A great little pho spot in what is really the middle of a food desert - this is coming from someone who has been working / running daily errands in and out of the neighbourhood for just about 10 years and counting. At work, my coworkers occasionally pre-ordered their lunch at said 'the pho place' down the road, and I would ALWAYS know what they're having because the phos were so aromatic throughout the entire open office - very drool worthy. And by all means, my coworkers raved about their satay pho (next on my to-try list). I drove past a sandwich board heading home one day and it advertised something along the lines of happy hour pho - yes please! As a quick bit, this will suffice. With the happy hour menu, I had the OPTION to pick one of their 3 signature phos. For a first timer, the classic pho will really put the restaurant to the test! My classic pho was served in a prompt manner, served with the classic sprouts and sides, it was piping hot, and I really liked that the noodles were not overcooked and still retained a bit of bounce to it. All in all, it was a solid bowl of pho - served with a nice selection of classic meats: meatballs, sliced beef, tendon, a few pieces of tripe etc. The service was great a well, the lady manning the store was very speedy with service, friendly, and attentive. The only awkward thing is the location, it's a tad difficult to maneuver into their parking lot and the space are a wee tight, but that shouldn't ward anyone away. Cute little gem in hood! read more

Excellent! One of my most favorite places to visit when I'm back in Vancouver. The platter is awesome and has a little bit of everything. It has spring rolls, fresh rolls, baos, and yucca fries with spicy mayo. I usually opt to share this with my friend and then we'll get a curry or pho that the very lovely staff / kitchen will split into 2 bowls. Angels. We came here at lunch for the Pho Challenge. We called in to make a reservation to make sure they could take us for the challenge. Before you begin the challenge, they make you sign a waiver. You have 30 minutes to eat all the noodles and meat (balls, brisket and rare beef), but didn't need to drink the soup. If you don't finish the challenge, they charge you the equivalent of around 3 bowls of pho. We speculated on how to prepare (ie pull out the noodles before the soup soaks in, etc) but we weren't successful. The broth was tasty, so it was a pleasure to eat. The "Dundas Platter" is great to share for 2 people. It is really worth it to sample a little bit of everything; especially if you don't know what to order. read more

Spacious comfortable restaurant with lots of parking and decent eats. We started with the Dundas platter. The spring rolls were delicious but there were only two small pieces. The salad roll was standard. The chicken and beef skewers alright--not particularly flavourful. The cassava fries were interesting but could have been better seasoned/salted and cut into thinner fries. The bun bun hue was yummy with a good ratio of meat to noodles, but the broth was oily. For dessert, the deep fried bananas were golden and crispy on the outside and sweet and soft on the inside. However, there was not enough ice cream for the bananas, and the drizzle of strawberry sauce was a bit out of place. read more

Pho meets craft beer here. Parking is available on the side streets, as well as the tiny lot in front. Staff were friendly. The interior really looks like that of a Western-themed bar restaurant. Wooden tables and trim. Modern but plain. Craft beer selection isn't bad. They had some 20 brews on tap. Of course, one must remember that there are 20 craft breweries in the direct vicinity. Pho tasted decent. My only real complaint was that there wasn't much volume. It was mostly soup, even with all the toppings poured in. See photo. I kinda left hungry. Lastly, there's a pho challenge here. Eat a few pounds of beef noodle soup in a set amount of time and it's free. Didn't see a Wall Of Fame anywhere. Maybe nobody has successfully done this and lived to talk about it. Not sure what to think of this place to be honest. There are both better pho places and breweries a few blocks away. Still on the hunt for the best peanut satay so I was thrilled for the new discovery at Dundas! A hole in the wall, Dundas offers tons of vegan options (THANK YOU!) and everything in between (so everyone is happy)! We got takeout and it was ready incredibly fast! We got the peanut satay and the broth was bright RED! I was worried it would be too spicy but it was really good. The portions are huge and it was easily split between 2. Tons of veg and the fluffiest tofu! Very delicious and extremely filling. We also split the salad rolls and the spring rolls. The salad rolls are gigantic and stuffed full of tofu and fresh ingredients. The spring rolls were good but unfortunately, my stomach didn't react well (same for my friend). We also ordered the pad thai and it is arguably one of the best pad thai thus far! Super affordable and very large portions! I really appreciate the options and delicious food! read more

