I sort of waffled between a 4 and a 5 but I really really enjoyed my experience here so I'll round up! Came in for a bite after work last week. It was later in the afternoon (like 2ish) so the restaurant was fairly quiet when I entered. It's located on a corner as you enter Hartselle's downtown area. I always find parking to be challenging around Main Street, so I parked in a large lot about two blocks down and just walked over to not have to battle with traffic and parallel parking. The inside is beautiful and has a first and second floor. The vibe is pretty much perfect; it reminds me a little of a bistro, with sort of a classical aura but without tackiness or over-grandiosity. The music selection matched the ambiance perfectly. There are lovely large windows and cozy as well as more traditional seating options. I walked my way back to the counter, passing the beautiful baked goods, where I was asked if I'd like a lunch menu or coffee and a pastry. When I indicated I wanted to eat lunch, I was encouraged to sit and relax and let them grab me a menu and a drink. The service was lovely all around; I was checked on plenty and they seemed genuinely concerned about whether or not I enjoyed myself (I did)! They were also very helpful and friendly when I placed a to go order for some pastries for later. Sweet and charming conversationalists! The sweet tea I had to drink was legit some of the best tea I've had in a long time. I know they offer Piper and Leaf tea and I wonder if it was their take on Front Porch Special. I love that tea. At any rate, it was perfectly sweet and flavorful. I ordered the pimento cheese BLT. They have upgraded side options for an extra charge but I was content with the kettle chips. The sandwich was made on a nice soft but chewy bread -- sourdough? -- and the smoked Gouda pimento cheese had just enough smoke. The bacon was absolutely delicious, crispy and so flavorful. The lettuce was more of a mix and I enjoyed that as opposed to just romaine. Truly my only criticism of lunch is I wish that the bread would've been toasted, or that I'd been offered the opportunity to have it toasted. I'd wished for a little warmth on my sandwich. I got a kitchen sink type of cookie and a white chocolate raspberry scone to go for a treat later. These didn't knock my socks off quite as much as lunch did, but both were enjoyable, the cookie especially. Lots of goodies inside and a good balance of chewy and crispy. I could've gone for a little more both raspberry and white chocolate, but my husband really liked it -- he said it tasted like a fancy poptart lol. Overall, I really really enjoyed my visit here. I am from Huntsville and my friend is from Double Springs. Hartselle is a perfect middle place for us to meet. We have been meeting there on a regular basis for over a year - loved the food, the coffee, the ambience and the table by the window. Service was great. We met there today and found that they have re-branded. No more breakfast- just some pastries. The pumpkin spice latte had just a hint of nutmeg. The muffin was just like a Costco muffin. The window table was replaced with merchandise. The server was confused about the order. Nothing was wrong, per se, but it lacks the charm and deliciousness that it had. I can't say I won't be back, but I can say that it isn't our special spot anymore. read more

You go to the counter to order and can take food to go or sit down to be served. The food is pricey but it's worth it. I had the tomato soup and a panini. My husband had a salad. We also got carrot cake and strawberry cake slices to go. The service and the food were great. read more

Watch the pricing when ordering & especially when paying. Our group had not been told there would be a $20 minimum. My order was slightly under that, and the cashier could not tell me what I could add to get it to $20. Rather than holding up the line, I ordered a take-out of same order. With a 20% gratuity and several % fee for credit card usage (had not been told that or would have paid cash), my bill totaled over $36. The chicken salad I brought home I did not eat as it was not good when I ate it there. I always offer good tips, but I usually know what a required one is. I am not sure why this place does not have thousands of reviews, pictures and videos. This is the most beautiful bakery café in North Alabama. The minute you walk through the doors you will feel welcome, and, like you were transported to a different time era. From the music, the decor, The hospitable employees, everything was absolutely perfect. The bakery goods are plentiful, fresh, not to mention delicious. I found my new favorite hang out and will be making the drive on a weekly basis. I did not want to leave! If I could actually move into one of the rooms, I would do that. I have seen the signs off of I 65 south before, but never realized how special of a place this was until I actually got here. I will definitely be going back. whoever had a hand in designing, decorating, baking, and adding any kind of musical influence to this place, well done! read more

This place is wonderful! You can make reservations on tables which is a plus when bringing a large group! The managers there are always polite and helpful and prove that assisting customers to the best of their possibilities is their goal! Ignore the people who made the bad reviews. Because this place is so worth it! I met the owner too and she was absolutely amazing and very polite. But before you do go here. There is in-fact a 3% additional charge for credit/debit card usage. So I highly recommend paying with cash! And the food is amazing! So regardless it is worth it. read more

We talked to someone at the bakery about hosting a group of 11 for my sister's birthday lunch. We were told we had to purchase the cake through them, but were told we didn't have to pay the reservation fee to reserve the upstairs room because it was not a large group and they would seat other patrons upstairs in the room with us. The day of the party we were treated quite rudely by the owner. We simply asked for three tables to be pushed together. She snipped and said it was turning out to be more of a party and we should have had to pay a room reservation fee. Then once everyone in our group arrived, we went downstairs to order where we were told that each member had to make a $20 minimum purchase. This was never communicated to us prior. We were simply a group of 11 who had made a reservation. We would have gladly had other patrons in the upstairs room with us, but guess what? They didn't have enough patrons to fill the downstairs tables, much less have overflow to be put upstairs. I ordered the honey pecan chicken salad, and it honestly was the worst chicken salad I've ever had. It was large chunks of canned chicken, and I gagged on my first bite. I will never visit this business again. read more
