Saw a reel saying Maison Benoit won SF's Best Croissant Competition of 2025, and as a croissant addict, of course I had to check it out for myself lol. My first visit was a to-go order of the Original Croissant, Pain Suisse, and Flan, and I loved everything so much that I came back again a month later when I was in the area. Their pastries are seriously exceptional, and I can totally see why they won the award. Personally though, I actually love the Pain Suisse even more! The dough was flaky, buttery, a right balance between crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside with each bite. And the Flan Vanille is on another level. I've tried so many different flans and even know how to make a pretty good one myself, but this is the kind of flan I would bring to a party if I wanted to impress everyone. The bakery itself is beautiful, and I love that you can watch the bakers working through the glass window. Their pastry display is also dangerous because everything looks so good, with tons of sweet and savory options. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well. Staffs were friendly and welcoming. I also tried their holiday berry croissant on my second visit. They definitely did NOT skimp on the filling lol. It was actually a little too much filling-to-croissant ratio for me, but I appreciate the generosity! Strawberry Cookie were soft and fresh Prices are pretty average for artisan pastries, and the quality and size is definitely worth it. Such a great bakery in Danville and I'll absolutely be back.

Quaint patisserie in Danville with friendly & informative customer service. My dad had many inquisitive questions & I asked about their popular items to which the cashier kindly answered w/such sincerity & enthusiasm that made us feel valued as a customer. Items: Cinnamon Brioche $6.50 soft, fresh brioche w/a beautiful cinnamon to sugar ratio that had the perfect sweetness. Pain Suisse $6.50 a chocolate crioissant that has lingering pieces of crisp chocolate that oozed out while baking. The croissant had flaky layers that was very well crafted. Not overly sweet & the ideal pastry with a cup of coffee. Egg Turkey Breakfast Bun $6 a filling savory treat crafted w/attention & care. Mango Passionfruit Sorbet $12 had both a good balance of mango & Passionfruit purée but it was a little sweet due to the 2 fruits added, but it certainly was a nice way to cool off in 90 degree weather. Everything was authentic & the customer service was the cherry on top.

Glad I've found this place to get my croissant fix. Ever since we came back from Phoenix and tried JL Patisserie, I've been looking for a local bakery for my croissant fix. I didn't use to be a big croissant person but JL and this place have changed my mind. My go to here is getting the Pain Suisse and a plain croissant, delicious! Has that nice crispy exterior but still light and fluffy. The pain au chocolat is good but doesn't have as much chocolate as I'd like, so I always opt for the Pain Suisse. Overall a great little patisserie in the East Bay and I can see why it won awards for best croissant.

This is such a great French bakery! The ambiance is one of my favorite things about this place. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, with an open, spacious feel, great lighting, and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. There's light conversation throughout, so it feels lively without being overwhelming. They also offer free Wi-Fi and outlets in certain areas, which makes it a great spot to get some school or work done. Service: The staff are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Some of the staff even speak French, which adds a nice touch to the experience. The owner is also around quite often and is always very pleasant and welcoming. Food & Drinks: There are so many delicious choices on the menu, from breakfast items and sandwiches to beautifully crafted drinks and freshly squeezed orange juice. There's something for pretty much every mood or occasion. Overall, this is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy yourself. Bring a friend and catch up over coffee and food, come in to get some work or studying done, or simply stop by on your own and enjoy some good food, drinks, and a peaceful atmosphere.

A beautiful location that I will have to try again because my experience sadly wasn't ideal. (3.5) Loved the option to eat inside or outside. We were excited to try the best croissant in the Bay Area. I drooled at the cases and planned to eat something there and to take some treats home. I ordered the turkey and egg croissant and orange juice to eat for brunch. Loved the crunch of the pastry but I was expecting a bit more flavor with the turkey and egg. The fresh OJ was yummy. (3.0) We also dove into our bags and I loved the cannele and the vanilla and chocolate marquise. The latter two were our favs with the rich cream filling. (5.0) We also tried the plain croissant that we were excited about. But maybe our expectations were overly high and it wasn't our best we have tried in the Bay or the world. We like our croissants crunchy on the outside and flaky on the inside; the outside was a bit soft for our liking and more bready than flaky on the inside. Maybe it was just us. I expected to have a snack when I got home with my purchased plain croissant, almond croissant and almond croissant, but when I opened the bag, I found three plain croissants. What happened? It wasn't very busy when we arrived but was when we left. Lesson learned, check your order before you leave. I will return and hope to get my almond and chocolate croissants next time! Update: I warmed up my plain croissant at home in the toaster oven and it was more to my liking.

