Mala Town - Beef bone broth. - Chinese Near Me - Milpitas, California

Malatown is easily one of my favorite malatang restaurants in the area. I crave for it on a cold night & it never disappoints! I really like their tom yum flavor, I practically get it every time I go. Their system is pretty self explanatory, grab a bowl, add your toppings, weight it & pay before getting seated. Theres always a long line out the door, especially on the weekends or a cold night when everyone's craving for soup, so I recommend going at non-peak hours if you don't want to wait. read more

Mala Town in Milpitas is easily one of the better mala tang spots in the area and, in my opinion, a step up from YGF in both food quality and space. It's in the same plaza as YGF, which makes the comparison unavoidable, but Mala Town comes out ahead. The biggest advantage here is variety. The soup base selection is broader, and the setup works especially well for small groups or dates since everyone gets to customize exactly what they want without compromise. If you're new to mala tang or picky about ingredients, this makes the experience very approachable. The space is also nicer and more comfortable than most mala tang spots--clean, open, and not overly cramped, which matters with hotpot-style food. My main drawback (and this seems common with mala tang places) is the lack of beer. Beer pairs really well with this type of food and helps cut through the richness of the broth and ingredients. Having that option would elevate the experience. Overall, this is a go-to mala tang spot in Milpitas and an easy recommendation over YGF if you're deciding between the two. Would definitely return. read more

Doesn't get better hotpot than this! With so many options, it's always fun to come back and try to guess your weight for the bowl. An important tip is that all the beef options are the end! Some changes that I'm not sure are coming back are their pineapple juice and the several soup options. Maybe today was just too crowded! Hopefully they come back, I really love their dry mix on hot days. Customizable, clean, and friendly service! read more

Great service and great food. Everything was clean around the food and table. Best to come here early because it gets really busy especially the weekends. read more

This is my 3rd time here, at this specific location. My thoughts/observations: 1. Look closely at the veggies. It may not be clean (and when I received the food, it was still not clean, just cooked). 2. Management either needs retraining on how to schedule properly or they really need to hire. It's a late lunch, but it's still crowded. Lack of staff to help clean; the staff that are cleaning aren't doing it orderly so some parties are skipped. 3. Because of the above, my food was cooked and sitting on the counter for greater than 5 minutes. People were crowding the area (due to lack of space and possibly to see what's going on) so there's concern regarding what may be landing in my open pot while it sits. 4. Inconsistent with service provided. Either you're lucky and have someone on the floor refilling your water and other times you don't or you're skipped. I don't know if this is part of their service model so this wasn't really factored into the rating. If you like Mala Town, maybe find a different location. This one is always packed (since it's in a convenient spot) but not ready to service such crowds. read more

This is my current favorite malatang spot! Lots of options available and the line can go by pretty quick for how busy it gets during peak times. I've recommended this place to many of my friends and they all enjoyed it. Service was very quick and helpful with recommendations! The portion sizes are huge and you really do get enough to bring leftovers home as well. My group all got beef bone bone broth it was very good and as well as their options with the sauce bar. My only downside is that the tables are really close to each other and can get crowded a lot. Barely enough to squeeze through to get to any table. read more

3.5 currently. While I would have rated this spot a 5/5 a year ago, they've seen a decline in quality. They no longer provide free tea which was one of the things that really set them apart when they first opened. The quality of their food has declined, especially the house special fish balls. Today they were very mushy. I hope this spot improves their quality again. I would rather they increase prices than continue this slow decline in quality. read more

ok my bowl looks boring compared to others LOL but anyways if you're a seafood person, this spot is perfect for you because their selection is plentiful and good quality. the pricing is similar to other malatang spots, but I give this a +1 because of the complimentary tea. it's super refreshing!!! the service is quick and easy, and the interior of the establishment is clean. read more

