However, I attended the Shoalsfest music festival this weekend and the VIP food was provided by Odette. It was horrible. Everything was so heavy and greasy. Seven layer dip and tortilla chips. Greasy corn tortillas filled with cheese. Something like chicken nuggets (or were they tater tots?). Potato chips. Some kind of Mac and cheese thing. Not expecting restaurant grade food or a full meal here. But in New Orleans this would never fly. How about mini muffalottas, or other pickup sandwiches? Big soft Philly pretzels and mustard? Cups of red beans and rice or jambalaya? Chicken drumettes? Even mini pizzas would be better. Perhaps Shoalsfest went real cheap and wouldn't spring for a classier menu. For $750 a head they should do better. Seriously, I would have told the servers to turn their T shirts inside out rather than have your restaurant associated with this awful food.

We were then handed off to a very unpleasant and unhappy person by the name of Amiah. Did not say anything to us and did not even smile. I understand it was 0800 on a Saturday but it is your whole job. She tried to seat us at a table against the wall by the window. Any other day this would have been great but the table next to us had a gentleman that had his chair scooted back so there is no way we could have sat on the one side of the table, there was not enough room to get in there even if you were Olive Oyl from Popeye. When we asked to sit one table over she rolled her eyes and let out a big sign and begrudgingly moved us. Once sat we did have a good experience. Our server Rebecca was amazing even though she was spread a bit thin due amount of tables she had.

We…read morearrived too late for dinner and left too early for breakfast, which might sound unusual, but that is the rhythm of life on the road. One of the quiet courtesies of the chain is that RVers are welcome to park overnight, with the understanding that it is not a campground. That means keeping generator use minimal, avoiding slide outs, and respecting the lot as a place to rest, not to camp. Even though we missed the main meals, we did step inside for sweets. Mrs. K. has a fondness for the lemon sticks, and while that is not much, it was something, and it honored the spirit of the arrangement. The next breakfast will be at another Cracker Barrel along our journey, and I suspect the biscuits and gravy will taste even better knowing we have kept the tradition alive. This stop was a reminder that sometimes the smallest gestures carry the weight of respect and community when traveling. [Review 1525 of 2025 - 251 in Alabama - 25075 overall]
