You want oysters? This is the place to get them. (I've heard good things about Ryleigh's in Federal Hill, but I can only write 'em as I know 'em.) Great oyster selection. Salty, sweet, big, small, Mama's has them all, just waiting to be shucked for your slurping pleasure. I'm told their Maryland crab and cream of crab soups are excellent, and the oyster stew as well, but baby, I'm in it for those slimy little mollusks! Why buy soup when I can bivalve? read more

Been a few times and was waiting to write my review based on brunch because I've heard so many good things. Not a huge menu (that's a good thing) you should be able to socialize while you eat not just eat! Brunch cocktails were well made but not so boozy that you are a stumbling drunk going out! Went with two couples who aren't total foodies and one is vegan. It satisfied and then some! I had the seafood chow-duh and the Lobs-stuh hash. It really was chock full of great well sautéed lobster meat. Definitely a brunch to check out!!!! read more

A must-go for a Canton square visit. I would definitely recommend it for their menu offerings. All of the food is excellent. Never had a miss, whether it was breakfast/brunch, lunch or dinner. However, I didn't really like the service, but I don't blame the restaurant, because the place is a corner location with very limited space and the venue gets SO packed most of time! I'm not sure if they take reservations, but I would really recommend trying to get one! read more

I went back to Mama's and found the experience even better. It was middle of the week so it wasn't very crowded. We ordered the crab dip to start. It was pretty good. I got the fried oysters as my entree. They were really delicious! They tasted very fresh and the chipotle marina that accompanied them was really good too. Mac n' cheese side was also tasty. I'm not super wild about olive spread on garlic toast. It's very oily and extremely salty. Server checked in and was attentive. I'd say a much better experience this go around. I wish ther more options on their menu or daily specials such as a crab pretzel, fish tacos and coconut shrimp. read more

Really good!!! Loved the Chesapeake Pasta! If the ads more crab meat would be on the money for sure.

Finding ourselves hopelessly lost on the eastern tail of MD had us hankering for some seafood, especially knowing we'd have to pass through Baltimore on our way back home, immediately we thought Mama's, again. 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon did not seem like a time it would be packed, but it was hopping, though we had a table almost immediately. We both ordered salads to start (I got a delicious golden beet & arugula salad) and only mine ever came - and since we *thought* his would be coming on its heels, we didn't say anything until our main course came. Last time we were there, they brought cheese and crackers to the table just after drinks.... nothing this time. It took two visits to the table with empty glasses to be offered a refill of iced teas. The 1/2lb of steamed shrimp was more onions than shrimp this time round. Plus the cocktail sauce it is supposed to come with was absent upon serving (but amended quickly). The brussel sprouts that my bf got in addition to the salad that never came were almost raw. How can you mess up brussel sprouts?? I don't know how much was on the kitchen staff (someone who wasn't our server served my salad) and how much was on the server, and how much was just because it was so busy. I'd give it another chance, eventually, but I think next time I'm passing through Bmo, I'll have at another restaurant. Sorry Mama's. read more

It's 4p and we ventured in for an early afternoon happy hour. We had originally been told we could sit in the front at the tables since there were 15 of us and we were going to be ordering food. Then because we weren't ordering food quick enough we were moved to the back--where there was one table and half the group ended up sitting around the bar---not that big of a deal, just annoying, because the grouping was better in the front. Food was good---the seafood potato skins were unique and quite tasty---crab dip was great and we really enjoyed the variety of crackers---cheesecake was cheesecake, nothing speclal there---all in all service at the bar was right on par and he did a great job with all of us since the waitress in the front must've decided she wouldn't get enough tips off us. OH! I almost forgot---the calamari was AWESOME. Great BIG crispy calamari rings in a tangy cocktail like sauce. That dish, i'd definitely order again! read more

The crab cakes are amazing! The remoulade sauce is delish! This place was worth the trip to Baltimore.

Very large variety of seafood and seafood related dishes. Casual, friendly atmosphere.

Showed up on a busy saturday night and got seated in 15 minutes. Would have been willing to wait longer for this. Awesome menu selection. Food is great. Staff leaves you sitting for a little too long on a saturday night without checking on you but the meal more than made up for that. The Seafood chowder is outstanding and the fish selection is good. I have been here a few times and the daily specials are always creative and what I have had is deliscous. read more

Oysters were blasted with shells. Pasta of the day was incredibly bland. No lump crab to be found in it. Chili's pasta rates way higher and for $10 Service was ok read more

