We loved the atmosphere -- the warm lighting combined with the natural beach daylight coming through the windows created a peaceful ambiance. 2. As a table of three, we were comfortably able to share 2 appetizers, 3 main courses, and 2 desserts. The Fish Tacos, Wagyu Beef Burger (medium rare with added blue cheese), and Pistachio Tres Leches dessert stood out the most. The grilled octopus and tuna tartare were also excellent. The octopus was incredibly tender -- not chewy or overcooked at all. The tartare was fresh and well-balanced with avocado, although we did have to ask for an extra bowl of chips since it originally came with only five small chips. 3. Our waiter was also very nice, attentive, and did a great job throughout the meal. 4. One thing I really liked was the location. We were able to walk on the beach and then literally cross the street to get to the restaurant, which made the experience even better. I'd definitely recommend it to people visiting the beach area. 5. Yes, I would absolutely come back. This is a perfect restaurant for both celebrations and casual nights out!

Food was very good, selection is very safe options, nothing too wild or experimental I've seen. I personally picked the sea bass fish tacos for $24 and it was very good! Consider this is Malibu and their rent must be astronomical. Also the pistachios tres leche dessert cake was perfect to end the meal and share with. With half dozen oysters to share, two cocktails, two taco dinners, plus one dessert to share you're looking at around $150+ after tax and nice deserving tip. So it's not spot if you're on "budget" but consider the location and the view. You're in Malibu! They also have valet but i came around 5pm when most people are leaving the beach anyways so street parking was "relatively" easy for me. I will recommend and come back to when I'm in the area.

They went out of their way to accommodate our needs to make sure our guests have a great experience. All the best things: - The house is beautifully decorated. Mary is a talented interior designer with an elegant taste in furniture. The house has many WOW elements. You have to be there to feel the amazingness. - Mary and Will are extremely kind and responsible. Our party rental person arrived the evening before without notice and Will handled everything for us. - The house faces the ocean. - It's intimate and private. After putting up the canopies, the place looks even better than before. My family dropped their jaw after when they arrived. - Mary and Will are capable to plan your wedding of any budget. They will make sure you don't miss any details. - They have a list of vendors and very knowledgeable. - The rate is very reasonable for a beach house wedding. (Resource: I researched all beach houses in So-Cal for a month.) Seriously, please go and check it out. They are the best thing that happened to our wedding.

Incredible location that you have to see to believe/appreciate. The view is a 10 and the house is first class. I believe they limit the amount of events so consider yourselves lucky if you can get this place. I have seen quite a few locations in the area and this place is a gem.

The view is breathtaking and you can hear the soft sound of the waves in the background. PICTURES: The bridal party took pictures on the beach with the guests behind them looking over the balcony. I'm sure the bride and groom also got some gorgeous wedding photos out there too. Note if you are in the bridal party to come prepared with shoes you don't mind getting sand in. I noticed the men brought sneakers and the girls were barefoot. WHAT TO WEAR I was unsure what to wear to a beach wedding. The wedding I attended went from day to night. I wore a pink cocktail dress and that was perfect. Everyone at the wedding I attended wore colored clothing. I would stay away from black. And heels are fine because you are on a patio, not the actual beach. I recommend some nice open toe shoes with heels. I suggest wearing sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses (for a daytime wedding) to protect against the sun. I also suggest bringing a sweater as it can get chilly by the beach and also in the reception hall when they put on the air conditioning. Just note that there isn't really a place to store extra stuff except in the bridal room so pack lightly. RECEPTION The reception is inside in an intimate room with beautiful white tables, chandeliers, and a beautiful white draped backdrop with lights. The venue is small and intimate. It feels like being in someone's private home in Malibu. You have the place all to yourself. LOCATION This venue is deep into Malibu. If you are coming from the Westside of Los Angeles you will pass Pepperdine and Zuma Beach to get here. OTHER This place got an award from "2018 Best of Weddings" award from The Knot. The venue works best for smaller weddings. The one I attended had approximately 50 people and that was the perfect size for this venue.

