It's Saturday night and we're hankerin' for some pizza, but we're slightly bored with our usual pizza places. It's winter. We've been stuck in the house. Let's go for a drive! Approximately 20 minutes from Omaha (give or take depending on where in Omaha you live), Denny's Place in Crescent, IA is a bar (and grill) serving up a whole lotta tasty pizza. This is not CPK, so don't expect Thai chicken or Greek feta fun or California vegan tofu sprout. Denny's is about the basics...firm, crispy crust loaded with the right amount of sauce and a generous heap of standard toppings covered in cheese for a good price (a medium combo pizza runs about $12). Denny's is small with a local, dive feel. On a Saturday night, the wait for a pizza can be up to an hour. Don't be discouraged. If, like me, you love yourself some bar food, settle in with your cold beer and order a pre-pizza appetizer or two. I highly recommend a basket of their fried dill pickle spears and a basket of hot wings. They get all five stars for always friendly service, more than decent pizza, deep fried baskets of happiness, cold beer and that neighborhood dive vibe that I'm fond of. Didn't plan on stopping here on our day road trip but the bar across the street where we planned to go was closed. We went inside to grab something cold to drink and I had asked if they knew why the bar across the street was closed and they said it was always closed on Tuesdays. Obviously their website had wrong hours. Oh well. I stated I only wanted to go their because they had outdoor seating. To my surprise the bartender/owner told me he had just added an outdoor patio. Score! Cute little patio with 2 picnic tables and even a flatscreen TV. Was fun to sit with a local and chat it up over a cold one. Didn't eat there but would not hesitate to as the pizza smelled great and the inside was fairly large and super clean. Maybe on the next road trip! read more

Decided to try out Denny's Place on New Years Eve as it's fairly close to home and the group wanted some pizza. So Denny's is exactly what you'd expect a small town bar and restaurant to be. Locals at the bar, a scattering of tables, a couple video games and various beer signs to finish out the decor. While service was a little slow, they were friendly enough and kept our drinks coming. I ordered some wings as an appetizer and while they weren't bad, the wings were tiny. On to the pizza. Overall, it was okay. It hit the spot and tasted just fine washed down with a cold PBR. It isn't going to win any awards, but it wasn't terrible either. While I wouldn't go out of my way to search out this place, if I lived in Crescent there isn't any reason to not stop in for a beer and a bite. read more

Cheeseburger pizza here is awesome! I agree with the other review; don't expect white linen napkins, it's dive-ish. Service is good and you can expect to wait if it's Friday or Saturday but usually if you're early, it solves the problem. Food is cheap too! read more

A great small town pizza joint/bar! Nothing fancy here at all, but great food and prices. You can't go wrong with a short drive to grab a delicious pizza. The variety of specialty pizza are a little different than I'm accustomed to, all great choices though. We had the BLT pizza (seasonal) and it was phenomenal! We also had the fried mushrooms which seems like a bar food staple, they were great also. Two beers, large pizza and appetizer for $25. That's a cheap date right there! The wait staff has always seemed a little abrasive here, but that's just part of the deal here and I love it! read more

I tried this place after going skiing at Mt Crescent with my oldest son. I'm betting your first question is what/where is Mt. Crescent! (It's a small ski hill in Crescent IA) I enjoy trying out mom and pop places off the beaten path and this place met that criteria perfectly. The place is fairly small with a friendly feel to it. The food is very inexpensive and is really good. We ate nachos (corn chips, nacho cheese, with the salsa and sour cream on the side) these were good but not anything spectacular, but good for the about $3 that they cost. We also had a large pepperoni pIzza which was really good. The crust is thin and flaky, heavy on the pizza sauce (great flavor and just the way I like it) and then the pepperoni is under the cheese and a normal amount of cheese on the top. The ranch we requested is a very thick ranch which is awesome to go with pizza. My teenager and I both really liked the place. We went here for a second time about one week later 1-17-2020) and we had the pizza again (this time all pepperoni and half added pineapple). The pineapple was ok but IMO it didn't pair too well wIth the red pizza sauce I love pineapple on my pizza and even so would say to pick a different topping or change the sauce. We also ordered the macaroni cheese bites things (fried macaroni cheese triangles) they are awesome and kid approved especially when dipped in ranch, your mouth will love it even though it probably caused permanent damage to my arteries! Additionally we orders the onion petals (fried onion pieces). These were good, I've had better but only at a considerably higher price point (Tahoe Joes steak house and outback steak house) these onion petals when dipped in bbq and ranch were very good. Lastly we had a large order of garlic bread sticks. They were good and my wife and kids really enjoyed them but I would have preferred another pizza instead as it's very similar and the main difference is the absence of red pizza sauce which is very good here. Overall awesome little place off the beaten path. We will probably come here most days that we go to Mt crescent. read more

