Sauerkraut Balls (savory and creamy with sausage, sauerkraut, cream cheese and herbs, fried, and served with mustard.

So happy Rathskeller is back open! It's a great German restaurant in the heart of Blackstone/UNMC! It's a huge restaurant and outdoor patio for when it gets warm outside! You order all food & drinks at the bar but they will bring the food out to you and clean up after. We got the sauerkraut balls & Bier soup for apps, I liked the sauerkraut balls, my husband didn't like the texture, but he LOVED the bier cheese soup! He also loved the spatzel with his German meatballs, and my Brat was just fine, I'd probably try something else next time, like the Italian grinder I was also eyeing! Lots of free parking around the building, lots of TV's, food came out quick, and service gals behind the bar were super friendly and welcoming!

Great place with fantastic food and awesome wine and beer collection! Black Forest was amazing!

This restaurant continues to be amazing! I've been a few more times I've tried different things, and every time I love what I am eating. They still have an awesome selection of beers, and the customer service with their servers is top-notch. The place is always clean and well-maintained as well. Right now it's kind of difficult trying to get there because of a huge road construction project but still worth going.

I love German food, and this place is on point. The service is always top-notch, and they always have a nice menu to choose from. Plus having a ton of German beers on tap is always a positive. I usually go with one of their bratwurst, and their beer cheese soup is a must order item. My wife and I keep saying we're going to visit for Oktoberfest, and it's on our calendar for this year for sure. You should definitely check this place out!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here, but the food wasn't quite as good as we hoped. Everyone working was very friendly, and our dog got lots of pets, but we were disappointed in the food. There are a dozen things on the menu we would love to try, but as it of towners our experience was limited. We each got a "wurst". While the sausage itself was good, no complaints, it just wasn't anything that can stand out. They came with a side of a bag of chips, nothing you couldn't buy at the store. The indoor and outdoor offerings for drinks were different, which made it difficult since you had to pay separately or have a tab each place. It was a nice place to hang out for a bit, but not somewhere we'd go out of our way to revisit.

I tried this place for the first time during the great Reuben debate. This was also when I found out they sell stuffed pretzels?! The Reuben itself just wasn't my favorite. It was good but it had a lot of fatty pieces which I had to pull out. The pretzels however are so exciting I need to go back to try others. I don't dislike this place, it just wasn't my favorite food. Somewhere I'd try again for the pretzels.

Great place for lunch! We were there slightly after typical lunch hour so it was not busy. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The menus at the table could use some refreshing, as they are semi-tattered, but useable. We ordered a pretzel to share, and it was tasty. The grilled cheese sandwich was gooey and delicious. My bratwurst was unlike any other one I've ever had, but I enjoyed it. The best part of everything was the tomato jam that came with the grilled cheese. It makes a fantastic dip for the kettle chips that come with the sandwiches. I'm not from the area so it's unlikely I'll ever have the chance to get back there, though I would if given the chance.

First impressions are everything right? I called to see if they were doing dine in before we made the trek out in the snow, and a gentleman answered, rushed through the answer (sounding as if I already knew the answer) than hung up on me. While I'm sure they're "busy", don't ever hand up on a paying patron. Also, websites/Google aren't always updated with hours, so. We picked our spot to sit instructed by the folks behind the bar (seat yourself), and we chose a table off to the side around 5:51p. The waitress for the area passed us 5 times, never dropping off menus, never asking for water orders. So, we got them ourselves; excluding water. At 6:21p, a rushed guy came by and ask what we'd like to drink. By then we ordered. The dressing on the salad was too much for what little fancy lettuce there was. I might suggest to tone that down a bit. Plastic utensils are given, and hard to cut BLTs with. Granted we felt like we shouldn't even inquire about the possibility of getting a real knife just for the cut. So we didn't. Didn't hear too much back on the "best" Reuben, and the BLT was dry. Honestly, I felt in the wrong asking where the ladies bathroom was at one point, but noted if there's a next time.

Sausage platter (large might be too much for three people as an appetizer).

Had a good first visit to rathskeller in which we ordered some large beers and even larger tray of sausages (and slightly less pretzel than I would've preferred to eat). I also would've preferred there hadn't been a strong draft the whole time we sat near the stairs... I wasn't totally sure where it was coming from whether it was getting sucked in from the patio doors by the front doors. But this place is super cool. Warm. Lots of wood. Lots of beer. Lots of wins. I have a feeling this place is here to stay.

We typically start off with the bacon fondue fries, they are astounding, and is a repeat order EVERY single time. The first time we ate here I got the BBQ Chicken Mac & Cheese. This literally was like I was experiencing eating mac & cheese for the first time all over again. I personally love how the cheese sauce is a little more on the liquidly side, but not too much where the noodles don't keep any on them. The barbecue sauce used pairs sooooo well with the cheesy liquidly goodness, and the chicken and green onion tops it all off with the perfect crunch! Past the food, I love the beers here and love a good brewery vibe you get, you can for sure taste how much effort goes into their local drafts. Will always be at the top of my list for date nights or a quick bite and drink.

I came for the Detroit-style pizza, easily the most underrated pizza style there is. If you know, you know. I ordered The Cadillac: cream cheese, cherry peppers, hot honey. On paper, it's chaos. In practice? A beautifully thought-out balance of sweet and spicy. Rich without being heavy, heat without going overboard. Someone in that kitchen gets it. And for a moment, it's flirting with greatness. Almost a perfectly executed Detroit pie... until the crust. That signature Detroit crisp--the caramelized, fried-edge crunch--is just a little undercooked. Not bad, but quickly soggy. Just missing that final snap that makes this style elite. Still, credit where it's due. This is a valiant effort, and not an easy style to pull off outside its home turf. I see you, Omaha. You're closer than you think!

We were being driven to the Orleans Room for their Reuben, which was excellent by the way. I can't say the same for the Crescent Moon sandwich. Crescent Moon is actually just kitty corner of the Orleans Room, so the walk was short. It is basically a dive which is fine, we expected that by the Uber driver's comments. The Deep Fried Pickles were excellent. The three ciders that our daughter sampled were not pleasing to her, so she had a cocktail. I had a Sierra Nevada Pilsner, which was fine. But the Reubens, and why we came, were awful. Our daughter, said it best when the sandwich had a mayonnaise texture. I realized the 1000 dressing that was served on the Reuben was too heavy of mayo. The presentation was also terrible. Open them up so we can see the inside of the sandwich, and both slices of the bread were broken...as you can see on the pics. We packaged the sandwiches to go as were were planning to be on a plane the next day back to Oregon. We intentionally left them at the table. They were that bad.