Ordered the Spinach & Feta Quiche (warmed), Tarte Fine Pêche, Canelé, and a large Pumkin Cream Chai Latte w/Almond Milk. It was ALL very delicious, but 3 things: 1) had to wait an extended amount of time for a table fork to which I ended up using a wooden one to pair with my table butter knife, 2) pastries were served on a chipped plate, and 3) the Canelé was platted upside down revealing that it was slightly burned. When I asked for a fork the bus child/youth (I'm in my 50s) answered they're coming out and 10mins later, where are they? They ended up coming out in time for me to finish my brunch desserts It was bustling the entire time I was dining in.

Such a nice quaint French bakery store front with indoor and outdoor seating. So many pastries to choose from. Every single one of them looking so delectable. From time to time, I pick up a box of chouquettes. Ten to be exact. Can't just have one and it's nice to share. It's simple yet so tasty. I especially enjoy them with some coffee/expresso. Another amazing time at Mai Son Benoit. We got some different foods this time a brioche Au sucre, strawberry cookie, Bayonne, and chocolate chip scone. Everything was delicious. I would say the only thing that was really annoying was that the girl that was helping us kept saying anything else anything else anything else? Anything else and I was like yes please stop asking. We're gonna tell you what we want it was really annoying. The ambience was good. Everybody was happy to be there and they have all the windows thrown open for the beautiful day! These pastries are expensive and while they are flaky, I got the chocolate croissant, and I was appalled to see that the chocolate was in literally 1% of the croissant. Visited the bakery today (2/12/26) to grab some canelés, lemon meringue tart, vanilla flan...and of course that almond and chocolate croissant! All wonderfully delicious! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I'm definitely a fan! Plenty of street and lot parking nearby. _______ A friend treated me to some of the most wonderful croissants without having to cross the bridge. What one expects from a well made croissant with its rich, buttery, airy, soft interior with flaky exterior, Maison Benoit makes these so calorie-worthy and worth the price tag! I do have my favorite spot in Albany/Oakland but the almond chocolate croissant has me craving more. Oddly, I'm usually not into chocolate croissants but Maison Benoit makes a good almond chocolate ($7.50) with chunks of quality chocolate vs a paste piped down the middle resembling a tootsie roll...not good. Looking at the Yelp pics I may have to make a trip and pick up a bunch of goodies! I'm eyeing a ham and cheese, caneles and of course, anything with custard!

If you're looking for a charming French bakery in the East Bay, Maison Benoit is definitely worth the visit. Everything looked incredible in the pastry case and you can tell the pastries are made with care #1 in SF area for their croissants, which are buttery, flaky, and perfectly baked. You can watch the bakers through the window outside. What we tried: Honey Bear Latte ($6.25) - lightly sweet and comforting Almond Croissant ($7) - flaky with a generous almond filling Egg & Turkey Breakfast Bun ($6) - simple, savory, and satisfying Chouquette ($2) - light, airy, and the perfect little bite Kouign-Amann ($6.75) - crispy, caramelized, and buttery goodness Quiche Lorraine ($11.50) - rich and flavorful Chakchouka Croissant ($8) - a fun savory twist with bold flavors The space feels cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot for brunch or a coffee break. Seating is first come, first serve, so it can fill up quickly on weekends. Staff members were so accommodating helping me with the adjustment of the sweetness of my latte. Been wanting to give this place a try (after reading all the reviews) but slight disappointment as the chocolate almond croissant was sold out. There was a line but it moved pretty quickly - like 8-10 mins. Ample of seatings both inside and outside. A first bite of chocolate baguette made me think of the chocolate chips rolls from Trader Joe's . The baguette honestly, is okay. Had a raisin roll to go and a sad looking latte. Dine in latte or cappuccino has coffee art. A good place to hang out with friends or taking a quick bite. read more

