Excellent, authentic Chinese food in suburban Pennsylvania! I was here for lunch last week. I loved the food. I ordered the vegetarian mapo tofu lunch special plus an order of bok choy. Both were delicious and generously portioned. The mapo tofu was super spicy just how I like it. I didn't even need to add any hot sauce. The bok choy was fresh and perfectly cooked. I ate half of my meal and had enough leftover for a full and very enjoyable dinner. The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly. I would have given 5 stars but I have a major pet peeve with restaurants that serve water out of plastic cups and hot soup out of plastic bowls with plastic spoons. Once plastic items are washed in hot water or in a dishwasher, phthalates and chemicals such as BPA in the item leech out. So if you drink water from a washed plastic cup or eat soup out of a plastic bowl, endocrine-disrupting (hormone altering) chemicals will leech into your food or drink - and you can ingest it. Yuck. If you don't believe me, google "BPA and washing plastic." Hopefully this restaurant and others will stop serving food and drink in plastic cups and bowls!!! read more

When Han Dynasty In Exton went downhill with their food quality, left a big hole for good Chinese food. Well not anymore! Mama Wong not only fills the hole but raises the bar. Authentic Chinese food, don't ask for fortune cookies :) (seriously they don't carry it). We had Dan Dan Noodles, Dry Pepper Chicken Wings and Boiled Fish w/ Chili Sauce. The food was AMAZING! The noodles were just perfect. I've never had such chicken wings - the chili powder based rub on it was made perfect with crispy garlic slices. The Fish w/ Chili Sauce was awesome too! This place is absolutely delicious! Visited here several times while working in Exton and everything we tried was flavorful and fresh. The prices are very reasonable and it's a great place to share dishes to be able to try multiple things! Fantastic. Came for the soup dumplings which were delicious. We tried some of the chili dumpling that our table mates got, and those were sweet and spicy and perfect. Every entree that was ordered was exceptional in quality. I was very impressed with the manager guiding us through our first time at the restaurant. It was magical. The warm citron tea is a must! I love this place. Don't expect standard Chinese/American fast food Chinese. The cost is higher because the quality is higher. It does take a while but it is worth it. I have not tried it all ( yet) but I have to. Be disappointed. The portions are reasonable, not huge, with interesting textures and combinations. Sliced beef was good, portion was more than enough for 2 people. Chicken wings were really tasty, good combination of spices and not too spicy, just a little greasy for me, maybe try to drain the oil a little longer after fried. The snow pea veggies were fresh and tender, also a little greasy for me. Soup dumplings, the dough was a little thick which I think it's pretty standard, although their dough tasted different compared to other soup dumplings restaurants in the area, not as chewy and I could taste the aroma of the yeast. The dumplings were delicious, the meat was fresh, and you can tell the dumplings were handmade and freshly steamed. I like the taste of their food, maybe a little greasy. Been coming here for a long time all the way from west Chester. 30 min to pickup takeout is long for us so that should tell you a bit how much we liked the food. However last two times we are here have been different, and not in a good way. We thought takeout and 30 mins to get home was the issue but we ate there yesterday and still not the same. Price: it is on the pricier side. I disagree. I think the flavor of the broth is good, I am a fan of the sour/pickled veggies, but the quality of the beef was borderline in that they used beef with tough sinewy strands of almost ligamentous tissue that you just can't chew through. A higher quality beef without the tough chewy parts would have made it much better. Furthermore the enoki mushrooms didn't really go with the dish. There are plenty of other better things on the menu to go with than this dish. A19 Dry pepper chicken wings Outstanding. Really well made, fried to perfection, seasoned strongly. Perhaps too strongly. We ordered the MILD version and I'd rate what we got more of a MEDIUM / borderline HOT. But it was perfectly fried, the skin to the wings was this absolutely perfect crunchiness, and the balance of seasoning and spices was just right, albeit too hot for my palate. N1 Chengdu dan dan noodle Craig Laban recommended this. I think he hasn't had enough good dan dan noodles. They were alright. I think there are more exciting things to explore on the menu. V7 Pea leaves w garlic. This is a simple dish but they executed it nearly perfectly. First you have to start with tender pea leaves -- tough fibrous pea leaves automatically kill the dish and will tire your masseters. Their pea leaves were tender and easy to chew. No taste. My coworkers and I decided to try this restaurant since it is new. We ordered the lunch specials chicken and broccoli as well as sesame chicken. We all said the food had little to no taste which was very disappointing. They also "ran out" of broccoli even though it was only an hour after opening, so they gave my coworker "mixed vegetables" which was mostly just cabbage. I am a lover of Chinese food, however there has not been any local restaurant that has even came close to being a decent compromise. Upon reading the reviews I was anxious to have a taste and I was not disappointed. I came in for take out and the place is beautifully decorated. A women treated me with a smiling face and a genuine smile. She was very nice and helped me through the menu and made sure to give me the best service they had to offer. She was very helpful and even brought me out a complimentary cup of tea while I waited. I tried all the most popular staples. Pork soup dumplings were BURSTING with flavor! The Dan Dan noodles also had amazing flavor and the noodles a different density than a typical restaurant. Of course I got General Taos and it was so fresh and the sauce familiar but yet had its own distinctive flavors. NONE of the food tasted like the run of the mill, low grade, Chinese food that is available in the area. All the tastes were familiar but tasted so much richer in quality and was made so thoughtfully. I most definitely will be returning and I'd love to sit in. read more

Just had a HORRIBLE experience at Mama Wong's with my coworkers. First when we showed up with 9 when half the restaurant was empty they tried to force us in the party room with a minimum bill of $150... then when we refused and were going to leave they offered us two round tables. After we sat at the tables they did not bring any water to the group for 5 mins then when they did they brought 1 small pitcher and 2 glasses for 9 people. 5 mins later another single glass was brought out then about 5 mins later the rest of the glasses (including one with a giant crack in it) were brought out... food was brought out one at a time with incomplete orders, one of our group waited for 10mins after everyone else had MOST of their food until we got the manager to get her food and the rice and soups that were ordered and not delivered. Woman in group who ordered soup received a soup ladle to eat with, a literal silver soup ladle... No additional water fill ups no checking on food nothing in terms of good service. The BEST part however came when the check was due. bills were requested to be individual and were handed out. awesome. rest of group paid with cards while I paid my $11.89 bill with a $20. While everyone else was signing I waited for my change which never came. Oh well only a almost 100% tip and it is $8 no big deal... as we walk out the door the person at the desk asks who paid with cash i say i did and tell him to keep the change. He then screams at me as i walk out the door creating a HUGE scene when he screamed "THIS IS THEFT IT IS NOT ENOUGH" i walk back in no so calmly and inform him that i paid with a $20 and i never received my change... the exact amount that he is now waving at me stating that i am stealing from them. I told them to keep the change again and left the building. We have lived around the corner from Mama Wong's and never realized we had such a gem in our neighborhood. We tried it based on a recommendation. The online ordering platform made ordering super simple. They were very courteous and helpful at pickup. The food was amazing! I honestly have not had such flavorful Asian food of any kind in this area. We got mostly spicy dishes but had an array of foods (seafood, pork, fish and chicken) each one was very good. My favorite was the Dry Fried Pork with Peppers and Bamboo. It has so much flavor but watch out or ask for it cooked mild if you don't like spicy foods. I highly recommended this restaurant! read more
