Had an opportunity to attend an event at Pizza King this week. It has been a while, the building hasn't changed much in years, but it's well maintained. Dedicated parking allows for easy access. Imagine my surprise, arriving early to help with event set up and discussing the layouts of the room I encountered an exceptionally cranky and dismissive person. It was made crystal clear to me that we could not move a table four feet to allow for registration of the door to the private room. I was even more surprised when I found out that this person was one of the owners! A couple of employees that overheard the conversation confided that this is typical behavior and they don't really pay much attention to it. I have news, I don't get paid to be there, I pay to be there. Shortly thereafter this fun chat, I had the opportunity to meet the manager, who indicated that if they had known that the room was going to be used for the type of event we had that they never would've let it be used, even though it was a slow day in the middle of the week. WOW! Fortunately, two of the wait staff were exceptionally helpful and made great suggestions that helped us to facilitate an event that required some flexibility. Honestly, if it hadn't been for the two folks helping us out in the room, I don't know how we would've made it through the evening - very stressful. The pizzas were typical and basic ones were reasonably priced, as were hors d'oeuvres. Soft drinks were rather expensive at $3.50/person. Overall, my takeaway is that I will never, ever bring my business to this operation again until there is a change of management and ownership. I think it's time for a change. read more

Hubby and I went here to celebrate a work milestone together. It was an early Friday night. It was already pretty busy and they asked to seat us in the bar area. I really enjoyed that. It was much quieter than the birthday party in the dinning room! LOL. The waitress was there immediately and took our drink order. We shared a large steak, she split the salads for us and brought an extra plate for us to share the large dinner. Our glasses were never empty and we wanted for nothing the entire time. The ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare, and the baked potato was soft and fluffy. The bread basket was a nice touch even if it was run of the mill Rotella bread in it. It still made it seem special. All in all a very nice experience. I've been here many times over the years, remembering when I was young coming over with my dad from Omaha. Pizza King has never disappointed, Never. We have eaten here several times and had take out many many times. Pizza King is a very nice restaurant, maybe the nicest in Council Bluffs. The bar has anything and everything you could ask for. The large menu has it all. The prime rib, the crab legs, great salads and Fabulous pizza. I am in love with the pizza here. The crust has the crunch and the chew that I like. The sauce has great flavor and the list of toppings has it all. Every server that we have encountered have been Amazing. Not my first rodeo at Pizza King, but this time I was here for a party. Getting to the area was interesting. We had to stroll through someone else's party to get to our side of the partition. Awkward, but hey, adventure! The party area was set up nicely with a buffet, presents, and tables. Our server was friendly once I flagged her down for a Diet Coke. The buffet featured pizza, salad, and bread. The bread was amazing, clearly from Orsi's, but a little marinara for dipping would have made it legendary. Salad was standard iceberg with your choice of dressing. Pizza-wise, the hosts went with Cheese, Combo, Hawaiian, Buffalo Chicken, and a Bullseye, which was made with BBQ chicken, jalapeno, and cream cheese. Party-style, thin crust, and honestly the cheese pizza was the highlight. The bullseye came out later and was tasty, though the chicken cubes made me wish for some classic pepperoni instead. Surprise of the night was the Hawaiian, which had a shrimp hiding under the cheese. Big nope for me. Overall, it was a fun night celebrating the birthday girl, but the experience felt a bit meh. Bonus points for letting you bring your own birthday cake, and they provide plates and forks. Next time I am at Pizza King, I will stick to my usual steak. read more

This is my favorite all time pizza, I have been eating at Pizza King as long as I can remember, and it's just as good today as it was when I was a kid. They also have a full menu that is very nice, particularly the chicken parm, but 9 times out of 10 I get the pizza. The pizza style is probably akin to a cross between St. Louis style and pub style. Definitely thin crust, which is my favorite style. The restaurant itself hasn't changed too much over the years, which brings back great memories every time I go, they also have a cool bar area and large party rooms. The staff is always friendly, and the restaurant is always spotless. Sometimes the pizza takes a bit to cook if they are busy, but trust me, it's totally worth the wait. read more

