Another satisfying meal for a Meat Eater without the obvious. It took us a minute to find the place; it's tucked between a Nail Spa and a Thai joint. When you walk in, I found out that you just grab a Table if it's open, which we were in luck. It took a minute for a Server to come over, I was a little confused on how the process worked. I think it was 1 Server, a Food Runner, & a Busser for Saturday Night. Once someone did come over, things started rolling. Water...BAM! Apps...BAM! Entrees...BAM! The food was really awesome. My favorite, the Basil Eggplant by far. A lightly sweet sauce with a great colourful assortment of Eggplant, Basil, Carrots, Onions, Red & Green Peppers. Don't get me wrong, the Dumplings were a nice Starter, but to me it was a tease for Dinner. Love the original Mamak, so of course we wanted to try this vegan offshoot. Everything looked delicious. We started w the beef satay and yucca fries. Kids loved both. For entree we went with the olive fried rice (amazing), curry chicken (lots of spice and super flavorful), black pepper shrimp (the EMPHAsis is on pepper, really good), and lotus root w black fungi (delicious). Kids had sweet and sour chicken (devoured) and the other had chicken lo mein. The day I came to the Mamak Vegan Kitchen, I thought I was going to regular Mamak, which I already love. And then surprise! Vegan Kitchen! My partner is vegetarian so I love finding spots where we can both eat, plus Malaysian food is pretty conducive to being vegan-ified. Their vegan laksa noodle soup is amazing, with flavorful soft tofu, and a whole bunch of different kinds of vegetables--eggplant, okra, carrot, and others. And of course all swimming in that delicious rich laksa soup. This is a must-try for vegans who generally would have a harder time finding things to eat at regular Mamak. read more

I'll start by saying I'm not vegan. I'm just trying to cut back on meat and dairy. After a week or so of the same old vegetables, I decided to try this place for a change. I ordered takeout and had the Mamak fried rice, dried string beans and pan fried dumplings. All were great and seasoned well. I'm not a fan of tofu or eggplant really, but I was able to eat them in the rice. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't have to add any additional sauce, seasoning or anything. This was my first time trying Mamak vegan kitchen. The inside is bright and pretty. I ordered several things to try. By far my fav was the sambal okra. It was well seasoned with a hint of spice. So yummy. I also ordered the chow kway teo noodles. These were just okay. They didn't really have much depth of flavor. Wouldn't order again. I ordered the roti naan. The roti was super flaky. The curry dipping sauce was thin but delicious. Finally, I ordered the lemak curry. It was nice but again underwhelming on flavor. My friend had the "beef" randang, which she said was way too spicy. If this is around the corner from you, it's worth a try. It's not for me, so I probably won't be back. read more

