Wanting a casual place to eat, we cruised down 72nd St. to Firehouse Subs. The inside is bright, cheerful, and full on firehouse decor. The giant picture of a fire and firefighters draws the eye. Not sure what the little demon-like critter with horns was about, though. The black and white spotted tables are an homage to Dalmatian dogs. Unfortunately, the first three tables we chose were not clean, and two others had major issues with wobbly bases. However, there were a lot of empty tables so we found a clean, not tippy one. The wispy-voiced worker came around shortly after to wipe them. We perused the takeout menus then headed to the counter to order: side salad with mac and cheese for me and while Bookguy chose a hero sandwich with potato soup. The salad was disappointing because much of the lettuce was core pieces and a bit rusty. It was basic with a couple of tomato bits, green pepper and a sprinkle of cheese. The mac and cheese was just okay, with very mild flavor but creamy. I would not get either of these again. Bookguy really liked the flavor of his sandwich; it had a sweetness from the honey ham but also included turkey, roast beef, provolone cheese, and lettuce. He didn't like the soup that well, it was very thin, with not much flavor, but said the sandwich was good enough to get again. He would have liked it to be a bit hotter. The menu has a lot of options, so I predict a second visit. read more

Stopped in a few weeks ago with my husband after an exhausting shopping trip at NFM, and we really needed to refuel. Just across the street from the furniture plaza, and next to the old big lots, Firehouse Subs is like an elevated subway. It's about the same price as subway too. I love a warm sandwich and they're all toasted, to perfection. I loved the turkey sub, and ofc the pickles. We split some chips and I was able to return to my regular happiness after the hangry subsided. read more

Thankfully I have an intolerance and not celiac because if I was this could've been life threatening. My visit to firehouse subs was a great experience. I love that they support organizations that I am also passionate about. I got the Turkey Bacon Ranch sandwich and it was a treat for the taste buds. Today was my first firehouse sub, but it definitely will not be my last. A good tuna sub is hard to come by. In the past I would go to the other sub chain we all know and love, because quite honestly their tuna was pretty decent. However, I hated the way they would spend the tuna on the bread like it's butter. In a thin as possible layer. I'm like what the heck!! The service was friendly and efficient, by the time I got my drink, my sub was ready. Firehouse subs tuna not only tastes better, there is a healthy amount of tuna on there. This was my first time visit to a Firehouse in the Omaha area. The restaurant was clean and the staff greeted me quickly. The counter person made some recommendations about my choices which were appreciated when ordering. The food was quickly prepared and the meal was very tasty. It made me remember why I preferred Firehouse over Subway when I traveled to Sioux Falls. You will get free WiFi from the Domino's Pizza next door if you want to surf for free during your meal. Note: This is one of those places that yells words of welcome when you enter, just so you're prepared. Pretty tasty sandwiches. My eyes were for some reason drawn immediately to 'the engineer' sandwich and I ordered it without even reading the description... which, turns out, is the kind of thing I would have ordered anyway: Smoked turkey breast, melted Swiss, and sauteed mushrooms, served Fully Involved (which includes mayo and cheese). We got ours as takeout with some chips and a bizarre concoction of cherry limeade and strawberry diet Fanta... something about those Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines just makes me go a little mad apparently. I do enjoy this place. The sandwiches are amazing and the environment is interesting. Staff during the day can seem a little rushed and sometimes annoyed that they are serving you. I am not a fan of this yelling greeting theme that so many places are adopting - I would rather be greeted with eye contact while they are taking my order. The evening staff is much more friendly, but some of that I am sure has to do with how busy the place is and the different crowds. Thought I would try out firehouse subs. I love the thought of a place that gives back. Food not so much. I ordered the 8 inch Hook and ladder but when I received it it was nothing like what was pictured no lettuce, tomatoes or onions no mustard or mayo so I went and asked and she said oh no sir it's supposed to come with it all on there so she brought me a basket of wilted lettuce two not so ripe tomatoes and I built it myself. I also got the chili with it just canned tasting chili not what firefighters would make. Sandwich tasted fine but for 11.00 you would expect a great sandwich liked the one pictured. The people was nice and friendly food is less than sub par. If I could review people 5 star but food 1 star so I evened it out by the 2 star review. A chain sandwich shop is a chain sandwich shop; they each have their themes and gimmicks, but my experience is that they're pretty much all the same, save Heidi's Brooklyn Deli (do yourself a favor and pull over should you happen to pass one.) We walked in at about 6:30 on a Sunday night. There was one customer and two employees. We didn't get the yell-greeting mentioned by other reviewers; instead it wasn't until after 3 minutes of standing awkwardly and then approaching the register were we even acknowledged, with the employee passive-aggressively noting that his co-worker hadn't greeted us. He was perfectly lovely while taking our order, and perhaps he had been oblivious to the situation and was trying his best at damage control. The sandwiches were fine. I got the Italian, but it had been so long since I'd last been to a Firehouse Subs that I forgot that I don't like the dressing they put on it, but that's my fault. It's too sweet for my liking, but I still ate it. Damage Control Employee also gave us the spiel about their hot sauces, ranked from 1 to 10 in terms of heat-factor. The staff is friendly, the food fantastic (with plenty of variety for all). the ordering process is a bit lengthy and the wait longer than say subway or jimmy johns but you can't beat the quality. They don't rely on crazy ingredients like Namibian chile peppers or Spicy Thai Hummus (though, they do have a lot of those hot sauces to add if you'd like). They aren't deep fried, oven steamed, or any other atypical preparation method. They aren't freaky fast and to my knowledge they don't deliver either. No, Firehouse Subs doesn't rely on niche tastes or uncommon speed or a massive menu or gimmicky portions. I love sandwiches that somebody else made for me, but before Firehouse came to Omaha, it was hard to find a good, fast sandwich. This place has fireman-themed decor (think Dalmatian-spotted tables), the kids like it. So far I've only eaten from the under 500 calorie menu, the sriracha beef (good) and the hook and ladder light (better). The kids meals come with plastic fireman hats, which is fun. The employees are always super friendly and helpful. They have one of those fancy Coke machines with all the flavors, so on a busy day the drink line can be pretty crazy since only one person can go at a time and it can take a while to make a choice. Or you can be like me and skip the soda line and get iced tea. I just wish they delivered. read more

