I made a recent visit to this Schlotzsky's (in Madison, Alabama) and I had a great experience. I have not been to any Schlotzsky's location in over thirty years, and I realized that this was a huge mistake while visiting here. The primary reason I came here was because it appeared to be a good restaurant that was within walking distance to where I was staying and I needed to get something for dinner. As I approached, I was pleased with the cleanliness in the parking lot, along with the the Schlotzsky's signage and the pleasant entryway. Shortly after entering, I was surprised to find that I was the only customer inside. This location has a lot of indoor seating available, and there was not a single person here. Since I have not been to any Schlotzsky's location in a very long time it took me a few minutes to consider what I wanted to eat from their menu. The menus displayed inside behind the cashier provide a lot of great options, and I was pleased to see a great number of things I'd like to try. After finally making my selection, a pleasant and professional young man took my order. I was happy that he was very patient with me while I took a few minutes to decide. After ordering, I looked around inside this establishment while waiting for my order. The indoor dining area was well-kept and spotlessly clean. Everything was well organized inside, including all furniture, drink dispensers, condiments, eating utensils, and decorations. Shortly after ordering, a young woman came out to give me my meal. She was also incredibly pleasant, friendly and professional, and she made sure I had everything I needed before departing. After getting back to my hotel to eat, I was really pleased with my decision to come here. I ended up ordering the "Sausage & Peppers Calzone" along with their "Loaded Baked Potato Soup" and a large Sprite. It was way too much to eat for dinner, so I ended up eating the leftovers the next day for lunch. The meal was incredibly delicious. As noted earlier, I have not visited any Schlotzsky's location in a very long time. Clearly this was a mistake on my part. I remember when Schlotsky's first came to Huntsville.In a big town with lots of contenders it is still one of my favorite places to get a sandwich and chips to go. Their freshly made bread and good selection of meats and vegetables still stands out from the many subs and burger places. Their freshly made child size is perfect for me. Try them out. The thought of a good hot sandwich on muffuletta buns can make some folks who have relocated feel homesick. read more

Long story short I only tried their Cinnabon. It was very overpriced. I got six Jumbo Cinnabon's and it was $30.99 Wow. It was really good food but The service was bad. How on earth is this place still open? The last time I ate here was nearly 20 years ago. Today I was reminded of why that is. One sandwich, one drink, and a two pack of cinnamon rolls came in at more than $20. Honestly, I stopped here for the cinnamon rolls because my daughter really likes those. I was really hungry, so I figured I would give them a try. What a mistake! Not only was it expensive, the behemoth sandwich was grease filled, and my second bite reminded me of why I don't care for Schlotzsky's. The mustard sauce! Yuck. There is no untasting it, and there is no taking it off of your sandwich. I wish that I could gift it to one of the other yelpers who scored Schlotzsky's at more than three stars. Hitting the drive-through and driving away is on me. The nasty greasy sandwich that didn't mention the mustard sauce in the description is on them... -2 stars. Then there was the issue with my Dr Pepper. How do you mess up Dr Pepper? You do not calibrate your drink machine, or you are stingy and do not change out the syrup when it needs it. My Dr Pepper was colored carbonated water. Minus one star. As for the remaining two stars, one for each cinnamon roll... because this place is a Schlotzsky's/Cinnabon. This is the first time I ordered an original sandwich since the sour dough bread was changed. I was very disappointed that it wasn't the original sourdough bread. The new bread was very light in color and much thicker. I felt like the extra bread detracted from the flavor of the sandwich. Definitely not a fan! read more

The manager fixed an accidental typo and gave a refund for me misordering our lunch. Easily took care of it with a smile on his face and we got our food promptly. It was hot, delicious, and the area was super clean. They take a lot of pride in their store and it shows. If you haven't had their Bacon SmokeCheesy, you are missing out. The last few times I wanted a sandwich, I've settled for Subway or Firehouse, but never again. This locations sandwich was top tier in taste, freshness, and just blew away any expectation I had. Schlotzsky's was the place for lunch on Tuesday. Given my busy schedule I had to find a quick place to eat and I remember I hadn't been to Schlotzskys in a long time. A recent advertisement mentioned they had a new brisket sandwich so I pull into Schlotzsky's parking lot with a plan. Schlotzsky's building is plain on the outside and inside, but can seat a large number of customers. Plus they have a side room that can handle overflow or provide a perfect meeting location for groups and functions. On this Tuesday the restaurant wasn't busy and I was able to walk up and place my order. I ordered the new brisket sandwich, chips and a drink. I found a two-person table and sat down and they quickly brought out my food. The sandwich was very plain and lacked flavor. I found some red chili flake seasoning and used it to kick the sandwich up a notch. I like Schlotzsky's sourdough buns, which helped the sandwich. The chips are in a Schlotzsky's bag and I couldn't tell who the real potato chip maker was, but the chips were good. The restaurant was clean and orderly. I saw employees, when not waiting on customers, wiping down tables and the drink area. The sandwich was nothing to write home about, but I was able to get in and out quickly. The Board of Health score was a very good 97 and my ticket was $12.50. read more

