two cups of fruit and yogurt
    Heather L.

My daughter and I went to Nature's Table Café at Cook Museum earlier this week. We shared an Acai bowl (açaí topped with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, coconut, and granola). I got the Mango Fusion Smoothie and Chloe got the Hawaiian Crush Smoothie. It was a bit chilly for a cold breakfast, but we enjoyed it! They have lots of options for fruit smoothies and yogurt smoothies, as well as sandwiches, salads, wraps, and protein bowls. Plenty of delicious healthy choices! #HeatherEats

This restaurant is across the street from the fairly popular Francesco's Italian restaurant. Having been there before, I didn't have any troubles locating this place. The parking lot is a little rugged in spots but at least there's plenty of space. The inside is a little sparse but there's ample seating and some kind of cool drawings hanging on the walls. A portrait of who I can only assume to be Minnie Lee is near the entrance. Food is served cafeteria style by some very nice people. Seriously, the service was so warm and sweet. We felt very welcomed there. We both decided on fried chicken for lunch. My mom got the last breast from the batch so I wound up with a thigh, which isn't my favorite piece but I still like it okay. You can have more than two sides if you wish, but we didn't. I chose yams and fried potatoes as mine, while my mom got yams and cabbage. Note that their cabbage is cooked with sausage. For bread, they offered standard cornbread muffins or hot water cornbread, which the friendly staff recommended (good choice!). We both opted for sweet tea to drink. I'm not sure of the price because of course my mom snuck in and paid for both of our meals before I could notice! Lol. We found a clean booth and dug in quickly. Overall, the food was pretty good! This isn't necessarily a new favorite soul food place for me, but I'd definitely come back. The best item was honestly the cabbage! My mom let me taste a bite. So flavorful and perfect texture. This is real, southern-style cabbage (which is to say, probably not great for you...but quite tasty!). The hot water cornbread was also really good. It's different than the hot water cornbread I've had in the past; this version was very crispy on the outside with super soft, almost gooey, corny inside. It was yummy. The yams were also solid! Not the best I've ever had (flavor kind of one-note), but they were sweet and soft. The fried potatoes and fried chicken were both just okay. The fried potatoes weren't super hot or crispy, but the added flavor from the onions was nice. The fried chicken's breading was crispy and flavorful enough, but the meat, even on the thigh, was a bit dry. Neither were bad, but if I return in the future, I'd probably try something else first. We were too full for dessert, but they had pecan pie and banana pudding on display. Overall, lovely service and tasty food make this a solid option in the area.

For medical reasons, I drink filtered water and forgot to get one before we went into the restaurant, but she was very compassionate and went the extra mile to find me one. We would definitely give our service a five 5. We got the Veggie Pizza with goat cheese, some Prosciutto Wrapped Dates & Crab Cakes. We would give these items, a four 4 in taste, a five 5 in plating, and a five 5 in preparation. On the Prosciutto Wrapped Dates, I think I would've liked them better without the Gorgonzola cheese and I don't know that I'm much of a goat cheese lover. BUT the items we ordered were nicely cooked and my husband said the crab cakes were meaty and he very much enjoyed them. Overall, it was a very good experience, and I was very thankful the person who worked there went out of her way to find a bottled water for me, although it was not on their menu.

The French Door is a hair salon/ spa and the Cafe D Azure is located adjacent to the lobby. The menu includes a small breakfast menu including bagels, muffins, scones and a breakfast sandwich. There are drinks galore to choose from, frozen drinks such as fruit smoothies, speciality coffees and all the regular offerings. For lunch you can choose from a large selection of sandwiches as well as the daily special. Today's special was Poulet de Normandy and a side item. My friends and I went with poulet and the grape salad as a side. All I can say is YUM. The portions were generous as well. One friend chose the Summer Tea, a minty sweet tea, my other friend choose peach tea and I had good old Southern Sweet Tea. All were delicious! I also had a regular coffee to sip on as we visited after lunch. The cafe is small but tables are well spaced and we were encouraged to sit and chat as long as we wanted to do so! The cafe ladies even made sure our glasses of tea were topped up as we left so we could take them to go. There is a patio room that is available for groups of up to 16. You should call in advance to reserve the space for your group. I think this is a wonderful idea for a spa know that I was impressed by the friendliness of the French Door Staff as they greeted us and pointed us to the Cafe. The ladies who work the cafe were very sweet as well! I am sure that this cafe will not be a secret for long! There are lots of Ladies who Lunch here in Decatur and this is a great place to eat and chat!
