BEWARE!! I was extremely dissatisfied with this company!! They hire independent contractors as drivers and have no control over them whatsoever. On my move from Kailua to Kailua, I had the worst experience ever with the driver "MARCUS" that showed up although the two workers were OK. The driver of the truck was extremely rude and I had to ended up calling the police after he started threatening me with physical violence 3/4 way into the move. He had showed up in a bad mood in the very beginning stating that the dispatcher had told him it was a small job and that "this was the type of job he would usually walk away from". This guy Marcus was a total basket case just waiting to explode that looked the part and absolutely did not belong in a service industry position of any type!! Kept talking about his kickboxing skills and tough life he had lived in NYC and Japan. Lol. What a joke!! If you do decide to use this company which would not give me any satisfaction by even returning my phone calls or messages after the incident, do it at your own risk! It tells me the owner does not care either... *Also noticed that their better business bureau recommendation has been revoked!! read more

If no stars was an option, that be my rating. I have extra room that I let my extended family use to store their items and they hired these guys. My cousin showed them where the exyra room was. Johnny the Mover put a king size mattress in my bedroom doorway, my nephews toy car on my sofa as well as a big entertainment set in my kitchen (they made it no where near the extra room in the back of my house). I didn't know how to approach these guys since English isn't their first language so I let it go. Btw, they knocked over my dogs water bowl and didn't say anything about it either. Interestingly enough, my drive way smelled like weed right after they left (whatever, that part is not my business). Today, they came back. I simply told them I cleaned up the mess they left and rearranged my home so I need to show them where everything is. They got mad cause I used the word "mess". They left without doing a thing. I guess they can provide for their family & habit with their big ego. read more

Pros: Able to make an appt on short notice Cons: TARDINESS - They were an hour late, which I suppose normally would not be a big deal. However, we were moving into an apartment complex so we had to reserve the elevator for a specific timeframe and once the time is up, we have to hand the rights over to the next tenant that reserved it. So losing an entire hour from that is a huge deal. TOO MANY BREAKS - Without exaggeration, one of the three movers took at least 4 smoke breaks that I witnessed. Which means there might've been a dozen more that I wasn't able to catch. Those smoke breaks cost me about $50! Considering each break was about 5min times a dozen breaks, and they were charging us $140 per hour. NOT EFFICIENT - (which I suppose is related to the above complaint). For lack of a kinder word, they were very stupid in their method of moving stuff. No strategy or plan whatsover. Lots of standing around asking each other what to move next and where, etc. We used Kama'aina movers twice in the past and let me tell ya, those guys know what they're doing! (Btw, I am not affiliated with Kama'aina in any way and the only reason why we didn't use them this time was because they were booked during the week we needed to move). Anywho... TOO EXPENSIVE - The only large items were the bed, dining table and tv console. Otherwise enough boxes for a 2 bedroom apartment. It took over 5 hours which totaled approximately $700 (this doesn't include my assisting for an hour). Keep in mind we had everything packed and all moved to the living room ready to go. The last time we used Kama'aina we had the same large items plus a huge couch and fish tank and twice as much stuff filling a large 4 bedroom house. The same number of movers only took 3.5 hours and charged $120/hr. Sometimes you DON'T get what you paid for. CARELESS - One mover flat out DROPPED my bookcase upside down. Another box was marked with the standard "This side up..." and we found it the next day upside down. Our microwave is completely scratched up on one side. We found some new dings on our once beautiful dining table. The list goes on. read more

Not to thrill about them right now, after reading such great reviews we decided to hire them for our move. Well 2x in a row we set up a meeting for them to come and scope out the place to see roughly what needs to be done and both times no call no show, we ended up calling to see whats going on and the last time the worker said "oh traffic was bad so I just decided to turn around" like ummm you don't wanna call anyone to let them know? I altered my work schedule so that I could meet with them it would of been great to know in advance so I could of made it to work on time! Starting to believe I should find back up movers. read more

This is one of the worst moving companies to hire. They bitch moan and groan about having an elevator in the building - even though they were told this upfront - and then they pout and pull a work stoppage all while I am paying them $ 160.00 hourly. This is the same company as Malama Movers. I wouldn't hire either one of these companies. I paid them over $ 1,000 to move my items from Salt Lake Blvd. to the Aloha Stadium.. The other time I used them it cost me $ 585.00 to move from Kaonohi St. to Salt Lake blvd. (Same Address they picked me up from) read more

