I heard a few people talk about their brunch so I decided to stop by and check it out. When we arrived, they did not have any seats so we decided to sit at the bar. I was totally fine with this because the place is so beautiful and has an open concept. The reason I am giving this three stars because the service was so slow. Every time we wanted something we had to flag the bartender down. He kept his back to us the entire time. I am hoping this is just a one off experience because the food was pretty decent. We got the bottomless brunch. The breakfast nachos were really good and I enjoyed the deviled eggs as well. The hot honey chicken tenders were flavorless, so I would never order that again. The brussels sprouts were decent, but I've definitely had better. The French toast was pretty good as well. The spinach dip was missing a little flavor as well. I thought the crab cake Benedict was good. I loved the hollandaise sauce. read more

Food was decent and presented well. Service was slow which the server acknowledged, so some drinks were comped which was nice. However, this experience was completely soured because my credit card was charged twice--once for my order and then another transaction for a higher amount. When I called to get a refund, they said it was valid as a "contactless payment" since there was no signature, and they would not refund me. My credit card company said it was a chip transaction and refunded my money. This has never happened to me before. For this reason, I cannot recommend this place at all. read more

Your two hostesses that are working today 28 July at 1422, should not be the face of your establishment. I'd use some choice words for them but Google wouldn't like that. When you walk into a place that's busy, you don't just say, "we don't have tables" and stare at the customer. Zero follow up to the statement from them. Had to ask about a wait time for them to say more than that. Their response to asking about wait times was, "there's no way for us to know when a table will be ready" in a snotty irritated attitude. Also the body language and just pissy look on their faces like they didn't want to talk to customers is not a good look. You should think about finding new help or coaching them on how to be better at their job. read more

The food here is delicious (I love the alfredo pasta and the fries are incredible), but I have a complaint about the waiter that I had on Sunday night. I was here with my mom while she was in town visiting and when the waiter came over, he said something along the lines of: "Let me get you started with some water. Do you want still water or sparkling water?" Note that with this phrasing, it seemed as though there were only two water options at this restaurant. We didn't want sparkling water and just wanted your regular, plain 'ole free water that you get at literally every restaurant in DC. Since he'd presented only two options, we said "still water," assuming that was the free tap water we were used to. Turns out, it's not, as our water cost $7.50. After reviewing the menu more closely, there were two sizes for the still water and he opted to give us the large size (naturally!), which cost $7.50. He couldn't ask us which size we wanted because then he'd have to reveal that we were accidentally choosing the water that you have to pay for, of course. We realized that we'd been inaccurately presented the options when we glanced around and saw that the tables near us with waitresses were all receiving water from a pitcher (clearly tap water) and the only other table near us with our same waiter had the same water that we did. I wonder if they had similarly selected that option accidentally because he'd failed to mention that he was only presenting paid water options instead of the actual list of water options, which includes the usual free water. I know....I'm being petty and it's just $7.50, but I really don't like being manipulated by waiters or waitresses to spend more money. This is my first time having an experience like this at a restaurant in DC after ten years of living here and it irritates me. Restaurants in DC are pricey enough. I've been here before once several months ago and while I don't remember it in vivid detail, I know that I had water (because I always do) and I know that I didn't have to pay for that water. I assume it's just this one waiter who chooses to present options this way, but it's uncool. Let's not do that. read more

