Looking for a vegan restaurant near Atlanta and came upon this place. Restaurant is casual and open space. The table we sat at had short black hairs all over it which was odd. I ordered the "shrimp" lo mein. The first bite all I could taste were sprouts. It had a disproportionate amount of noodles to sprouts and the bok choy was cut comically large so it rendered it difficult to eat. My sister ordered the sesame "chicken". It was grossly sweet with a strange after taste. Not only that but it was tough and chewy just like overcooked chicken but who wants that? Neither one of us finished our meals. I can see why some people may like this place but its definitely not for me. I have had better and I expected better. read more

The consensus in one of my vegan groups is Mamak's food is great. They are always raving about Mamak and since it's only 10 minutes from my office I decided to get some lunch from there today. Located in a small plaza off of Chamblee Rd in Tucker with sufficient parking. The decor of the restaurant was really nice and appears to be a nice place to sit down for a date night. I ordered sesame chicken spicy and asked for brown rice apparently they only make white rice which I don't eat. I then asked for a side of mixed vegetables instead of rice and I was told $12 but the lunch special is only $10 how does this make sense. I see $5 but $12 is beyond excessive. I also had the curry pie. They were yummy. While the food was delicious I doubt that I will return as the price I was being quoted for a side of mixed vegetables instead of rice was very suspect. read more

I have no choice but to give Mamak Vegan Kitchen 5 stars. I dined in by myself for lunch on a Friday. I arrived a few minutes after they opened; myself and another patron were the only ones there. I was promptly greeted and advised that I could sit wherever I wanted. Prior to selecting my seat, I used their nice clean restroom to wash my hands. As soon as I sat down, I was attended to immediately with a nice tall glass of water for the table or me lol. I order the curryflower and the chow kway teow which came out in a timely manner. I mean I was the only one ordering, so I guess that it would. Both were simply delicious! The cauliflower came in pretty large chunks and was accompanied with a white, creamy dipping sauce. The chow kway teow included bok choy, bean sprouts, carrots, noodles and tofu. I could've used maybe some soy sauce or sriracha, but I didn't want to feel the sense of coming off as offensive. We've gone to mamak 2 times in one week because of how delicious the food is! The first time we had the sweet and sour chicken with the combination fried rice. The second time we had the Mamak chicken with the combination rice and some noodles that were delicious. The service was amazing both times. We had plenty of questions which they answered without hesitation. The over ambiance of the place is so calm and cute! Great for pictures and just an overall amazing spot, wether you're going on a quick lunch or wanna make it a nice date night ! Both will be a great time! read more

So so so good. We ordered a ton of apps and shared entrees family style as well. I did not try one thing I didn't like. My favorite dish was the okra, but I'm a sucker for good okra. You really can't go wrong here. All vegan and all so good. Not to mention, for a vegan restaurant, I was glad to see alternatives are mostly soy based rather than nut based. Tons of fantastic alternative meat options and freaking amazing vegetable dishes. Service was good and was easy to split a bill amongst a big party. Good for meals with family or friends. Great vegan option for someone wanting to try out Malaysian cuisine without the meat. Everything on their menu is delicious. It is cutely decorated and quite spacious inside. I ordered the mango drink which I would highly recommend. I also ordered the chicken satay. It was the perfect combination of flavorful and chewy, which combined with their peanut sauce was beyond delicious. I wish they provided four skewers (they give 3). I also ordered the Lemak curry. Initially I was not a fan of having softer tofu in. a dish, but this curry changed my mind. The tofu is somewhat crisped on the outside but soft and flavorful inside. It absorbs all the flavor of the curry that is spiced (not spicy!) and the other vegetables (okra, eggplant, tomato) are similarly prepared. It is served with rice and quite delicious. Definitely my go to order even though I will eventually try some other "meat" dishes. I have not tried any of their desserts, though they look delicious. Parking is plentiful and free. read more

Unlike most diners, I suspect, this is not my first vegan Malaysian restaurant (I lived in Australia, where it's not unheard of). Malaysian cuisine trends towards high-fat comfort food; a lot of coconut cream, a lot of stir fries, with some interesting tropical ingredients, and a hint of Indian influence. This restaurant is apparently part of a complex with shared ownership, as when I entered, I was redirected to what was ostensibly the neighboring Vietnamese restaurant, and they gave me the vegan Malaysian menu and walked it over from their kitchen. Consolidation makes sense during the pandemic, I suppose. There's also a non-vegan Mamak nearby (though it does have good options I think), which is a bit confusing. Make sure you know where you're dining. When you think vegan and Asian, you're probably thinking soy, but there's a ton of variety here. I did get some tofu in my curry, but in addition I consumed such diverse ingredients as lotus root, peanuts, mushrooms, eggplant, and okra. Their tofu was very soft on the inside but slightly crisped on the outside, but the okra that came with the curry was the tastiest thing I ate. I almost wished I ordered a dish of just okra, which they had, but I wanted variety. The lemak curry looked reddish, but was mild in flavor. In addition to my curry, my soup, and a generous portion of rice, I also had a butterfly pea tea. For those that have not had it, this is a flower that produces a very deep purple beverage when brewed, which has a vegetal taste. What makes it interesting is that it changes color when the pH changes, so the lemon on the side actually turns it pink. I spent more time pondering the menu than most places, as there were all sorts of appealing options based on vegetables, tofu, but you could even get Beyond Meat if you wanted it. And both restaurant spaces were spacious and clean, and I was well-served by several people who were too skinny to be eating this kind of indulgent cuisine on a regular basis. I made some considerable effort to try this restaurant, and it certainly ranks in the upper echelon of vegetarian places I've dined at. read more