What's in a name? I wouldn't have thought a place named Pizza King would be an up-scale restaurant. But it truly is! Celebrating our anniversary, my wife and I enjoyed a great meal there. Great food, excellent service, and a nice atmosphere made for a wonderful experience. The only problem was navigating our way into the parking lot -- the entrance near a busy intersection is a bit difficult to determine even using Google Maps. Just a minor hurdle though. My wife chose the Steak and Shrimp with sides of Mostaccioli (pasta w/ marinara sauce) and Vegetables. The steak was tender and juicy--very good! The other items were also good. Her meal came with a nice dinner salad with dressing served on the side. Since I wanted to see why they have their name, my choice was the Hawaiian Special Pizza (so many pizza options to choose from). It was delicious! I've heard about this place for years but never in this area at meal time. Got invited to eat with some family in the party room..m almost 20 of us. The free bread was perfect. I got a house pizza. A bit spicy and very light sauce but was actually good .... Just not my favorite. I watched others wolf down great burgers, love their salads, and savor chicken Alfredo. And that chocolate cake was pretty impressive. Yes it's a bit dated but clean and great service. Next time I'm in town I might go out of my way to come back and explore the menu. Family friendly. I stopped at Pizza King in Council Bluffs this evening after skiing in Crescent, thinking it was a pizza place. To my surprise, it's actually a steakhouse--but what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! I ordered the prime rib, which was a little overcooked compared to what I ordered, but still absolutely delicious. It came with a loaded baked potato and green beans, and the meal was incredibly filling. The cut of steak was massive, and the flavors were spot on. The ambience felt very "classic steakhouse" with a cozy and inviting vibe. I sat in the bar area, which had several tables, and overall the space was comfortable. While one of the waitresses was a bit dry, Will, the other server, was fantastic. He checked in on how the prime rib was cooked, and when I mentioned it was slightly overdone, he surprised me by bringing out a replacement. I appreciated the gesture but declined since the steak was still delicious as it was. That level of customer service really stood out. Overall, the meal was great--good food, good atmosphere, and attentive service from Will. I'd definitely recommend stopping by for a hearty and satisfying meal. read more

Thin Crust Pizza!!!! This pizza was packed with toppings - beef, sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and yes green olives. The olives give that splash of saltiness to this that makes the pizza. The service was on par and had a great time. read more

I can see the hype! We ordered takeout from here for five of us. We ordered online and the menu is Extensive! Like impossible to choose. What don't they have.....we got two pizzas with the Koshar salt crust. One was a margarita which seemed to me it had fresh tomatoes which was nice-and a pepperoni. The crust is thin and cracker-like. I didn't notice the extra salt. One of us had the chicken parm which comes with many choices, the chicken was great. Green beans seemed canned. Greek salad was generous. You can also get Dorothy Lynch dressing here, which, being from out of state is new to me. We all agreed it is great value for the money. We waited a few minutes for our order and got to watch what can only be described as an impressive operation. Several folks making pizzas, which were cooked in four ovens (how they keep track it all it beyond me) and super friendly service to go with it. I can see why this is a fan favorite. read more

The place is surprising because from the outside you think it's like a Pizza Hut. But inside it is a fine Italian steak house. The service was the best I've had in ages. Glasses were never empty, empty plates were promptly removed from the table, which I loved. I hate when servers allow plates to stack up on your table. The food over all is ok, it bad, not great just ok. But the prices are amazing. I had veal Parmesan with a side of green beans and motaccoli (sp?) The green beans were cooked just right, they were not from a can!! The mostaccolli , meh, past was over cooked and the tomato sauce would have benefited from some garlic herbs and salt. The veal Parmesan was a tad rough and the red sauce I've already addressed that. I will go there again and try something else though. It is definitely worth a another try I did get the gyro pizza and a salad a few weeks ago, and that did disappoint me, there was about 5 pieces of gyro meat on a large pizza. Maybe it was the end of the day and there wasn't much meat left, they only serve gyro on certain days. But I will try their meat pizza one day. Went to Pizza King on a Saturday night, solo, for prime rib. Wait was 25 minutes even if I was willing to sit at the bar, which I was. To their credit, they were upfront about the wait time and it was accurate. Like stepping back in time 40 years, except for the ultra-casual dress of most of the clientele. Highlight: The prime rib itself was excellent. Generous, juicy, flavorful. Bread and salad were OK. Bread fresh. Salad on the small side, but Italian dressing that accompanied it was good. Mashed potatoes and green beans OK but nothing special. Old Fashioned cocktail was disappointing. More like a Shirley Temple than an Old Fashioned, at least to my taste. That cocktail needs a really solid shot of bourbon to offset the sweetness. read more

I have been going there my whole life never had any issues. I had chosen to go there for my birthday. We get there and have a good time. I ordered the salmon like always. On my third bite I immediately spit it out. The middle of the salmon was raw/undercooked. The waitstaff asked if I wanted a new one. At that point I was done eating. Told them no thank you. They did take it off the ticket which was nice. I unfortunately haven't been back since and that was November. It will be a while before I will head back and even then I think I will stick with their pizza. read more

Food was amazing. Most on the menu are homemade. We had the margherita pizza, chicken parm, and the spaghetti. Amazing. The home made Italian dressing was aaaaaaaaawesome. Service was great. Personal service. The waiter we had was knowledgeable about the menu. Ambiance seemed like a small hole in the wall place from the outside, but a different look on the inside. The bad - The decor is in desperate need of an update. Everything is late 70s or early 80s at best. Therefore it doesn't feel as fancy as it once did. We ordered side salads and it was unappealing. It cost $5 for a small amount of lettuce, a slice of tomato, two cucumber slices, and way too much dressing. The great - The pizza! They have almost perfected their thin crust pizzas. The pepperoni is a classic and the Bullseye is a masterful BBQ chicken pizza with jalapeños cream cheese. Pizza King was a pleasant surprise. There is another business with a similar name that is quite different in environment and fare. So, when a family member suggested it for a special birthday dinner, I expected something much different. Yet the tables were set with linen, the service was attentive and the food was everything from gyros to king crab legs. The hardest part of the visit was placing an order. Some got pizza (it's in the name!) and I landed on beef tips and rice. We enjoyed our time there in a group of 10 and will go back again. read more