"There's four in our party, not three" I came here with a three of my college friends, one of whom was craving raw oysters. This was my first experience eating oysters, and I thought it was good one. We ordered a mixed platter that came with 12 oysters, 4 of three different kinds. Our main entrees, however were not as impressive. My friend ordered a tuna steak medium, and it was overcooked. I think was disappointed me the most about this restaurant was the service. I don't know if our server couldn't count or something, but she kept bringing us our plateware/silverware three at a time, and she would always have to run back to the kitchen to fetch one more. We didn't have enough of the little forks for our oyster course, and she never came back with them even after we requested them. She only brought us three plates, so we had to wait for her to get the last one. And to top that all off, when it came time to split the check, she said she could only take a maximum of three credit cards. Which is fine, I guess, but we all found it a little amusing. If I ever crave raw oysters again, I'd come back here, but not for anything else. read more

I'm ashamed to admit that until this weekend I had never been to Mama's. For years I've avoided the Canton square because of the overabundance of frat boys but it seems I've thrown the baby out with the bath water. Second admission, until this weekend at Mama's I had never tried raw oysters. Well now I can knock that off my foodie list at last. The atmosphere at Mama's is great. The outdoor seating has mist umbrellas for hot days and the inside decor is great. A true collection of Baltimore and Canton paraphernalia and a great pub-y vibe. Not sure raw oysters are my thing - I didn't hate them but I didn't love them - but the fish and chips were good and the rest of the menu looked pretty amazing. I will definitely be back. read more

In town for work, and staying with my friend who lives Canton, and we decided on Mama's on the Half Shell for the outdoor seating, and my friend who lives here claimed it is one of her favs. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks while we waited for our outdoor table. Bridget has been raving about the Grapefruit Crush drink that she orders from here, and I was excited to try it. Um, yeah, refreshing party in my mouth!!! Grapefruit vodka, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, triple sec, a splash of soda water, all served over crushed ice. She actually ordered hers without the triple sec to save calories, and it was still totally delish. Once we were seated, I began looking over the menu and was kind of overwhelmed. So. Much. To. Choose. From. They also had a huge specials menu....oy vey! I immediately wanted the Tuna Tar Tar app, and Bridget said it was her go to here, so I went ahead and ordered it. Came out in about 5 minutes, and it was so good! Tuna was fresh and the seawood salad was yummy. Our other dining partner ordered the Beer Musslels per the waitresses suggestion, and when her dish came out, I was REAL sad I am allergic to shellfish. I did of course eat half of her bread and sopped up the sauce with it...so spicy and flavorful. I wish they bottled so I could eat it with bread every day. I finally decided on the Half Chicken special since I had the best chicken I ever had on Saturday, and now I am on a quest to beat it. Well, Mama's chicken tied it. The sauce was soooooooooooooooooo good. Rich, buttery, and dark. The fingerling potatoes and baby carrots....perfect with the chicken and sauce. I could only eat half of the half chicken...probably because of the half loaf of bread and tuna tar tar I ate. Long review short....if you live in Canton, eat here, and eat here often. And tell them they should add the chicken to the every day menu...it is that good. read more

I really do not understand the hype. I've come here quite a few times and, while I've never been impressed, the last time we came here for brunch I was legitimately disappointed. It's a very popular place, so it's almost always loud and crowded, which is fine if you're in the mood for that kind of ambiance. I've tried the crab dip and the salmon BLT for lunch/dinner. Both were okay, nothing special. The last time we came here for brunch I was so disappointed to spend $40 on their brunch. My boyfriend got the country fried steak and eggs, which he liked. I wanted to keep it simple, so I just ordered eggs with bacon and potatoes. The eggs were like soggy, institutional eggs and it was kind of gross how warm my fruit salad was. I won't come back for brunch. read more

A must-go in Baltimore! Delicious food. Perfect for showing out of towners what food in Baltimore is all about. Try the crab dip, bloody Mary's and peel and eat shrimp! read more

I've been here a couple of times now. Once for their awesome happy hour and once for a late afternoon lunch. Both experiences were great! Happy hour we had a huge basket of shrimp for $5 and another plate of nachos for $5. Not the healthiest we could have done, but perfect for a happy hour with girlfriends. The next time, we had the calamari and I had the seafood melt. The seafood melt was scallops and shrimp with tomato on an english muffin.. topped with melted cheddar. Total comfort food and it was even better heated up the next morning for an indulgent breakfast! (let's be serious.. could not finish the whole thing). Calamari was delicious, big pieces and a seriously crispy crunchy crust. Loved it. My friend had the grilled salmon BLT which he devoured. It was a big sammy! I'd be back any time. Especially the great wait staff that brought out water for my friend's dog! read more

Well call me a Mama's boy from now on. Nice food and great service. The place was packed on an early Saturday afternoon and we sat at the Oyster bar. The Oysters were fresh, the tuna and soft crab sandwiches were excellent. Interesting drinks (e.g. my wife had yummy grapefruit/vodka drink) and the ambiance was great as well. read more

Decent place over all. Usually very busy most nights. Seafood is good overall, try a Blue on Blue for a fun start to a meal/night. The part where Mama's shines is the Sunday brunch, the French Toast is easily the best I have had. So worth coming back for. read more

Came to this restaurant this afternoon for brunch after a recommendation from my cousin who lives in the area. Called ahead to make a reservation but they told me they weren't currently accepting them. When we arrived there wasn't too long of a wait and we were seated in like 20 minutes. Our server was really attentive and nice. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and it was delicious. The menu said it was priced at market value and it ended up being ~$18.99. It was delicious and definitely worth it. Additionally the restaurant is in a really great area if you want to walk around and do a little sightseeing after your meal. read more

Great service, reliable Maryland classics for dinner. My partner loved the shell fish boil.

