Avocado toast, eggs over easy, and cheese grits
Tracy C.

I went right in on a busy Saturday afternoon and ordered at the bar. Everything was clean and the bartender, Justin, was very attentive. My avocado toast with eggs, cheesy grits, and fresh orange juice arrived quickly and was very tasty. Great brunch stop!

I'd had a crazy intense craving for French toast and decided I'd get some by trying out First Watch. This is the first Huntsville-area location. It's off of Whitesburg drive in a repurposed building. The inside is beautiful and there's a nice large patio, though the views are not that great as it's surrounded by a large parking lot. That said, parking is easy :^) Surprisingly, there was a short wait even on a Tuesday. I think it was more a feature of tables not getting cleared super quickly rather than an excess of people, but I got a seat in about 10 minutes. The menu is fairly simplistic and more "wholesome" or healthy-ish breakfast and brunch fare. I saw a special for lavender French toast online for my location that I wanted to try but I never got any menu or verbal rundown of the specials so I wasn't sure if I could actually order it. I felt too awkward to ask about it, lol. Service was...okay, kind of weird. Everyone I talked to was super soft-spoken, not especially smiley or engaging, but not really rude, either. I did feel a little rushed to get out, but I guess I get it -- one person taking up a two-top and what all. At any rate, I ordered my French toast, sans lavender. It was supposed to come with a mixed berry compote, but was delivered without it. I would've liked to have tried it, but my waitress was darting around so much it didn't seem worth flagging her down to ask for one. It was solid enough French toast, if quite plain. I liked the brioche selection and it was cooked well. I added my own syrup and got my craving met with relatively little fanfare. Prices were about average. Not a bad time overall, I was just hoping for something a bit more, I suppose. I would return if I was with friends who wanted to go.

I like First Watch. I really do. I've been reviewing them from Arizona, Missouri and Alabama. Their food is consistently good. Their restaurants clean and their people friendly and attentive. That being said, my complaint through all of them is their coffee. Seriously, I can't add enough cream and sugar to get the aftertaste out. I drink it, caffeine is always needed. But I will state, look at getting different coffee. I always ask and hope for a booth as hard surfaces tend to be uncomfortable on my old butt. And with the exception of the Missouri spot, you still use decanter of water. Granted they are cold, but small glasses. I miss ice. But those are the small complaints. The coffee, the big one. Maybe I'm the only one, but will call it like I see it.

Lemon ricotta pancakes

Came by on opening day, and I gotta say they were ready! Plenty of staff, big space, and all setup perfectly to match their brand. Service was on point, and the food was very tasty. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes, and honestly they could have been smaller, which is not a bad problem. Also had the regular coffee and it was fine, plus free this week. Good location and properly prepped from day one. Looking forward to trying more of their menu, especially once they get mimosas and sangria available.

First time visit. There was a 20 minute wait but the super nice host told us it wouldn't probably take that long. We choose to sit at bar with no wait. Bartender was awesome food was great and atmosphere was awesome we got an omelette and eggs Benedict the food is great highly recommended!!

I'm so glad there is a location closer to where we live now. It's super easy to join the waitlist online. Cuts down wait time. The only thing I don't like about this location is the parking lot. Restaurant was great. Service was fantastic. Food was fantastic. I got the power wrap and order of the corn bread to try. I also tried the Pineapple Express drink. It was fantastic. I love the interior design at these restaurants. So cute with the farmhouse vibe.

Food was really good! Staff are very friendly. Only issue we had was we placed an online order that wasn't ready for 30 minutes after the pickup time. But I must say the food was definitely worth the wait.

This is the aftermath of a traditional breakfast. The chicken sausage is fire.

The girl who took our order was incredibly friendly, and the service was quick from the moment we walked in. I ordered Dad's Egg Sandwich, and Mom got the Vegetable Frittata. The bacon on my sandwich was the standout--nice, thick, and perfectly cooked. My only complaint is that the menu mentioned garlic, but I honestly couldn't taste any. If you're going to promise garlic, I want to taste garlic! Mom really enjoyed her frittata, although I think she's getting a little tired of egg dishes lately. She especially loved the toast and whatever butter they served with it. It almost tasted like maple butter, and it was delicious. The fresh fruit was also excellent (I happily finished Mom's!). My only real complaint is the size of the restaurant. It's a cozy space, but I can see it getting crowded very quickly during the breakfast rush. Overall, everything was wonderful. Friendly staff, fast service, and a delicious breakfast. We'll definitely be back!

The ambiance is typical of your meat and threes, with lots of booths and the restaurant was clean when I visited. The breakfast sandwiches and BLT are decently executed, but I'm REALLY not a fan of their bagels. Their bread (particularly the baguette) is fantastic, though. Note: it sells out quickly. You can still pick up your to-go order without having to deal with people. They now have a cute bookshop inside. They make their own cream cheese! Cons: If I'm paying $1.50 for an avocado add on, PLEASE don't let it be oxidized and brown and gross. This makes me sad. Parking is still a nightmare. See above about the bagels. I'm prepared for the hate I'm about to get, but I prefer Bruegger's...which is sad, as I'm sure they're produced and come in frozen. Prices have gone up, but that's to be expected. I walked in a little past 1pm, having studied the chalkboard outside with a delightful-sounding selection of spring specials. As I'm ordering, the barista and I alike see another group walk in. And another. And another-- I'm not seeing anyone else in the rather small physical establishment, and as a former barista am beginning to sweat a bit for this Greenroom employee and all of the orders he is about to have to deal with, seemingly by himself (cue the cheerful chime announcing more customers, and more customers). As I wait for my order, grateful to be the first in this long line, I sit to casually read a book and take my opportunity to observe my fellow patrons of this fine little spot. I hear the barista asking customers if they're okay with waiting, and he begins to ask customers if they're okay with waiting a minute for their orders. I'm content, as I have no urgent arrangements, and the now plastic-gloved barista comes up to me, informing me that they have no lime to garnish the avocado toast I've ordered and asking if that was okay. I assert as much and he returns to the line; I think to myself that he could have saved the time and not told me and I wouldn't have known the difference, but I'm pleased with his attention to detail. I get my to-go box of avocado toast with an egg and am pleased to open it and try a bite. I feel that it could have done with red pepper flakes (my favorite), but the everything bagel seasoning added a nice texture and the overall flavor profile was delightfully savory. As for my drink, which came later, it was the Good Riddance: a vanilla cold brew with lime pie cold foam (which lived up to the name tremendously). It also had what I believe to be graham cracker or pie crust crumbles on the top that were delightful! The drink was delicious and perfect for the spring weather. I sit upstairs as I always do, but specifically on the patio where I can see all of MidCity and the surrounding businesses. There's nonintrusive and enjoyable music presumably coming from the Camp itself? After an hour or so of enjoying my spoils, I return to the counter below to see if the barista is still there now that the rush is over. He is now accompanied by another coworker, blessedly, and I learn that his name is Caleb. We chat for a few moments and I introduce myself before leaving, but not before taking another picture of all the event calendars for the week and month. Now I'm positively fueled for my afternoon and grateful for the relaxed atmosphere. (Thanks for reading this far if you did, and shoutout again to Caleb for doing his job tremendously! There were two baristas visible the entire time, but the second didn't start making drinks until the first had finished taking the full line of orders.
