Wow this bread cannot be beat. It tastes fresh out of the oven. The chicken breast was delicious and a medium is a good size sub. I had a small smoked turkey breast and it was more than enough. You can get extra turkey meat on the side for only .75 cents so it gives a little extra protein. The chocolate chip cookie gets a thumbs up which is high praise from my husband who is an expert! This is my go-to for lunch since it's not far from the office. The staff is friendly and they always manage to work thru the crowd. It gets pretty busy during lunch, but my wait is never really very long. My regular order is the hook and ladder that you can also get as a salad, and I often do. Out of all the chain sandwich shops throughout the U.S., Firehouse has been my favorite for over a decade. This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and value. The food is always the same. Delicious every time. What I like most is their sandwiches are not too breaddy, like some sandwich shops. They are generous with the meat, and that is the key for a delicious sandwich, IMO. The service here stood out. I was greeted, there was polite conversation, and he even went above and beyond to ensure my points were rewarded. Truly good customer service. The dining area was very clean. The drink station was spotless, and that's where most places lack in cleaning. The atmosphere is average for a Firehouse/sandwich shop. The value is okay. Some sandwiches are pricey, but I keep coming back. If they were more affordable, I'd eat here more often. I rarely pass up firehouse because it's so good. You can modify your sandwich and i like the turkey bacon club. They have friendly staff at this location and we had our sandwich super fast. Restaurant was clean and it's a quick in and out. Will return next time in this area. read more

I really like the subs taste, but they have gotten ridiculously small and pricey. I got a small sub and it was maybe 3 or 4 inches long and was probably as skinny as a hotdog bun. Very long wait, about a half hour to get something you can eat in a minute. The food was not bad, just the speed the employees were working at was disappointing. Nobody was really on their A-game. I had been to this one a few times before the pandemic and was usually happy - there food is good and the service is pretty good as well. In the past 3 months I have been there at least 3 times and the first two times was not a great experience - I was service by this older man who just seems so unhappy with being there that it affected his services (not my sandwich). This last time I went - I had actually made up my mind just just go somewhere else if he was working but he was not - 3 guys - one seemed to be in training. But my gosh the service was amazing and the sandwich was great as well (it didn't hurt that I reloaded that app and saw how many points I had - essentially my large sandwich and cookie cost under 2 bucks - but man was this a good sandwich. They have great sandwiches and food. Some of it has a smoked feel to it, especially the meat. I think in my opinion the Hook and ladder ist the best. With Miss Vickies salt and vinegar chips. With a coke. I'd rate the food a 9.5/10. The service was great. The servers were so sweet and nice. They had a good attitude about pretty much every thing. The food took very little time to cook. Firehouse Subs is a great sub joint. Right when you walk in, you are greeted with about 5 'Hello, welcome to Firehouse', which is always nice. I get the Brisket sandwich every time I go, and let me tell you, it is the best brisket sandwich around; even better than some of the BBQ joins in the area. Firehouse's brisket is slow cooked for about 16 hours every day. And you can tell by the tenderness and flavor. AND they have about 30 hot sauces that you can try, ranging in heat from 1 to 10, 10 being freaking hot. I always try about 3 different hot sauces while I'm there. This is one the features of the place that I like the most, besides their food of course. I've been to Firehouse about a dozen times and will definitely be going back soon. This place is OK. To me they're all the same (not in taste but in my enthusiasm towards them). Subway..Quizno,..firehouse..JimmyJohns..etc. One thing that made this chain stand out to me was the personality of the staff members. I got greeted with a good amount of "hi and hellos" as I walked into the door. I saw staff members walking around asking people how they were doing. They also have a wall of over 30 sauces that you can add to your sandwich which makes this place a little more unique in the sea of sandwich fast food shops. Not much different than a Quiznos. The menu is a little on the small size, but the do have a huge selection of hot sauce. There really want anything wrong here, but there wasn't anything memorable either. Staff was awesome, very friendly. It was just so so for cleanliness. Finally got around to trying Firehouse - it's decent but I am not going to rush back anytime soon. I tried the Smokehouse brisket cheddar and the New York steamer. The smokehouse brisket and cheddar is just your basic thinly sliced beef with bbq and cheese - not very impressive. The New York steamer with corned beef and pastrami was pretty good . Like I said these sandwiches are fine and definitely a cut above Pepperjax but nothing earth shattering here. read more