After spending several weeks searching through all the venues that charge $15,000 just to step in the door, we found Rev. Fred Pierson. He performed our beach ceremony, and owns the Malibu Phoenix Retreat just up the hill where we did our reception. For $20 a head to rent the Retreat (a private ranch-style home with a pool), you can't beat the price or the level of kind, professional service the Rev. offered. Rev. Fred was all the things you hope for in both an officiant and venue owner--organized, friendly, and entertaining with the guests, cool and collected whenever things got a little crazy, and laid-back and straightforward when it came down to final payments. To have the venue be the least stressful part of the day is a blessing. Plenty of parking. Rev. Fred recommended local vendors and handled calls to the Fire Marshall so we could have our beloved fire dancers (yay). Everyone had a great time, and several guests even want to use the Malibu Phoenix Retreat now for their own events. Highly recommended.

Fred Pierson and his daughter Jenna were amazing to work with! They answered any and all questions and they made themselves available for all the times we wanted to stop by the Ranch (which was a lot!) The Pierson's are very hands on and truly knowledgeable about weddings, and extremely honest. Paul and I could not have asked for better guidance and support! The Malibu Phoenix Retreat is located in the Malibu Canyons. Being from Hawaii I originally wanted to have my ceremony on the sand at Westward beach and have my ceremony on Malibu Phoenix retreat grounds. Though Westward beach ceremonies and receptions at the MP Retreats has been done before (Fred would be more than happy to talk to you about logistics), my wedding was very DIY, and my husband and I decided it would be a lot easier for us not to have to coordinate our 175 guests. We decided to do a beach reveal before the ceremony and took pictures with our bridal party at the beach. We had our ceremony and reception at the Ranch and could not be more pleased! Our family and friends were raving about the location! Hidden in the mountains, and the lush gardens and trees make for a beautiful setting. Our theme: "Where the mountains meet our Beach!" A little cheesy, but we decided to have a beach themed wedding in the mountains! We had tons of shell décor and the Pierson's were gracious to let me have my wish come true, which was to stand on sand for the ceremony! Fred and Jenna are super cool people and they're really accommodating for whatever your vision is, and will help you do whatever it takes to make your wedding day special! My husband and I wanted a taco cart and Fred Pierson made a great recommendation for catering, El Gringo taco cart known as El Guac! Amazing! They allowed us to have a tabletop assembly line s'mores bar in addition to our cupcakes, and they allowed me to bring in my own home-brewed beer. If you would like to have top-notch service, the freedom of vendors so make your wedding cost-friendly, unique and special set in a beautiful serene location, the Malibu Phoenix Retreat is my recommendation for you!

It was a gorgeous wedding, and the venue was wonderful. I can't speak to the planning part or anything (though I know Bret and FeiFei liked working with both the site coordinator Cathy and the owners, Jill and Sparky--I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the Avesta Diaries on this page, but she and her damage are history), but from where I was sitting, the place seemed ideal. The ceremony, cocktail hour, and seated reception all took place at Rancho Del Cielo, in different parts of the scenic grounds. There were about a hundred of us in attendance, and we fit perfectly--there was plenty of room to party, but it felt warm and intimate, too. The views were marvelous before and after sundown, well worth the trek to Malibu (though the drive up seemed long and tricky enough that I was grateful the bride and groom hired shuttles). The decor was on point, charming and well suited to an al fresco California wedding. I had a lovely time at Rancho Del Cielo, and would highly recommend it if you're looking to get hitched in Malibu. The rooms are serviceable, mostly clean, with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Also many have decks or patios. However if you are looking for a three-star accommodation, this is not it. The owners have i obviously put some work into upgrading the motel, but it is still rough around the edges. The pool is fine but small and the pool furniture was not adequate for your group. There is a strange large side yard with some old padded chairs, but it is an under utilized space. The rooms were trying hard but still could use fresh paint. The TV is Roku only when it would be super easy to add broadcast TV, so we could have watched the Oscars. I booked a super rate ($150) on a secondary pre-pay website but friends paid significantly more --$100-$150 -- for the same size room.
