First time at Rathskeller Bier Haus and had a great experience. Wish I would have found their pretzels during Oktoberfest because it would win the best soft pretzels in Omaha in a landslide. Their cheese is an extra charge but I would highly recommend (the mustard is also a perfect addition). Washing it down with a beer was a perfect way to kick off the weekend! So happy Rathskeller is back open! It's a great German restaurant in the heart of Blackstone/UNMC! It's a huge restaurant and outdoor patio for when it gets warm outside! You order all food & drinks at the bar but they will bring the food out to you and clean up after. We got the sauerkraut balls & Bier soup for apps, I liked the sauerkraut balls, my husband didn't like the texture,but he LOVED the bier cheese soup! He also loved the spatzel with his German meatballs, and my Brat was just fine, I'd probably try something else next time, like the Italian grinder I was also eyeing! Huge servings! The Reuben was really lacking flavor but the Italian grinder was full of bold flavors - odd for a German restaurant. Pretzel and cheese was unbelievable, though. We had a gift card to go here and thought we'd give it a shot. My husband ordered a Bratwurst and I had a Cheese brat. I was very disappointed with the German potato salad. It was just cubed potatoes mixed with bacon. There seemed to be no oil/vinegar on it and it didn't come close to anything I have had in Germany. I also ordered an Apfelstrudel , but when she first brought it to me, it was covered with a chocolate sauce. I sent it back, requesting it without chocolate. Those are competing flavors! And I'm not a fan of chocolate. Taste wise it was good, but the crust was a bit tough. Atmosphere here is good for soccer fans, or any other sport that is featured on screen. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here, but the food wasn't quite as good as we hoped. Everyone working was very friendly, and our dog got lots of pets, but we were disappointed in the food. There are a dozen things on the menu we would love to try, but as it of towners our experience was limited. We each got a "wurst". While the sausage itself was good, no complaints, it just wasn't anything that can stand out. They came with a side of a bag of chips, nothing you couldn't buy at the store. The indoor and outdoor offerings for drinks were different, which made it difficult since you had to pay separately or have a tab each place. My wife heard a lot about this place. We decided to give it a try. We weren't disappointed. The building is huge, with a large patio. Effort has been made to space people safely, with plastic screens on the large tables. Screens which can be moved. Quite sophisto, I thought. Handles the slack mask wearing of some patrons. Spacious enough at the tables to avoid hassle. It's still a bit tight by the bar. So be it. The bar. Oldest German beers in the world are featured. I craved a pilsner and was not disappointed. German pilsners are flavorful. My wife trusted me on this and had them as well. The place had a huge group of younger folk meeting up, filling the patio and half the restaurant. It was lively. Slowed the food a bit. Her reuben and my charcuterie were still delicious. They even make the reuben with corned beef, which is her preferred way. My chef's board charcuterie was a pleasant mix of German charcuterie that made for a delightful lunch. Definitely will return. read more

I had heard a lot of good things about this place so we gave it a go. The building it's in has been around forever. Back in the day, it was a coffee house, and even more back in the day, it was "3 Cheers Bar", where I would partake in the occasional under-age drinking. I digress. My husband had the charcuterie board. I tried some of the sausages and pretzels and they were delicious. I had a Ruben sandwich which had sliced corned beef which always makes it taste great. We had a couple of beers with it. I can't remember what I had, I went with what the bartender recommended. I'm not a big beer person anymore, but I liked what he gave me. There was an event going on on the patio, so the kitchen was slammed with that, so our order took longer than usual. I tried this place for the first time during the great Reuben debate. This was also when I found out they sell stuffed pretzels?! The Reuben itself just wasn't my favorite. It was good but it had a lot of fatty pieces which I had to pull out. The pretzels however are so exciting I need to go back to try others. Great place for lunch! We were there slightly after typical lunch hour so it was not busy. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The menus at the table could use some refreshing, as they are semi-tattered, but useable. We ordered a pretzel to share, and it was tasty. The grilled cheese sandwich was gooey and delicious. My bratwurst was unlike any other one I've ever had, but I enjoyed it. The best part of everything was the tomato jam that came with the grilled cheese. It makes a fantastic dip for the kettle chips that come with the sandwiches. First impressions are everything right? I called to see if they were doing dine in before we made the trek out in the snow, and a gentleman answered, rushed through the answer (sounding as if I already knew the answer) than hung up on me. While I'm sure they're "busy", don't ever hand up on a paying patron. Also, websites/Google aren't always updated with hours, so. We picked our spot to sit instructed by the folks behind the bar (seat yourself), and we chose a table off to the side around 5:51p. The waitress for the area passed us 5 times, never dropping off menus, never asking for water orders. So, we got them ourselves; excluding water. At 6:21p, a rushed guy came by and ask what we'd like to drink. By then we ordered. The dressing on the salad was too much for what little fancy lettuce there was. I might suggest to tone that down a bit. Plastic utensils are given, and hard to cut BLTs with. Granted we felt like we shouldn't even inquire about the possibility of getting a real knife just for the cut. So we didn't. Didn't hear too much back on the "best" Reuben, and the BLT was dry. Honestly, I felt in the wrong asking where the ladies bathroom was at one point, but noted if there's a next time. read more