Writing this as i sit here dining almond croissant into hazelnut coffee. This is place is well with the 20 mile drive from home. Line out the door but they are quick in serving everyone. Limited seating but for some reason no problems on finding table for 4. Makes up for our cancelled trip to Paris. Croissants flaky, pastries too beautiful to eat and not sweet. Staff extremely friendly and helpful in decision making. Must return. read more

We went in for two coffees and pastries - Only croissants were available at around 1 pm on a Thursday. ( Not an ideal time, but it was the best we could do on short notice for a last minute treat.) While both coffees ( a cappuccino and a frothy latte ) were wonderful, the croissants weren't anything to praise. That moment you tear your croissant apart reveals so much about how much attention went into the details that make a croissant memorable: Aroma: when you break open the croissant you should smell the butter. Also, a very good baked croissant is chewy without being tough. And the flavor should be buttery with only a whiff of yeast. . Using a generous amount of butter is key. None of these expectations were met. Unfortunately, this visit was a disappointment, hence only 3 stars. . read more

A nice, cute and unique bakery in Danville is a huge plus. And who doesn't LOVE French croissants, breads? I remember those wonderful trips, walking around Paris, enjoying those deliciuos baguettes with butter... The reasons for only 3***? 1. The line was always so long. 2. The prices are high. 3. They close around 4pm so if one waits for the line to get shorter, around 2pm, there's not much left to choose from. 4. I got a chocolate an a regular croissants and a piece of white bread. Almost $20. They tasted good but not for the price. Maybe I was expecting the similar flavor of the croissants I got from Paris??? I might give it another try and hopefully, next time, the line won't be too long and there will be more selections to choose from... For now, I will stick with Costco croissants... read more

The cashier on June 17th 2024 was simply wonderful. I asked if they had something, and the cashier said it's not on the menu but she could have one made for me. It was something very simple but most people would have taken the easy route and simply said, sorry, no... but this person made no fuss, had the kitchen prepared it, and then charged me a very reasonable amount for it (it was actually less than I expected). After paying, this person also looked at my order and went out of her way to correct something that I would have never caught but it did make a positive difference. Our sandwiches and pastries were wonderful, the prices are very reasonable for the high quality, but the care from this young person was simply outstanding. Just for the food, I would come back but because of this one person, I'll come back more often. read more

This place was awesome--clean, great service, and the pastries were amazing. We got the tart and the crème puffs (not sure of the correct name). I also got a chocolate cake and a tart to go, and they were all excellent. I will try their cheese sandwich next time. I am so glad we finally have a nice bakery on this side of the tunnel. My only recommendation is please open more locations and bring more whole cases to order to go. read more

Where do I even start ! Ive been here multiple times and I wanted to wait for a bit to give it a proper review. Ive been to this place during different times of the day so let me go in depth about everything. Food: Amazing infinity/10 top tier, authentic, tastes like the real deal. I hear people talk and they say things such as "it tastes like home" "the flavor in the sweets is immaculate" "Ive been to France and there's no difference in taste" and more. Me myself I have a big sweet tooth so my top 3 Would be the chocolate eclairs, Royal(Ive had 4 so far), and traditionally the pain au chocolat. All that goes delightfully with a latte. Drinks: 10/10 yes there is wait time but nothing too excessive. Obviously, if there's a lot of people there's a lot to make. They take time to provide good taste ! They communicate to customers about what drink they're working on and what they're working on next and always deliver with a genuine smile. Atmosphere: Amazing, polite, and respectful staff. Everyone engages in conversations and are very attentive to customers. It is an ideal place to catch up with a friend, write some emails or even do homework. Tables get cleaned within a reasonable amount of time. Dishes are properly cleaned, self serve station is also stocked with sugars and stirs. I noticed staff has no issues tending to the customers wishes(if something needs to be restocked or tables need to be wiped again). Even the manager himself always has a smile on his face and is even more happy when he meets someone. There is a lot of positive communication between the staff and customers which is excellent !! I noticed it's easier if we bring our plates back to them since it does get busy. Speaking of business: Yes it is true a lot of the good stuff runs out quickly. With that in mind that's even more of a reason why this place is so good !! The line is worth it and preordering is also available. This place just opened up so give them time to adjust to a rush . Also bathrooms are always clean very nice modern style! In summary: Yes there are pros and cons to this place seeing that this is the only store and it's their first time having a store, It's worth the excitement. I hear people talk about how expensive it is. If you consider the quality of everything it's worth the price, I bet the ingredients they put in are not cheap. With how busy it is, give it some time, they're still upgrading and adapting and they're doing great. They close at 3:00 now instead of 4:00 so if you want coffee or a croiu best get there by around 2:30. They're still closed Mondays and Tuesdays (for now). I'm excited to see this bakery grow ! read more