This Crescent, Iowa local restaurant, is not housed inside a large building. In fact, Denny's is probably one of the last 'road side' diners one will find nearby the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area. However, please do not let that discourage you. This local eating establishment is classic Americana. Most of the patrons consisted of kids, grandparents, moms and dads, trucker's, farmer's, and biker's. I saw various t-shirts that sported proclamations of loyalty to both the Iowa Hawkeyes, and The Nebraska Corhuskers as well. Outside, large Ford F-150's and various motorcycles of all different type of manufacturer's were parked. Where Denny's excels is their pizza, plain and simple. All of the pizza is hand made back in the kitchen...and you can order just about any topping for your pleasure. Personal slice, small, medium and large pizzas....reasonably priced...and they taste great! Your standard drink selection is available, sodas, ice tea, etc. Nothing fancy at Denny's, but if you want to sit down, relax, enjoy the local gossip, and eat a great meal at a reasonable price....Denny's is for you! Service is great as well. It takes a little bit longer to make these delicious tasting pizzas, so the waitresses always make it a point to come by and check on you, letting you know the status on your meal, and re-filling your drinks. Denny's is also a non-smoking establishment, so you can sit down in either a booth or a small table, and not worry about getting smoked out. A large HD TV screen is available for those who absolutely must pursue all sporting activities simultaneously. Denny's is simply a great place to eat for the entire family. Food was good. Service was some of the worst I have ever received. I am a server myself and typically tip 30%-50% but this was actually the first time I have ever stiffed my server. Maybe service is better if you're a local bit still. The sever did not even address herself to us. Ill just say that she was an older woman. It may have been Denny herself for all I know. She did warn us it would take a while on food. Our wings took about 20 minutes so no real complaint there. The pizza however took over an hour! I mean the restaurant was mildly busy but not packed by any means when we got there. By the time the pizza came there were only about 3-4 tables besides us so I don't know if more ovens for pizza are needed or what. I mean it is a pizza place so it should take no longer than 30 minutes in my opinion, especially considering the amount of business. A younger guy brought out our food. I felt sort of bad for him. He seemed stressed while our "server" chatted with the people at the bar neglecting the other tables.one table even left after they were given no service for about 10 minutes. We were tempted to tell another table that walked in to not order pizza due to the wait. After getting the pizza, I went up there after about 20 minutes to ask for separate checks for the 3 of us. She came out rather quick with our check (for her standards- by quick I mean 5-10 minutes later). With no thanks or good night we were quick to realize she only made one check which made it hard to pay between the three of us. The food was not great but good enough after skiing up the street for a few hours. The place was nice enough- not a hole in the wall. Overall this could be a pretty decent restaurant if it weren't for some of the worst service I have EVER received! read more

They have typical bar food except for the great tacos on Tuesdays and Pizza that seams popular. It's not bad but its pre-made crusts piled high with toppings. The chicken wings are tinny! The service is consistently the worse I have ever encountered. It doesn't matter if its busy or not. The waitresses are lazy and rude to everyone including the locals. They act like they don't see you trying to wave them down. They act like they don't hear you trying to get there attention as they walk by. If you do corner a waitress she will tell you she will be right back witch seams to just be there way of avoiding you. Tonight after I finally got my order in, the waitress comes back 45 minutes later and asked me if it matters what order my food comes out. (I had a to-go order and an eat in order) I told her "Yes, It would be nice to have my drink first" The only reason we go is that there are not many options in this small town. The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because the pizza was good, and maybe not everyone gives horrible service. We got there at 7:30. Our server did let us know when we got there that there was already a 30 minute wait on pizzas, and then each pizza would be an additional 5 minutes. We had a group of 8 and ordered 5 pizzas. Normal logic would add that up to everybody having their food by 8:45 at the VERY latest. Nope, try 9:30. Our server was an older woman with an absolutely ridiculous attitude. She first walked up and said hi. ........Then proceeded to just look at us impatiently. How about a "What can I get for you?". The next 2 hours was just constant waiting 10 minutes or more for a refill on a drink while watching her on her phone by the bar, not paying us any attention. Same thing for the checks and the to-go boxes. My best guess is that if you're not a local regular or know the staff personally, don't expect much at all as far as service. read more

Stopped by last Friday for dinner, and the place was packed by 6pm. We started with onion peels, and enjoyed those. We then shared a black and green olive pizza, which was pretty much on par with MaMa's, Varsity etc. The service is admittedly a little lacking. We had to grab our own to go box for our leftovers, our own plates for our pizza and go to the bar to pay, since our waitress pretty much forgot about us. (Our food was brought to our table by a cook, and we never saw her again after we placed our order) To be fair, it was only her and one other waitress working the entire restaurant. If they had worked out their staffing issues, it could have been a much better experience. read more

I've been here on multiple occasions within the past six years to enjoy Taco Tuesday. Sadly, after tonight's experience, even the delicious tacos can only bring my rating to two stars. The service was among the worst I've ever experienced. There is a server who has been there since my first visit who clearly dislikes her job; she is short with the patrons, even those who clearly are regulars and has no patience when questions are asked. After asking for our order, I ordered two beverages in anticipation of the busy night ahead of the staff. She only brings one but I am charged for two at the end of the night - not once visiting our table after taking our order. I hate to go on especially when the food was as good as it was - those cooks have the back of house figured out! After my party of three was finished eating, we waited nearly twenty minutes for the check before my boyfriend went up to the bar to wait an additional ten minutes to only be handed an incorrect tab. I am sad to sad that this lackluster service will be the exact and only reason we will not return. read more

Denny's pizza is SO good. We have tried just about every option they have and have never been dissapointed. The cheeseburger pizza is our favorite. The price is right and the beer is always cold. Give it a try. I guarantee you'll be back for more. Oh and they have great tacos on Tuesdays with specials. YUMO! read more