Service: The server was serving a large party in the other room, so he was a little slow to take our order and get it out to us. But he was hustling, that was impressive. I visited this restaurant a year prior with my sister for a casual birthday dinner and had tucked that experience into my memory bank. Fast-forward, I recommended Makers Union for a group of eight. I qualified my recommendation by saying that I had not been there in a year and could not vouch for what it was like today. Well, this restaurant did not disappoint. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly. A few of us had the ribeye steak, which was prepared to perfection - melt in your mouth good! Someone else in our group had the burger which never disappoints, a few others went light with Mediterranean bowls, and another ordered the lamb chops. Everyone raved about their meals and the quality of the food. I had the spicy mango margarita which I liked, but it was a little sweet for my taste. But again good if that's what you like-others had the same drink and they loved it. The cocktails around the table were enjoyed by all. I wanted to preface that I'm not usually one to write food reviews. However this place appalled me by the absolute horrid service. For a restaurant that's whole basis is all you can eat brunch, it took 50 minutes for just 4 plates to come out. We politely reminded the servers multiple times, with no success. And when the food finally arrived there was no apology or any hint of remorse for mistakes with staff. When I told the manager about my experience he brushed it with attitude and again no apology. Horrible experience at Maker's Union. Wish I could have taken photos of our food orders, but honestly did not think the fullness of the experience would be so bad that I would have to write a review. We ordered the Chicken tenders, the pasta with chicken, and the Fish and Chips. We had an additional order from the kids menu (also chicken tenders) -- little did I know that the adult chicken tenders and kids menu chicken tenders were literally the same size! They adult tenders were laughably small. Literally the smallest size tenders I have ever had. Same issue with the Chicken in my pasta. There was so little chicken, I actually thought that they forgot to include it, until I dug in and found a few small bits of grilled chicken. I guess the one positive for the Fish and Chips is it was the right size. The only problem -- it smelled disgusting. We thought we were just imagining things (can everything really be going this bad?), until the table next to us commented how disgusting the fish smelled. A deeper look into the fish showed that it was uncooked. We returned it right away. No one came to apologize or give an explanation. It's almost worthless to mention at this point that the service was so slow on an empty night there, but It doesn't even matter. The portions and quality of the food were so poor that we'll never be back. Best I can surmise is this is just a tourist trap. After reading the menu and preparing to order, they were out of what we are told are their best apps...nachos and spinach/artichoke dip. We went with the chicken sandwiches which seemed to be a specialty. It was the most bland chicken sandwich I had ever had with some bad hot sauce squirted on it. We were expecting something close to Hattie B's in Nashville, but the sandwiches at Popeye's or Shake Shack are better. The fries were fine. If you are at the Wharf, go someplace else. read more

Food is good... service and attention to detail needs a bit of work. I've had the eggs Benedict a couple of times. First time the poached eggs were totally overcooked. Asked for extra hollandaise and had to remind the bar tender 3 different times to please bring me the extra sauce... the worst experience is waiting with cold eggs for more sauce :( second time service was in the dining room and much better. I have dined at Makers Union twice since their opening. From the menu starters, I have enjoyed the broccoli cheddar soup and crispy brussels sprouts. From the menu mains, I have enjoyed the hickory smoked salmon and. From the menu greens and bowls, I have enjoyed the pesto grain bowl. The restaurant space is attractively petite, making it a great space for lunch when the footprint of people is at a minimal. If you enjoy gentle and quite spaces for lunch, at this time I'd recommend Makers Union. As the restaurant recently opened, the staff and management are extremely warm and welcoming. A spirit of new possibilities fills this space, and it is refreshing. Lastly, while dining I had the honor of being hosted by Brianna. She functioned as a phenomenal waitress and made my dining experience pleasant. I look forward to exploring more of the menu. read more

I had lunch after brunch at the new Makers Union restaurant at the Wharf. The pros was I was seated quickly because it was not that many people in the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. My three $21 scallops were room temperature but tasty. My prime rib sandwich was also very good. The restaurant is a nice size. Cons, they have a lot of employees, but they're not as a tentative to the guest as they should be. I waited quite a while for my food being that the restaurant only had a handful of people. I asked for dessert and I was offered a brownie and bread pudding. I opted for the bread pudding, taking my total bill to over $70 with a tip. The bread pudding was terrible. It was hard and was not tasty. Overall i enjoyed my meal. The managers come over later and they were very nice. I think it's going to be a nice neighborhood pub. Just give them some time. This restaurant is brand new but overall it's worth trying. The menu looks great. They also have live music on the weekend. Check them out! read more