I saw an article praising its croissants yesterday so I thought my wife and I would try it after our Farmers Market today. We arrived at about 1:45 and they were completely out of ALL types of croissants. No problem. We got there too late so that's on us. We ordered a baguette and the BLT sandwich and there was a problem with the BLT as they had run out of the bread they normally use and asked if a substitution was ok. We agreed. We found an empty table outside but no one had cleared it even though there were several people behind the counter laughing and joking with one another. Apparently they haven't been taught the "If youca lean, you can clean" philosophy. I found a spot for us inside at a side counter which was clear of any cups and such but the counter was covered with crumbs which I brushed off. I went back to the display case and ordered another item. As I approached to pay the young lady that took the BLT sandwich order had just come out from the back carrying the BLT with gloved hands and handed it to the cashier who grabbed the sandwich with his bare hands. He asked me what was wrong and I explained how unsanitary that was and he claimed he had just washed his hands but offered to have another one made. I told him I would take his word and took the sandwich. The sandwich was on a very soft, almost Wonder Bread quality.Not a good look for a French bakery. While it had ample bacon, we were only able to detect 1/2 a grape tomato and it had fallen out of the sandwich. No other tomato was seen in the sandwich. While we were eating a man came from outside holding his table number up and he apparently had been waiting along time as he was not a happy camper. A customer ordered a Croque Monsieur (which was room temperature at best btw). I have never seen one served like that. They're usually cooked to order. This customer asked nicely if they could cut it in half and the person behind the counter said "We have knives!" meaning the plastic cutlery and she could cut it herself. Not a nice way to put it. He could have said there were utensils (and point to where they are) and she could use a plastic knife there to cut it. Even better, provide good customer service and cut it for her.Yet they have a huge jar near the register asking for tips. You would think the place had just opened but that's not the case but it's still no excuse for these things to happen. We may go back early to try all the croissants but I haven't tried the baguette yet. However, they didn't do anything that would compel me to do so. read more

First and last visit today. Customer service nonexistent here. It takes a lot more effort to be rude than kind. Put a smile on, you're in the service industry. Food was mediocre. Prices didn't reflect quality of food. Did not feel like a French experience whatsoever. Only thing I would recommend is the plain croissant. Skip on the coffee. Wasn't good. Five stars for the croissant. Really nice! The chocolate croissant was decent. The two pastries I tried were really mediocre. The eclair was not very good. I don't think they use pate a choux, it was more like a cake dough. Same with the Mille feuille . Didn't seem like puff pastry, was more like a layered cake. read more