I give 2 stars instead of 1 because the men that were sent to do the job were kind. The owner, however, is a complete jerk and cussed me out over the phone over his OWN mistake. We used this company in the past and they got the job done- so when we were looking for a mover for a piano we had purchased, we called Johnny. I told him that we were looking to move a 1920s cast iron (VERY HEAVY) upright piano and the job would require at least 3, maybe 4 men. I was quoted $150/hr. The morning of the job I showed up and there were 2 men there with zero equipment. They told me that they couldn't do the job because the piano was too heavy. The moving men were very nice and apologetic. They knew I had said 3 men told me they were sorry that the owner had only sent 2. Johnny himself literally cussed me out over the phone. Told me his men couldn't do it and that he didn't give a sh*t what I did... find someone else. I couldn't believe his language on the phone. When I mentioned Yelp... he dropped a few F bombs and I ended up hanging up the phone right then and there. They profess to be a Christian company and even have Jesus' name on their trucks... but the absolutely filthy language and customer service definitely showed a different side. I will not use this company in the future. read more

One of the worst companies to go through. The guys were an hour late. No boxes, tape, etc. Me and my wife which is pregnant on her first tri-mester had to pack our shit with them to make sh*t happen. Johnny, the owner advised his co worker that I go buy my own boxes....WTF. What kind of moving company goes to a house to pack without boxes, tape, etc ???? Theres a miscommunication with the workers and the boss (Johnny)....DO NOT HAVE THESE GUYS MOVE YOUR BELONGINGS. PAY THE EXTRA MONEY TO GET STUFF DONE RIGHT. read more

After moving 4 times in the last 5 years and doing all the moves by myself I pretty much had it with the stress and exhaustion. I'm pretty bad at planning and got my day off before actually hiring the movers so I was in a pinch when the initial movers I was decided on didn't return my call. I ended up having to find a mover for a next day move and called about 8-10 companies and ended up settling on Johnny the Mover. Now I read the most recent yelp reviews and was a little nervous but I like to give companies the benefit of a doubt. Of the companies I called, they had the cheapest rate (heyyyy always looking for the most bang for my buck) and the fact they could do my last minute move request without hesitation was a winner for me. Johnny, I believe was the one who answered my call and let me know that they could do my move at 8:30AM; I would have 2 guys and a box truck for $110 an hour. On the day of the move I called at 8:30AM and was told that the guys were on the way, at 8:40AM, Chad and Fa' showed up with the truck and were ready to go. I already pre staged most of my boxes downstairs at my apartment and all they did was load it up and then they took care of my big items. I was asked if I wanted my mattress and couch wrapped up in plastic food wrap to which I replied "yes" and they took care of that before loading it in the truck, it took roughly 1 hour for them to pack my items from my studio sized apartment in an hour. When we arrived at my new apartment, unfortunately both loading zones were being used, I was worried they would keep the time running but they stopped the time and returned in about an hour to start bring all my items up, bringing up my items took a total of 1 hour. They were good on setting up my big items exactly where I wanted them and neatly stacking all my boxes and bins so I could get to them easily. At the end the total work time was a little over two hours but they charged me exactly $220, which was the said rate. I'm only knocking a star because I was unaware they would charge for wrapping my items so having my couch and mattress wrapped was an additional $30. Even though I would have still opted to have them wrapped, I would have liked if they told me there was an additional charge for that service. They also took a few things that I did not want for donation, which worked out well since I would have ended up tossing them to the curb and it was one less thing I had to worry about hauling out by myself. read more

We have moved five times in the past eleven years and two days ago we had our biggest move ever. Luckily for us, we hired a crew of four men from Johnny the Mover. They arrived on time and crew chief Damon greeted us with "Your stress is over and now we're going to make this your best moving experience ever!". They got right to work and it was amazing to watch these guys operate - they took the time to shrink wrap delicate furniture, worked as a team to pack the truck (keeping related items together), and were amazingly fast. You also don't expect movers to be friendly but every one of these guys were cordial and polite. They also took the time to ask key questions about certain items that required special care. We also requested that same day that they dump our trash (40+ large bags worth plus other odd items) and it was no problem (we originally were going to have another person collect it the following day so this saved us time). The move was a nine hour process but everything was packed and unpacked with precision, speed and care. To us, the pricing was reasonable and worth every penny. Johnny was accommodating in negotiating the total fee based on our needs. We've used other movers before but these guys were truly in a class all their own. We highly recommend Johnny the Mover to anyone - a surprisingly excellent experience! read more

Worst moving experience ever! Shameful to advertise themselves as a Christian company. Unprepared, unprofessional and charged double the quoted price. Refusing to address concerns regarding services, staff or damages to my goods and furniture. Now taking my concerns to the Better Business Bureau. Did due diligence checking license, BBB rating, reviews, etc. Don't be fooled by the hype - save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a mover! read more

Very unprofessional! They left items in the rain and when questioned why the workers got upset and left. Had to call another moving company

Responsive at short notice and efficient. Two movers were curtious and did a great job. Recommend.

