Mama's pizza on saddle creek is one of the best pizza places in town. They always have fresh ingredients and the thin crust makes this pizza one of my top 3 pizza places in Omaha! Hmm.... was a bit leery to stop in after reading the reviews about small kids running around the place... and sure enough, lots of small kids causing a ruckus. Thankfully we found a table away from the arcade. We had the BBQ chicken pizza and we just had to try the onion rings. I'm a bit of an onion ring connoisseur and the onion rings were nicely cooked. Although, I could give this place 5 stars simply on the house ranch alone. Unlike anything I've ever had and the ranch made for a nice dipping sauce for the pizza crusts. Was able to see some of the other patron's pizza's and they all looked piping hot and delicious. What seperates this place apart from other pizza joints is the dough. It wasn't oily or greasy and it was simply there to hold the amazing toppings together. I thoroughly enjoyed our pizza and our experience there and will be back for sure. We love stopping in here on our trips to Omaha. The food is pretty good and service is ok. This visit however we walked in and were the only customers in the building and there is a pretty ripe smell going on - not sure if maybe the carpets had just been cleaned or what's going on but hopefully will be addressed and fixed soon because it's not an appetizing smell at all. read more

It's put me in many a food coma, but the Mama's Special is indeed special (one of those meat below the cheese pizza deals). Other favorites include the margherita and BBQ chicken pizzas. The sides are hit and miss. Bland garlic bread, wimpy iceberg-heavy house salads but STELLAR onion rings - perhaps the best in town. Another thing that makes Mama's memorable is its neighborhood-centric atmosphere. I've decided. This is my favorite pizza in town. I'm not saying it's the best pizza I've ever had but for the consistency, the chill family friendly atmosphere, and the price, I can't find any other place that beats Mama's Midtown. The pizza always comes piping hot (I mean it), they have a decent beer selection, and I like their creamy garlic Parmesan house salad dressing. As it's self serve - you order at the bar, pick up your own apps and pie, fetch your own plates and silverware - some people might be turned off for the lack of service. It's just the norm for us now and we've got our routine down: hubby snags a table while I order and grab drinks then switch while he goes to get plates and I send the kids to the game room. The pizza is usually up quickly, we eat, and we're on our way home with nary a worry. I guess if you're not a mom, you might not appreciate it but going out to eat with little ones can be a hassle. I know people who love, love, LOVE Mama's Pizza. I definitely don't hate it. If you like loads of meat toppings on your pizza, this place is a must for you. They do a nice job with the pizzas (crust is thin enough and not soggy). The pizzas are layered so it's crust, sauce, toppings then cheese...the cheese holds all of the goods inside, which works well since they can be pretty generous with toppings. It's the kind of place you go with a large group (or the entire fam) and the kids get to run around while you hang with the other adults, drinking a beer while waiting for your food to cook up. It's order at the counter and pick up at the counter, adding to the uber-casual feel of the place. Even though I'm not a fan of the children running amuck or the vast loads of meat on my pizza, I'm giving Mama's four stars for the onion rings with the garlic "house" dipping sauce. Ridiculous. Yes. Gosh I want to give this place 4 stars so bad....but the service makes me rate it a 2 star. We went here and ordered take out, a pizza-- nothing fancy just a meatlovers. Then we waited, and waited, and waited....asked the window if they called our name. Nope not yet (it had been 30 min)....then about 30-40 minutes later we went up to the pick up window again...and yes, apparently it had been ready for 25+ min now. It was cold :( We were sitting only 2 tables away from the pick up window. They said they called our name? Goodness, if someone just approached you about the pizza not 10min before it was ready, why would you think we'd just let our food sit there for 25 min? When we were waiting in the resturant...it wasn't a call in order, and was already paid for. Sigh....sadly that was my first experience. Another time we tried and it was a better experience, mainly because we went up to the carry out window almost every 5 minutes to make sure we actually had our pizza to us when it was done cooking/ready to be picked up. Get a better system to announce pizza pick up please!! One shout at the window (which really they supposedly just say your name loudly and only once) isn't sufficent. :/ On the food now: I had the garlic chicken Alfredo pizza, and we got a to-go family salad. The family salad is great! It has ham, cheese, and veggies-- way more than I was expecting for a to go generic salad. The pizza was great, the rest of their selections look delishious as well-- I will be back to try their BBQ chicken pizza ....hovering around the pick up window like a maniac so I actually get my food and don't wait for over a hour. read more

