Winter freeze of Austin, Texas 2023. Rain was freezing, trees were splitting and coming down, no one around us had power besides those who had previously installed batteries for solar panels, gassed home generators, or manual portable generators...so attentively there I was attending to my gas/propane generator with a huge grin on my face. I did have to do a little review before I started things up cuz it was a while since the last outage, but I was expectantly successful with his easy setup. I dont think I could have messed it up if I tried! But I did mess up this time! Back track a little, we had a planned trip on Friday of the outage. Its the third day now but our family left the house. With the pressure of time unpowered(cuz I had to unplug), and trusting that the power would turn back on before our return I rushed thd process. 3 days later when we returned and learned it hadn't been restored but knew from neighbors that it was back on Saturday morning. I recently purchased a Tesla and out of no where my delivery date jumped up 3 weeks. So I quickly scrambled to get some quotes on installing the home charger. I was given quotes that ranged up in the 3.5k area that would have me scheduling a shut off with my local utility. I was super heart broken thinking this would take weeks to install. Then the clouds parted when I got a message back from James. He asked for some pictures of my breaker box and the area I wanted to install it. Then I was shocked when he gave me a quote of 650 and could be there Friday. He was on time and went over everything to confirm the details. He walked me through my breaker box and showed me the best place to put the charger. A couple hours later and I was testing it out. Absolutely flawless work. I then asked if he could give me a list of things I should/need to do as in maintenance or concerns etc. he walked me through details on how there are no more slots left on my breaker box but there isn't a need to upgrade it yet unless I wanted to put in a hot tub or a generator etc. I jotted down my notes and was grateful when he said to plan to do it in the cooler months so the outage doesn't suck to sit through. Working with James was great. When we moved into our home there was some DIY electrical work installed on the fence and now basically dangling from hangers. After getting the fence repaired we wanted the electrical to be reinstalled and done right. I reached out and after a quick conversation and some photos, he gave me a really fair quote. He wasn't the cheapest but in my experience I've rarely had a good experience with the cheapest. But on the other hand, he was a almost half as much as my most expensive quote. The work looked fantastic, he was knowledgeable and very friendly. We got to talking about Texas winters and generators and he let me pick his brain a bit. He ended up recommending a portable system that could keep most of the house running in the event of an extended blackout, most importantly our heating and critical appliances. I ordered the generator and had him back out to install the inlet. He got it all installed nicely and we did a dry run of getting the generator started and using the interlock to bypass main power. He took the time to make sure I understood the ins and outs of the system to keep me and my family safe. Gave me a few tips on how to prep if there is a freeze coming. Reese was great, I was bad. He got in touch with me via email. I'm terrible about looking through my email. I was the one that didn't provide the correct photos, but he kept after me. I didn't get back to him for quite a while. I told him "I was as sorry as the guy that kicked the Pope". He did a great job installing the generator. He was careful to explain it to me. Reese Electric recently helped out with a number of jobs at the house that I needed done as I'm looking to rent out the house in the future. I'm switching over to electric on appliances as much as possible this go round so I'm not so gas dependent long term as gas costs have been sky rocketing so it made sense to get it addressed. As far as work done they replaced bad outlets, including interior wall outlets and exterior GFCIs, installed 6 wired smoke detectors with ones I provided, relocated and updated an electric dryer circuit to allow for removal of a deck and also got in a 40 amp circuit for the stove area. He installed a breaker interlock and a 50 amp connection for the generator underneath our main panel. His work was super clean and his communication excellent. It's hard to find reliable contractors these days. James exceeded my expectations and was top notch professional. He came to my house twice. First was a consultation to check my Amp load before ordering parts. After ordering parts he set an install date and was there right on time.
