First customers of the day and he took care of the 5 of us right away . Food was delicious! Each of us got about 4 assorted empanadas and an arepa. I came across this truck as I was looking for a snack to eat. I first asked if they gave chimichurri sauce which they didn't, but the sauce I got ended up being tasty. I ordered the beef & potato & chicken empanadas. As soon as I ordered it, he handed it to me right away. I was thinking it would take time to make but he had them already hot & ready to go. When I opened up the foil, my first reaction was disappointment for how small it was for $4 each as they both fit on the small cake-size type paper plate. As I tried them, I felt more forgiving because it was very tasty & not dried. I was finally able to track down this food truck. It used to be around Ward area now it's across from the zoo parking. Their hours vary so call in advance and you can also order ahead. The couple who runs this truck is very nice. I ordered beef/potatoe and bean. I can't remember their Latin name. Honestly, this was my first time trying empanda so I don't know what it supposed to taste like. It's a big, yellow, fried dumpling that's been air-dried. I could taste many different spices in them. The lady also gave me a mild sauce and a spicy sauce to dip them in. I thought it was pretty good with so many flavor. I like the beef and potatoe flavor better than bean one. Went over and met Alex, he explained the menu and what was left for the day and how prices work, $3 for 1 or $10 for 4. I got the 4 for $10 and tried 4 different flavors and they were all absolutely amazing. I've gone back every night, missed him a couple times though cause I came after closing. I love these empanadas so much, they were late lunch today and would've been dinner if I had gotten back in time. I love this food truck as it is one restaurant that can tie me to my Colombian roots on this island as of right now. The decor of this food truck makes me so happy and seeing it always gives me such a big smile. The empanadas are okay! I forgot I even had this place bookmarked years ago and it was brought up again when my boyfriend remembered that he wanted to try empanadas while we were vacationing in Waikiki. I was a little reluctant because I never had empanadas (yes non cultured me)...I was like what are those? Are they good for lunch? I'm SO glad he convinced me to try them. They remind me of when my mom used to make Chinese fried stuffed dumplings EXCEPT BETTER. Some of the best places are hidden in random places you wouldn't even think of. That's exactly Mami's. This truck is situated in some random street in Waikiki that's not really popular or even has a lot of food traffic. The owner was very informative and helpful. We got some empanadas based on his recommendations. While we waited for him to make and cook them up, he bragged about how he has tourists from like Australia and England coming to Hawaii just to try his empanadas. We were impressed! We got 4 for $10: Sofrito Chicken, Beef & Potato, Guava Plantain Cheese and Pastel (Pork) Stew & Arroz Con Gandules. We were also given 4 types of different sauces that went really well with all of the empanadas. I loved how they were all hot, crispy and fresh! My favorite was the Guava one because it tasted like a dessert. I love sweet things. The Sofrito Chicken and Beef & Potato were good too - very filling. YOU HAVE TO COME HERE TO TRY THEM. Luckily the owner was nice enough to give us out of towners the opportunity to order in person. The Cubano was the best one I've had anywhere. The empanadas were also very good. The owner/cook is very nice, he explains everything to you and gives you recommendations even on which empanada flavors go best with his homemade sauces! That's another thing that is absolutely amazing! He gives you 4 different sauces to try and they are all so amazing. White sauce is garlic, red is traditional vinegar, green is the spicy and final orange sauce I don't know whats in it, but it is also very good! There is a substantial amount of filling, he always has new menu items to try and he uses and air fryer so its not too oily. I'm Dominican-American and love traditional Caribbean Spanish food although this is more a Colombian style the empanadas are great tasting and made fresh while you wait. Only regret is that I should have ordered more than just 4. I am always looking for different foods to try when travelling. I found this on Yelp and made my way there. There were five other customers waiting for their food when we arrived. There is a small sitting area next to the food truck. I ordered four empanadas ($10) and a Latin soda ($3). The coconut soda tasted like carbonated sweet canned coconut water. The empanadas were the star. They were made fresh to order and were not greasy when I received my food. The chilli cheeseburger was my favourite. The beef and potato was my next favourite. It was beef mixed in with spiced up potato. The colentado tasted like a breakfast empanada with the egg, rice, beans and chorizo. The columbian potato had a spicy potato filling.