I am an avid seafood lover, I've only been here once before for brunch and wasn't wooed by the place but yesterday definitely changed that. We had a girls day out here. I usually only eat fried oysters but for the first time I tried the Oysters Rockefeller which was Amazing, and I also had an oyster shooter that was pretty good as well. My cousin had the seafood skins, they were the best I've ever had. And my other cousin had the pan seared scallops which were absolutely mouthwatering. Everything was on point including the service. I will most definitely be back soon an the next time I'll try the clams casino! read more

We started out with 2 of each oysters and the Seafood Skins which were potato skins with shrimp, scallops & lump crab, cheddar cheese & sour cream. These were so good. I pretty much felt myself getting full after eating 1 seafood skin along with the oysters. There are 3 seafood skins but I decided to hold off on eating the others because I still wanted room for my main dish. My cocktail was the Kentucky Ginger which had Bulleit bourbon, fresh-squeezed lime and ginger beer which was refreshing. I then ordered Angels Envy on the rocks but they didn't have anymore, so I went with Basil Hayden. For the mains, we went with the Crab Cake Platter with Rice Pilaf and Mama's Mac and Cheese and the Combination Steamer which came with Clams, shrimp, mussels & oysters with corn on the cob, potatoes, onions, drawn butter & chipotle cocktail sauce. The potatoes were really good. One of the clams was closed and not edible. I was going to let them know but was told to leave it alone, so I did. The crab cake was good but I did not care for the mac and cheese nor the rice pilaf. The rice pilaf was dry and cold so I replaced it with spinach. The spinach was really good and seasoned just right. They had a special for pork belly and scallops so we ordered some and those were really, really good, put the emphasis on really and good. If I wasn't trying to save room for dessert, I could have gone for another order of those. For dessert I went with the creme brulee which was good and served cold. I personally prefer my creme brulee warm. I know, I know, its traditionally served cold but I like what I like (insert shoulder shrug). All that to say, for it to be cold, it was delicious. read more

Mommas is a typical crowed, narrow, canton bar filled with 30-40 somethings who are unable to let go of their college years. With that said, you can dine upstairs to get away from the douchery. And they have some stand outs on their mostly seafood menu. The three items that I would draw your attention to are as follows: a) Beer Mussels; truly amazing broth with shrimp and sausage. I de-shell everything the eat this like soup (disclaimer: I don't like mussels and I still order this every time I eat here). b) Cream of Crab soup; this is a top contender for Baltimore's best cream of Crab, just the right spice and topped with a wholesoft shell crab (warning: this soup thick and filling, it will ruin your appetite). c) Seafood Club; a great twist on the club sandwich with shrimp salad and crab cakes. read more

Amazing fries, great Bloody Mary.. the oyster po boy was perfectly cooked but lacked some much needed tangy and spicy flavor. Its just that the oysters didn't need quite so much sweet creamy cole slaw. Made it hard to eat and masked the flavor of the breading. Overall good but I'd order it with cocktail sauce e next time and put the cole slaw on the side read more

The crab cakes will blow your nads off! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Yum! Yum! Being from out of town, I searched Yelp for a good seafood place in Baltimore, and we decided to go to Mama's! It was well worth it. We sat upstairs, and the room was so historic yet cute. We had a great server, and the food was even better. I'll def go back the next time we're in town! read more

Of course you can stay at the inner harbor for seafood, but I wanted to try something different and get out of the major tourist hub area. The staff was great and we took a little table on the 2nd floor in the corner, with a view over the postage stamp size park. It had some traditional, kind of quirky decor like a Navy recruitment poster. We were provided with a cheese and cracker platter for a complimentary appetizer, which I greatly appreciated because I was starving but the soup at other tables look like too much for me if I also wanted a seafood entree. The soups looked amazing though. I decided to be basic and boring and go with the crab cakes. They were fantastic! Probably some of the best I've ever had and with very little filler. The mac and cheese side was also great, it was old-school style with some breadcrumbs on top. I was a little jealous of my boyfriend's dish, the combination steamer, with various shellfish and delicious seasoning. I may have poked a bit off his plate too. Street parking was also easy, which is much appreciated in a large city. We were able to park just a half block away. read more