I'd given it a 5 star but the menu is pricey now. Fantastic DEEP pizza! Love how they use slabs of cheese instead of shredded. Hamburger and toppings are so thick I usually ask for extra pizza sauce on the pizza. Or it can seem a bit dryer than accustomed to with other pizza places. But hey! It awesome with or without the extra sauce! And I'm not complaining about the large amounts of hamburger either, lol. You do pay the price for it though. Used to eat here once a month easy. Now once a year maybe. They priced me off their menu sadly. I'm a working man and can't afford the luxury as much, lol. $25 to $30 for a large pizza last time. Excellent homemade style pizza. I always order the large combo. The pizza is thick crust piled high with toppings. Leftovers are just as good as the first time. Great, if not Omaha's best. We called in and ordered some pizza, and got it about 20 minutes later with no problem. Service was friendly and they asked if we required additional condiments so it's good to know that they cared for our happiness. I did enjoy eating the hamburger pizza that we ordered. I was always the kid who markered out Genesis, or however you spell that lame-assed bollock ridden band of p[{{}^^*s. So I found a new use for torturing a room full of Midwestern Husker-Sweatered couch potatoes... Bitches Brew. For the uninitiated, Miles Davis' Bitches Brew is the closest thing you can... Sorry, Miles Davis is a Be-Bop era trumpeter, who helped change the way jazz music was played, nay, changed music in general. Bitches Brew, my beeotches, is the album that physically embodies that change. BWEEEE-OOP, BAGH -BAUH --BAUGH. Really how do you spell chaos in music? OK, here. I'll ascribe it to food. (true story) Say you have a bowl of ravioli, right? You take some of that ravioli, put it on a plate and it begins to turn into snakes. Those writhing, pillow shaped snake-pasta-raviolis flout colors of purple-green red, silver and diamond-yellow. Not-knowing what to do, you take these hued serpents out from the kitchen and blithely set them down in front of your parents. You then leave and watch through the window as your parents begin to eat these pockets writhing, oily sheen. And as they bite into them, the fluid inside, milky and pasty like android blood begins to eat the flesh of your parents' mouths, leaking out over their former cheeks as they chew. This action continues until the pasta skin is gone and only the fluid mixture of milk and your parents' body remains, and yet the feast continues. Your folks slop and slurp recycling, for hours, the zesty mixture. After a long, long time your folks get up. You, fearfully go out to meet them, these melted former humans, and the being that once was your Poppy, gurgles out something like "BWEEEE-OOP, BAGH -BAUH --BAUGhhh" Which perhaps could be, Tasted good, son. a little weird...too much oregano... This is probably the best way for me to describe Bitches Brew...a never-ending meal of sulfuric acid snake-ravioli. SO imagine my delight to find this record on the digital jukebox. and the fact that there were two tracks meant that my two dollars a track lasted close to an hour. The pizza I would describe as being pretty good. But after having a couple of teeth knocked wobbly by a couple of those Husker-Dads not at all pleased by Miles' fancy feast, the taste of pepperoni and blood does not mix well. But from what I remember, I had the combo. The crust was crunchy on the outside, yet fluffy and spongy on the inside. This crust, though not enough to be an ends to itsself, was perfect as a holder for the main pie and as a nice after bite, when the palate was gone. The ingredients of the combo seemed like, you know. like f!