Halloween special: Deadly Ube Sundae
Em G.

Finally got to try Crema Ice Cream that just opened this summer at their North Burnaby location. Right now its October and they have their October flavours and Halloween specials going on right now. We arrived just a little after 2 PM with zero line up. We were greeted and was offered to try samples. We got to taste test the Peaches and Corn, Viet Rocky Road as well as the Cafe con Leche. With about 20 different flavours you can't go wrong. We ended up with a Peaches and Corn Milk Shake and the super cute Halloween Special: Deadly Ube Sundae. They put a lot of care into their creations. Including the candy eyeball and even putting the faces on the ghosts around the cup. I do love the black sesame cream on top as well as the dark chocolate sauce around the cup. Ube ice cream was delightful, too bad its not on their menu year round. But if you are interested in their seasonal flavours check out their Instagram. They have unique and fantastic flavours you'd never heard or dreamed of. We love supporting small and local businesses, so if you're in the area go Crema Ice Cream a try! It gets crazy busy in the summer and in the evenings. Due to the small space there is not much of a hang around and chat inside. But on a nice day go to the park down the block and chill there.

They balance the flavor and textures of icecream very well! I went for a special event where they had a limited edition banana pudding sundae that had a very well balanced texture, sweetness, and flavor. The staff were kind and friendly towards questions and helping with selections.

We came at around 1pm on a Saturday. There was no one inside when we got there but lots of people when we left. There's no where to sit inside and only one bench across the way We got the Ube and the Mango Passionfruit. Only get the mango passionfruit sorbet if you really like sour ice cream. It is EXTREMELY refreshing and sour but after a while it gets too sweet so be warned The Ube was delicious. Creamy and fragrant. It had bits of Milo crunch in it which was a nice addition. It wasn't too sweet which was nice. Would get this again

Cute ice cream shop that just opened in Burnaby Heights. They serve Latino & Asian inspired flavours. The shop is small so there is a bit of a lineup but they try to minimize wait times by limiting samples to 2 flavours. Service is friendly and each staff member will help 1 group at a time. At first I liked the pisco sour, which is a lime sorbet infused with Peruvian pisco and contains 1.4% alcohol. I got a cone of this and it became too sour. Every month they feature different unique flavours. We tried their July flavour: guava cheesecake, and their August flavour: mango milk. Both were amazing.

I'm incredibly happy to see Crema with a storefront now! They have so many unique flavours, inspired by the owners' Asian and Latin heritage, and you really get to admire the range they've come up with inside their brick and mortar shop. However, there's a 2 sample limit (likely to keep things moving as there's limited space inside). On my first visit, I got the guava cheesecake, which was a July feature. I went back to try the strawberry matcha fog after seeing how popular it was on social media. While I enjoyed both, I personally liked guava cheesecake more because of the tanginess and the mix-in of Maria cookie crumbs (I love mix-ins because they provide different textures!). The strawberry matcha fog is also yummy, but I thought the tea flavours overshadowed the strawberry a little bit. Crema is always coming up with new flavours, and I can't wait to see what's next!

This spot just recently opened up. It's such a cute spot, with some delicious sounding flavours. I got the brown butter cookie dough which was absolutely delicious! The service was great. I got to try to flavours before picking they one I wanted. Can't wait to go back and try more flavours!

The soft opening for Cream Ice Cream in the Heights was such a long wait! I ended up visiting a few days later on a weekday and was lucky that there was no wait. Tried out the guava cheesecake and it was sooo tasty! The guava added sweetness but it was mellowed out by the tangy cheesecake! Can't wait to visit again this summer and try out a scoop of the matcha strawberry fog or coco pandan!

I'm glad to have finally gotten around to giving this ice cream shop a visit. I liked the unique Mexican and Asian inspired ice cream flavours. The ice cream, itself, was delicious and creamy. Staff allowed customers to try a number of samples and there did not seem to be any sample limits. Consequently, the line up was long because of the time it took for people to sample and to decide on which flavours to buy. The ambiance is cute with standing table for dine in customers to enjoy their ice cream or a bench outside the shop for seating. Overall, this is a nice addition to the area.

This is maybe my 5th or 6th time coming to Mogu, and it truly never disappoints! The quality and…read moreconsistency of their fried chicken is top notch, and I find myself craving it often. My friend and I started off by sharing the spicy garlic fries with tartar sauce. I love the way these fries are thinly cut, with the right amount of crisp and lightness to them. It wasn't saturated with oil, and the tartar sauce was perfect. I'd recommend the smaller size to share with 2 people - plus we had leftovers! I had the 3 piece chicken Teishoku - which comes with miso soup, rice, a side (today was seaweed salad), and choice of salad (I chose the Mogu salad). I was disappointed that now each additional chicken sauce cost $0.75 extra, as it used to be unlimited. Understandable though! I got the Japanese mayo, and my friend got the spicy gochujang sesame. We shared and mixed these sauces to dip the chicken. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, and tender and moist on the inside. It is a must to order here. I liked the miso soup, but found it slightly too salty. The Mogu salad was hearty! Lots of kale and tasty dressing. I ended up having leftovers for my lunch tomorrow - I'm very excited! Staff are so kind and attentive, and the ambiance was warm. Everytime I come here, they play pop music covers - which I really like! Can't wait to keep coming back to satisfy my cravings... yum.

No wait as there's plenty of seating inside along with three small tables on their sidewalk patio. Service was excellent; your typical sweet, friendly Japanese service. The menu consists of salads & first bites, Mogu fried chicken, katsu, Japanese curry and noodles & rice. The drink menu is extensive. Trip #1 - Japanese curry chicken katsu ($22.00) - salad was healthy. Chicken katsu had a good breading and bite to it. Curry sauce was homey and well balanced. - Garlic beef & scallions stir fry udon ($15.00) - udon had a satisfying chewy bite, excellent flavours. Well executed dish. Trip #2 - Spicy garlic fries ($6.50 large) - fries could be crispier. Decent. - Mogu fried chicken ($23.00 regular) - opted for the chicken only option with spicy gochujang sesame sauce. Our order had 11 pieces. They nail their fried chicken; not greasy, good crunch and equally tender & moist. Wish they weren't so cheap on the sauce but at least the waitress brought us another jar when we asked. - Spicy pork stir fry udon ($15.00) - delicious, well balanced flavours. Udon had a great bite. - Japanese curry braised beef ($23.00) - beef pieces were tender. Looking forward to coming back to MFC.