Cute little area of Canton. They have a bunch of pubs/bars in a little area of the park. The setting is a pub like but the food is amazing!! Space is smaller than it looks from the the outside. We were welcomed by a long line of guests along a narrow entrance...greeted by hostess with a clipboard who was super nice.... We sat upstairs and the food was yummy!!! Ordered the Lobster hash and eggs and for the table we got a appetizer steamers....seafood in Baltimore is sooooo good!! Portions were bigger than u expect and prices were reasonable... Bloody Mary is good too but MD loves their old bay :) Overall very yummy!!!! read more

If I could eat the mussels with chorizo and the crab dip daily, I'd probably be happy but also die early. So delicious. They are crazy busy though. If you want to sit, eat, and take your time enjoying your food, come for lunch or any day other than Th/Fri/Sat. read more

We have two strangers to thank for guiding us here. My husband and I went to a winery outside of Baltimore and we're clearly pretty wasted and craving seafood. Two women at the winery's parking lot, who had also tipped back a few, chatted it up with us and we followed them back for a drink. They gave the greatest gift of all coming to this city: the recommendation to go to Mama's. This weekend was probably our 5th time and we always leave wanting to come back already. Our favorite bowl of mussels is easily the Cajun butter (had two to myself today) although we also love the Old Bay and wine and herbs. Make sure you ask for extra bread to sop up all the butter and spices! The soft shell crab with pilaf and fried green tomatoes special was also exceptionally humbling. Who cooks like this?! The chefs need a hug. Also, the bartenders hustle like crazy and their service never ever lacks. We like to dine at the bar most of the time, where the action is. Have an orange John Daly crush and order two dozen oysters. I can't name every dish we've had here but it's worth trying yourself. The servers and bartenders are attentive and nothing here has ever been less than an ideal experience. Trade the big name inner harbor spectacles and just come to Mama's next time. read more

Awesome setting, and great times with great friends were had. I must say, though, oysters are just straight-up nasty. I don't care how fresh they are. Hah. A neat part of town surrounds Mama's. We got a few drinks beforehand then enjoyed (well, the rest of our party did) some oysters at Mama's, plus dinner. Mac n' cheeses were scarfed, fish was paired with chips in our bellies, and a sickeningly stuffed party of four left Mama's feelin' good. read more

Tried this place for the first time. I'm a sucker for seafood because it's not as fresh where I live. I loved it. Lots of variety, but everything seemed so fresh. I'm not a connoisseur so who knows, but everything was absolutely delicious. When we're up here again, we'll be back here. read more

Great seafood and plenty to share. Visited on a Friday night and was promptly seated. Service was attentive from the start. Water was always filled. Manager came by to greet and see how we were doing. We had the beer mussels, md crab soup, blue point oysters, and crabcakes. Everything was great. Oysters were fresh. Crabcakes were as good as faidleys but more creamy in texture. The beer mussels were amazing. Get it! The restaurant ambiance is very Canton but more upscale but not too fancy, appropriate for the casually dressed or whatever you want. From the looks of the dinning room, everyone seemed to be enjoying the food and service. I would definitely bring guests from out of town here to enjoy some bmore seafood :) read more

Call me a Mama's girl--because I'll never love another the way I love you, Mama's. I'll go so far to say I'm considering relocating to Baltimore primarily for the perk of being within closer proximity to Mama's. It's that magnificent! Ambiance - 5 stars. Standard-laid-back-nothing-to-prove-chill Baltimore scene. Situated on a sweet little corner of Canton Square - this place is vivacious. Food - 6 stars. I said it. This is the best food seafood I've ever tasted. I sampled a little of everything. The Pan Seared Scallops take the cake. You can order them as an entrée or as an appetizer. As an appetizer, you receive three plump scallops atop a potato cake and creamed spinach. You'll be licking the plate clean, I did. In the words of my dining companion, these scallops are 'better than kisses'. The Seafood Skins are LOADED with scallops, crabmeat and entire pieces of shrimp, covered in melted cheddar and sour cream. The oysters rock here. I ordered 3 Conways, and 3 of whatever else the server recommended. A little lemon juice, cocktail sauce, hot sauce, Old Bay and sea salt and these suckers were money. The Mac n' Cheese is too good to pass up. Beverages - 4 stars. Don't know whether to classify oyster shooters as food or bev, regardless I'm led to believe the Blue on Blue was conceived specifically for my consumption. Cocktail sauce, an oyster and 4 oz. of PBR in a tumbler, shazzam. Just remember to mix before shooting; otherwise you get a nice think chaser of straight up cocktail sauce. And PBR on tap is an automatic 4 star review in the beverage department for me, I'm partial. Service - 4 stars. Service was good, no complaints, nothing extraordinary. I was too caught up in the masterpiece of a meal to really pay much attention to the service. read more
