First visit. Ahhhmazing Singapore Rice Noodles. A hefty serving but easy to finish it all. The noodles were so light and flavorful and fresh. Loved the crisp veg within and the tofu was great (said meat-eater me). MSG Aware. I have no tolerance for MSG and in too many restaurants when you request no MSG they think that it's only if they take a container of MSG and add it to the food, meanwhile they ignore the ingredient labels on the seasoning mixes that they use and you still end up with a plate of food containing MSG. Mamak knows what MSG is and makes sure that either they will warn you about its content or will make sure that it's not put into your food. Just discovered this place as I was passing through Atlanta and WOW it's so so good! Been there twice now and looking forward to going again. So far I've tried the "chicken" curry, chow fun, black pepper "chicken", curry pie, and lychee soda. Everything was delicious. My friend who isn't vegan tried the sesame chicken and was blown away that it wasn't real chicken. It's very nice looking inside the restaurant as well. Mamak's all-vegan menu is a delight. For the sesame tofu, they fry ailken tofu so it's extremely creamy (and lava-hot when it comes out) and covered in delicious glaze. This restaurant is hard to find as it is located in a small plaza in between a nail shop and a Thai restaurant. The inside is beautiful and clean. The service is outstanding. The waiter is kind and friendly. We were greeted and seated immediately. It took around 10 minutes to order but only 2 to 3 minutes for the foods to arrive. We ordered Braised Tofu, Lemak Curry, and Tofu Satay (appetizer). The Lemak curry is our favorite because it has that spicy kick. The braised tofu (sorry to say) is typical- soft tofu with vegetables. The Tofu Satay is delicious and crunchy. The sauce is creamy and makes you want more. I have been to this restaurant twice because I have enjoyed it so much. The food was great. I honestly can't tell if it's meat or not. My husband on the other hand knew that the meat was not meat. Likely because it's still new and the grand opening is this weekend. Service was friendly and informative. My supper was delicious! Great new spot for vegetarians to explore in ATL on Buford Hwy. the curry pie was delicious but didn't come with a sauce option. It's closest to a potato samosa and paired well with the extra Mayo sauce. We ordered lemuk curry (tofu, okra,eggplant) and basil eggplant. Both dishes come with a generous helping of white rice. We liked lemuk curry (coconut based, creamy) better as the basil eggplant was on the sweeter side for us. They have tons of other options that would be great with a group to try them all out. Conveniently located in a new building on Chamblee-Tucker, just off of Buford Hwy - there is plenty of parking. The space itself is large and inviting, the staff helpful and attentive. I ordered two dishes - olive fried rice and at the staff's suggestion (for a curry) - the Kari Sayur. The fried rice was very good - full of veggies and tofu. The olives give it a nice bit of salt (not too much). I would bo back just for this dish. The curry on the other hand was VERY oily and not what I expected. The flavor was just ok - but the oil killed the dish. Yes, there are plenty of good veggies under the puddle, but the execution was less than appetizing. I just checked because I wanted to order and it is now $22.50!!!!!!!!!!! I am flabbergasted!! And I am pretty sure the portion size has not changed. $22.50???? Wow. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. I am very disappointed because I truly love their Beyond Rendang. $22.50 is not reasonable at all - the Beyond Meat mince cost max $9.99 at the grocery store. I will make my own! This place is phenomenal. I come here probably once a month because I crave it at least that often. It's refreshing to eat at a place so health conscious and yet so flavorful. Those often don't go hand in hand. It's also nice to have the non-vegan options right next door. Highlights: I get the Beef" Rendang most times that I come here. Very flavorful. The sauce soaks into rice wonderfully. Basil Eggplant, Curry Laksa, and Curry Cauliflower are all great veggie dishes. The Lemak Curry is a staple. The curry sauce flavor impressively soaks into even the harder vegetables like bell peppers. I don't know how they do it. I've had a lot of curries where the sauce is good but the vegetables are bland. Not an issue here! The Sambal Okra is great. Healthy and tasty. Just like everything else here. A lot of my friends really love the Olive Fried Rice. It's pretty good! Room for improvement: Not a huge fan of the Ancient Meat. I find it to be way too sweet. However, the menu claims it is a favorite. So it might be best to give it a try once to make your own decision. read more

This was my first time going to a completely vegan restaurant, and it was such a good experience! While I eat meat, I will occasionally enjoy meatless meals and meat substitutes. This was also my first experience with Malaysian food, so overall did not know what to expect. I went with my sister and we ordered the roti for an appetizer and she got the mango shrimp and I got the mamak chicken. The total and tax came to about $40. Everything we ordered was amazing, though I would say my favorite item was the roti and the potato curry that came with it. It was so good and will definitely be ordered again the next time I go. The mango shrimp had such an amazing mango curry with "shrimp" that had a similar texture and physical appearance of shrimp. I ordered the mamak chicken and it was good, the curry was perfectly sweet and spicy. Both entree orders came with a side of sticky rice. We went for lunch and there was enough leftovers for each of us to have a serving of dinner of each order. We went on a Monday during lunch time and there was only one other couple so service was really quick. The inside of the restaurant was super cute and cozy. I will definitely be back!! read more

If you are in Atlanta area and not been here then you are missing something great in life. We had take out from here few times and it is consistent in being great and blow my mind. The one dish I order without fail is Beyond Rendang. That curry with meat substitute and potatoes is out of the world. Not sure how they cook their potatoes but they are fully cooked without loosing their form and soaked up with curry sauce. Next thing you must try is Lemak Curry. Every Friday I take my dad out for a lunchtime dining adventure. We're frequently found at some little mom and pop place on Buford Highway, trying a dish we've never had; or ordering a long-time fave. We've often gone to Mamak Malaysian Restaurant for curries and noodles, and I was excited that their sister restaurant, Mamak Vegan, had recently opened. My dad, not so much...when I originally told him about it, his question was "Do they have fish?" Nope. So, with a tiny bit of trepidation, I picked him up today; and told him we were going veg. I opened the door to the venue, and he wheeled his "roller" inside; then took a lap around the super-cute confines with a big smile on his face. Light, airy, flowery, minimalist - it's really pretty. We settled into a table, and perused the menu. I had done my homework, and knew what we would order: roti with curry sauce, Impossible satay (with Impossible meat, for a faux-carnivorous experience), the coconut curry soup, and the chow kway teow - wok-fried noodles in a dark soy-chili sauce. My dad loves to try regional beverages, so I ordered him a sparkling hibiscus tea. The roti was more of a pancake or pita than the flaky type we're accustomed to, but it was nice with the curry dip. The satay had a yummy sauce - my dad's observation, "If you didn't know (it's vegan), you wouldn't know!". The soup was outstanding - a little spicy, and perfect for a cold, drab day. Although we were warned that the chow kway had a kick, we found it to be pretty mild; but so delicious! I've been to Malaysia and Singapore, where the street vendors offer up wok noodles on every corner; and I was immediately transported back to those days...sigh...(FYI, this is a big plate of noodles. We both had plenty, and my dad has a serving or two of leftovers.) The hibiscus tea? Meh. Although it is very pretty. Bottom line: One gray day, I will stop in for a couple of orders of the coconut curry soup. I will heat it up with some noodles, and a handful of fresh shrimp, and serve it to guests for dinner. And they will be delighted. My dad's take? He scanned the decent lunch crowd, just weeks after the place opened, and exclaimed, "I understand why it's popular - with food like this, you don't feel like you're missing anything at all!'
