First customers of the day and he took care of the 5 of us right away . Food was delicious! Each of us got about 4 assorted empanadas and an arepa. I got 1 Pastello, 1 sofrito chicken, 1 beef and potato and 1 guava, plantain, cheese empanada. All AIR FRIED ! not deep fried so you dont feel as guilty eating a batch of em. Checked this out by word of mouth from a woman who was staying in the same hostel as I am. Went over and met Alex, he explained the menu and what was left for the day and how prices work, $3 for 1 or $10 for 4. I got the 4 for $10 and tried 4 different flavors and they were all absolutely amazing. I've gone back every night, missed him a couple times though cause I came after closing. I love these empanadas so much, they were late lunch today and would've been dinner if I had gotten back in time. Tomorrow I'm trying the Cuban for sure (it's my last full day here), and probably a sofrito chicken empanada & an arepa. I came across this truck as I was looking for a snack to eat. I first asked if they gave chimichurri sauce which they didn't, but the sauce I got ended up being tasty. I ordered the beef & potato & chicken empanadas. As soon as I ordered it, he handed it to me right away. I was thinking it would take time to make but he had them already hot & ready to go. When I opened up the foil, my first reaction was disappointment for how small it was for $4 each as they both fit on the small cake-size type paper plate. As I tried them, I felt more forgiving because it was very tasty & not dried. Mami's Empanadas is most deserving of its 5 star rating. Giving anything less would be a disgrace. I forgot I even had this place bookmarked years ago and it was brought up again when my boyfriend remembered that he wanted to try empanadas while we were vacationing in Waikiki. I was a little reluctant because I never had empanadas (yes non cultured me)...I was like what are those? Are they good for lunch? I'm SO glad he convinced me to try them. They remind me of when my mom used to make Chinese fried stuffed dumplings EXCEPT BETTER. Some of the best places are hidden in random places you wouldn't even think of. That's exactly Mami's. This truck is situated in some random street in Waikiki that's not really popular or even has a lot of food traffic. The owner was very informative and helpful. We got some empanadas based on his recommendations. While we waited for him to make and cook them up, he bragged about how he has tourists from like Australia and England coming to Hawaii just to try his empanadas. We were impressed! We got 4 for $10: Sofrito Chicken, Beef & Potato, Guava Plantain Cheese and Pastel (Pork) Stew & Arroz Con Gandules. We were also given 4 types of different sauces that went really well with all of the empanadas. I loved how they were all hot, crispy and fresh! My favorite was the Guava one because it tasted like a dessert. I love sweet things. The Sofrito Chicken and Beef & Potato were good too - very filling. YOU HAVE TO COME HERE TO TRY THEM. Words aren't enough to describe how delicious everything was. I'm glad we shared everything because this was a great snack for after we ate lunch. I'M HOOKED on empanadas. They also have arepas. I love this food truck as it is one restaurant that can tie me to my Colombian roots on this island as of right now. The decor of this food truck makes me so happy and seeing it always gives me such a big smile. The empanadas are okay! The potato and beef ones are always my go to!! with the green and red ají (: I love the fact that you can take them to snack on the beach. He cooks them in an air fryer so they are hot, crispy but not greasy! And they are homemade and fresh! Sauces are also home made. My favorite flavor was the guava and plantains and the chicken one! This foot truck is kind of hidden in an alley and isn't always open. Find them on Instagram to make sure they're open. They also generally only take online or phone orders. Luckily the owner was nice enough to give us out of towners the opportunity to order in person. The Cubano was the best one I've had anywhere. The empanadas were also very good. Pictured below are 2 vegan Potato Empanadas and 2 Softito Chicken Empanadas as well as the Colombian Hot Dog. This extremely talented Chef makes all of his Menu items (and condiments) completely from scratch. Full of robust and interesting flavor combinations this menu changes daily. Loved it! Kinda hard to find a time when they were open, but luckily our hotel was right next to the cart, so when I walked by and they were serving empanadas, I went over and grabbed one. And then when I finished that one I got another one because the first really got my attention. And be sure to have some of the sauce with it, the sauce might be the best part of the experience. The owner/cook is very nice, he explains everything to you and gives you recommendations even on which empanada flavors go best with his homemade sauces! That's another thing that is absolutely amazing! He gives you 4 different sauces to try and they are all so amazing. White sauce is garlic, red is traditional vinegar, green is the spicy and final orange sauce I don't know whats in it, but it is also very good! There is a substantial amount of filling, he always has new menu items to try and he uses and air fryer so its not too oily. Its best to call or text ahead of time so that he can prepare your order and have it ready when you arrive. I'm Dominican-American and love traditional Caribbean Spanish food although this is more a Colombian style the empanadas are great tasting and made fresh while you wait. Only regret is that I should have ordered more than just 4. I had the Colombian and meat empanadas they both tasted great not overseasoned just right and cooked thoroughly so every bite was tasty perfection. I am always looking for different foods to try when travelling. I found this on Yelp and made my way there. There were five other customers waiting for their food when we arrived. There is a small sitting area next to the food truck. I ordered four empanadas ($10) and a Latin soda ($3). The coconut soda tasted like carbonated sweet canned coconut water. The empanadas were the star. They were made fresh to order and were not greasy when I received my food. The chilli cheeseburger was my favourite. The beef and potato was my next favourite. It was beef mixed in with spiced up potato. The colentado tasted like a breakfast empanada with the egg, rice, beans and chorizo. The columbian potato had a spicy potato filling. Overall, it was a nice small meal. Service was friendly. The person making the food chatted with customers and made recommendations on how to try the sauces. read more

After reading fellow Yelpers' reviews, I had to try this food. Unfortunately, I arrived just before 2 p.m. (late lunch) and most of the inventory was already sold out! That should tell you how popular they are! The cute trailer is located off Kapahulu Avenue on Cartwright Road, which is one way towards Kapahulu Avenue. So you have to go around the block, turn right on Lemon Road, right again on Paoakalani, then right again on Cartwright Road. You can park behind the trailer or you can park across the street in the zoo parking. I like to live dangerously - not! I tried the beef and potato empanada, piping hot, little crispy around the edges and moist and flavorful inside. The dough for the crust is yellow and delicious, not just a flour crust. And you get 2 kinds of sauce with your empanada, the red sauce which is mild and the yellow sauce which is hot. I have to go back to try more! Woo hoo! read more
