their time to make it right and serve it hot! This is a very good sandwich place in the area. Sides are so so though. We got saber tooth and Paleolithic sandwiches, macaroni salad and a beer. We have liked their sandwiches everytime. The meat in the Taurus sandwich seemed as though it was pre-seasoned and packaged from a store but the combination of ingredients more than made up for it. I love and hate that I live so close to this place now, it's hard to resist the urge to go there every day! I think it's amazing that they have made some of their sandwiches into salads as well. I ordered the Smokey the pig salad and subbed the pork for jackfruit -this has got to be one of the best salads I've had. I loved the peppery flavor of the bbq sauce and the dill in the ranch dressing I got on the side. My husband's sandwich was also incredible, the meat was so well seasoned and tasted like a blend of beef and sausage. I used to be a fan of Mammoth and I had been eating there prior to the pandemic when they were located in Eastlake. Something seems to have changed since their move to Ballard. Homemade chips? Gone. Now just a bag of chips. Crispy bread? Now super soggy They even changed my favorite sandwich, the Predator. Previously, it was a fried piece of chicken, but this sandwich has a very lackluster and dry piece of smoked chicken. Have walked by this place multiple times, but not been in until this weekend. I love the theme and the names of the sandwiches, but that's where it stops being good and goes downhill. I had the Paleolithic - what a disappointment. I've had similar sandwiches in the past that have been awesome, but this one was a bummer. The tofu was not smoked (as advertised) and if it was, then it needed to be smoked more as it just tasted like rubbery cold bland tofu. The Cucumber was a huge chunk in the middle -not sliced or anything, and there was so much dressing it was super messy and liquidy. However, if it wasn't for the dressing, it would have been so much worse as that was really the only thing giving it any flavor. The fries were cooked well but lacked any type of seasoning, also a bummer. And, to top it off, the person in the beanie that served us was clearly having a terrible day as they were incredibly rude - to the point we nearly turned around. They'd only been open an hour, but whatever had happened leading up to 12pm on Sunday, clearly affected them in a bad way and they for sure did not leave it at the door. Would potentially go back for another try of a different sandwich, but based on this employee's poor attitude, wouldn't want to encounter that again, so I'll give it a miss in the future. read more

My visit to Mammoth (currently operating out of Bitterroot BBQ in Ballard) was a bit of a fiasco. Many of the sandwiches come with pickled red onions. The listing for the Taurus just said "onions." I asked if they were pickled red onions, and the person manning the cash register said he thought so, but he could make sure. I said I did definitely want the pickled red onions. I ordered the sandwich with no cheese and no arugula. It came out without those ingredients, and also without red onions, but it did have pickles on it. I took it back, and a different person explained that the onions are mixed in with the meat, and asked if that would be okay. I said yes. I told him he could just give me some pickled red onions to add, but he took the whole sandwich away and made a new one, which took forever. On top of that, the new one had cheese and arugula, so then I had to wait for a third one, when all I wanted was some onions in a container for the first one. All that aside, the sandwich was just okay. The meat did have good flavor, but you couldn't taste the peppers, onions, aioli, or the pickled red onions that I did get to add to my third sandwich. I was hoping for a hearty, crusty bread, but it was more like a pillowy soft ciabatta, which just blended into the meat and didn't stand out. It was also super greasy. Probably the drippiest sandwich I've ever eaten, and I think the bread was buttered, on top of that. My friend got the Neanderthal (BLT) and he loved it, so maybe Mammoth's sandwiches just aren't my thing. read more

When I get to Bitterroot and realize they only have the Mammoth menu available, I get sad and leave. Today I decided to try it and I am thrilled I did! I had the Stonehenge sandwich and it was delicious. The bread was both soft and crunchy, and did not cut my mouth. (A typical concern I have with sandwiches.) I also got the Paloma cocktail, also delicious. On a Monday at noon, we were the only table, so we sat in the window which was lovely. The lady at the counter was nice and the food was quick. The meats were lean and delicious, the bread (Macrina) was fresh and light, and the dressing--slightly creamy--was one of the best I've ever tasted.
