With the wait being 2 hours for takeout I expected somewhat good quality and tasty food. Needless to say I will not be a repeat customer.

We just got back from dinner at Mama Wong's. We have had a lot of Chinese food and this is definitely one of the best. We had the wings, the soup dumplings, fried rice, general tso's chicken, and the beef hot pot (which is called something else at Mama Wong's, but I can't remember what exactly). Everything was really good. We definitely want to come back and try the Peking duck. They were really busy, but the food came out pretty quickly. The service was a bit disorganized, but the servers were great. They were all really pleasant. Even though they were busy, we didn't feel like neglected. I definitely would recommend coming to Mama Wong's for dinner. read more

I'm so hesitant to leave this review because the food was amazing. Diners need to know though that the restaurant is closed for indoor dining right now and only offering takeout. However, when you order on their website, you are given an estimated time. When you show up you have to stand outside. A staff member will periodically come to the door and ask what number you are. My full wait time yesterday was an hour and 40 minutes. I couldn't wait in my car because I was afraid he would come with my food and I wouldn't be there. It was freezing and everyone waiting outside was miserable. Even if they could just get their estimated time more accurate, that would be better. Or maybe they could do curbside only so that customers can stay in their head at cars. read more

I just ate my first meal from Mama Wong and am overall, very delighted. I'm happy there is a new Chinese place close by and decided to order some take-out as I work from home during the day. I had the Chicken and Broccoli lunch special. It was really good. The sauce could have had a little more flavor, but overall it was good. We were going to order one of the lobster dishes, but the server said they had no lobster tonight. Saturday and the place was very busy so you'd think they would have lobster. Anyway, the Cucumber salad was plentiful and tasty. The Spring Rolls were ok, but kind of mushy on the inside and different from most places. We ordered the Zhangzou (sp) rice which came with a lot of shrimp and was plenty for 3 people. The shrimp with walnuts was very good and the smoked duck was definitely smoky. We took a lot of food home with us as they portions are very generous. i was getting over a stomach bug so I would go back again when I can try some of the spicy dishes. This place is AMAZING (worthy of every single cap)!!!! They have 4 chefs from Szechuan, Canton, Beijing (?) and Shanghai (?), who specialize in their own regional cuisine. Each dish is perfectly and authentically done. Ingredients are of the very highest quality. Even friends who regularly get sick after eating out, reported that the food here did not make them sick. Best Chinese food in the area (yes even compared to Philly), and comparable to New York! I found this place shortly before Imperial Inn in Philadelphia closed. I was so ornery and upset at the news, but I have to admit having better quality dim sum (although slightly less variety), only a 15 minute drive away with no Chinatown parking games, really assuaged my hurt feelings. Furthermore, Christine, the manager, is very helpful and kind, as is all of her staff, making this transition much easier. All of the food, from their vegetarian offerings, to the spicy Szechuan dishes, to their dim sum is beyond delicious. Some must tries are: 1. Soup dumplings - we (friends and I) actually believe these are better than at the famed Dim Sum Gardens. It has less ginger for those of us (ahem strange Chinese - me) overwhelming the taste. Usually their dipping sauce is a very special vinegar (more potent than regular American vinegar) and shavings of ginger, but one does not taste the ginger as much, as it has been pickled in the vinegar. 2. Scallion Pancake - small but so deliciously fried. One of the best I have tasted anywhere. 3. Twice Fried Pork Belly - It was better than the other (will remain unnamed) famous Szechuan restaurant in the area. Frankly, all the Szechuan dishes are better here, which is interesting because they handle at least 4 styles of Chinese food v. the other restaurant's one. 4. Mongolian Beef - I introduced 2 new friends to this dish. Everyone ate all of it every time. It is so fragrant and full of umami. I wish I could describe it better, but seriously, just have it. 5. Vegetable Fried Rice - I have a Vegetarian friend, who allows me to filch bites off her plate, so I know even the vegetarian dishes here are superior. The fried rice was very fragrant and delicious. 6. Garlic Eggplant - Holy Hannah!!!! We ate this dish first and I had cravings for a week for it. This is a delicious vegetarian dish. 7. Garlic Pea Shoots - My vegetarian friend is an extremely picky eater (sorry!, you know you are!) and even she loved all the dishes she tasted here. Including the pea shoots. As she puts it "most leafy green cooked vegetables smell and taste like butt (sorry), but this is actually good". Hold the presses folks! She actually liked it! Ms. Picky Pants herself! 8. Citron Honey Tea - warm tea, slightly sweet, citrusy deliciousness. Even if a dish was not mentioned, it is probably extremely good. These are just the ones I remember the names of that stuck out in my mind. We, collectively, have not had a single bad dish here. The "worse" dish was significantly above average, just did not make it to a level of 8.5/10! I am a little sad that now I will probably need reservations to eat here now, however, I would be a very, very awful and selfish person to not share this place with everyone. Stop laughing! Try it and see that I am correct. I ate here about 4 times before their official opening, and regularly at least once a week. So, come enjoy, help me make this place a success! The decor is nice and warm. Dry chicken wings and veggie egg roll were great apps. My husband ordered the Mongolian beef dish and I ordered the lamb, cumin and dried onion dish. The beef in both of these dishes did not have the consistency of real beef at all. It was soft, chewy, slimy. I barely touched mine and when I told the server that I wasn't interested in a to-go box, she/he didn't even bother to ask why. Made us both wonder what type of "meat" it really was. We tried Mama Wong for the first time yesterday. I called in to order for pickup but it seems they were only taking orders online. So I ordered it online and drove to pick it up. When we reached there and told the person the name of the person for pickup, they kept insisting I had to give the order #. So I called my friend who ordered the food to give the order #. Once I got the info and gave him the order #, he asked me the name on the order ‍. I asked for hot chilli in oil and they charged us additional for two small cups of hot chilli in oil. Not a big deal but no other Chinese restaurant we ordered from ever charged extra for that. The food was pretty decent. We had ordered Shrimp fried rice, pork w dry peppers, chicken dry pot and kung pao chicken. Looks like they don't put soy sauce on their fried rice so it looked different than what I was expecting but the taste was pretty good. Also, for some reason, their kung pao chicken was sweet. The food quantity was good and overall the food was good and not too oily. I would probably order again from here!! Would give them 3.5 stars (4 as yelp doesn't allow me to give .5 stars) read more