I would like to thank Avery & his crew on moving me from Waimalu to Kalihi, they did such a wonderful job & so professional!! Moving is a stressful process & they made it so easy!!! I was very comfortable with them! they even went the extra mile by placing my carpet and even hooking up my TV for me and my Family! I would have no problem recommending Johnny the Movers to my friends & Family!! Once Again, Thank you Avery & Johnny the Mover Also known as Malama Moving Company!! read more

John helped us move from one apartment to another in the Ala Moana area. He came out to our place to give an estimate and I was glad that his rates were much more affordable than other well-rated movers on Yelp. He is a cool guy with a friendly and hard-working team. Here is what he did that has prompted me to give him a great rating: - they were punctual and sent me status updates the night before the move and several times on the day of the move - got all my belongings without any scratches or marks. in addition to boxes, bags and knick-knacks, they moved two tvs and several pieces of furniture that were dis-assembled, packed and assembled properly - our new hallway is really narrow and they had to maneuver our chaise quite a bit to get it in. They made a little mark on the hallway wall during this process which was quickly cleaned up by John and his team - They were all friendly and happy in spite of hot weather and the physical stress of their job - I had some problems with our packing tape on the morning of the move out day but he was nice enough to make a quick trip to pick up new tape before coming to our place. It's the little things! - We had some unforeseen delays during the move (i.e. loading zone for the truck ended up being much farther than our building) but John was kind enough to not charge us for the extra time We would definitely use John's services again. We have moved quite a few times but we have never felt this comfortable with movers before. Thank you John! read more

I would not recommend this company to anyone, it was recommended to me. I witnessed one of the movers falling and dropped my belongings, he didn't apologize but the head mover did. I then noticed once I got to my new place that a lot of my furniture had dings, scratches, broken corners and the corner of my Italian leather couch has a gouge out of it. I will never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. If you do, fully inspect ALL your belongings prior to them leaving and you signing the happy and no complaints on their sheet :( read more

Finding Yelp was a good thing, Now I can write a review on these guys. We used them back in June of 2015 to move short distance and used them just to move the larger household items, bed, furniture, TV's etc. They arrived pretty much on time, the guys were friendly but very very slow moving. In the end what should have taken about 2 1/2 hours took nearly 4 at a cost of over $450.00. After we discovered Damage to our Sofa, 60 inch TV and several smaller pieces of furniture. When I contacted the company about it and asked for a call back, no one ever called back despite leaving 3 messages. Don't use these guys.... read more

We needed to move heavy things from our garage up and down spiral stairs in our house. It was a tight fit and we were worried about damage to the stairs, walls, or the pieces being moved. Johnny sent 4 guys who did the work in 1.5 hours. Most movers would have tried to do this with 2 people and I don't think they could have done it without resting a piece on a banister, or scraping a wall as they shifted balance, etc. We were happy to pay the 2 hour minimum for fast, efficient, and well executed work. Thanks! read more

Johnny the mover are super helpful! I am happy with their efficiency. Their charger are reasonable since they sent more movers than the other moving company. Besides, more movers means means shorter moving time, I feel like it helps to save money in some sense. Also, they are friendly and caring that will always ask to see if you need extra. Highly recommended if you need to move and need helps. read more

Hands down - the best moving company ever. My roommates used them multiple times so I decided to give them a try. $120 a hour for 2 guys and a truck. I moved my couch, desk and grill from Kahala to Ewa Beach. These fellas completed the entire move in 1 hour !! My wallet was happy. They are very professional. They know that time is money so they hit the ground running. They showed up at my old place a little before the start time. I told them what I needed and BAM, it was a breeze. Let's face it, moving blows. Stuff gets damaged, it's unorganized, and stressful. Johnny the Mover was as good as it gets in my experience. I can't give them 5 stars because they forgot to bring the wardrobe box we requested and we had to spend another few hours moving clothes ourselves. They also caused minor damage to our couch, but were accountable and honest, which is more than I can say for many other companies. Their communication was great, they stayed true to their estimate, and were more reasonable than other big companies. Both the staff in the office and the guys came out to move us were a pleasure to deal with, very professional. I will use them again next time I need to move something. read more

I used Johnny The Movers recently to move out of an apartment into a POD storage unit. I had a great experience. Coordinating a big move between islands stressed me out (car, dog, house, job, etc) so I very much appreciated that Johnny The Movers called to confirm the appointment, called before they got there in the morning, and that I was able to call their cell phone when we were all driving to the storage location. The guys were very careful with our heavy, fragile items, which we had created flimsy custom boxes to protect. Next time I'll leave that part to the professionals. I'd highly recommend using Johnny the Movers. Thanks Joshua and Chad for getting us all shipped out. read more