So happy to have this nice vegan spot nearby. Ordered a few things to try out and get this... THEY HAVE VEGAN SHRIMP! The shrimp was tasty. Not very fishy but good texture. Very happy with everything ordered. Ample parking outside and tables inside. Clean establishment. Came back on August 5 for a solo lunch. I was determined to order something different from the dishes I already know I love. I was intrigued by the possibility of the wok-tossed dry string beans with sausage. I am of Cantonese descent and my mom would make this dish frequently, flavored with pork and black bean sauce. The beans are always the star, not the pork, which is used as an accent. I ordered this dish, but wanted to order another, because I think of this dish as a side dish rather than an entree. So I also chose the Black Pepper Chicken, and it was excellent and as pictured on the website. In addition to the fresh peppers and jicama, they added small florets of cauliflower which blended perfectly with the dish and the sauce. After experiencing Mamak Vegan, I sometimes wonder whether it wouldn't be more cost efficient for me just to order takeout than to try to cook vegan Asian dishes at home. I consider myself a very good cook but, ironically enough, I am afraid of woks with oil on high heat (I'm trying to get over it). The prices at Mamak are very reasonable and the portions are enormous. I have a healthy appetite for a woman my size, but the string beans and chicken dish will end up making three meals for me. The service is always prompt and friendly, and the food comes out quickly. One of my biggest fears is that this restaurant won't survive long term because not a lot of people know about it. I was pleasantly surprised how good a vegetarian restaurant can be. In fact I like this better than the other location where they serve meat. The meat substitutes used had great texture and flavor. Perception is everything and the perception I had when coming in and leaving this business, is that my kind of people are not welcome here. We were hardly greeted when others were. When we left, no one said goodbye, but they went out their way to say bye to others, and we were stared at the entire time we were there. I would love to give them five stars! Service was amazing, when I called in the order they were totally with it and repeated order back plus my husband said they were very friendly when he picked up order. Really very good! Speaking as a true carnivore, I can tell you that the food was so good, I didn't miss the chicken or the shrimp or the pork or the beef. I had the braised tofu - they switched out for me the pea pods and carrots for baby bok choy. It was really tasty. And I had the Singapore rice noodles, which were just like regular Singapore rice noodles but with spicy grilled tofu. As Singapore rice noodles go, this was one of the best I've had. The food is really very good. It was well prepared, fresh, lighter sauces rather than the big, heavy, goopy ones. And you can't beat the prices. Mamak is one of my go-to restaurants on BuHi, so we decided to try the vegan location. We got a few different items to go for dinner: Curry pie - They are fried potatoes curry pies. The pictures on the website made them look like small pies, but the ones we had were more similar to small empanadas. These were quite forgettable. Yuca fries - They come with a dipping sauce, it tasted a bit like ranch. But I ended dipping the fries in the leftover curry sauce of the roti naan dish. Roti naan - I love roti naan dishes in general, but everytime I don't think it is worth it with the amount we get (this is a global comment). The experience is the same here. The curry was great, and the flatbread was cripsy, even with it being a bit steamed due to being a to-go order. As expected, the bread-to-sauce ratio was off. But this was definitely not a sharable appetizer. Chow kway teow - This was a well-balanced noodle dish. Lemak curry - This is a dry curry with deep fried soft tofu, eggplant, okra, and tomatoes. The sauce is great to eat with rice. Now this might be an unfair comparison, but compared to the non-vegan Mamak, this would be a 3 stars experience flavor wise. The lunch also comes with a spring roll and rice. Although most reviewers talked a lot about enjoying the lemak curry, This dish just did not do it for me. It was ok, but no noodles and no rice came with this dish. For a curry dish, I was a bit surprised that rice was not accompanied. Such a cute little restaurant. I went for lunch and it was nice and quiet. The food came out fast and was delicious. I started with the roti! It was a potato curry. I enjoyed the hint of coconut milk in the curry. The fries were tasty as well. For entrees my friend ordered the curry chicken. I ordered Lemak Curry. I enjoyed my meal but I wouldn't order it again. A 100 Health Score is ALWAYS a Winner and a Great start!!! Mamak was SUPER clean, vibrant and well lit, the staff was Uber pleasant and helpful and the food BANGS!!! Though I had a strong eye on the Pineapple Fried Rice while looking at the online menu, before my visit, I ultimately ended up with Yucca Fries, Lemak Curry, Basil Tofu and the Roti Naan. Just extrapolating things out a bit further, I don't think that you could go wrong with any/many of the menu items, but I was sublimely pleased with my choices. (The aioli dipping sauce that came with the Yucca Fries was heaven - I dipped EVERYTHING in it!!!) There's pretty ample parking available in the lot and I think as long as you're an adventurous or open-minded Carnivore/Omnivore, you'd be just as pleased dining here as anybody living a Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle. read more

Saturday, 6/5/2021 - Went to "Mamak Vegan Restaurant" for the first time upon a friend's recommendation. This little restaurant was very cute. Upon arrival, there was a leafy green wall. Inside was tables and chairs and a long corridor to the bathroom. I guess you can call it a corridor. But there tables along both sides of each wall to the bathroom. Inside decor was very cute! There were a bunch of little succulents on the wall as decorations. It was just too cute. Pros: 1) waitress and bus lady was very nice. Waitress was very professional. 2) waitress gave us time to look over the menu and even told us the updated menu with more food choices was on their website.
