Spicy chicken bowl & butter chicken bowl
Ceci L.

This hidden gem is great for an affordable and quick lunch. I've tried a bunch of their bowls and they were all delicious, but my absolute fave is their butter chicken bowl: butter chicken on rice, a scoop of sour cream with a side of naan. Butter chicken bowl is their Monday special and they have a special every day of the work week.

Update 9.0: today, i got to try the veggie rice bowl and the bibimbop. The bibimbop was okay just like suzette delis so i wouldnt recommend the bibimbop. However, the toffu and veggie rice bowl tasted so fresh in your mouth. Not a vegan but i personally love it. It helps brighten my day something i would recommend you guys to get. Nonetheless, this would be my last review for mama's rice bowl. Thank you for those who have joined my journey with mama's rice bowl. I have tried all the bowl, the daily special and all the things that i think its special. Therefore, i hope the feedback helps for those who would like to order here. Cheers! Recommend3d!

Super fresh homemade meals in a nondescript office park. Definitely would go back. Friendly staff as well.

I had heard a lot about Lunch Lady and finally visited today. The first thing that struck me was…read morehow incredibly busy it was--I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a restaurant this packed. It was well capped and clean. They had tables inside outside on a patio and even on the boulevard on the grass they created another space for people to eat. It looks like they need to expand! We didn't have reservations and ended up waiting about an hour, but the food made the wait worthwhile. I ordered the pho special of the day and it was excellent. It was spicy and noticeably different from other pho I've had. The broth had a very rich, deep flavour and something unique about it that I can't quite put my finger on, but I really enjoyed it. I was also impressed that they served fresh culantro, which I had never seen served with pho before. My only small criticism was the amount of bean sprouts provided. There were two of us sharing the accompaniments, but the portion looked more like what I would normally expect for one person. I'm sure they would have brought more if we had asked, though. The servers were very pleasant despite how busy the restaurant was. There was a bit of confusion with the waitlist--they told us they would call us when our table was ready, but after checking back several times, they couldn't find our name and the system showed that we had already been seated when we hadn't. That was frustrating after such a long wait, but I wouldn't let it overshadow the overall experience. The food was excellent, the flavours were memorable, and I can understand why Lunch Lady is Michelin-recommended. I will definitely be back and highly recommend giving it a try--just make a reservation if you can!

Lunch Lady is a popular Vietnamese restaurant with a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. Reservations are…read morerequired here because the place is so busy. The environment is supper casual with some bar seating, some indoor as well as patio seating. I stopped by here with a relative, and he has a tomato allergy. Vietnamese coffee - ($7 CAD = $5 USD) - While the coffee was strong it definitely tasted premade. The other thing I didn't like is that I watched the server prepare our drinks and he filled one glass completely with ice, and the other half filled. So the one filled with ice had a lot less coffee. Softshell crab fritters ($26 CAD = $18.57 USD) - This consisted of lettuce, 3 pieces of fried crab, and a cilantro dipping sauce. Crispy with tender pieces of crab meat, this dish tasted great with the dipping sauce. Steak luc lac - ($36 CAD = $25.71 USD) - This came with 6 oz. of steak prepared medium rare, a side salad, and some rice with a fried egg. I wasn't impressed with the steak at all, it wasn't very good and it was served with some peppercorn sauce, but they were extremely stingy with the sauce. The rice was a little dry. My relative has a tomato allergy and yet they served his salad with the tomatoes. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food here here. They were stingy with the drinks and sauce. They definitely need to pay attention to people's allergies when it's brought to their attention. The items here are over priced as well. I don't get the hype here.

The best deep fried spring roll I've ever had! The vermicelli bowl was really enjoyable too…read more I was there with a large group and the service was super attentive and friendly. Really looking forward to going back again soon and trying more items on their menu.

A great little pho spot in what is really the middle of a food desert - this is coming from someone…read morewho has been working / running daily errands in and out of the neighbourhood for just about 10 years and counting. At work, my coworkers occasionally pre-ordered their lunch at said 'the pho place' down the road, and I would ALWAYS know what they're having because the phos were so aromatic throughout the entire open office - very drool worthy. And by all means, my coworkers raved about their satay pho (next on my to-try list). I drove past a sandwich board heading home one day and it advertised something along the lines of happy hour pho - yes please! As a quick bit, this will suffice. With the happy hour menu, I had the OPTION to pick one of their 3 signature phos. For a first timer, the classic pho will really put the restaurant to the test! My classic pho was served in a prompt manner, served with the classic sprouts and sides, it was piping hot, and I really liked that the noodles were not overcooked and still retained a bit of bounce to it. All in all, it was a solid bowl of pho - served with a nice selection of classic meats: meatballs, sliced beef, tendon, a few pieces of tripe etc. The service was great a well, the lady manning the store was very speedy with service, friendly, and attentive. The only awkward thing is the location, it's a tad difficult to maneuver into their parking lot and the space are a wee tight, but that shouldn't ward anyone away. Cute little gem in hood!

Been awhile since I came here. First two things we ordered was their daikon cakes and coconut rice…read morecakes because we remembered how good it was when we came here 2 years ago. And I'm happy to say they were as good as I remembered it to be!! The coconut rice cakes are soooo crispy on the outside but literally melt in your mouth. We also tried their crispy fish fillet, no idea what the "fish fillet" were made of, but whatever it was I LOVED IT! It felt like the same texture as actual crispy fish fillets. It was flavoured so well and came with a side of rice and salad. For drinks, we tried their lemon leaf Collins which had gin. It had a strong flavour of lemon leaf but it was very well balanced with the gin. It was also sweet which balanced the citrus flavour pretty nicely. Their space is pretty cozy, I don't think they can accommodate large groups but a great place for date night. They don't take reservations so we just walked in at 7pm on a Saturday and got a spot but it did get crowded around 8pm so might be better to call before going during rush hours. I'll definitely be back again!

As the weather gets warmer, I am craving something fresh and refreshing. After browsing the menu, I…read morewas convinced the mango salad was exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, the menu doesn't have side dishes, so I ended up ordering the lemongrass vermicelli along with a guava juice instead. The guava juice was a bit of a surprise--not quite the freshly made tropical drink I had imagined. It turned out to be the same bottled guava juice you can easily find at the grocery store, just served in a glass and at restaurant prices. Then my lemongrass vermicelli arrived, and the server warned me to be careful because it was very hot. That definitely caught me off guard! When I think of vermicelli bowls, I picture cool noodles, crisp vegetables, fragrant herbs, and a refreshing meal perfect for a sunny day. This version was served piping hot, making it feel more comforting than refreshing. That said, the dish was still packed with flavour. The fragrant lemongrass aroma filled the bowl, the vegetables added plenty of texture, and the savoury components came together nicely. It just wasn't the light, cooling meal I had originally set my heart on when I walked in, dreaming about mango salad on a warm day.