I used this company twice before.. I had pretty good experience with them.. So I decided to use them again.. But this time was way over priced .. They basically just need to move all my furnitures to the storage .. This is a 2 bedroom small appointment, but only one bedroom has furniture.. My family already moved all the boxes there ( Thank goodness)... Some how, They took 4+ hours to move with 3 workers.. and the storage is only half mile away on the same Blvd.. Unbelievable!!!! they wanted to charge me $720!!!! I was pretty upset.. I asked for 3 workers because I was told it should take about 2 hours or 3 the max.. Even though the workers are friendly & Pleasant, But they don't seem too experienced.. I keep telling them it's taking too long.. Because it wasn't like that the last couple times.. Same amount of furnitures, 2 workers only.. Less time.. Something is wrong with this picture.. I am very disappointed!!! I I had recommended my friends & clients to them before.. BUT NO MORE!!! STAY AWAY FROM JOHNNY THE MOVER!!! read more

My move was done a couple of days ago and I was very unsatisfied with how long it took and with the lack of professionalism from the dispatcher. I was quoted $160 for 3 movers per hour which I was okay with in the beginning because it only took me and ONE other girl 2-3 hours to move my 1 bedroom apartment. The biggest items I had were 2 dressers, 2 small couches, and my queen sized mattress. I was not able to be on site when the movers were there. It took about almost 2 hours to move my stuff out of my 7.5 x 10 foot storage unit, the travel distance was 18 mins to my apartment and I verified with the driver that there was no traffic. When I called the first time to ask what was taking so long at hour 3 1/2, the dispatcher said, there was traffic because the Pali is down. Mind you, it was 10am, the movers were traveling down Kam Highway towards salt lake. If you know the island, you know there is very little traffic around that time in that direction. After explaining that I knew there wasn't traffic like that to the dispatcher, he hung up on me. My second attempt to figure out what was taking so long was 5 hours into it! I asked the movers directly first and they said they were almost done and that they placed my boxes in the rooms they were supposed to be in even though I expressed several times that I just wanted the stuff in my apartment, I don't care where it's at. The only thing I asked was to have my mattress and bed frame place in my bedroom. I then called the dispatcher again to see how much it was going to be at the 5 hour rate and told him that it didn't make sense that it took 5 hours for 3 guys to move my 1 bedroom apartment when it only took me and 1 girl to move the stuff without the proper equipment ( dolly ) 2-3 hours. He explained that they had a long path to push the dollys to bring my stuff in to the apartment and then hung up again. Finally, he calls back with my quote, $800!!!!!! Like what?! I totally could have paid for a Uhaul and asked my friends to move me in, but I didn't because my friend told me about this company and she had a great experience with them. After expressing how unhappy I was with the price and I compared to what she paid, a 3 hour job for $160, I was told that it was impossible that she paid that little, like I was lying about it. The dispatcher tried dropping the price to $750, like that made a difference. He then finally dropped it to $650 which is still completely over priced!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL. Please find an honest company that won't jack your prices up because you aren't on island at the moment to question it. read more

Moving to the mainland is a giant hassle! Was looking for a company last minute (2 weeks before move) to pack up some of my bigger items, take my stuff down to DHX and place it in pallets. This company was the only one that had availability for my date, and answered my phone call right away. Their quote was reasonable as well. Got a reminder phone call the day prior to confirm. Sorry, but we were disappointed. First of all, the woman who booked us, was rude and argumentative when I told her that I was upset that there were no boxes on the truck when the men came as I had ordered before . We moved from Waialua to Makakilo last year and thought they did a fantastic job, so we decided to go with them again. It took them 6-7 hours with 2 guys then, and with the same amount of stuff, we decided to go with 3, thinking it would be more efficient. Wrong. It took 3 guys the same amount of time, AND we even took the liberty to disassemble the bunk bed and crib for them and not have them put it back together, as this took long last time. AND we only moved from Makakilo to Ewa Beach! How does that make sense? When my husband tried to complain about it, one of the workers got testy with him and was making snyde remarks like "How much help do you think you did?" since my husband did help them carry boxes upstairs at the new house. When I tried to make a complaint, the dispatcher Marcus was VERY rude on the phone, not letting me explain myself, and when I tried to tell him one of their workers was rude, he said "Oh now you're just coming up with more reasons to complain!" I asked for his superior's info so I could take it at a higher level, but he hung up the phone on me. Oh, and they also left a bunch of stuff in the back patio which I didn't notice till after they left. 2 of the 3 guys were nice, but just so you guys know, one of the guys told us they get paid by the hour. So, the longer they take, the more they get paid...got it? I do NOT recommend this company. Rude dispatcher, sloppy job, unprofessional staff. How do you keep a business like that?