Lovely little Vegan spot. Nestled in a random business plaza, this cute place is clean and service is friendly. I am new to the whole vegan thing, but was down to give it a go. Tried a few appetizers to get started and was pleasantly rewarded. Yuca fries had an awesomely familiar texture and flavor, good option for the vegan virgin. Curry pie was a neat little empinada and we highly recommend that as well. Kept glacing at the "Beyond meat" options but decided to venture out of the comfort zone to immerse myself in the full experience, and so glad I did. Main food came out fresh and hot to the touch (almost nuclear) but the colors were so vibrant and the food looked so succulent it looked like it came straight out of a magazine ad. All the veggies were of great quality and the exotic flavoring was refreshing. Note: be ready for the heat of the temperature AND the heat of the spice, but none of our dishes were salty. The "Ipoh Chow Ho Fun" was a hit! Everyone kept sampling. The Mamak fried rice is also really good and safe for those of us swimming in the shallow vegan pool. More daring, seasoned vegan officianatoes can enjoy some of the more extravagant coconut dishes. We wrapped it up with a slice of coconut cake to share, and that was just the right amount of denseness and sweetness. Pro Tip: get the Lychee drink! If you have a vegan loved one or visitor, bring them here and they will swoon. Taking one star away because the in-house menu and the on-line menu were not aligned, but that is not going to stop me from going again! So this is my second time trying this place and it is disgusting!! I've never left a review like this! Is it vegan though? But the smell that has been lingering in that restaurant for weeks now!! I walked in last week and walked right out because of the smell. Today I bought something online and came to get it and I wanted to throw up! How could you sit in there and eat? This place is down the road from me. I passed it so many times, but always said no. When I want some good vegan Asian food, I'll drive a few miles up the road to Vegreen in Duluth. So this evening, my husband was craving some ramen noodles. I never really looked at Mamak's menu prior to going, but I love a surprise. **3.5 "okay it's vegan" stars** Love the OG Mamak, decided to try the vegan branch when getting dinner with a vegetarian friend. It was good! But I don't think I would go back again unless it's with a vegan/vegetarian friend. Maybe it's because I have a bias towards the original Mamak with its meat dishes, but something about these vegan substitutes didn't cut it for me. Here's the rundown on what we got: 1. Satay Tofu - I love love love satay skewers so I suggested getting them, and the vegetarian friend was learning towards the tofu. It was... alright. The tofu just didn't have the same energy as how grilled chicken or beef would taste. The tofu was lightly pan seared, it tasted like, and I think it would have been better if they fried it more (to get a crispier coat). The peanut sauce was mixed in, and that tasted fine. 2. Little Wok Lotus Root - This is a traditional wok fried dish that's hard to get wrong. I got my friends to try black fungi mushroom for the first time though, which was fun haha (definitely recommended!). Overall this light dish was cooked well and had a good assortment of vegetables - my only wish is that there was more lotus roots. 3. Lemak Curry - creamy curry sauce with large-cut pieces of braised tofu (yummyyy), eggplant, okra, and tomatoes. This was my favorite dish! The tofu and tomatoes were melt in your mouth, and the eggplant and okra brought in different textures. I really recommend this dish if you like curry! 4. Mango Chicken - tangy mango sauce with chicken substitute (it tasted soy-based) and actual mango pieces. The mango was on the sour side, which made this dish tangy. I liked it! The chicken tasted like your normal substitute chicken (someone tried to make this meat-like but it just tastes like a tough tofu kind of energy). I feel like this dish was overwhelming if you ate it at large quantities because of the startling sauce, though. Everything came with a pot of rice for us to share. Overall, I don't think this is a bad place for people with dietary restrictions to go to. There's a variety of food/options on the menu and the ambience is bright with fake plants hanging down white walls (pretty big contrast to the darker tones of the Mamak on BuHi, haha). Buttt I don't think I would ever pick this place over the original Mamak, if I had the choice. Nothing on the menu pops at you the way menu items at the other locations do and the meat substitutes weren't that impressive (in the way, for ex, impossible patties are). Like I mentioned before though, if I had a vegan/vegetarian friend, I would consider taking them here for the clean food and nice ambience. read more

Mamak is one of my favorite new finds in Atlanta for vegetarian Asian takeaway, and offers truly some of the best delivery dishes I have had in the area. Completely vegan, this spot offers a huge array of Malaysian and Chinese favorites that are a great vacation from the standard takeout options. We placed a big weekend delivery order and ate on it for days. We started with an obligatory order of the flaky roti naan served with the most flavorful potato curry dipping sauce. For our entrees, she tried the divinely crispy and tangy sesame tofu, which was thoughtfully served with sauce on the side to keep the tofu fresh (the sauce portion was huge, and we repurposed the leftovers later that week). Since we were doubling up, she also ordered the Chow Kway Teow, a hearty and delicious stir fried noodle with tofu. I went Malay, and ordered both kari sayur, a vegetable forward tofu curry with rice, and the curry laksa noodle soup. Kari Sayur is one of my all-time favorite dishes, and Mamak's version was phenomenal, but the curry laksa absolutely stole the show. Spicy, rich broth with a ton of fresh vegetables, lightly fried tofu, and chewy noodles, it was the perfect comforting takeout dish, even in the heat of summer. Now at the top of my delivery list, Mamak is the perfect option for superb and unique vegetarian takeaway with serious Malaysian flavors. read more

This is even better than normal mamak for the vegetarian. There are so many tofu and vegetable dishes to choose from and not having to worry that there's any meat in it. We had a curry and a noodle dish and they were both amazing. The knot downside was that we only got one small bowl of white rice with our curry and at mamak you get a whole container of rice.