I liked the ambiance of the place bit I noticed it was a bit quite for a restaurant. People don't make noice. It's like modern bit cozy :) LOVED this little table at the corner and their lamps. Late to join the party but better late than never! I went with my "foodie date" Juicealyn. We both live 5 min. away & are so happy, we have found "our new spot!" (Juicealyn proclaimed). I remember when this was a fish n chips joint. I love that they pay homage to that & have it on the menu. It's so unassuming from the outside, in a mini plaza next to Subway, Domino's, & a convenience store. It's modern, cozy, has an East Van mural, nice lighting, good music over speakers, not too loud. It's got a nice ambience that you could have dinner or go in for some drinks & appies. The menu served us both well, I like spicy soups, deep fried rolls and craft beer. Check check check! Juicealyn loves soup & Vietnamese coffee, check & check! We shared the Vancity special which is a deep-fried roll and a salad roll together. So good, & unique! We each ordered a specialty noodle soup. I had the Sate Chicken - mild spice. It was a nice, red, aromatic broth of peanut sauce & coconut. Yum! I would add more spice/ heat next time. I want to try their wonton chips nachos next time! Also they have a separate vegan menu! Hooray! Dundas Eat + Drink is open again! I was afraid they closed down for good but we noticed last week that their website was accepting orders again. I ordered the Vegan Bao sliders and the Tofu Salad roll and both were delicious. The carrots were cut thick for the sliders but they were pickled to perfection and the bao buns were fluffy and warm. The salad rolls are some of my favourite in the city, ideal ratio of noodles and veggies and protein. I've tried the prawn ones as well but I really like the tofu ones because they provide a really nice texture to each bite. Can't wait to order some pho this autumn. Welcome back! read more

Not to shabby at all. I actually wanted to come here and try the bun bo hue challenge then got side tracked and ended getting a few things. Here are the selections my sister and I have chosen. Garlic wings with butter - actually pretty fucking good. Deep fried garlic, with the right about of crispiness Pho dac biet - 10 I'm pretty sure I saw a sticker that said no msg outside but don't quote me Bun bo hue - my sister gives it a 10 Vancouver special roll: ok the idea of combining salad roll and spring roll together was not a bad idea. Personally I'd probably dip it in fish sauce then peanut sauce but that's just me. More so cause it has the awesome spring roll inside. Warning: do eat the roll fast when fresh the rice roll got hard around the spring roll and it was harder to chew, none the less pretty good!! Ok my least fav was bao bun, not that it's not good it's just not my jam. In my head I was thinking of like the new town bakery pork bun but forgot the restaurant had more of a modern twist to it it's good but for myself prob not what I would crave. We totally forgot to order the cheese cake that was recommended by the server but next time we will order dessert! I'm glad there's a place with those huge bowl of pho challenges cause I'm so fascinated with how much I could really eat. Definitely going to come back and try. For the better part of my childhood, I grew up in East Van... specifically, in the area close to the PNE. Back in the day, it was hardly the place known for being able to find restaurants of any kind. However, over the last few years, a new bunch of eateries have popped up around the northeast corner of Vancouver. One such place that I noticed in my social media feed recently was Dundas Eat and Drink. Located in a tiny mini mall that I remember frequenting when I was in elementary school, Dundas Eat and Drink is a bit hidden from view and isn't immediately noticeable from the street. Based on their menu that I glanced before showing up, I knew to expect an eclectic array of asian and western fusion dishes. Not knowing which dishes were best here, we decided to try a bunch of items... first up was the Mango Smoothie ($5.95) and Lime Soda ($3.95). It seemed like they had trouble figuring out how to make my lime soda because you could see them behind the bar struggling trying to get the right balance of ice, soda, and syrup, tasting it (hope they used a new spoon each time), then readjusting and tasting again, over and over... We ordered up the Garlic Butter Wings ($12) but, unfortunately, they wound up giving us Honey Garlic Wings instead. When we mentioned this to the server, she acknowledged that she put in the wrong order and they took this off our bill. When our actual order of garlic butter