Madison Benoit is charming French bakery on Railroad Ave. There is street parking, but no dedicated lot. You will see a menu podium to the left as you approach the entrance. Upon entering you'll find will find the place has a nice flow. The bakery operations are to the left with the display cases in front of you. There is some merchandise being sold to the left. The ordering process is broken up by case. You are greeted at the first case and order your breads, croissants, etc. Then you move to the next case where you order pastries, toasts, and sandwiches this followed by any drinks. You should try their award winning croissant. Having visited France, its buttery layers bring back fond memories. We have also enjoyed their cinnamon brioche, and Mirror Chocolat (a chocolate lovers must try). Their Baguette Viennoise is a true sweet treat. There are two items that I hope were just one offs. A Suisse croissant which was over baked, sans pastry cream and tasted more like a large chocolate croissant. Also their Mille Feuille, where unfortunately the pastry cream flavor was too subtle. The staff is attentive especially when busy. I would highly recommend a visit. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. So order a treat, a warm drink and lose yourself for a while. read more

I'm updating my review of this (mostly) amazing bakery, because twice now I have purchased their delicious sliced Levain bread (for a mere $15.00 a loaf), and got home to discover that their bread slicer mangled half of the loaf. The first time the cashier told me it was because the bread was so fresh that it "didn't slice well." The second time (later in the day, so it wasn't brand new out of the oven fresh), the machine still mangled half of the loaf. For what they are charging, they should have a state-of-the-art bread slicing set-up. I'm going out of town tomorrow and don't have time to return this. read more

If you love French bakery and sandwiches this place is for you. I am not a fan of this type of food, but can see clearly that the food is of good quality. There is usually a line for service, but they are pretty organized and it moves quickly. I wanted to sit outside as it seemed like a pleasant experience, but it was full that day. Stopped here for lunch on a hot Sunday. We ordered the BLT and salmon quiche. The BLT took about 20 mins to receive, was dry and not tasty at all. They said they were warming it up and that's why it took so long, but it was cold and dry when I actually received it. The inside dining area was just as hot as it was outside. The place may be okay for coffee and pastries, but I don't recommend it for lunch. One House Bakery in Benicia is 100% better. read more

Worth the wait for these delicious breads and pastries. They are European style, not American so they are not as sweet, but the croissants melt in your mouth. The canele' are crisp on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. The baguettes beg for some triple cream Brie or Normandie butter. Magnifique! We just returned from a holiday vacation in Paris and were desperately missing Parisian croissants. Et voila- Maison Benoit opens in our local area! We were excited to brave the lines and try this new place, and we were excited to hear that the place is opened by native French chefs. The croissants are delicious- the texture, lamination, proofing and technique are spot on. The outside is flaky and crispy, with shattery edges. The inside is light and well layered. These are the best croissants we've ever tried in this local area. The Parisian sandwiches with house made baguettes are also amazing- very reminiscent of the Jambon Buerre that you can find everywhere in Paris. The pastries and eclairs are transcendent too. Beautiful flavors and textures. Ooh La La- this bakery is such a rare gem in this neighborhood, and fills a niche that we have been missing- that authentic French bakery. read more

Had the curried chicken and egg salad on a baguette. The bread was excellent. The chicken was tasteless. My suggestion is to forget about the chicken and leave the egg salad. You need more meatless selections anyway and the egg salad and mixed greens on the baguette would have been delicious. read more

First time here, place was clean, employees were nice. Nothing jumped out at me though as to why the ratings are so high. I bought a loaf of bread, which was actually the best thing I had. A vanilla custard tart (super dry and bland) banana bonafee (not sure if I spelled that right but it wasn't like the European kind I'm used to, it was almost kinda burnt tasting) and an apple turnover which wasn't bad but I wouldn't get again. I'm not sure I might try again, sometimes things taste different on a second visit. Last thing I dislike was they don't take cash, I know lots of places are moving to cashless but I seriously hate it. I like paying cash. Three stars were for the cleanliness and employees were very friendly. read more

Best French bakery this side of Europe. Took a few weeks and a rain storm for the long lines of people waiting outside to die down. Most things were bought out, but was able to purchase some pan au chocolat, regular croissants, some fruit tarts and baguettes. Both types of croissants were fresh, flaky and buttery. Taste like good true real French baked goods. The baguettes were fresh out of the oven; crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fruit tarts were fresh, but the base of the tart was a little bland tasting. The custard filling was good. Looking forward to trying other offerings in the future. Came here Friday morning and the line was long due to the slow service. Between the three families we spent ~$200 on an assortment from the menu (sandwiches, quiche, toast, baked goods, coffees and juices). As the heated dishes trickled its way to the table we had to ask for an update on missing plates and drinks. At one point we went inside to ask about a quiche that was accidentally given to another patron so was asked to wait a few more minutes as they heated the order. We waited over 15mins for the coffee and some more for 1 of 2 juices to come out. When we inquired about the second cup we were told we didn't order another one and that if we wanted another cup they'd be happy to walk us in with our credit card to charge us for another. We selected no receipt so didn't have an itemized receipt on our end so asked for them to check the history and the staff member said they did and we were only charged for one and again she could take us inside to charge for one. We assured her it was already charged and to take another look. About ten minutes later she came out with our juice and said when they checked it was their mistake and that we had ordered two. Horrible customer service overall. Sharing one receipt of three from our morning there. Baked goods are good, but they really need some help with their efficiency and customer service. read more

Very good chocolate croissant! I live in SF so I'm used to Arsecault so my expectations were very high but they were very good. My only critique is they need to box up the croissants instead of bagging them. The top layers of the croissants were at the bottom of the bag which should not happen but overall, a great addition! read more

Honestly the best pastries I have had in the state of California. Or ever. I used to be partial to Bouchon Bakery in Yountville, but the pastry chef here blows them clear out of the water. I got the country loaf; chocolate baguette; original baguette; quiche Lorraine; Pain Au Chocolates; almond croissant; chocolate almond croissant; and an almond milk mocha latte. Literally all heaven on earth. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The inside has plenty of tables for eating in, and plenty of tables on the patio. The line gets a little crazy but moves quickly due to the staff's high level of efficiency and hard work. The only suggestion I have is to possibly have another staff member making coffee in the morning rush hour and to place straws next to the coffee pickup area. I will definitely be back. read more

We just had a delicious meal at Maison Benoit. The atmosphere was lovely - very Parisienne - and everything was very fresh and tasty. I had the Salmon Tartine and it was sooo good. The cucumbers were perfectly salted, the salmon was delish and the dill and lemon zest were a nice touch. The location of this bakery is perfect in Downtown Danville, and I think it's a great addition. I think the owners should rethink their ordering system because it's too complicated for the staff. The team was really confused as to who ordered what when it came time to checkout...especially if someone ordered a toasted sandwich since they don't have a way of keeping track of who the food belongs to. I have some mixed feelings on the food. I enjoy the Pain au chocolat $4.50 & Éclair Café $7.50, but the Croque Monsieur $12 and Smoked Salmon Tartine $18 are...just eh, not the best. I haven't ordered any of their drinks, but their espresso equipment is top-notch & roaster is good, so if they're trained right, I'm hoping it'll be great. If you want a decent, local pastry then I think this place is great for that! If you are looking for some INCREDIBLE and BETTER PRICED European-style sandwiches, tartines and pastries, I'd recommend Bouchon Bakery in Yountville and Tartine in San Francisco. read more