Second time I've come to town and dined here and it's now a favorite. The ambience is like stepping straight into 1968 - you just don't see a lot of restaurants like this anymore and it's sad. It FEELS like an evening out. Food: I've had 5 different pizzas, prime rib, fried chicken, house salad and mozzarella sticks. The last two are pretty standard - in fact I'd say the salad is OK at best. The pizza IMO is one the best examples of a Midwest pie: doughy, medium sauce, bubbling cheese and ingredients mixed throughout the cheese. This is beef country and the prime rib (only on Friday and Saturday so it has a weekend joy to it) is perfection. I've had prime rib at fine dining across the country (Vegas, NYC, Chicago) and this may be my favorite. Cooked to perfection with juices flowing - if you salivate at PR you need to try this. Fried chicken is fanatic - not over-spiced not under. The service is friendly and welcoming. Attentive without being overbearing. read more

We had dinner last night. My husband had a filet and I ordered the fire-roasted vegetables with Chicken and Alfredo. We also had onion rings as a appetizer. Our total bill with tip was just over $77. My husband had a wonderfully prepared steak and it was very tasteful. My dinner left A LOT to be desired. Every piece of squash was soggy to where it was dripping into the alfredo sauce which diluted it in consistency. The chicken was cubed in big chucks but had no flavor, nor did the sauce. It wasn't a cheesy taste and there was no hint of garlic or any season for that matter. I was so looking for a good pasta meal and ended up wishing we had gotten take out somewhere. Our server was attentive and handled her any tables with ease. No problem there. Everyone we came in contact with was friendly. IF I go back, maybe it will be a pizza. Try to evaluate what a place is trying to do when rating. This place has been here a very long time. The decor is showing age....a makeover might be a good idea. We both ordered Fried chicken...a previous review criticized the chicken. I disagree. The helpings were as large as ever before and the chicken was perfectly done. We both agreed and enjoyed our dinner. The prices for this is very much in line with other places we have been within the past year. Waitstaff is always young and think many a teen had here as their first job. The hash browns could use a ....not sure what exactly but seemed to be missing a special touch. We went in and sat immediately. This was a Friday evening and another place we considered on the other side of town was lined up. (We were in Omaha on our way home) so we called ahead both places. My concern is the Pizza King is being seen as Mom and Dad's place or my grandparents favorite. The name sounds like a Pizzeria: Not SO! this is a very fine restaurant with the highest quality, steaks, chops, Italian gourmet specialties. Atmosphere is very nice, a place you can dress for a special night out. The bar is upscale, cozy and romantic with a grand piano and inviting fire place. Going out to Pizza King is a special night out for family special occasions, or a special date night. Great steaks, fine wine, trimmings, great variety on the menu. All Prepared with great care and very high quality. The cozy bar reeks Sinatra Style "Intimate". They do it right in the Premier Steak House tradition. Pizza King has been on my radar for a while now. I have several friends who swear by it. We were told to order the Bullseye Special- a thin crust pizza with chicken, jalapeno peppers, with BBQ sauce and cream cheese. A bit too much cream cheese for my taste. We ate in the lounge which was nice. Since it's an older restaurant, it still has that dated, straight out of the 70s/early 80s look. We had good service. They also have an extensive menu of non-pizza items like spaghetti, steak, fried chicken, etc. Their pizza and fried chicken seem to be the most popular items. You get a lot of food for the price. Any time I'm in the Omaha area I always make the trek to Pizza King. Great service, great prices and something for everyone on the menu. Some highlights for me are the fried ravioli, the pepperoni and cream cheese pizza and the gyro salad, my girlfriend also loves the spaghetti and meatballs. We had a group of 8 tonite May 3 with reservations at 6:00. We were in the room just left of the entrance & our waitress was Sarah. We ordered food at 6:30 & it did not come to the table until 8:00!!! I understand if the kitchen was understaffed & clearly Sarah had a ton of tables, short staffed I assume. Myself & my husband frequent Pizza King but usually come during the week & sit in the bar with great service in there. However tonite we should have been compensated for something...it was a group of us siblings recognizing the 6th anniversary of our mothers passing. Food was good & they all were first timers there. Most ordered steaks however we had ordered a pizza so I'm sure their bills were over $100. I know ourselves tipped Sarah 20% as felt we could she was overwhelmed.