@#ing pizza! One of the reviewers of the joint said that there was lots of cheese, "drowning in cheese", i think was the phrase. But no, this is not the case. Enough cheese, yes. Drowning, no. *note* to 'cheese drowner'...I (censored) Knoooow it was a compliment. ' ' ' ' In the all and all I thought Mama's was my kind of joint. the kids can be a bit much, but there are ways to, with the jukebox, change the environment to suit your own needs. You just may make some friends there. Most of the time when boys get in a fight, they make fast buddies and this was no different. Let me reassure you though, Those Husker boys won't be picking any fights for a long time. I have to admit, after living in Chicago, and having pizza from everywhere from NY to Italy, Neoplolitan to St. Louis, I have to say that pizza in Omaha sucks. Mama's had been a family staple since I was a small child. Since I was a small child I have disliked this restaurant. It surprises me that there additional locations being built. The food is bland. The pizza is often soggy and the sauce has a sweet flavor. I have tried multiple things on the menu and have yet to find an item that I'm satisfied that I paid for. Probably a 4.4 out of 5. It's a decent sized place with a small parking lot (tho could have been some parking in back). It's very confusing when u wall in as there are tables but no one greeting u and no menus on the table. Took a second to realize that u order at the bar (to the left). We grabbed some menus on the bar as the board was hard to see. My wife and I decided on half cheese (her choice, boring!) and I went with some hamburgersh half. That seems to be a big Omaha thing, which I'm really starting to like! We also got a pitcher of Boulevard Wheat. Wasn't a big fan of the beer choices. 2 wheats, a lager, Miller, Bud. Wish one of those wheats was an IPA or something different. Our total $30, plus tip. Pretty good in my opinion. Not sure of the break down tho, but pitcher had to be less than 12. As for the pizza, the guy served it and it looked great. Unfortunately we didn't have plates, napkins, cheese, peppers or anything on our tables. Surprisingly they guy didn't mention that everything was on a separate table. Would have been nice for him to say that when he put the pizza down. Anyways, the pizza was great. Lots of toppings and sauce. I really liked it. I will say it wasn't very big as we got a large and only left with like 3 slices (squares). Either way, great pizza and I will definitely go again. Lastly, there was plenty of tvs but I didn't see one on the NBA playoffs which I thought was odd as there was like 5 in my section on the same hockey game (game 5, so not a big deal as score was 3-1). There are many great pizza places in omaha. It just depends what you are looking for. This is a different category of pizza than say Zio's or Pizza Shoppe. There is nothing funky about this place. No crazy pizza toppings, just good greasy pizza. As far as restaurant atmosphere, there is none. Just a room filled with banquet tables and a couple of TV's on the wall. An Omaha tradition, with the best onion rings in the metropolitan area! I love their Veggie Pizza, hold the mushrooms please. Also, I recommend that you tell them to bake it "well done". Mama's has a great selection of beers, in bottles and on tap. The place has a warm atmosphere. This really is the best pizza in the entire metropolitan area. It is man food. Order a large Mama's combo, eat as much as you can with a Boulevard ale, then take the rest of the pizza home for breakfast the next day. My wife likes the Western salad with the homemade cream-of-garlic dressing. There are a lot of critters crawling around on the carpet, so order a pitcher of beer and ask the manager to turn up the volume on the football game. It's been a long time since I had been to Mama's, which is odd as it was such a regular place for me for so long. Stopped in on a frigid Friday night and the place was packed of course with large groups of people. I was solo on this night and found one of the few small tables they have (this place is made for large groups). Went to the bar to order a small pizza and realized that even a small would be way more than I needed. I opted for spaghetti and meatballs. I received a large bowl of pasta with huge meatballs and it was steaming hot. It's a basic hearty pasta which is exactly what I like. Mama's is still good comfort food, still popular and still for groups. Would be awesome to have a smaller pizza option, but there may not be demand for it. read more