wings arrived, we looked at them long and hard because they looked very similar to the honey garlic wings. Tentatively taking a bite, we confirmed that they were in fact different (the honey garlic wings being a bit too sweet for our liking) but lacked any real flavour. We also thought the breading that they used with their wings was a bit distracting and just didn't do anything for the wings themselves. The item that we were looking forward to was their Dundas Platter ($16.75) which comes with a good selection of appies to share: spring roll, salad roll, chicken satay skewer, beef skewer, and cassava fries with a vinaigrette sauce, a peanut sauce, and a house spicy mayo sauce. The best of the bunch was definitely the crispy spring roll while the salad roll seemed to be wrapped too loosely making it difficult to eat as it fell apart easily. The sauces were a bit on the weak side. Probably the best dish that we had here was the Pad Thai with Prawns ($14.75) which had a nice amount of caramelization to the rice noodles. We like Dundas .its a spot where we use to come regularly before Covid but now takeout only available . Menu that caters to all appetites and diets .I love the vegan vancity rolls . Big enough for a meal in itself. The pad thai use to be my favorite until they took away my tofu and now have to pay extra for. The bun bonhue . We came here for UfC last night and wow we were soooo impressed. Food was amazing, Viet with a bit of a twist. They also had a big Vegan menu which was amazing. We had rhe nachos unfortunately they did not have crab so we got pulled pork and cheese instead. They were not your usual nachos but they were individually packed with toppings. My papaya salad was great!! Loved the flavouring. Chicken wings were yummy as well. The best thing about this place is the prices are very average!!! you will not break your bank :) This is the new hot spot in East Van!! Cant wait to come back. James is great and his staff are amazing!! Someone in our group tried the 604pho Challenge but did not complete it, 5 lbs of noodles/meat if you dont finish it in 30 mins its $35. Not bad actually!!. Had to try this place because they have pho, burgers, fish and chips, Thai food, vegan....everything under one roof! I had the lemongrass chicken pho and it was hot and delicious! My sister was very pleased with the varied vegan menu and she enjoyed her vegan pho. It had crispy fried onions as topping. Nice touch. My nephew had his usual beefball pho and enjoyed it. It doesn't taste like they use MSG and I didn't get that eye strain and heavy thirst when I eat MSG. BONUS! The broth is very flavorful and they give you lots of sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño slices and lime wedges. The menu looks so delicious and I definitely want to try everything. Price is very reasonable. Oh, and they have nachos! I don't drink but I saw they have Bridge beer on tap and other craft beers. They have several large screens showing sports. Very fast and friendly service. Food came quite quickly. Plenty of side street parking and a small lot in the front. Check google street view or you may miss this gem. Started with deep fried wontons, found them thoroughly unappetizing, hard, and oily. Grilled chicken salad rolls were pretty good, I liked that the chicken was warm and the noodles/cucumber etc were cold. Peanut sauce lacks flavour. Lemongrass chicken pho was super disappointing !! Even though the menu boasts the broths are simmered for 16 hours, I found the chicken broth flavour to be quite lacking, couldn't tell if it was sweet/salty from some sort of flavouring or even MSG? The chicken was just plain grilled, I'm not sure if I really could taste any lemongrass present. I also found the noodles to have a particular taste that I didn't like either. Ordered some takeout one evening and my order was ready in under 15 mins. They have a separate vegan menu with a lot of different options. I went for some tofu salad rolls and a sate pho. Total bill came to just over $21. The salad rolls are very filling, nicely put together, with a lot of deep fired tofu attached to the outside (as pictured) -- the peanut sauce is solid, but I've had better. The sate pho was pretty good too -- big portion of noodles, nice amount of veggies (with broccoli, bok choy, carrot), some tofu, and a big portion of broth. The broth is solid, nicely seasoned, only gently spicy. You get the usual side of basil, bean sprouts, lime, and japalepno, as with many Vietnamese places. I was stuffed after this. Recently moved into the area and my roommate said this place was an absolute must try! Don't be fooled by the restaurant's name, because they serve Vietnamese food and alcoholic beverages! But get this! They also have a vegan menu!!! Went here with a couple of friends the other day, one who was from Seattle and is also vegetarian. I had originally planned