Surprising ramen (with shrimp). For a non-Asian restaurant it's pretty good ramen. The noise and music level was way too high. We could barely hear one another across a narrow high table (on bar stools). Sure modern decor but the ambiance isn't for chatting. We came here for a friends birthday dinner recently and while food was pretty solid, service and other small items made it a little bit of a shaky ride. I will say their prices of drinks is very high, comparable to DC. My lychee martini came out like half full and for like $19, I want the martini to the brim please, dont skimp on my $19 worth of alcohol. I do think they had a great wine selection and they did actually pour a 9 oz pour when you ordered that. Espresso martini was pretty tasty too. Foodwise, I got the french onion soup to start. It did have a good bread and cheese ratio but I found the broth a bit too sweet. For my main I got the Italian Sausage Pappardelle, which actually had a great pasta to sauce ratio and the pasta tasted fresh. For dessert I got the key lime pie which was quite tasty. As the party went on service did get a little shaky, and we had waiters literally roll their eyes at us, etc which I found rude. Also the drinks came out a lot slower too which was a bummer. The restrooms are individual stalls but I noticed a bit of shaky construction, things were hanging off the wall crooked, things felt like they were rushed to build and half the toilets were unflushed which was a bit gross so perhaps some restroom maintenance when things are slow. Visited with reservation during the week. The restaurant is large and mostly consists of booth seating with tables near the back of the restaurant. The booth we sat in easily sat six comfortably but was dimly lit. I had the pappardelle dish, a side Caesar salad and non alcoholic spritz. The food portions were very large at a good price point - I took home leftovers of my pasta. The pasta was well flavored with a hint of spiciness. I truly enjoyed the pasta entree. Not sure what to say about this place, except that the atmosphere is nice and it's great for watching sports. There is a lot of seating (it's a big place) with many TVs and no bad viewing angles. Moxies actually a chain that is popular in Canada. The menu is all over the place - everything anyone could want, sushi, burgers, sandwiches, bar food, pasta, steak, etc., and the food was good but not memorable, with pricing on par with most DC restaurants. We liked the nachos and the tuna sushi stack, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for these again. The service was great at first, late afternoon on a Saturday, but as it started to fill up towards dinner time, the service really dropped off and we felt like we couldn't find anyone to order more food, and it almost seemed like we were being ignored as the servers were walking around nearby but not stopping at our table. read more

Walked in on a Wednesday and the energy was already going but this is DC during happy hour so honestly that tracks perfectly. The space is well laid out with two distinct vibes: bar and high top seating on one side that feels social and lively, and a quieter more intimate side with booths. Our party of six fit comfortably which is always a win. While waiting for my crew I ordered the dumplings l, solid, enjoyable, just didn't quite wow me. Main course was steak frites with truffle fries, a classic done right. Steak was cooked well and a quick check around the table confirmed the rest of the party was equally satisfied. Service was attentive and moved at a good pace which matters when you're catching up with people and don't want to chase down your server all night. I made a reservation, so we had a table, but there were a decent amount of coworker happy hours that made things a bit chaotic. Happy Hour Review! As a dedicated football fan, I can officially seeing myself coming here to catch a few games on the screen. HH Drinks ranged from $6-12 and the selections will blow you away...a steal in DC!!!!! I ordered the espresso martini which was delicious but the star of the show was the Aperol spritz, which I continued drinking throughout the evening. HH bites were $12 with limited selections. However, the plates are shareable. I ordered the Thai chili chicken and the pork potstickers (veggies available). The pork stickers were really good. Freshly prepared and well balanced with a delicious mango salsa which welcomed sweetness to your palate and soy sauce for a bit of savory notes in each bite. The star of show however, was the Thai chili chicken bite. OMG! This dish is what you call culinary genius! It's sooooooo good and the balance of flavors is proof of that. The chicken was nicely diced and lightly fried then topped with a well balanced sweet/spicy sauce. Then to complement the dish, they added their house special wonton chips which carried a beautiful nachos flavor. AMAZING all around! And yes! The wontons are refillable! NEW, sexy, boughie, classy...what more could you want from a DC restaurant? Did I mention the food here is ABSOLUTELY delicious? I found Moxies on OpenTable after looking for the perfect spot to celebrate part 1 of my birthday weekend with my girls. Much like Miss Knowles, I needed an Act 1, 2, and 3 to celebrate my season. The description online said that this spot was "modern, classy, and vibrant". I'm happy to report that Moxies lived up to all of that and then some. As soon as I entered, I was greeted with a complimentary glass of prosecco and birthday wishes from the beautiful staff...what a lovely touch! They even threw in a free dessert for the occasion. I told them they'd easily get 5 stars on Yelp from me for that alone lol ;). Luckily, the menu left an even better impression on me. It happened to be restaurant week when we visited (another bonus of being an Aquarius baby) and we had the chance to sample several items amongst the group. From the potstickers, hot baked crab dip, chicken madeira rigatoni, miso ramen, and steak frites- everything was melt in your mouth good. Bonus points to the white chocolate brownie... absolutely delectable. Overall, Moxies was perfect from start to finish. The food was amazing, the interior was gorgeous, and the restrooms were pristine. Details that matter, ok!? To top if off, they treated me like an absolute princess during my special day and made me and my guests feel truly cared for. I'm already planning a return visit. We ate a late night dinner at Moxie's the other evening! We were at work till almost 10 pm so that left us with very few choices at that time of night. We had driven by Moxie's a number of times and wanted to see what all the crowds were doing there. So, Moxie's is basically a big bar with a big dining room. Most of the tables are high tops and there are numerous TV screens scattered throughout the restaurant, all playing different sports games. At this late hour, there were few customers. The restaurant was nice and clean. The interior decoration is good, modern and casual. There is a nice outdoor area to sit at but it was warm and muggy so we opted for inside seating. The menu is HUGE! The offerings are a mix of typical American fare plus Italian dishes, Asian food and assorted other stuff that doesn't fit into any single category. So, any sized group will be able to find something to eat that they will like. I ordered the Red Thai Curry which was good. The sauce tasted authentic with a strong heat to it; the cream balanced the spice nicely. There were plenty of veggies and other ingredients (mushrooms, cashews, etc.) in the broth. I ordered this with shrimp and, to be honest, I was disappointed with the amount, size & quality of shrimp. It is fair to say that the shrimp was popcorn shrimp, the smallest available. Larger shrimp would have made this dish outstanding and would have added to the flavor of the curry nicely. To be honest, the shrimp Moxie's served me did not have much flavor. My spouse had the Miso Ramen and he thought it was average. The noodles were soggy and the flavor was rather neutral. The shrimp in this dish were large with the tails on. Why my Red Thai Curry did not have these larger, tail on shrimp in it is beyond me. We started out with an appetizer of spicy tuna roll and we thought it was mediocre - not much flavor. Perhaps the other, non-Asian, dishes are really the way to go here. Maybe we simply chose badly. Moxie's is not a Thai place, not a Ramen house and certainly not a sushi place. We might have been better served with dishes like chicken rigatoni, baby back ribs or Scottish salmon - or some of the many other offerings. The service was good and attentive. Our server was Caroline G and she was very friendly and hard working. The manager too was quite nice, polite and helpful. When we told him we were so cold, he immediately took care to turn the a/c down. I will give Moxie's another chance of course. One meal alone should not prevent me from returning PLUS the service was good, the dining room was nice and - hey - it's open really late. So, next time, I will select food that is less ethnic and more generic and I hope that will give me a better experience. I cannot, at this time, give a thumbs up or down because I need another opportunity to review this place. I think Moxie's is a place that deserves another look from me and a "try" from you, however. But my 2nd visit will be the deciding factor. read more