When my mom & I first walked in the first thing she said was "wow this is beautiful." We were the only customers. The place was very clean looking, even sitting by the windows at the booth. We ordered the crystal shrimp dumplings as an app, passion fruit tea & sprite to drink, and my mom got shrimp lo mein while I got drunken duck w. white rice. The sprite was strong (assuming from the face my mom made), which is a good thing! The passion fruit tea was nice but wasn't as cold as I would've liked (I did ask for extra ice but it's fine), not sure if there were free refills on it. The crystal shrimp dumplings were yummy! Been dying to try and find some xiao long bao but I don't eat pork so this was a good second. My mom liked the shrimp lo mein but thinks it gave her (don't tell her I'm telling), I think it might've been all that soy sauce she put in it ‍ I liked my drunken duck! It did give a weird soapy after taste and I'm not sure if that's normal but I tried to power through it. It also had bones but that wasn't a problem for me. And true to its word it was spicy, my lips were burning I loved it! (Cause not everyone's spicy is spicy). We only saw one staff member, the one who seated us (he also took our orders and cleared our tables and everything whole still working at the front). He then sat 2 ladies later in the evening and as we were leaving he was doing a take out order (and something else with another customer but idk what). Amazing! But also rough that he had to have so much on his plate. Him doing all of that and he still gave wonderful service. Tip well people!! All in all I would recommend. This place was decent, clean, but nothing special. I ordered most of the dim sum items trying to recreate the experience of an actual dim sum place in the city. Each dumpling was relatively good. however, the prices were clearly higher. The portion size was not really worth the price. I always love my mama! She's my favorite girl! (Philly classic) Mama wongs is the Chinese food the Chester county area has needed for a long time. Nice decor, super friendly staff and the food is great. The Dan Dan noodles are some of the best my boyfriend and I have had. GreaT chicken and broccoli. Good brown rice (as good as it can be). Best authentic Chinese food in the Downingtown/Exton area. It's as good as Han Dynasty but cheaper. Great lunch specials. They have a Sichuan chef, Cantonese chef and a dim sum chef. Stick to those choices and you'll be good. If you are looking for American Chinese, this may not be the place for you (as some of the bad reviews have dealt with that issue). I haven't been disappointed the 3 times I've been there. read more

