I used to go there before COVID and then got pissed off. Finally I remember to put the review here. Worst service ever!! It was in the afternoon on a Weekend when they were not busy at all, and it took them 40 minutes to get us water. The dishes are overpriced, and took sooooo long to get to our table. I had picked up take out. It was on time and delicious! The Shanghai Soup Pork Dumplings were excellent as well as the Dan Dan Noodles. We've tried many, perhaps almost every chinese restaurant in the area, especially ones with a sichuan swing, and I can confidently say THIS one is our family's new favorite. The contrast between their unassuming location and their fantastic food is almost comical, so be sure not to accidentally speed by. If you're a lover of that signature sichuan spice, this is definitely the restaurant you want. The only other place in the area that really compares is Han Dynasty, which we used to frequent quite often; but not anymore. The food is simply tastier, CLEANER, and the people far nicer at Mama Wong. And if you're not a fan of spicy food, don't worry. There's plenty of non spicy choices on the menu too, all worth trying if you want something more than your local americanized chinese takeout lo mein and pepper steak. As a personal recommendation, if you've never had sichuan food before try starting with their mapo tofu first before moving on to their dry pepper and dry pot dishes. read more

This is the nicest Chinese restaurant I've been to in a long time. The food is subtle and fresh. Spicy is very spicy but extremely flavorful. The decor is modern and lovely. It's great to have a local restaurant with new flavors and Chinese dishes. I can't wait to go again and try more. Visited here on Oct 17 but to my surprise- it didn't have a yelp page set up so I submitted it as a restaurant...The steamed soup buns were excellent, as good as the ones I ate in Asia - the tripe with chili sauce was also excellent with Szechuan peppercorns gave that numbing sensation- the stir fried kidney as good. I previously lived in Shanghai and loved the food there. Finding authentic Chinese food in The Philly area isn't so easy. I have been to two of the highly rated Chinese restaurants mentioned on CNNs best Chinese restaurants. I can tell you that Mama Wong is much better. I took a group of 11 co workers there for a sampling dinner. Absolutely delicious, service was awesome. The smoked duck was one of the most delicious items I have ever eaten. The spicy fish, and the pork ribs reminded me of the food in Shanghai. The cook is from Szechuan province, so if you want your food very spicy, he can prepare that for you. Lunch there is very reasonable. Mama Wong is a BYOB. read more

This is the second time I visited Mama Wong. The place was crowded and noisy. It's a BYO which is great and there is a large number of menu items. The wait time was 30 minutes for a table and it took 20 minutes to have a server stop for the first pass. We asked for tea and water. 10 minutes later the tea showed up with no water. It became apparent the service was in a disorganized free fall. Patrons were complaining. My order showed up and my wife's came 20 minutes later with me almost finished. The rice showed up last. The food was good but the service was the worst I seen in a long time. The servers were all kind and gracious and apologetic. The owner explained that some dishes with like ingredients are done together and other take more time. Blah blah. This coordination is not the patrons problem. I had dinner here the other night while in Exton and really liked it. I never thought I'd see soup dumplings anywhere outside of the city and they were fantastic. The Peking Duck was delicious! The pork belly entree was the highlight of the meal and something I'm already craving again, just a few days later. The staff is really friendly and if you're lucky enough to have "Mama Wong" herself swing by your table, even better. Absolutely wonderful for "real" Chinese. After 30 years on the West Coast, I am both spoiled and picky, and I'm happy on all counts with Mama Wong. The dumplings were all fresh, and wonderful, and the Ma Po tofu, while it may be too hot for many tastes, was lip numbing (from the Szechuan peppercorns) and fiery, as it almost never is out here in the suburban options. They don't have their full menu yet, but are in the "soft opening" stages, and I can't wait to see what that is like. Wow! What a horrible experience! After a long day of moving we came to Mama Wongs for a nice, relaxing, dinner. First, it was singles night and horrible karaoke was being sung so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. We ordered 3 appetizers and meals for 5. It took a very long time to get our tea, then about 60 seconds later, my dish was served. No appetizers, just one meal! I didn't want to eat in front of my friends so I sent it back and asked them to hold it until after we got our appetizers and everyone had meals. They took it away, and we waited. Again we asked about our food, asked for refills on tea, and waited again. Asked for tea refills and finally got 2 of our appetizers. Asked about where the 3rd one was, and again asked for tea refills. Finally, we got our 3rd appetizer and asked for tea again. Eventually, everyone got their meals, except me. One person didn't get what he ordered, another was so spicy it couldn't be eaten and I waited for dish to be returned. At long last, I got my dish but still no one had received rice or the damned tea refills we had asked for about 12 times. I finally asked to speak with the manager who came out and apologized for being so busy but never apologized for all the screwups. She didn't offer to take the tea off the bill or give a free dessert or anything that might help to make us feel better about this waste of our lives or appetites. Needless to say, we won't be returning to Mama Wong's. It was hands down, our worst restaurant experience ever! read more

Had very bad experience. Asked for two cups of water and waited for 10 minutes to be served. The female owner had very bad and cold attitude to Chinese, but provided very good services to Americans, including checking ins, cleaning dishes, helping packing leftover. If you are Chinese, pls avoid this place- the Chinese owner is discriminating. Dishes are expensive with minimal to none service. read more

We ordered a delivery. It was right on time, it was delicious. It was exactly, how we like it. Dumplings were good, General Tao chicken was amazing. Veggie Lo Mein surprised us with wonderful flavors in a simple dish. I would definitely recommend Mama Wong restaurant to everyone, who prefer mild to medium spices. We didn't order anything spicy, so cannot tell about those dishes. read more
