The down home cooking is a staple here. Its good food on most days, but I'm not sure what happened on this visit. I love the hospitality and attentiveness of the staff as it gives you the small time feel. I'll be back again for another try. read more

Came upon this place on an auction pickup and was glad I did! This place was as down home and country as a place gets and served its purpose for me of giving me a little local flavor, something that I like to do when I go to outlying towns to pick up things I have bought at auctions. The service was fast and friendly. I had my drink order taken in less that 30 seconds of sitting down. My order was taken within 5 seconds of me laying my menu on the table. Attentive? I think so! I ordered southern for this meal...Chicken Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Green Beans , and Fried Okra. It was all really tasty and good. The dinner rolls it came with were freshly baked and ridiculously good. I would definitely repeat this place on future visits to Forney. read more

This is a fun, small town diner. Food is good at a very fair price. Parking is easy.

Came in for "linner" at around 2:30pm. We ordered meatloaf, fried chicken, greens, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and a couple desserts. The food was well seasoned and delicious. "I think that the restaurant was very good" according to my 13 year old nephew. He went on to write: "The roasted beef was very good. The service was great! Our waiter Cody was very friendly. Also the outside of the restaurant looked very classy, but not as cool as the inside of the restaurant." In my opinion: Great southern food. Great ambiance. A very fun atmosphere in this quaint diner. I had chicken fried steak for the first time. I don't know still why it's "chicken fried" as there is no chicken in it. Who cares? It was delicious! Daughter ordered the chicken fried chicken. Also yummy! As we're the mashed potatoes, corn bread, turnip and fried okra sides. Oh so good. Food was cold, went on a Sunday. The staff was nice though. My friend and i both ordered the same entree and both our sides were cold.

Particularly disappointed in this place. Food is usually really good. Chicken fried steak was obviously left in the fryer way too long. The meet was so overcooked it has shriveled up in to nothing more than shoe leather. The white gravy had been on the steam table so long it was almost brown. I love this place; decor is so entertaining. As a mom, I just felt very seen. The entire diner is a vibe, feels like I stepped into a movie with a diner scene where every one knows each other and is super friendly in a small town with regulars... except that's the REALITY. Such a gem in downtown Forney, we've decided to make it a regular tradition to have a family brunch date at Mamas. Chicken tenders are FIRE. Service was amazing. read more

We really liked this restaurant, when we first started going there about a year ago. We ate there occasionally, but I noticed the service started going downhill a little bit. When the Covid hit, of course it was closed. When they started serving customers again, we tried supporting local businesses. About two weeks ago, we stopped in for breakfast. Three hours later, after eating there, my stomach started to hurt. By the middle of the night, I was throwing up, and I did not stop throwing up for two days. I went to the doctor, and they ruled out anything flu related. I believe I had food poisoning from this place, because I had nothing in the morning but a bowl of cereal. I'm really surprised and upset. This was a terrible time for myself. I know food poisoning is difficult to prove, but this is what happened. This is the most expensive meal I've had in a long time with the doctor bill. I wish I never eaten there. read more

I want to like this place, I really do. It's in a great location, has plenty of seating and the people who work there are very nice. But the food is just bland every time we go. We had lunch Sunday after church and immediately remembered why we rarely eat here. I'm not a person that ever adds extra salt to my food. I don't really care for salt. So many times, food tastes too salty to me the way it's made in restaurants. But not here. The food is noticeably bland. I had chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and fried okra. The mashed potatoes and chicken were super bland and needed some salt. The gravy was OK. The fried okra was also OK. My kids had pancakes and those were fine but my husband's meal was bland as well. They had a good crowd after church and we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table so I guess other people like their food, but I just always find it a little disappointing. read more

This place is not Service Animal friendly. I have a small Service Animal that is certified. he normally stays tethered to me. because of the heat, I do not force him to stay in the pouch, but hold him instead. I do keep my prescription and my pouch with me in the car, but his patch is still on his harness. They wanted me to put him on the floor. I explained that he doesn't go on the floor. (he's 5lbs) and he needed to stay near my chest. He is trained at restaurants to either lay beside me or lay across my lap while we are there. Management said it was a health code thing (which doesn't apply to service animals.) and that he would have to sit on the floor or go outside. We were hungry, and I didn't feel like arguing, so we ordered to go. We eat out often, and while some places have been skeptical at first, we have had managers and wait staff comment on our way out at how surprised they were that he really did what he was supposed to do. We will continue to frequent those restaurants and hope that this restaurants' management educates themselves a little more. read more

Major disappointment. Let's begin at 5 stars and ask -What's all the hype about this place being good? Three visits : first one lost a star for a surly waitress But decent sandwich and salad at lunch. Second visit was dinner. Mediocre at best-lost another star for food quality. Veg plate was cold and bland. Fries weren't cooked through. Third visit was the worst. Lost star 3- food: Again, cold veg plate with RAW bacon in the green beans. Cold fried okra. And really bland tasteless food. Squash casserole was a very unappetizing weird fake yellow colored mush. CF steak was just okay. Ordered onion rings that weren't finished cooking. - doughy mush in center and definitely bagged frozen rings. Not good. Lost fourth star on Service: Asked waitress and her response was "oh, they just put this out so don't know why it's cold or undercooked" and walked away! Said raw uncooked bacon is how they make it. Offered no substitute. Drink order was wrong. She had two tables so why such lack of concern? But then, All the staff seems grumpy. Not at all consistent with all their "mamaisms" displayed on walls, especially since the rude, lack of customer service attitude was pervasive. They weren't busy at any of the three times we went , so there's no excuse. Won't be back. Truly, if you cook for yourself at all, you'll wish you had stayed home. This was no better than canned green beans, frozen okra, fries and onion rings, canned gravy slop. My mama would have said " this place is four cents short of a nickel" read more

Mama's Daughters' is right on-point if you are looking for "diner" type service, ambiance, and food. I'm normally not into that, but there is a certain comfort to be found in a waitress who calls you "honey" (even if she doesn't actually say it--it feels like she did!) and a piece of diner pie for dessert when you're missing home.