Mala Town - Chinese Near Me - Milpitas, California

Honestly Mala town is one of my favorite Malatang places so far. Interior: The restaurant is spacious and clean and the staff members are really nice! Food: there is a big variety of things to choose from vegetables to meet. As for the soup base, there many selections to choose from. Their most popular is the beef bone broth, which is what me and my sister got that day. You are able to adjust the spice from mild to hot. Price: the price is very decent in my opinions : $14.99 /lbs and they even have a sign that says they do not account for the bowls weight. This is def different because for some reason at other malatang places, my bowl comes out to be more expensive even though the amount is usually the same :/ very sus. Sauce bar: they have a lot of variety of sauces you can choose from. They also offer water and some type of beverage for you (lemonade/green tea). My sister and I love cilantro and onions in our soup. It adds a lot of flavor to the broth :) Overall, I love this place more than other malatang places . It's clean and very spacious. The broth is delicious and the service is amazing. I'm willing to drive to Milpitas (30 min drive ) just for their food :) *bonus* it's in an Asian plaza that has a lot of dessert and a beauty store :) perfect place to walk around and digest after a delicious meal read more

The quality is top notch for hot pot. Really good for the price. Never had a bad experience

Family and I came out to try Mala Town today and we definitely see ourselves coming back. Everything was nicely set up and super clean. We came right before the dinner rush but once we left the place was pretty filled. Most of our table got the bone broth but I had the Tom Yum and we all agreed Tom Yum was prob the best! Surprisingly it's on the creamier side but still has the spice/tang you're looking for in a tom yum. Veggies/meats/sauces were a plenty. The servers were super nice and helpful and even offered us complimentary drinks by end of meal. A1 service! read more

I've been to this malatown location about 3 times now since visiting the one in Union City. You can't go wrong with malatang style since you can select your own ingredients at your desired amount and broth. Everything is calculated based on the weight of your bowl. In theory, you can't really hate on the food because YOU created it . I think what makes malatown stand out is that they have a lot more broth options in comparison to their neighbor YGF, and they have this addicting flower cheese tofu I love to get. I like their beef bone broth in medium and sukiyaki. In terms of the meats, they have a ton of options. They even have atleast 3 different types of beef cuts which is cool because I usually just see 1 beef cut at other malatangs. I like that they offer free sweetened green tea or pineapple juice, what an awesome treat! This place gets PACKED, especially on a weekday lunch. Good luck wanting to come here for a quick lunch because you will be bogged down with a very long wait. You could come in but end up waiting in line for 20-30 minutes until you are seated and eating. I can't give them all 5 stars because they haven't figured out their seating and waitlist situation. It's always been random and inefficient everytime I come. I think they need to implement some sort of Yelp Check In or some virtual check in since they get a ton of people waiting at the door, and it clogs up the space. Another downside is that this location is not ideal for groups larger than 6, a lot of their tables are split into 2s or 4s. The concept of having each person get their own food makes it great for large parties so we don't have to deal with splitting the bill, but the seating arrangements at this location makes it harder. read more

Yummy malatang spot, comparable to YGF and Ziangliang but I'd say this is the best of the 3. Decent selection of toppings, nothing that stood out too much but they did have a lot of noodle choices. I liked the beef broth here, the Szechuan flavor is a little milder than most places. Mild was not spicy so get more spice if you like that. Pretty expensive, but comparable to other malatang places. The service was good, it is clean, and has a lot of seating inside. There is free jasmine tea as well! read more

You really can't go wrong with Malatang - especially since you can choose all of the tasty ingredients that go in your bowl. Everything is super fresh and very clean - personally LOVE the chrysanthemum greens, tripe, enoki mushrooms, and any of the thinly sliced meats (was kinda stuck together since it wasn't fully defrosted). Their Beef Bone broth is SOOO addicting! Since it's been cooked for hours, it almost has a creaminess to it. I ordered the Medium Spice which can be quite a bit for those who aren't used to eating spicy food, but I LOVE mala spice so that was a bonus! My girlfriend ordered Mild spice which is one step down from Medium spice, but it was like night and day spice lol! Their dipping sauce bar is always well stocked (even when it was super packed) and nice and clean. They even had Peach Juice which was for FREE and was DELICIOUS!!! We were obsessed! Tip for those who haven't had Malatang - always grab less ingredients than you might expect you'd need. read more

I currently have this OBSESSION with Malatang, let's blame it on the cold weather! In this plaza there was one spot that was so PACKED I did not have the patience to revisit. Wack ass spot, waited in line for 20 minutes in the cold only for the staff to come out and say everyone standing outside can only order takeout. The whole point of coming is to enjoy the food at the restaurant. If I wanted take out I would stay at home and ordered from DoorDash. What makes it worse is they offered no compensation for the wasted time. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SPOT AT ALL. read more