The coffee drinks were the right temperature and they were brought out to us. The smoked salmon tartine was very good...I'll get that again. My friend had a plain croissant and she said it was the right texture on the outside and the inside. My only qualm is that cash is not accepted. I went yesterday, Saturday and they were sold out. Got up early and went today, Sunday. Waited for 1/2 hour and there were a few pastries left so I asked for one of everything in the case on the left then got a tart, eclair and Marquise. I was lucky to get the last baguette that just came out of the oven. I think I spoke to the owner and he was so nice. Will be back and hopefully they will have the flan... I tried this place when it was about two weeks old. I had a cappuccino, Chocolate croissant, and I tried a bread, but I don't remember which one. Everything was delicious. I will say this place has been so hyped up that the waiting in line was 45 minutes and it took about an hour to get food and drink. I'm not taking off any stars though because they are brand new and I heard they were so overwhelmed with orders that they didn't have enough ingredients and couldn't bake fast enough. I don't think they anticipated how many people would want to dine there. The owners are extremely friendly and personable. So exciting to have a French bakery in Danville. We ordered quiche, croque monsieur and a raisin croissant. We had to send the quiche back for re-heating. Warm on the outside but cold on the inside. Good food, horrendous service. Ordered a Matcha Latte. Got a regular Latte and had to go back to ask them to correct it. For the 3rd time visiting, I ordered a Croque Monsieur to go and for the 3rd time, they said they'd call my name when the order was ready and they didn't. When I walked up to the counter, they ignored me like I was cutting the line until I forcefully stepped in and said, "Do you not see me standing here? I never got my order." Then the guy behind the counter said he needed to finish up with the customer he's with because he ignored me originally to get to the customer. Someone else finally came up and said the kitchen staff brought out the order, but never called the name. Then I had to go back to ask for my soup. They again said they'd call forgot to call out the order. Get your operations right or you'll continue to lose business. Too bad. The food is good. The service is worse than McDonald's. At least they call out orders. read more

My partner, from France, and I loved coming here when it first opened! Finally a taste of home. However, things have declined since opening. Unfortunately, the pan suisse went from being the best we have ever had, perfectly crunchy and balanced, to overly sweet (now the only taste is of sugar). Additionally, the service has just completely deteriorated. We received our quiche + salad today without salad dressing, and despite having lots of staff standing around, we waited over 45 minutes and dishes + trash were piling up everywhere. Despite MB being our taste of home away from home, I'm not sure we will be returning, which does make us sad. read more

Maison Benoit has to solve the line problem. They have too many employees that work the food counter and only 1 cashier. Customers like the food even though it is expensive, however the line makes customers dissatisfied and irritated. The line would be easy to solve if 2 cashiers were working both registers. Maison has 2 registers to pay and it does not make sense to have only 1 register operating. Growing pains, maybe. The line has to be solved before the novelty of French pastry, sandwich's, breads, and quiche wears off. Also, they are always out of orange juice. They have the fancy orange machine, however they run out of oranges. The solution is to send an employee across the street to lunardi's to buy oranges. read more

Was super excited to try this place! Their pastries look phenomenal but unfortunately they taste much different than they look. I'm not convinced everything is made fresh daily because the bread in the salmon toast was so tough we couldn't even cut it with a knife (salmon was very good though), the crust in the flan tarte wasn't flakey but chewy, and the spinach quiche was soggy. The flavor was good and I'm sure they'd taste much better fresh. We also bought two chocolate almond croissants and a chocolate croissant, which were decent but the amount of chocolate in the regular chocolate croissant was minimal. Overall I'd be willing to give this place a second chance in hopes things tasted fresher but not in a rush to go back soon. It's nice that there's free parking in the back and it's easy to find. Staff is kind and easy to talk to; busser is awesome and very on top of cleaning tables. You can tell this is a local hangout spot and that they have their regulars. It's a cute place to visit and I feel like they did their best to capture the French cafe essence. read more