You can find a good Chinese restaurant easily but it's not easy to find the best. Indeed this is one of the best Chinese places I have tried. Food is amazing. Their Lo mein nodules dish is my favorite among other places with its high quality. They have really nice sea food pots and dishes with fried Tofu. It's now one of my favorite spots and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes Chinese or Asian food. read more

Went just a few days ago (3/16/19) and it was truly the absolute best Chinese Food I've ever had. We got the soup dumplings, special fried rice, and shrimp lo mein. The portions are really big (we had leftovers to take home) and the service is super friendly and polite. But the food- oh, the food. It was so so good. It's not as Americanized as most Chinese food. The flavors were amazing. The fried rice had a really nice subtle flavor which we loved. The lo mein was so good and not drowned in sauce the way some other places do. The soup dumplings, though. A lot of folks dip them in sauce but these don't even need it. Super flavorful and while they were cooked well, they weren't so scalding hot that you had to worry about burning your tongue. We also had a pot of tea as well, which was delicious. We left full but not sick or sleepy feeling like you do sometimes after Chinese food. We will absolutely be back; it's our new favorite place! read more

Really a disappointing experience from start to finish. Some of the worst service we have received in some time. We arrived at 8:15. They advertise that their hours run to 9:30. We were rushed throughout the meal to order and leave. At one point the owner came to our table, and said we had to order by 9:00 or we could not get food. Food was passable but the waiter seemed annoyed to describe or answer any questions regarding the menu. The building is in a tacky shopping center near a nail salon. The tables are lit with bright bare light bulbs which made the meal feel like an interrogation. The restaurant floors were covered with dirty napkins and spilled food. The bathrooms were dirty with no paper towels. The restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday night. This place can't last long. read more

I visited Mama Wong's for the first time last week. I am a vegetarian and am quite put off by strong smells in most Chinese restaurants I have visited. However, my experience here was very pleasant - I had a variety of vegetarian dishes to choose from, and when the menu said spicy, the food was flavorful and had just the right amount of spice (not tongue burning hot or really mildly spicy) I highly recommend this place and am planning a couple more visits with my friends already. read more

Absolutely outstanding! I am very picky when it comes to my Chinese food, and Mama Wong's did not disappoint. I've been looking for a truly delicious Chinese restaurant ever since a very well known, nationally ranked restaurant in my area when downhill. I've tried Philly and all the 'burbs for literally years. It was a fluke that I stumbled onto Mama Wong's due to work in the local area. The food is OUTSTANDING. The dry pepper wings are amazing - spicy, crispy, flavorful.... my latest visit on Saturday night included the pepper wings as an appetizer, orange beef, sizzling beef ribs with black pepper, and boiled beef in chili sauce. (Yes. I'm clearly an unapologetic carnivore.) The boiled beef in chili sauce used many of the same dry rub flavors as the chicken wings appetizer, but it was so good I was happy to see that. The orange beef was perfectly crispy, sauce the right texture and flavor....perfection. And the sizzling beef ribs with black pepper was an "impulse order: I will undoubtedly make again. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome - that they are glad you chose their restaurant. (Btw, it's BYOB - which makes it an even more excellent value.) I am so happy to have found truly good Chinese in the Phila area again. I drive @ 20 - 25 minutes on the turnpike to get there - it's worth every minute. Ordered extra egg on the congee +3.00 and scallion pancake. Pancake was so oily and burnt it was inedible. Also there was no extra egg with the congee. I could tell they are trying to save costs and give the bare minimum. Seriously don't see why the hype. I usually don't leave reviews, but this place is totally awesome! We tried Dan Dan Noodles, soup dumplings, beef tripe in chili sauce, and griddle lamb with mushrooms and bamboo. Everything was perfect! Food quality is way better than anything around, including Han's Dinasty. I was excited to try Dan Dan noodles and was not disappointed. Place is neat and spacious.