Majority of the bartenders time was spent w that group of ladies OR conversing w colleagues so I had to wait and grab her attention again as she was talking &i ready to order my drink... The drink she made was good. a male bartender arrived... I thought to help but then I noticed both bartenders assisting everyone around me BUT me So I waited (& watched the time as I waited) for 15 minutes to see if anyone would refresh my water or ask me if my food was good as they did the other patrons. That didn't happen and after 15 mins I found a manager after listening not really seeming to care she walked away and comped my app & drink I left and I will NEVER return. I came in to visit my sister from out of town. We were staying at the Pendry hotel and saw this great little new restaurant open just across the street and then we stopped in to look at the menu and the tomahawk steak and bottomless mimosas for two! It looked irresistible on a Sunday morning. The steak was perfectly prepared and it was delicious! Our drinks were very good too! I get clean/prep as you get close to closing but had 2 hours left. Food came without utensils, literally took 5 mins to get a hold of the bar tenders. Probably one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. I booked a table for Father's Day and everything was terrible. First I will say the food was 2/10, the waitress was extremely confused and brought everything out wrong. we booked for the tomahawk steak dinners and were told they only had ribeye for a cheaper price & that we would still receive the two sides and then receive a complimentary dessert and appetizer which was fine. We asked for the steaks made medium and she brought every steak out well done. Towards the end when we asked for a bill she first had charged us full price for the tomahawk dinners that we never got so we had to call the manager to change that. The waitress then said she is going to charge for all of the sides al a cart since we didn't pay full price for the tomahawk steak dinner which didn't make sense. We called the manager a second time and got that fixed. When we received the final bill we split it in two and asked the waitress if she would like to do one by one. She said no she can do both , and then proceed to charge the wrong cards on the wrong bills and then added a third random bill with ours and charged one of the cards again for a second transaction. it was an extreme inconvenience and all of the food was nasty. Let me preface this review by saying originally I planned to go to milk and honey for lunch and was told by staff at milk and honey that the food was the same.... It was not. I've never been more disappointed with a meal than I was today. Every dish that was served not only lacked flavor but was cold. Waffles were brick hard. French fries were cold and soggy. A truly delightful and welcoming environment! Came here for lunch right when they opened at 11 am. Was very warmly welcomed by my server. This was on 1/17/24 and I wish I'd gotten her name but she was working the bar and waitressing by herself to start and she was so friendly and attentive!! I visited during DC restaurant week and had the Brussel sprouts to start- SO delicious and spicy! Spicier than I expected- I couldn't eat the last few slices of pepper. If you don't like spicy foods, I would ask them to leave out the peppers or only do a few. But I loved it! Then I had the pesto grain bowl with chicken for my main. Felt very hearty & healthy and warming. Unfortunately they were out of tiramisu due to lady finger shortage- but the brownie sundae I had made up for it! For drinks I had the "new year, new yuzu" mocktail which was delicious and I had the passionfruit mocktail but replaced the sprite with club soda. Both were super refreshing and light. Very upset about my experience here with a friend. We sat and ordered food (avocado toast and chicken tenders) my avocado tasted aged and un seasoned. My friend ordered the chicken tenders and her tender was cold. I am not one to complain and am absolutely not confrontationalso I politely scooted my plate towards the bar and attempted to get our waiters/bartender attention (we were sitting at the bar) I had no problem paying for my food I just wanted something else, we also had ordered bottomless mimosas. We finished our first round of mimosas and waited exactly 38 minutes for someone to check on us for silverware,how the food was, and a refill on our BOTTOMLESS mimosas. I was not asked why I didn't eat my food they just took the plate. Another bartender who was NOT our server came and asked if we were good we expressed that we were not and weren't seen in the past to check on us she then began to tell us how they are busy and we need to wait and speak up. I then politely expressed to her that I had been attempting to get our waiters attention for the past 30 minutes. Her passive aggressiveness was extremely rude so we asked to speak to a manager she then proceeds to walk behind us and say "because Im not dealing with yalls f*%#% attitudes" and proceeded to say we had already been served two pitchers of mimosas when we had not. She came back and was making sly remarks at us until we paid and then we were able to speak to a manager. We spoke to a manager and she did not seem too worried about our experience.