I needed this as I really miss French bread and pastries. Everything is delicious and brings me back home for a moment. I drive for 30 minutes to come here bi-weekly (I cut and freeze 10 baguettes every two weeks) One little critic: When you order online, it says "come get your order directly at the register", however every time I come, and skip the line, all the employees completely ignore me standing there... and I have to awkwardly stare and signal my presence to pick-up my order. @Benoit- thanks for the reply; appreciate your perspective after speaking with your team members. Not sure why speaking to the customer to get their perspective wouldn't also be a consideration...but I'm not surprised as I now see 14 reviews about poor customer service, with several not responded to at all, or a 'we hope to do better next time you visit' response. And actually, you were there for my second visit a few weeks ago when the exact same thing happened of being ignored (along with another customer who was standing there frustrated and said he'd been waiting longer than I), and when you walked by I got your attention...your reaction was to turn around and call out to a young lady to come help us...and when she didn't immediately respond to your call, you elevated your voice 2 more times to the point of yelling AT her...and she turned to you with an incredulous look while she barked back at you that she was doing something! So, I'd say your employees are quite used to verbal abuse...since I witnessed it first-hand. As to MY supposed abuse, I'm sure you have security footage- I would recommend you watch it for yourself. There you'll be able to verify the details outlined in my original review of being intentionally ignored, employees huddling together, drinking from their water bottle, with customers standing there...then when I express my frustration, having a combative employee who seemed intent on escalating the situation by defending herself, instead of simply saying I'm sorry for the wait. In the footage, you'll see my "F-bombs" were "I just don't understand why everyone thinks it's OK to intentionally f&@%ing ignore a customer and go chat with your buddies instead?" after being addressed by your combative employee. You'll also see after finally getting my drinks and about to leave, I CALMLY asked a simple question of, "Please explain what I'm supposed to do when I come to pickup my order in the future, so this doesn't continue to happen?"...and her response was to tell me AGAIN that I was wrong by accusing her of ignoring me. Which is when I asked for a manager, as this employee was clearly missing the point that this conversation shouldn't be about if my general statement of employees ignoring customers should exclude her...it WAS about this being my 3rd time visiting your establishment and spending $60+ for a to-go order and then standing there awkwardly feeling like there is a process I don't understand after being ignored by baristas who clearly don't think it's in their job description to make eye contact with customers and help them. Thus, I promise to adhere to your banishment from your establishment...as I am able to take a step back and say that I wish I hadn't had my buttons pushed by your righteous combatant employee...and probably could have handled the situation with more grace. But, likewise hope that you can take a step back and acknowledge that your employees need some service training...and your pickup orders process needs a better structure, in that if you're doing the volume you are, with as many pickup orders as I've seen on the shelves when I've visited, that you might want a process that hangs a sign of where to go for pickup orders...and staff accordingly with someone responsible for actually greeting pickup customers that walk up to the sign and getting them their orders in a more timely manner....such that they feel valued and appreciated, instead of an afterthought of additional revenue that we don't need to serve, and in the way. read more

We got great advice from Negar that we should order only enough cake for about 75% of your guests, and sure enough, that was plenty. Not only was the cake beautiful, but it tasted just as good. It was so moist, and you can really tastes the strawberry flavor in the filling. It was just as we remembered from the tasting. We had so many compliments on the cake. So don't give up if you can't reach Negar. She does everything herself, and is a totally sweet person to work with. The cake will be worth it.

Glancing at the menu, you can tell that After By Tori is pricier than your average bulk box of cookies at a grocery store, but you get the high quality that you pay for :-) They are open and receptive to feedback on their products and packaging as well. The staff were super efficient, and as soon as I got inside, I was in and out with my order in no time. The ambiance here is lovely--it felt like stepping into a modern, stylish bakery in Paris. The decor was chic and cozy, and I loved being able to see the pastry chefs working their magic behind the glass. It added such a fun touch to the experience! I ordered a variety of croissants for my family: two plain, two chocolate, one almond, and one with chocolate chips and custard. I visited Maison Benoit on a Sunday morning around 11 AM, and there was a long line out the door! Thankfully, the line moved pretty quickly, so the wait wasn't too bad. I decided to get a croissant, pain au chocolat, and a pavlova. So far, I've only tried the croissant, and MY WORD - it's probably the best croissant I've had in the Bay Area! It's even better than the Instagram-hyped Arsicault and Bouchon Bakery's croissant. This croissant was so buttery and flaky - absolute perfection. I also loved the vibes of the cafe. The outdoor seating really brought life to the sidewalk, making the space feel lively and inviting. I wish this kind of seating were more popular here - it adds so much charm. Parking was a bit tricky, as I had to search a little for street parking, but it was free, which was a nice bonus! My wife and I decided to try Maison Benoit during the week. We waited in line and everything LOOKED (key word here) great. We bought a variety of baked goods and departed, oh only after we discovered that they didn't take cash (one star off). We got our goods home for us and the rest of the family and were all very disappointed. Something common in the Tri-valley, it looked way better than it tasted.