My wife and I and 2 friends met here recently and enjoyed the beer, and the food. One friend thought her Reuben was excellent. Another enjoyed his brat, and I liked mine (although, in my opinion, sauerkraut should be served warm, not ice cold), and my wife liked her brat. The Reuben balls were enjoyed by all (although they were initially served cold in the middle, but this was corrected once this was pointed out). Overall, I give this place a 5. The atmosphere was good, but employees kept going outside in the back, and at one point left the back door open (which we ended up closing ourselves), so it was fairly cold inside. Had a good first visit to rathskeller in which we ordered some large beers and even larger tray of sausages (and slightly less pretzel than I would've preferred to eat). I also would've preferred there hadn't been a strong draft the whole time we sat near the stairs... I wasn't totally sure where it was coming from whether it was getting sucked in from the patio doors by the front doors. But this place is super cool. Warm. Lots of wood. Lots of beer. Lots of wins. So I went here two months ago and was not able to eat due to an early closed kitchen. Last night I met a couple people here for dinner and got to experience my first meal here. I am a huge fan of the Reuben sandwich so go in and I knew that's why I had to get. I'm not a huge drinker but the selection of beer at second to none. I did have one glass of that Fruh Fruh Kolsch and it was decent and light. The service was decent and those I interacted with were all very polite as accommodating. As for my meal..... it is advertised as being Omahas number one Reuben. While I really enjoyed the salad that came with it and the basic chips, I didn't love my rueben. For me it wasn't horrible, but it was different. I'm not hating on it but it just wasn't my thing. It came across with different flavors that didn't connect with me and my Reuben palette. The sauce wasn't typical "thousand island type"... it was thinner and different tasting. The bread didn't seem to hold it all together well either.... Mine was borderline soggy. I'd go back here but I won't be getting that again. Still a decent atmosphere.... Though can be loud at times. Also had live music just starting as we were leaving and that was kinda cool. read more

Some of my co-workers and I ventured to Rathskeller a few weeks ago for a Friday lunch and it was pretty good. We walked in very surprised, as we were the only ones there. No one else walked in the entire time we were there, which kind of baffled me a bit. We sat down at a long, really cool, wooden table and gave our drink orders. The waitress was very quick and took our food orders a few minutes later. I ordered the Curry Wurst with the Bier cheese soup. Both were awesome and right on the price point. All of which are good but lets be honest, we didn't come to a bier haus for a sandwich, we came here for a sausage, a pretzel, and a beer. Inside it really feels like a german bierhaus. Long group seating tables, high ceilings and lighting, if I didn't know better I'd think i was transported to Bavaria upon walking in the door. One of the highlights of this spot for me, is their bier garden. The bar is inside the old Caffeine Dreams coffee shop building. It was definitely different seeing how much the interior changed but loved the decor and lighting. There were cafeteria-style long tables and benches made of solid wood pieces. Great selection of beers and food. The food was overpriced for what it is and what you get though. My friend got beer cheese soup and it was very soupy. His currywurst also lacked in flavor. My Cajun brat was good though and the German potato salad was delicious. My first choice of beer (Kristallweizen) was out so I went with a Hefeweizen. Service was very slow. Based on other reviews (via Google), this has been an ongoing issue. We went during the third week so I would have expected improvements in this area. Overall, fun environment, decent beer selection, overpriced food, slow service. My husband is German and we make a point to find German food whenever we travel so we were excited to see this place open up. The atmosphere/amenities from a bar standpoint are amazing. Such a cool vibe, patio/biergarden is amazing, lots of tvs for sports/events, fun games available and good drink options. I would love to see this space thrive but the food was mediocre at best. Not sure if they were understaffed but despite only having 3 other tables occupied and a handful of people at the bar the bartender seemed overwhelmed handling the POS and the bar. She forgot half our drinks and both spaetzles came out with red sauce even though the menu doesn't note red sauce. It says caramelized onions on the menu, but there weren't any of those either. Also the "German" meatballs are definitely from Costco/Sams and were cold. My husband's schnitzel was dry and overall everything tasted old. If the food improved this place would be 5 stars for sure. We really liked this place, we'd been here for drinks but never eaten. On a last minute food run we decided to try the food. The service is great and always happy to explain the choices available. I was looking for a certain kind of beer that no one has and they had it. The have German beers, USA beers, European beers, you name it, they'll have it. Big beer glasses, too, chilled. Food is great, we had the Castle sandwich ($15) and the Turkey Gouda sandwich ($14). One cannot go wrong with meat and melty cheese on a pretzel bun. Seriously. Both were fantastic. I also saw a Reuben ($15) and a Chicago Beef ($14) go by our table. Wow. Next food run. Similarly I ordered the Potato salad as a side (German) $4.00, which was salty, bacon-y with red potatoes. What's better than a cold beer and a delicious brat?! Rathskellers offers a large selection of German beers on tap and has a variety of pretzels and brats that are SO good. I have never had a bad meal at Rathskeller's and I try something new every time. I personally really like their side salad- the Dijon mustard vinaigrette is delicious! Rathskellers also has a very good vegan wurst (I could not tell the difference!). Would definitely recommend rathskellers! read more

Here again for Thursday night trivia. We sat at a table for 15 mins before one of us asked a worker if we were supposed to order at the bar. My boyfriend had already gotten a beer at the bar, so I guess the servers/bartenders assumed we knew to order at the bar??? This was different compared to our previous visits. The two other times I was here, we always had a server come to us. This time we ordered at the bar, got a ticket, and someone brought out the food. We had two late trivia team members as per usual of our team. We decided it was a problem when one of the late members got their food before we did and he arrived 10-15 mins AFTER we ordered our food. They checked in the back and I guess they lost our order. They had to come to our table and take our order again. It took a little while, but my boyfriend was about to say he didn't even want the food after waiting so long and drinking 3 liters worth of beer. The food ended up being pretty good, which is why I gave them two stars. You also pay at the bar now. My trivia team members were mad at me because I still tipped them after they messed up our order and since we had to come to the bar and place an order now. So the only thing they have to do is just bringing out the food. Side note: This isn't Rathskellers problem, but the trivia MC messed up the tie breaker answer.
