DO NOT USE THEM! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! My tenant's electricity was out, and I found Malco on Yelp. I appreciated that they got me a same day appointment, and the front desk was very nice. What got me angry was how the Malco tech charged me close to $500 for doing literally nothing. The Malco tech named Andrew called me after being in the home a few mins, and said he wasn't able to fix the problem because there was a lock that only the City of Austin could unlock. Coincidentally, the City of Austin tech was on- site fixing another unit's electricity, and he ended up turning my unit's electricity on also. The Malco tech's response for the nearly $500 charge: I spent time driving to the home, spent time walking up 5 flights of stairs because elevators were inoperable at that time, and I spent time talking to the City of Austin guy. He didn't do a single thing to the home, but said that was the fees set by management. I've been a homeowner and landlord for 20 years, live in the Bay Area where services and labor are expensive, and I've been charged at most $175 for a visit charge. Malco didn't physically do anything to fix the problem, but apparently gas, some exercise up and down the stairs, and a quick conversation with City of Austin would cost you $500. Even my tenant whom I never met, said they shouldn't charge me anything because Malco was in the home for 10 mins and didn't do anything! I have never written a bad review, but I want to prevent others from making the same mistake I did by calling Malco. They are rude, unprofessional, and will try to rip you off! Malco recently replaced the electric service panel in my 70 year old home. I had been having intermittent power fluctuations which the city of Austin determined wasn't on the line. Randy was able to assess the problem and the work was scheduled. There is quite a bit of coordinating to be done with the city - power cut off and then inspection of the work. The city unfortunately fumbled on this, but Randy and his crew were professional and polite. The city finally came through and the work was done. Power! Be careful. These guys are a complete scam!!! Dont believe anything they say. Had an ice covered limb fall on my line to the house but we still had power to the house. Called them and they came out said they would have to rebuild everything and rattled off all these things I would have to have totaling over $7,000. They said if I signed the agreement right then, I would never be without power and they would have it done in one day. From what I was seeing I could not believe it was that expensive. I called a second company and they had a guy out this morning at 7am, (2-8-23). He looked at it and said it would be $1,500 and he could be done by noon. It is now 11:33am on the same day and he is all done and he called PEC and they already turned me on. Malco, Greg and Randy, will try to fool you with their "good ole boy" , "home town", "been here for ever" schpeel with self inflicted bad grammar & forced accents but dont be fooled. I certainly dont mind people making money, even slightly exploiting a crisis like this but to try to charge me over 500% than what it took is almost, if not, criminal. read more

Had a couple guys from Malco come out and install 3 ceiling fans, new switches, fix an arced outlet and install a recessed light on a 20ft ceiling above a stair case with just a single ladder (that was impressive). We had Malco Electric out to the house to replace a faulty breaker, install two dimmers, and troubleshoot an outdoor plug. The company is busy, but was able to get us on the schedule and it was well worth the wait. I forgot to write down the name of the electricians that came out (sorry). However, they both were professional, did a neat job and cleaned up afterward. We have a new grand baby and didn't want her to get exposed to the flu or any bugs...so both of the gentlemen wore mask while inside the house. We were contacted by Austin Energy to hire an electrician to work on our meter, as it wasn't working properly and we had 14 days to fix the issue. Malco Electric worked with us to quickly send electricians to our house and look at the issue. When it was discovered that Austin Energy would need to also be dispatched and power to our house turned off, Malco Electric showed up twice to wait for Austin Energy. Today, for the third day in a row, they showed up early, called Austin Energy, fixed the issue very quickly and we were pleasantly surprised when they did not charge us for the other two times their electricians came to wait and Austin Energy did not show. Our AC system broke down Friday night due to a fizzled circuit breaker. This began a search for "weekend emergency" electric repair. One company would charge well over 300. for diagnosis and overtime, not including the actual repair cost and time. Two other companies wrote back to ask about repair, but did not say if they would be available to replace the breakers. Meanwhile the indoor temperature climbed to temperatures unmanageable by fans. Early Saturday I recommenced searching for an electrician. Seeing the excellent reviews for Malco I called. Their phone message gave three numbers for emergency calls; identifying Jimmy as first to call. Jimmy answered immediately and offered to send an electrician on Saturday. Jimmy gave Chris our information, who called ahead saying he would arrive at our house within an hour. His work was efficient and thorough. He tested the AC and Furnace breakers and said that only the AC breaker needed replacement. Based on this seamless excellent service experience, I will call Malco to schedule an estimate appointment for future electric repairs. I called Malco Electric Friday June 28th and I'm still waiting for my call back. I spoke to I believe Randy Mallory's wife who said he was out of town and would call me on Monday. Never received a call back so I tried to call again. I spoke to a man who said they were very busy but he would pass my information along and still I have not had a call back. I called Malco for a quote because of the yelp reviews and they promise a call back in 12 hours. At least you could have returned my second call and said you were too busy to help me. I have a 40 year old home and was having multiple electrical problems throughout. I called 3 electric companies to diagnose the problem and give an estimate. One company didn't even come out to the house and quoted 7k to replace the outside and inside panels. The second company took pictures of the panels and quoted me 11k (with a veterans discount!) to replace both panels. Both companies stated that since the house is 40 years old, that will probably solve my problems. Malco Electric sent out Andrew and, even though they do charge a service fee to come out and do diagnostics, I was happy to pay someone to take the time and see what the problem might actually be. Andrew was patient with my multitude of questions, diagnosed the problem in a timely manner, solved the problem (total cost was less than $1,000) and also informed me that my exterior panel was less than 5 years old so there was no need to replace it. The original contractors (not Malco) had left several wiring issues unresolved that were pointed out in the inspection by the buyer. I called Jimmie, and he quickly reviewed the inspection report and gave me his best guess estimate. (All I could ask for since they had not even seen the property.)
