We were on the west side of Huntsville and decided to visit Jon Smith Subs again. The Authentic Italian is still hitting flavor memories and both of us said YOLO! We arrived after 1 and the restaurant had 2 customers. We were warmly greeted and placed a to go order. The restaurant is very clean. The footlong Authentic Italian hits all flavor profiles for an Italian sub. Both of us cannot eat enough of the Authentic Italian. The combination of meats complement each other very well. Our favorite sub here. 5/5 We tried a footlong Chicken Bomb this time. I loved it. To me, the chicken tasted so much better. Both of us were surprised at how delicious the chicken was since the Steak is the most popular sub. 5/5 I signed up my first visit to be a rewards member. I was able to get $5 off my order yesterday. Really wanted to like this place as I love a good deli sandwich and they are near me. Unfortunately, not sure if I tried the wrong item or if it was a bad day. I tried the Cajun steak with Cajun fries. The fries had twice the flavor than the steak. Honestly, the steak didn't have a Cajun taste, much less any seasoning really. This place constantly is terrible. Can't ever get a single order right. I'm finally done trying with them. Tonight I ordered a classic chicken, got a Philly. Asked for no onions on the classic chicken, got plenty of onions. I also order the Italian with mayo and onions. Got it with no mayo nor onions. The bread was very hard and somewhat stale. The fries were either very overcooked or they were very old. Ordered the kids meatball sandwich. Literally 3 little tomatoes were the sauce. Forgot the chips with the kids meal. I picked up a sandwich from here on my way home from work the other day. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. JSS seems to be a small chain. I remember an announcement about another opening somewhere in Huntsville a long time ago but idk if that's still happening or not. I'd definitely visit if it's anything like this one! I was sort of hesitant to go bc I'd seen mostly iffy reviews, but while waiting for my sandwich I saw newer reviews saying the place was under new management. Whatever the case, my food was very good, the restaurant was very clean, and the workers were very nice and professional! A door alarm alerts staff that you've arrived; it was an unobtrusive noise but it did ensure I and others were served promptly. The menu board was a little hard for me to see (small print and I came in sans glasses), but I was pretty sure I wanted a cheesesteak, so I ordered their signature "steak bomb" with no tomatoes. It's like a slightly fancier Philly with bacon and green peppers. I got the smallest size sandwich combo, which comes with fries and a small drink cup. The drink cup is quite small here but you can get refills if you eat inside so that worked fine. While I waited for my food, I used the lady's restroom to wash up. It was very clean! My food came out shortly afterward and it was clearly made very fresh. Everything was piping hot. The waitstaff was nice enough to bring it to me, which was a pleasant and unexpected touch. The fry serving size was enormous for a small! Everything was really good! I wish more sandwich shops offered fries in addition to chips bc I love fries so much. These fries were piping hot and crispy shoestrings, a bit like McDonald's. My only complaint is I could have used more salt or some seasoning or something; they were just a little bit bland. Still very enjoyable and plentiful! My sandwich rocked! It was a little hard to eat because it had so many toppings, but they all came together in a delicious symphony of meaty, cheesy, steaming hot goodness. I liked the bread too -- and it held up pretty well, despite the litany of toppings. I thought the bacon and bright green peppers were great additions. The friendly staff wished me a nice day on my way out. Would happily order again! Shame they're so far from me. I hope that other location comes to fruition someday because I like this chain about as much as Jersey Mike's (JM sandwiches maybe slightly better, but there are fries here!) and much more than Capriotti's. Excellent experience! The place was very clean and the staff were friendly. The health rating was 100 and the bathrooms were clean. The menu covers almost any individual taste you may have. My cajun steak sub was yummy, and the fries were outstanding. My only criticism is the size of the drinking cup. I had to make three or four trips to the fountain, but I will say the fountain drinks were mixed properly. Too many places cheap out and try to give you less syrup then they should. One of the best sub shops around. This spot is setup fast casual style - not "build your sub" style like Subway and other sandwich shops. You'll spend a bit more, but it's definitely worth it. $15ish gets you a 12-inch sub heaped with protein, a 20oz drink, and 20oz cup full of fresh fries (almost reminiscent of Five Guys). It's incredibly refreshing to visit a sandwich shop that breaks the mold by being generous with meat and offering better sides than a bag of chips. Service was fast and friendly. We tried the manager's special - Maple Bacon Chicken - and the signature Steak Bomb. Highly recommend both. read more

I decided to give Jon Smith Subs another chance. I hate to base my opinions off of one experience, so I just decided to try a different sandwich. I decided to try their Philly Cheesesteak (specifically, the "Steak Bomb"). It was pretty good. The fries were excellent. The only thing that prevents this from being a "5-star" dining experience was the price. I mean, I realize that inflation is hurting everybody right now, but I have a hard time swallowing a sandwich meal that costs north of $20 ($22.18 + a tip = $26.58). For that price, I can almost fly up to Philly & get a local sandwich. I have been to several other sub shops and the price was a little more palatable. Don't get me wrong, the food (this time) was excellent, but I don't see myself going there too often because this price tag was higher than I prefer. read more

Jon Smith Subs recently opened and was fairly busy. I placed a to-go order and the wait was long but that was probably due to the inexperienced crew. I'll excuse the wait this time. I ordered the Gator and it was very good. I was surprised about the amount of meat on the bread. My wife's sandwich was missing lettuce and tomato and she was very disappointed. While waiting for my order I noticed two customers bring subs back that were not correctly made so they had some quality problems. The large fry is more than enough to feed 3 or 4 people; I'll get the small next time. The prices are a little high, but food prices have increased everywhere. I will try them again, but will give them some time to get the kinks out of the kitchen. read more

Great subs! I've been here a couple of times and I will say it's been consistently good. I will say you need time to figure out what you like. The Tuna Bomb is my go to! (Don't judge me lol ) I'll pass on the Cajun. It's very spicy and their BBQ sauce taste like liquid smoke. Start off with any of their subs that have the 'bomb' sign. Those are going to be good! I promise. And always get the fries. Medium will feed two, but if you're a fry lover... get the large. And get them Cajun. TRUST ME. Great spot for a quick lunch! Traveling in the area and they don't have Jon Smith Subs back home. I stopped here 5 minutes before they closed trying to grab food for my family after getting done at a softball tournament nearby. I was worried that they would turn me away and rightfully so. However the staff was very friendly and accommodating. In addition. I added 4 drinks after u already paid for my order.