This restaurant seems to be a popular spot among the regulars, especially regulars popping in for a drink or two during Happy Hour. I, for one don't drink, and decided to give this place a try for its food and dining experience. I suggested the spot to my daughter because she really wanted to take me somewhere for Father's Day, although a belated one. The restaurant is easy to get to and I suggest taking the Metro instead of driving there because it's on-street parking only. I'm just going to say that I was expecting better and was disappointed with my experience. After being seated, it took an unreasonably long time before anyone came to the table to greet us or even take our order. Both of us felt completely overlooked. I didn't want to get up and raise a scene because I was trying to be on my best behavior with my daughter sitting across from me. Once we finally got some type of service (a glass of water and a menu....YAY) the staff was polite and the food was decent, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. However, the long wait to be acknowledged really set the tone for the rest of the meal for me. Hopefully the restaurant can improve its attentiveness because first impressions do matter. read more

We first tried Moxies in Miami and loved it, so when we saw there was one in DC we knew we had to go--and it was just as amazing! We had the steak salad and steak sandwich and both were SO good. Honestly one of our favorite meals of the trip! It took so long to order mains and additional drinks. Our waitress would just randomly disappear. We arrived at 6:30 with a reservation and didn't leave until 9pm since everything took so long. Food was quite mid. Appetizers were decent, nothing special. My mahi sandwich was incredibly dry and had no flavor. The salad was floating in dressing. My partner ordered the chipotle mango chicken that was also very dry and the chipotle rub was clumpy. The quinoa didn't make sense with the dish, "it looked like a tower of dark brown." First of all, the service was excellent. There was about a dozen of us and the wait staff took it in stride as we were having a bit of a victory celebration, having achieved a critical milestone. I'm so mad I didn't get staff names because they were incredible. We walked in on a warm spring day, asking for a high chair for our two year old and to sit outside. Usually that gets eye rolls or sighs. Instead, we were told exactly how many people were in front of us and we were told we could sit and wait. We were immediately offered prosecco and a toy for my kid. From there folks walked by, clearly busy, and still made time to check if we needed anything. My son was even offered tortilla chips which made his day. Once seated, we were immediately met by a server who I presume was the manager, who takes our order and promptly comes back with my drink and the kids meal. I know I'm gushing about the service because it was that good, but the food was so great too. Highly recommend the crab dip and the blackened mahi! The Fusion old fashioned with Japanese whiskey was great too. Anyway, thank you to everyone at Moxies for being so kind to us in DC, which is often not super friendly to families eating out.