This is one of our favorite sandwich places around. I've never had a bad sandwich here. They are all great. It can get kind of spendy, but you never feel like you didn't get your money's worth. The meats are good quality. The pickles are damned tasty and you can buy the empty 5 gallon pickle buckets with lid for 5 bucks when they have them. I'm always satisfied and usually can only eat half of my sandwich so I save the other half for later. It ends up being two meals instead of one. The service is really good, the food is really good. The store is always clean. The only complaint I've ever had is that I hate the new gazillion option soda machines. Most of the soda except the Dr. Pepper tastes funny, almost like diet soda. It's not just here, it's at all the restaurants that have the new machines. Mostly I just don't like the machines because only one person at a time can use them so it gets backed up when places get busy. All in all, Firehouse is a winner! read more

USDA Choice beef brisket smoked for 10+ hours.....need I say more?? So I ordered the bbq cheddar beef brisket sub. The brisket was to die for. Inside the restaraunt there are over a hundred different Hot sauces to choose from. My wife ordered the club on a sub and she was very impressed. We both agree that this is the best Sub shop in the area. Light years ahead of blimpie, Jimmy Johns, or any of the local overpriced sandwich shops. It was very loud inside due to a packed seating area so we chose to sit outside at their seating there. Even though they are supposed to deliver our food it sat on the counter until a kid came out and said is so and so here and your food is ready. For a fastfood chain sandwich shop, this is as good as I've had! I've had the Pork and slaw sandwich and the Meatball Sub, and both were very good. The Pork and Slaw is a mess but it's the best. The dining room could be bigger as this place is always busy during lunch and there are people standing everwhere. They need a better defined "line" to stand in that is out of the way of the soda machine and bathroom hall. The firefighting theme is fine, whatever, just go for the food! I love Firehouse Sub and would choose it over all of the other sandwich chain restaurants that can be found locally in Council Bluffs. They use high quality ingredients in their subs and they seem a lot more filling. Their menu contains creative sandwiches at least more creative than their rival counterparts but if you don't like one of the options you can customize however you would like. I am not a soda drinker but they have one of those cool customizable drink machines as well which is an added bonus. I also love that they support the local first responders. I always round up my bill and drop my spare change in their collection bucket! The only downside is that the wait is a little longer than a typical sub shop but when you take into account that quality food takes a little more time I think it's worth the wait! read more

Ok I had seen the commercials and was thinking, oh another Quizno's. Boy was I wrong. The bread is excellent, crusty but not hard. They make sure you get plenty of meat, and assoryed toppings. We ordered 4 large sub sandwiches totaling almost $50 for family dinner to go Friday night. The food was good, they ran out of large bread and pieced it together with other pieces. They charged my card the $50 that night for the order and then charged it again the next morning (Saturday) for a total of almost $100. When we contacted them about this they said the online sometimes does this and the 2nd charge would roll off after the weekend. No apologies or care that we may need our money or it may have overdrawn our bank account or some such. It is now Monday night and the 'loan' they took has still not been repaid. I absolutely love Firehouse Subs. Such a flavorful and filling experience every time we go. The Firehouse Subs in Council Bluffs is quite exceptional from what I hear. Even though there is a Firehouse Subs across the river in Nebraska, I've heard people (from Offut) saying they'll only come to the one in Council Bluffs. It's just that good. Being the simple girl I am, I always get the turkey bacon ranch on wheat. It bursts with flavor, and the meat is always super flavorful. My husband, along with everyone else it seems prefers their famous brisket. Another plus is that they have anywhere from 20-30 different sauces, all rated on a heat index from 1-10, Sriracha being a 6. Our experience has been very pleasant every time. I will say that our average wait time for entering to exiting is about 15 minutes, which can get a little long, figuring there's really no place to sit and wait without taking up a seat. It's usually busy, and the staff is mostly pleasant. The last time we went, the staff member taking our order was a little rude. She seemed tired, overwhelmed, and was very short with us. Very different than the other employees. Overall, I'd have to say that I look forward eating at Firehouse. It has become a regular joint for my husband and me. Firehouse donates thousands of dollars to public safety organization. What a great idea to give back! As a teacher, I love seeing establishments donating 15% (!!!!!!) of their profit back to education. Stop into Firehouse on your birthday without signing up prior and enjoy a free sub! read more

She made recommendations and showed us through the whole order at the counter thing (reason for no 5th star) and stopped to check and see how we liked our New York Steamers a couple times.
