When we got there, there was a sign outside that stated there could be a wait due to lack of staff. This was not the case. We were acknowledged the minute we set down by a pleasant and very professional waitress When our food came, it was hot, just as we ordered it, and not greasy. Food was alright. The okra came out cold. French toast came out cold. The western omelette is pretty good. We got seated and brought out drinks. 10 minutes later we ordered and waited 45 minutes for the food. It wasn't overly busy. Nobody checked on the table in those 40-45 minutes. Maybe just an off day. #fatjared say...this is exactly what you would expect from a local diner spot in a small town in Alabama. Felt like eating in a restaurant from back in the 60s. Nothing spectacular, but a fun time. You can come here and not be disappointed I promise. Is it a hole in the wall? Yes. Is it the cleanest place in the world? No. Are there holes in the booth? Yes. Do I care about any of that? Absolutely not! When you're in the great state of Alabama, you expect places like this, and it really was good food. For my grading scale though, to get above average, you have to do something "above average". Now while there were things that were that, such as the MONSTER biscuits, which were still quite fluffy, there were other things, like the coffee, that were below average. So it evens out! The menu is reasonably priced, the portions are good, the veggies were very watery, and the ham I ordered was as salty as you would expect country ham to be. Overall, you have to come to place with the right expectations. It'll be small, it'll be country, it'll be service that makes you feel welcomes, and it'll be a positive experience. To be honest I just came here to take the ham radio license test and did not plan to eat, but when I saw the offerings on the menu and how cheap they were I had to indulge. Honestly my expectations for a five dollar fish sandwich weren't very high but I was sorely mistaken because they delivered. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. We passed up Panera and Crackle Barrel to come here bc we wanted a hole in the wall place. Our drinks were not refilled and we waited for our food for a long time while others around us were served. Once we got our food it was cold. I had to ask for it to be reheated. It was still cold. Great food and service!! We were actually on our way to Cracker Barrel and even just left Big Bad Breakfast because their dining room was packed and didn't look like they were enforcing social distancing. But came across Homeside and decided to drop in as we had remembered seeing them on Yelp. Don't think about it, just go. Prices are fantastic and the portions are double what you would get anywhere else. The biscuit itself was the size of my hand! I had the 2 eggs scrambled with bacon and a biscuit with gravy. My husband had the 3 pancakes with sausage. The pancakes were so big and fluffy he could only finish 2 of them. My eggs were scrambled and so creamy (not dried out like I've had elsewhere) and the bacon was cooked just right. I wish I had room to try the French toast and even the grits. Lots to choose from here! My only complaint is that I wish the orange juice was fresh squeezed and not tangy oj from the gallon jugs...but it didn't break our visit. I ate there this past weekend. I've eaten there before and it has mostly been pretty good. My last experience wasn't good. I got two fried eggs with "crispy" bacon - and I stressed "crispy and well done". The eggs were slathered in grease (puddled) - absolutely soaked and covered. The bacon was far from crisp / far from well done. It was also in a puddle of grease. It was absolutely disgusting. Someone who cooks like this, totally disregarded the order request. Someone who cooks like this is absolutely lazy. The easiest way to cook is throw plenty of grease on and soak everything. Which gives you something no one wants to eat. This kind of cook doesn't give a flip about customers or how the business does. I'm not ever going back to this place. I have to qualify that I have been to the other homeside in petersville and never had an experience like this one. read more

Got there rather early for breakfast. Was greeted soon as I walked in and had hot coffee in front of me in no time. Western omelet was excellent. Would highly recommend this place if you're wanting to avoid the chains and visit a local place. read more