I would rate the pizza as ok... The crust is pretty plain jane but they do load up the toppings. If your thinking of getting a bigger size of pie because your worried if it will be enough, don't. I do have to say it was awkward the first time since they don't have a wait staff. You have to get your own menu, seat yourself and then order at the bar. Then when it is ready some guy who can barely pronounce numbers of course... calls your number and you have to pick it up. I will definately go back there but I wouldn't say it's the best in town. Two of us spent about $25+ for a pizza, breaded ravioli and a couple of cans of soda. Yes I said cans of soda. Oh and don't plan on finding a parking spot in the front... I was timid to try Mama's Pizza despite how many good things I have heard about it. I did, however, bite the bullet and try it and it was quite yummy! Nothing fancy on the inside. After debating for 30 min on buffet or pizza place.... Decided to take my son here on a lil man date. Ordered a small pizza. Half pepperoni and half cheese. Along with a beer for myself of course. Total order came to about 14.5 Was not to impressed with pizza. Nothing really special about it. VERY SUB PAR. My Miller Lite was tasty as fin-uck. Get with the times if you don't know what that mean. Crust was not for me. More like a decorated tortilla. It is spacey with tables for large parties. In Mama Pizza defense it seems to more of a party atmosphere. It does have a lot of TVs and they do play sound to major/key sports game. Still would not recommend it if you are looking to entertain a large pizza crowd. Honestly would not recommend this place for pizza and/or to bring party here. For what is being paid could get a lot more quality else where. Regret not making my annual trip to Golden Corral. This place never disappoints. If you have a problem with cheese/dairy don't come here for pizza (sorry my lactose interact friends) they use loads of hamburger and cheese which make such a great combo. Salads are pretty good too. Raviolis are small cute and good. My extended family and I always go there for gatherings and it's just a fun little place to go! The little arcade is great for the little ones. Idk why but the atmosphere is like none other. The togo there is nice food always hot when I get home but make sure you get all your food before you leave. Almost forgot my salad! Best pizza in Omaha. Super laid back environment where you pay at the counter then find your seat. Mamas supreme (I think that's what it's called) is incredible and they have awesome onion rings. Super disappointed to call for tables for a birthday party to find out that you now have to put your credit card down to reserve tables and pay for empty seats. I just can't afford to do that unfortunately. I would rather have a certain dollar amount that I needed to spend in order to reserve tables than to be told that I am going to have to pay for each seat (I can't control who comes to a birthday party but I can order more pizza to take home if there was a dollar amount, etc). I hope this policy gets re-evaluated soon. I guess the days of simply reserving tables are done, just wanted to warn others. read more

This is by far thee BEST PIZZA I've ever had, and I've had literally 100's from all over the country!! The Onion Rings are AMAZING!! There's nothing bad, mediocre, or otherwise I can say about this place...It's definitely worthy of a 5 STAR RATING!! There is one thing, this place gets so busy that parking can be a problem, so get here as early as possible. The prices are very reasonable, the beer is cold, the drinks are poured to perfection. I had not eaten here in so long when we decided to order. I am a new fan!! Everything was absolutely delicious. The pizza was stacked high with toppings and cheese and the bread sticks we ordered were fantastic as well! The food was done when they said it would be and everything was made exactly to order. Review of La Vista location: Food was hot and pizza was tasty, probably a 4.5 star rating and worth going back. However, what drags this place down are two things: 1) The place was a mess. The visit was at 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon and while it probably had a Church crowd earlier, ZERO attempt was made at cleaning tables. There were no less than 11 tables with plates, glasses, silverware, and used napkins that remained in that condition for the entire 1 1/2 hours we were there. It was filthy with food and utensils on the carpet. There were at least six employees that I counted. 2) The staff at the front wasn't very friendly. Daughter is a vegetarian and wanted a salad but their salads are 'pre-made' and the young girl had no interest in having one made without meat. She even said "you can just pick out the ham". The young lady doesn't understand, that's not how it works with vegetarians. I thought her attitude and demeanor took away from the place. Undecided of whether to ever try it again. read more

Come here at least once a year with a bunch of guys (90) and always devour 20+ pizzas. This year was no exception. The cheese is the perfect amount of gooey if you could picture it.