Had a turkey sandwich here. Pretty good. Ingredients seemed pretty fresh. Staff was friendly--almost too friendly. I really don't like places where everyone tries to yell hello to you when you walk in. I get it, you're trying to be friendly, but tone it down. One person saying hi is fine. Anyhoo. Ordered my sandwich to go. Order was done quickly and correctly. Tables and area near soda machine seemed clean. Would definitely go again. It's sort of in the realm of a Quiznos or something. I love sub sandwiches. They're about my favorite thing to eat for lunch and sometimes even dinner. And I'm always on the lookout for new places to get them. Firehouse doesn't do anything radically different from other sub shops when it comes to the ingredients they put into their sandwiches, but they are well made and are pretty flavorful. I had the Engineer (turkey with Swiss and mushrooms) and it was pretty satisfying though smaller than I thought it would be. My parents, while stating that they preferred their subs over subs from competing chains, weren't as enthralled as I was though we all agreed that we would be willing to eat them again. My mom's sandwich was drippy and kind of runny, and she and my dad both said theirs were a little bland and lacked the deli mustard that was advertised to come on them. Overall, decent sub place with decent food. Don't go expecting them to reinvent the typical sub sandwich, but if you're looking for something classic and well-built Firehouse will do it for you. read more

Finally got to Firehouse. Moved here 6 yrs ago, but never got around to it. I wasn't missing anything. I tried the new Ruben. Mistake. Not even close, too much Pastrami. You couldn't taste anything else. And I'm pretty sure you don't add Mayo when you already have Thousand Island dressing on it. My wife had the turkey ( everything is smoked there, no options),that had sooo much mayo, she had to scrape some off. The turkey was chunky, not sliced. Had been wanting to try their sandwiches for awhile. The pictures look mouthwatering. Ordered takeout online through yelp. Went to pick them up. Sent my brother in. He came back saying they had no order. They told him it must be another location. I went in and showed the order on my phone. They kind of laughed and said oh yeah. The order was sitting right there. It wasn't busy. There were only two girls. Our order was right there. How hard was it to figure out. But still, they did smile and apologise. Not a big deal. So got home, the bread was ok but bland. Not a crusty top like the pictures show. Not a huge amount of meat. I had the pastrami. It was ok. My brother had the sweet and spicy meatball and he really liked it. Meatballs were plenty and not overwhelmed with sauce. I like that the combo comes with chips and a drink for just a couple bucks more. Under $20 for 2 sandwiches, chips, drinks and tip. Wow, I had never had Firehouse Subs before, but thought I'd give it a try while I was driving between stores for work the other day. I didn't know what I was getting into - but had heard good things. I had the Turkey Salsa Verde sandwich and it blew my mind! I was floored at how good it was! This is by far the best sandwich shop in town, of the ones I've tried. Previously my favorite was Which Wich but now they've been demoted as Firehouse Subs is the best sandwich experience of my life. So good! Definitely would recommend! read more
