Good coffee drinks and food, great prices! Comfy, relaxed atmosphere, perfect for catching up with a friend or for having some alone time to relax.

Iced white knight
Bailey B.

I gave this place a try while swinging by Decatur for work. They have a drive through for drinks at least, which I wasn't expecting but definitely appreciated. Service was friendly enough and suggested a White Knight when I asked which of their specialty mocha drinks they liked the best. I ordered that (but iced) and it came out quickly. The price was reasonable. Unfortunately, I wasn't super crazy about it. It mainly tasted like regular coffee with a LOT of milk in it. That was all I could taste: coffee and milk with a touch of sweetness, but in a nondescript, vaguely plain sugar kind of way. I didn't taste any of the white chocolate or vanilla flavors that were supposed to be there. If I'm ever around and craving coffee again, I'd give this place another try and go for something more milk or dark chocolate-y. I think that would suit me better or at least provide a more varied flavor profile than just coffee and milk.

Tuna melt sandwich and Iced White Knight to drink
Jessica G.

I absolutely LOVE Java Jaay! It's one of my favorite spots in Decatur to grab a coffee and a sandwich! I always get the iced white knight to drink. It's so good, not too sweet and not too bitter. And I get the tuna melt sandwich to eat, and it's so good.

3.5/5. I came here…read moreto grab a few donuts to take home with me a week or two ago. To be totally transparent, I honestly am not the hugest fan of donuts, so my opinion may not be the most informed. There's plenty of room to park and I like that they stay open a little later than many other places that offer donuts. It's more spacious than I thought it would be inside and there are a few tables to sit at. The trash cans looked a little full and one table had some sugar spilled on it but other than that it was clean and warm. Donuts are displayed in a case by the register. There were a LOT of choices and I remember it being mostly unlabeled so I kind of had to guess based on appearance. There was a menu on the wall but one couldn't necessarily 100% reliably match the listed items to their counterparts in the case. Not a huge deal, but would be a positive change imo to add labels next to the actual donuts. Anyway, I wound up with a chocolate cake donut, a blueberry cake donut, and a chocolate glazed regular/fried donut with peanuts on top. The woman operating the cashier was supremely pleasant and really made my visit - she was just so warm and friendly. She threw in a couple donut holes, either as a kindness or perhaps because they were nearing closing time anyway. Regardless, the were appreciated! I brought the donuts home to my husband and we ate them for dessert later. He likes fried donuts more so he got about 80% of the fried (I wanted a little bite lol), I ate the blueberry donut, and we split the chocolate cake donut and donut holes. The holes were airy and had a nice vanilla flavor. The traditional fried donut was a little dry and the glaze a little waxy, but the peanuts were a nice addition. The chocolate cake donut was heavy and the sugary exterior was crackly in a way I didn't particularly love, but it was tolerable. The blueberry cake donut was my favorite part, as it was fluffy and not overly sweet. Again, I tend to be kind of hard on donuts because they're just not my favorite treat, so definitely give them a shot and see for yourself how you feel about them. Kudos for the lovely and kind service.

I love all nerdy things and had pinned Current on my to-try collection a while back. It's a little easy to miss driving around, but my GPS got me there. Parking is pretty limited -- the business next door had to ask some people to move because they'd created a spot behind the worker's truck, lol -- but I had a lovely experience once I found my way inside! They have a pretty large menu for a game cafe, and much of it is vegan or vegetarian. Pressed sandwiches, burgers, baked goodies, smoothies, all kinds of coffee drinks, and salads/wraps. I wanted something warm, light, and comforting. As simple as it may be, I was thrilled to find a pressed PB&J on the menu for a low price. I was offered my selection of a surprisingly large number of jellies (strawberry for me!) and my sandwich came out quickly. I had both a sweet tea and a latte -- hydration and stimulation! Lol. The food was good, and my mint mocha latte tasted just like an Andes mint. My favorite part of this place, though, is the vibe! Nerdy and inclusive. Wish all places could be like that. :) Fun merchandise from all kinds of anime, shows, games, movies, etc; board games; a tidy all-gender restroom; Pride flags of different flavors everywhere...it really did feel like a pocket of welcomeness. I don't see enough spaces like that in the southeast, sadly, and so it's extra nice when you do come across it. There were lots of teens and folks wearing alternative style hanging around in cozy couches and tables playing games and I just love to see it! While the game and card selection isn't /massive/, it's perfectly satisfying (remember -- not a ton of space in the building) and the staff was more than willing to help with people's questions. This is a wonderful space to hang out, make new friends (if games/anime/nerd culture is your scene), and grab a bite to eat. Give it a go if it sounds like your speed!

Now it's new and beautiful. The restroom was clean and well appointed. My barista was welcoming and cheerful. The three others were super busy with mobile orders and the drive-thru. This is a tiny building with seating for about 16 people. The reason for a 4 star review instead of 5 stars is the insane policy management imposes regarding coffee blend choice. Everyone complains about how bitter the Pike Place roast is, but that is the only option available without a pour-over after 9AM. Many other Starbucks have the same policy but push it until after noon. Starbucks sells many other roasts that taste great. Can't they keep one of them available pre-brewed? I've been to several other stores across the country where they featured a different roast in addition to the Pike Place roast all day long. Perhaps this store is too small to make that policy profitable. The previous negative reviews should show management that they need to step up to provide a better experience. The new building is a great start... now make better coffee. Here's some specific information for driving access. It's easy to get into the Starbucks parking lot and its drive-thru. The handicapped parking space is ~25-30' from the front entrance. Not ideal. There's a single driveway entrance which can get congested. As you exit it, be aware that you will be forced to turn right onto the main highway's service road. The reason for this is that a left turn will lead you to a (no left turn) situation where getting back onto the eastbound main highway requires using some parking lot diversion. The stoplight at the intersection you probably used (when you turned off the main highway) is not accessible directly. Instead your nav will send you a quarter mile to an intersection further west even if your next destination is east. I took the option of making that forced right turn and then making a U-turn equivalent by using a business parking lot immediately on the right.

For lunch you can choose from a large selection of sandwiches as well as the daily special. Today's special was Poulet de Normandy and a side item. The cafe ladies even made sure our glasses of tea were topped up as we left so we could take them to go. There is a patio room that is available for groups of up to 16. You should call in advance to reserve the space for your group. I think this is a wonderful idea for a spa know that I was impressed by the friendliness of the French Door Staff as they greeted us and pointed us to the Cafe. It was fairly full on a Tuesday for lunch so we had to sit by the front door. The menu is fairly simple and includes specialty sandwiches, salads and soups, a couple desserts and not much else. For as large as this space is, you would think they would serve more food items. Maybe their kitchen is just very small, not sure. The server indicated many of their sandwiches are steamed. I tried one of their sandwiches, the casa grande without olives, with a side (potato salad) and a homemade banana pudding. Sandwich - this is a pretty good sandwich that is moist due to the steaming and a lot of mustard and mayo. They also forgot to take off the olives though. Potato salad - their version is like a German potato salad with some skin showing and plenty of mustard as the base. The problem was it was too chunky with a chunk of potato the size of my fist. This is just too big to bite. Banana pudding - pretty good but very sweet My colleague's sandwich was decent too, but he also had a problem with some soggy bread. The service was decent as both our soft drinks were refilled promptly.
