The Butcher's Word

I am obsessed with this pizza place! I went to the Elkhorn location months ago, and can't stop thinking about the texture and taste of these Detroit pizzas. This was my first time coming to the Aksarben location, and it was a much different vibe from the standard restaurant experience we had in Elkhorn. I made a reservation for 8, and the day before our dinner, the manager called to let me know it was a UNO hockey night, so they couldn't get us in until a little later than planned. This worked fine for us, and the manager was very nice about it. When calling ahead to make my reservation, I mentioned bringing in a cake for a birthday, and they said there was no problem with putting this in the back and no charge for us to eat it there. When my party got there, we were told there was no freezer space for our ice cream cake -- this was my bad, I should have clarified over the phone this needed a freezer rather than a fridge! Luckily, they recommended cold Stone next-door, and the staff there allowed us to store our cake for an hour free of charge!! The overall venue here is much more like a sports bar than a restaurant. It was very loud at all times, although it was only about half full at the later time we came in. There were some fun table games to play like tic-tac-toe, connect the dots, And table shots. There is a pretty limited bar menu, as they are primarily known for their beers on tap, of which they have plenty! The mule I got was fine. I absolutely love the butchers word pizza, it has all the toppings I like, and they are very generous with these! My friend got a regular pepperoni pizza, and when I tried it, I realized the reason I love this spot so much is the oil they use on their pizza dough-- this sees into the dough, and gives it such an amazing flavor. Unfortunately, my pizza here had a thicker crust. Then the butchers word I got in Elkhorn, so it wasn't quite as good. Still a great pizza, but not the high I was chasing From a couple months ago! All in all, I would prefer to return to the Elkhorn location for a quieter restaurant vibe, and probably a more consistent product without event driven business.

Good pizza, reasonable prices and quick service. An order at the bar type place with really good pizza, was really loud inside but still a good experience. Pizza was piping hot and had plenty of toppings. A good pizza crust and very filling! We tried the fries too and they were good as well! Will return here!

YUM! This pizza was delicious! I am a huge fan of cream cheese on pizza so I had to order the Cadillac and it lived up to my expectations. My grandparents loved the bourbon bbq pizza and we all shared the pretzels which were also so good. If you're a fan of Detroit style pizza, this is the place to go in Omaha! They also had two different hard ciders on tap making me incredibly happy! The service was good and I would definitely come here to watch a sports game in the future given all of the tvs and environment. Great spot!

We stopped here again before another hockey game, and I was surprised they had the full menu available from what it appeared. We went with the butchers pizza that tasted amazing. This was my first time with Detroit style pizza and it did not disappoint. I also ordered the bacon cheddar sticks that were very good as well. Our pizza easily fed my husband and myself, and we took home leftovers. They have a decent selection on the menu, so I definitely plan to visit again and try something different.

Stopped here again for food and ordered pizza this time. I'm not a huge deep dish pizza fan, but this pizza was legit. The butcher's pizza (I think that's what it was called) was loaded with sausage, cheese, onions, and pepperoni that tasted great! Lots of beer on tap to choose from too. The service was quick, and the employees were friendly.

Wandering from downtown to Aksarben in search of locales open for lunch on a holiday, we found the Backlot Taphouse. What a find! I love pizza and while I've tried and tolerated Chicago deep dish, NY style remains my go-to but ... Detroit pizza! Oh. my. grace! The size here is perfect for two, but don't worry, it's nobody's personal pan. We had the four-cheese and the aroma was intoxicating. The flavors of the different cheeses came through, the rich tomato-y sauce and a delicious buttery crust with that to-die-for cheese crunch -- it would be easy to overdose, but one slice/one quarter of the pizza was enough. And now I have a hefty leftover slice for later! There seemed to be a wide variety of IPAs available, but I'm not a fan, so we went with a cherry cider that was really good. We tried the cheese pizza in order to get an idea of the basics. I can't wait to go again and try some of the other varieties. Last but not least, the people here are great! Order at the bar, they deliver to your table, and really seem to care about what you think. Give them a try!

Just stopped in on a whim. Will be back! Great space, great staff, great music. This pizza is amazing and the bartender made a great suggestion for the beer. Can't wait to come back in Spring.

We've probably been to Backlot taphouse half a dozen times by now and every time I am excited to come back here, still. The service is great. The board games - though sometimes sticky and missing pieces - add a layer of fun, and the food is excellent. Oh, and of course there are plentiful tap options... This is also the place that my kids got to watch Jaws, which we still talk about, for the first time, so what is not to love about all of that? Not to mention, the location is also great. All winning!

Left overs of the Detroit. Really good.

I was in town for three days. This is the first and last place I went when there. The Detroit Classic is really good. It's almost two meals. The G&T are good too. The wine pours are underwhelming though for the price. I would visit again. I heard the MOTOWN PHILLY is their second most popular item. The picture I attached to review is my left overs of the Detroit.

Service was great and the food was delicious. Perfect Detroit style pizza. Like NFL offensive lineman, big but light on its feet.

They have a great selection of German and euro beers, in addition to domestic and mixed drinks, seltzers, etc. The food is definitely a reason to check it out! They have one of--maybe THE--best Reuben in Omaha, so if you're looking for good food and good beer, check it out! The Oktoberfest party is epic, definitely come check that out, and it's pretty fun at Christmas, all the decor is very euro-Christmas vibes. The service is great, quick, friendly, and no nonsense, just what you'd expect from a dive.

We were being driven to the Orleans Room for their Reuben, which was excellent by the way. I can't say the same for the Crescent Moon sandwich. Crescent Moon is actually just kitty corner of the Orleans Room, so the walk was short. It is basically a dive which is fine, we expected that by the Uber driver's comments. The Deep Fried Pickles were excellent. The three ciders that our daughter sampled were not pleasing to her, so she had a cocktail. I had a Sierra Nevada Pilsner, which was fine. But the Reubens, and why we came, were awful. Our daughter, said it best when the sandwich had a mayonnaise texture. I realized the 1000 dressing that was served on the Reuben was too heavy of mayo. The presentation was also terrible. Open them up so we can see the inside of the sandwich, and both slices of the bread were broken...as you can see on the pics. We packaged the sandwiches to go as were were planning to be on a plane the next day back to Oregon. We intentionally left them at the table. They were that bad. Zoe was a pleasant BT/Server who was available whenever we needed her. But food is why we went there, and it was not good.