to go to Chomp but it was closed so ended up coming here instead and was surprised by how amazing the food was. My friend from Seattle and I ordered the Vegan Pad Thai and it packed a LOT of flavour. My other friend had Pho I believe and our bill came to about $40 for the three of us without drinks. Wait time was a wee bit long since we were all pretty hungry and on a time constraint but it was well worth the wait. They seem to have a pretty large menu for food and a pretty decently sized drink menu as well that I would love to check out more in depth in the future since I just live a few blocks away! Service was pretty good and restaurant itself was very cute and clean. Portion sizing was generous as well I ended up taking the rest of my Pad Thai to go. Vegan pad thai was very good, and the vegan appetiser platter was decent as well. The platter has an assortment of spring rolls, fresh rolls, baos and cassava fries. The spring rolls were the rice paper kind, which I'm not usually a fan of but these were pretty good. The cassava fries were unique in flavour although a tad dry. The baos were sadly very disappointing as there wasn't much filling and the bao bun was hard and dry. The fresh rolls were as expected (decent but nothing special). Would recommend the pad thai and maybe the spring rolls or cassava fries as an appetiser. Love that they have lots of vegan options and portions are reasonable for the price. read more

I came across this restaurant on my Instagram feed. I hear many people have tried their pho challenge. The restaurant is located inside a plaza and has a vietnamese/ western food with vegan options as well. The interior is quite comfy and nice, but with a pretty loud atmosphere. I ordered a noodle soup that consisted of lemongrass chicken with a coconut soup. The soup was bland and had no flavour. The portion was a good size and the chicken was pretty good. We also ordered deep-fried pickles to try and there was a lot more batter than pickle. Service was not bad. Overall, it was not a terrible experience I may try something else on the menu next time. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this find. A friend and I had originally planned to eat elsewhere only to find it was closed. We quickly navigated through Yelp to find another place with good reviews nearby. We found this restaurant. I'm already looking forward to returning. We ordered the wonton nachos; yes, that's right, it's nachos but made from wonton chips. The red onion, fresh crab and cheese topping made this dish delicious. We also split the rate beef soup, like pho. It was also very tasty. I had the house wine for $5; however, the merlot was a bit too sweet (fruit- forward) for me. They also had good local beer on tap for a decent price. I was happy to find this unassuming spot tucked in a mini conglomerate of shops. I look forward to returning. Alright, since COVID-19 began, Dundas kept their dine-in option shut down. They've got an amazing take-out window system and easy ordering through the phone. This place has an underrated vegan menu amongst all of the vegan-friendly spots in Vancouver, and the rest of the menu is wonderful too. We had thought to wait for the rest when the avocado fries came (thinking it wouldn't be long for the rest of our order), but they started getting cold while we sat there waiting. After waiting 40 minutes for the food to come, waiting another 25 minutes for all of it to arrive was quite annoying. Food tasted good, but the slow service and spaced out food was painful. Looking for quick place to have lunch on our way back to Seattle, we randomly dropped into this restaurant. What a good find! Tasty and unique twist on their pho - made with curry and coconut broth. The night I came here it smelled like there was a gas leak and honestly I was going to leave but no one seemed to care so I sucked it up and it eventually went away. Their prices are a bit higher but hey if it tastes good, it's ok. Things we ordered: - Pho State (4/5): Rich and creamy. Good amount of spice. The bowl looks huge and I obviously couldn't finish since I was busy eating the other items. I had one slurp and few spoonfuls of the soup and packed this for tomorrow's lunch. Little did I know, I only got the soup. What happened to all my noodles AND beef??? Lunch the next day was not satisfying. - Banh Mi (3.5/5): This was reasonably priced (5.50) but as you get them in a restaurant it's usually the smaller sized banh mi's. I'm usually ok with spicy but I think they were a bit heavy handed with jalapeno's. The pickled daikon was goood. - Chicken wings (3.5/5): We got it in butter & garlic sauce. It was good. Nice and crispy. A bit on the pricier side as it costs you $12, more than your pho. Overall, the food was good. But due to the fact that I only got soup when I paid for a full bowl of noodle soup, I took off some stars in return. read more