Okay now I get it! New to this chain restaurant I wasn't sure how the made Deli sandwiches unique and now I know. It's round discs that are not quite a roll more of a mini loaf. I had the pumpernickel as part of the Angus Pastrami and Swiss. It's just okay I'm taste and quality based on my NY/NJ pallet. I've been to some of the country's best delis. The medium sized sandwich is plenty for any appetite. It's warm and melty cheese just enough mustard and hits the spot. I came out of curiosity and know that if I am jones'n a sandwich I can trust Schlotzyky's will be a fair choice. The staff are friendly and quick. The place is bright and clean and there is a huge parking lot. I limited them to 3 stars because they had a couple empty iced tea containers and well... it's a chain restaurant. Stunned by the positive reviews. They made a good sandwich decades ago, but today, no. 1. on entering the broken front door, it smelled like burned meat 2. the albacore tuna sandwich is no longer available 3. order taking was extremely impersonal and unfriendly 4. food was brought to the table, but was dropped in front of us like a hot potato without a glimmer of acknowledgement 5. the garden salad had several very rotten leaves and came with less than a tea spoon of dressing 6. The bread the make for the original sandwich can't be beat, in my opinion. If I could I would just buy the bread and have it for dinner. I would like another location in Decatur. I know the last one closed, but not I didn't go there. I did. A lot. Obviously the people of Decatur didn't discover it's bread. KUDOS TO THE MADISON, ALABAMA LOCATION: This comes about 1/2 year or 34 sandwiches too late, but is still current! I "won" the weekly freebie last December for the Small Deluxe Original at my local Schlotzsky's. So I have "faithfully" picked up my FREE sandwich each week ...last ate sandwich #34 out of 52 ...LOL! I use to walk inside, but now I just go thru drive-thru, as I usually have my dog with me now (too hot to leave her in car). Probably should "walk-in" more, as my waistline is not too happy 34 weekly sandwiches later ...LOL! ;-) These guys all know me by first name & regular order! I almost don't even have to tell them my order (unless I'm adding something new to it), as they remember it after hearing it weekly for more than 1/2 year! However, I realized I don't think I've ever given them the BIG KUDOS they each deserve, as they definitely deserve it! So I hope I have all their names correct?!?! A MAJOR (WEEKLY) KUDOS to the following: RALPH JORDAN - as he's always been helpful! CHRIS (last name?) - he's usually the one at the drive-thru window & listens to all my "craziness" each week ...LOL! He's extremely patient, helpful & nice! The person taking the order doesn't pay enough attention and you have to repeat yourself 12 times and it isn't the cleanest but the food is just as good as any other I have been to. I have always love Schlotzsky's in North Carolina. I we moved to Madison about 2 months ago and have visited this location three times. I am not sure what the older/heavier gentleman's name is, but I will call him sourpuss. Mr. Sourpuss hates his job and should not be allowed to interact with customers. I can over look a lot but when I give the restaurant three separate chances and each time my family is greeted by rudeness and a condescending tone I have no choice but to take my business somewhere else. Ordered my food online husband went to pick up and had to wait 20 minutes past the time stated for pickup. When he got there they hadn't even started on the order. We ordered salads and soup and my kids had a pizza. The kids pizza was burnt and they complained. The same kids who like the school cafe pizza. My Caesar salad had no dressing. My loaded potato soup tasted like straight water. My husbands cobb salad had seasame seeds in it which was not stated and not normally on a Cobb salad, he is severely allergic and could not even eat his salad. This was our first trip and last. When I called to complain the guy I spoke with who said he was the manager but I don't think he was wanted to argue with me about everything. Excuse after excuse. I really like the sandwiches and pizza's at this place. The bread is fresh baked and I love the spongy yet crispy texture. No other restaurant has bread quite like this. I love all of their sandwiches and I love the fact that they offer them in 3 different sizes. The pizzas are unusual, but very good. Not the biggest but they fill me up nicely. They wouldn't compare to a typical Italian pizza restaurant but they are a nice change of pace. New on the menu are pasta bowls. I was skeptical at first, but my first pasta bowl was quite tasty and I will try them again. Very filling and full of flavor. The menu stated that it had goat cheese but the server said it was actually Feta, which was fine with me because I don't like goat cheese. My biggest complaint is the building. It's old and poorly maintained. Nothing hip or exciting about it; it reminds me of an old Sub shop. I remember Schlotzsky's restaurants in other towns that had a much more interesting decor than this one. Service is always quick but I suspect it's because I've never seen this place busy before. If they suddenly had a line of 20 people, it would probably take a while. read more

This is an average Schlotzsky's Deli. It is missing some of the drinks like the AMAZING lemonade, but everything else is good. Just make sure when you say EXTRA that it is more that the average amount. Asked for extra thousand island on Reuben and when I got the sandwich could barely taste it. read more

Looks are deceiving in a good way! My husband and I have eaten here for lunch a few times recently and it has consistently been good. The building is a little old, and it's in an older part of Madison, but the food is great. I've ordered the flatbreads each time; they are so tasty and the ingredients are really fresh. My husband likes the combo pizzas and sandwiches. Definitely a go-to for a quick and yummy lunch! read more
