Getting new tires in Athens the other week, I (sadly) noticed an obituary on their bulletin board for Cheryl Prince Sendowski who owned the coffee shoppe from 1998 until it was sold in 2013. This was one spot my Birthday Club group met at in the late 80s and early 90s. We enjoyed their simplistic sandwiches and iced teas. I'm not a coffee snob by any stretch, and their coffee doesn't evoke great memories for me; however, I do recall it being "fair trade," even back then. The sandwiches were good, the place was nice to relax in, and the back patio was even more eclectic with various statuary and just "stuff" hanging from the fence. Sandwiches were nothing you can't make at home, but they were good, edible, quick and filling! The community bulletin board was always clustered with fliers and business cards for music lessons, missing pets, and pressure washers. It's a local's place for locals and had one regular, Mike Maples who was conferred with the title "Mayor" of Ole Town Coffee. The gazebo out front is quaint to sit in. Do know parking is tight. There aren't many spaces out front to park. I think the back alley may have some spots. For a slice of Huntsville, I would recommend visiting OTC!

There's more outdoor seating than indoor seating. Prices seem relatively cheaper than other coffee places I've been to in town. I ended up ordering a bagel with strawberry cream cheese and a plain latte with oat milk. The strawberry cream cheese was served in a plastic container, and seemed different from store bought cream cheese. It had a date of 1-12, but still seemed weirdly dried on the outside. Anyways, the bagel was good. The latte was just okay. Nothing special. Not sure if people order any different drinks while they're here, but I'm definitely tempted to come back and try some of the teas they have.

They have lots of comfy indoor seating and a small patio as well. They have a fairly in-depth selection of typical coffeeshop food -- sandwiches, bagels, muffins, etc. They have a LOT of baked goods and dessert type offerings, and a large cooler with grab and go snacks and desserts, like pasta salad, juices and other cold drinks, and even cheesecake and strawberry pretzel salad. Service was adequate - seemed a bit in a hurry to complete my order. I noticed by the time I was done collecting a straw, some napkins, etc, the barista had rejoined her friends seated on some of the couches to chat. Still, she wasn't impolite and my order was prepared quickly and correctly, so not a huge deal. I ordered a smaller sized iced latte with both peanut butter and chocolate fudge flavorings. They have a massive list of flavor shots you can add to your lattes, which was fun! Didn't see any specialty drinks of their own creation but I figured you couldn't go wrong with a peanut butter cup type of deal, thus my selection. I wasn't disappointed! It was sweet and creamy and had the right amount of ice. Honestly maybe a little low on espresso flavor (perhaps a smidge too much milk?) but I was happy overall. I also got a cookie for dessert later that evening. It looked like one of those no-bake oatmeal chocolate cookies. I enjoyed that, too. Overall, I'd definitely return for another drink if and when I find myself in the area again. This seems to be some of the only game in town for coffee, but luckily it's a solid option! I am glad they have different coffee drinks nowadays, including espresso tonics, which have become my favorite for summertime. The food menu is small, but covers the basics. Rather than look over a wine list, I just asked for a glass of pinot grigio. The young man gave me the saddest pour I have seen in my life, again, in the requisite plastic purple Solo cup, and guess what this regrettable purchase cost me? $12.00. For a little more than double that cost, at about $26.00 I can get an entire bottle of Italian pinot grigio at Nick's ristorante, which is 4 *full* glasses!!!! Originally, I wanted to see what kinds of wines they had for sale; however, after this very transactional and impersonal interaction, I was ready to leave. I would suggest that management/owners train their personnel on wines and have them attend actual wine tastings with a sommelier and learn a few talking points about the various types and vineyards they represent. Staff should mingle with patrons to see what the person is interested in (would they like a dry white wine bottle to drink inside, a purple cup "to go," or several bottles for an upcoming event) and encourage things both that the customer prefers or is just outside the customer's comfort zone and peaks the patron's interest. I would also suggest they select staff who actually have a personality.
